apartment balconies

Summary:

There's a voice that sings from the apartment above him every night. Hoseok finally works up the courage to say hi.

Work Text:

Hoseok didn’t mind the noise, although he certainly wondered why it was always late at night when people were getting ready for bed. He’d grown used to it, as had the rest of their apartment it seemed. It wasn’t as if the person who was singing was any *bad*, it was just that it was loud. Pretty loud, considering how clearly Hoseok could understand the words this guy was singing. But it was good, really good, and sometimes Hoseok liked to sit against the door to his balcony and close his eyes and *listen*.

It was soothing, relaxing, and Hoseok normally fell asleep to it even though he always planned to go outside and say hi. He wondered who this voice belonged to that sent shivers down his spine and made his heart swell and cheeks sore from smiling. It was so cheesy, but this guy’s voice absolutely reminded him a hot summer night, but a drizzle slowly falling from the sky as he sat next to the water, his skin becoming damp from the rain.

It was soothing and romantic and Hoseok really wanted to see what sort of person this voice belonged to, but it took so much effort not to fall asleep with how soothed and calm it made him, but he held off. He pinched himself and shook his head and swiped his tongue over his lips and it seemed to be working. He didn’t want to interrupt the singing and so he held off. This usually lasted about an hour and it was growing time for the voice to fade out and disappear back into it’s apartment and just as it was nearing the final minutes of the hour, Hoseok pushed himself up and walked outsie, his breathe catching in his throat.

He wasn’t sure what he had expected, and, honestly, beyond how lovely the voice was, he hadn’t given it much thought. But he hadn’t expected it to belong to someone likely around his age, dark hair and tan skin, leaning against the railing in hesitation, as if he was scared the rail would break and he’d fall and Hoseok couldn’t blame him. He was always frightened of that too, but this boy didn’t seem to let it scare him off back insdie, and Hoseok admired that, and he wanted to say hi, ask his name.

And then he was noticed as he watched and Hoseok could feel his face flare up. He was probably red even in the dark and so was this boy; turning red and moving away from the railing as if Hoseok was a dog about to bite him.

“S-sorry…” Hoseok quickly stuttered out, taking a step forward and arching his neck up to see him around the balcony. “I didn’t mean to… interrupt.”

“You were listening long?” The boy was crossing his arms over his chest, tugging at his sweater. It was cute how nervous he seemed, but Hoseok was also nervous.

“You sing every night.” Hoseok pointed out, swiping his tongue over his lips another time. “You have a really nice voice.”

And this boy quickly bowed his head against his chest and even in the dark, from this distance, Hoseok could tell how red he was turning. “Thanks… I’m Jimin–Park Jimin,”

Park Jimin… such a common name but it sounded perfect inside of Hoseok’s head and he really loved the name. “Jimin… I’m Jung Hoseok,” the boy smiled shyly and Hoseok gave a small laugh, smiling back. “Can you… sing another song?”

“I…” Jimin glanced around and inside before straightening up and nodding down at him, leaning back over the railing slightly. “Do you have a particular song?”

Hoseok beamed, excited he’d get to hear more of that lovely voice.
