Chapter Text
“Waaahhh, why is this game so boo-hoo!” Emu screamed, throwing her remote across her troupe-mate’s room, causing the taller of the three to giggle. “Emu, do you want to take a break?” Tsukasa suggested.
The girl didn’t give it a second thought.
“No! I have to impress Nene by showing I can pow-pow and click-click-click!” Emu shouted. “If not, she won’t wanna hang out with me.”
“Emu, I really don’t this this is necessary. Nene loves you for who you are.” Rui tried to comfort the girl, but it was no use. The troupe was going to Nene’s house for an sleepover after their show on Friday. Emu was building up the courage to confess her feelings to Nene on that day, but first wanted to impress her. And what does Nene like the most? Video games.
Nene is always playing videos games. Which is all fun, but Emu isn’t exactly good at them. So she came to her best friends, Rui and Tsukasa, to improve.
“Why don’t you just buy a really cool game that she really wants?” Tsukasa proposed.
“Tsukasa, I love you, but I think Nene owns every video game in all of Japan.” The taller boy replied. It was true, they did admit— her shelves were filled with video games and collectables.
“Whatever. Do not fret, dear Emu! You have a whole week until Friday! And I’m sure Nene will be impressed anyway!” Tsukasa didn’t mention the part that Nene had confessed her feelings about Emu to Rui, who told Tsukasa.
Emu wasn’t too reassured. “Mmm I dunno..but thanks,” She frowned, trying to think of how to show her deep affection for her crush.
“We’ll think of some ideas over the week, right Rui?”
“Of course.”

The days went on. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Rui and Tsukasa suggested a few ideas; write her a letter using silly video game puns, flex your knowledge on whatever you know about the video games, and to just be herself! Sure, Emu could do these things. But as the days went on, a question lingered in her mind.
Would that be enough to impress her beloved Nene?
Yeah, it was sure Nene loved Emu. They were troupemates, the best of friends. But did Nene love her the way Emu loved her? It was difficult to tell.
The days continued. Wednesday. Thursday. Emu had major butterflies in her stomach. Could she confess to Nene?
She went onto a mobile game that Nene liked. It was fun, at least when she won. Why couldn’t Nene play easy games?! But she loved her anyway.

Friday arrived. School.
Through all her classes, she couldn’t stop thinking about Nene. She had the basics planned out; perform, go to Nene’s house, ask Nene (and Rui and Tsukasa) to play a video game. Then show off how good she is! Except Nene is way better…
She did try writing Nene a letter. She threw in some silly video game puns. And ended up doodling all over the card. Oops…
The dismissal bell rang. She headed to Phoenix Wonderland to get everything ready for their show.
Nene had already arrived, and was sweeping the stage and listening to her music through one earbud. Emu could feel her face begin to warm, and her heart fluttered just looking at her.
“HI NENEEE ♡~” the pink-hair girl shouted. Nene softly smiled at the sound of her friend’s voice, glancing up and waving.
The two girls set up the Wonder Stage in silence, only for a bit, until their troupemates arrived.
“Greetings, my beloved friends”! The blonde screamed. “Are you prepared for another spectacular performance?!”
They all cheered and nodded, but Emu had another thing occupying her mind.

The show went by rather smoothly, and a little to quick for Emu. She bowed and waved to the audience as the curtain shut.
“Well done, everyone!” Rui exclaimed. “Wait, where is Tsukasa?” Nene and Emu were right there along with Rui, but Tsukasa was nowhere to be seen.
“He could’ve gone to change early,” Nene suggested. Maybe, but that would be unusual…
“I’m going to search for him. You two get changed, I’ll text you if anything happens.”
And so Nene and Emu were left.
“You did super-duper awesome, Nene! You played your character really good!”
“Hehe, you did well too Emu.” Nene pulled her into a quick hug. She wasn’t usually the one for physical contact, but Emu wasn’t complaining, of course!
A buzz came from both their phones.

Then it hit Emu.
She and Nene would be all alone. Together.
Was that good or bad?
“Oh well, I guess that leaves you and me, Emu. What do you say about a round of Mario-Kart?”
