Work Text:

In the endless night,

there was a shining light

amidst the stardust with a fate too cursed,

he was destined to watch the story of others, and slowly wither.

He was a god so lonely ,

consumed others tragedy to survive the heart so empty.

Suppressed were the traces of the mortal he was,

erased were the memories of the mortals he loved.

Eventually he read a story so familiar,

without an epilogue clear.

The god wept and cried,

as he realized the story was his life.

Came the memories overflowing,

now he wanted to be with his companions never ending.

But alas! he couldn't forgo his duty as the 'reader',

for "a story exists only if someone reads her".

Under the neglectful gaze of the reader,

the stories of universe will start to wither.

In despair and hopelessness,

he broke into millions of fragments,

which scattered all over the universe in seconds.

The fragments were born to existence,

as different people in different part of the cosmic distance,

they were but a small percentage of him,

who continued to dream in the subconsciousness within,

about the stories of many worlds, so foreign.

Time passed slow as blinking lights,

then fortune had rolled the dice,

and made the cruel fate pay the price.

Across came the fragments once more,

story of a lonely god without an end wrote.

They felt the tragedy touch their soul,

and they desired more and more.

But the tale was never to be completed again,

so they took it on them to imagine a suitable end.

Some dreamt of greater tragedy,

some dreamt of an end so happy.

But in all they dreamt and dreamt,

of a story without an end.

                                                                                                                                                                                   the end
