I have decided to draw some fanart for the fic Amenable to Reason written by fleur_despoir!

Chapter 6: Hogwards in winter

Notes:

so, another drawing here - Hogwards castle in winter! Not the one I was planning to draw but I have had a weird artistic type of block and couldn't progress with the other one... so I tried this, and it helped.
(I am glad to be rid of the artist block because I have had writers block the past three days and its so stupid having two at the same time, like I couldn't write, couldn't draw and what else should I do? 😅)
The reference pictures I used are from Hogwards Legacy so if anything doesn't fit the description in the books its probably that...

  Also, I don't know if it was mentioned but what type of owl is Salina? I want her to match the description but I have no idea where to start looking given that I have zero knowledge about owls and thus need to find some references before I start drawing.

    I think I defined her as an eastern screech owl ! Like, caramel, tawny brown, yellow eyes, and looks absolutely adorable of course because it's Albus' familiar! Also, she either sleeps on his metal globe or his bedposts when she's nervous about the weather but I dont think I've mentioned that in writing just yet. I think that's about all I can give in terms of info hope it helps!

      It helps a lot, and now I am looking forward to drawing an owl an a globe...

AWWW she is so adorable!!! I can just hear her sitting there looking at Albus from below going like... "you idiot. you idiot are writing to Grindelwald again what are you doing, and- no, no, no WAY are you going to send me to that man! Albus! Albus don't! I will protest! I will peck out his eyes! Albus nOOoOOOOOOO!" I don't know she looks both adorable and judgy in this drawing which is of course to say I love it!

  Another drawing finished (it is a scenery). Fits the description I would say but I kinda drew it as spring instead of winter. (I don't know how to draw winter things) but I will post it anyway (probably tomorrow)
  I was thinking doing a scenery next time too, perhaps one of the meetings.
  Could you write a short description of whatever you choose, more like the description of what is there and like that? It would help a lot, because I need different type of details when I draw than when I read

    Hey, artistic liberty! (wait I had something in winter? Hogwarts in winter? without it being winter that is? is that what it is? Well, I'll let myself be surprised! looking forward to it!
    One mini note in the middle! I think you sort of have your fic out as completed, right? Because despite you adding a chapter it still shows the date of two days ago. Just something to look into so you always appear on the dash and more people can see your wonderful work!
    oh, ah... do you have a favourite meeting scenery? Then I'll throw together some notes, though it's a different style (what exactly do you need in terms of description? Sizes, or more sentiments, or something entirely different altogether?) or is it just details?

      Not exactly busy, more like procrastinating on everything that needs to be done because I like to draw 😄
      Not exactly, I think it was December? Pretty much sure you mentioned it in the chapter that they visit the place in winter... no spoilers though!
      Ok! I will look into it! I still don't really know how it works so I am still learning.
      Not really, all the meetings are special and I am not sure how to choose. But if I do, I think I could try the meeting in Paris - the sea side place Albus takes Gellert to afterwards.
      Well, there are some questions that are allways the same when I draw (I am trying to sound like I am not just making this up and it's all professional 😅)
      Are any details that were not mentioned but should be on the picture (like when they are at the sea what the structure of the beach is - rocs / sand, clear see, waves etc. Or if there are any birds or ships... - some might have been mentioned but not all)
      Weather? Time of year and time of day? (Like if it's, at dawn or later or if there should be like sun high up on the sky....)
      And if there is some thing that strikes you as important in the scene.
      Like, I am not sure how hard it is because for me it's nearly impossible but if you would imagine a photo and try to describe it? Anything would probably help... the more information the less I feel like I would just draw something and than give some small reference paragraphs later that the plage is supposed to be full of rocks and then be like oops! 😅
      I will be really grateful for anything really.
      Also what could really be helpful but I am not sure how to do is, if you put a link to a photo, just Google search and first thing that comes looking similar...

        hahaha that sounds like me...
        I am also in the wonderful predicament of having to correct 50 assignments over the weekend... it's "just" academic references but still... so much time...
        Anyways, if you're referring to the one by the north sea, that was indeed in december! not that there was any snow, I would have mentioned it if there was. That's why I guessed hogwarts because I described a ton of snow there
        sure, I didn't know anything at first either lol just thought it might help. Also I JUST noticed that it is amenable not ameneable ! ;) but not to worry I didn't notice for a long time I doubt anybody else did ;)
        Ah, ok! I'll try my best to give you answers and inspiration somehow!
        in that meeting, there should be beach below but it is all swallowed up by gigantic waves. it is rainy, gloomy, the waves are at least like 10 metres high, so they come in STRONG. There is spray everywhere, the rocks are sort of a mixture of browns, though mostly either light brown or pretty dark, there is debris from the sea where they are sitting, like little seashells, wrack, stones, etc.
        It is theoretically afternoon, but since it is so rainy, there is light, but no shadow. the waves are a mixture of grey blues and whites, it is sort of intertwined really. I always imagine it as a photo and then describe it when I write, or try to group my memories of multiple places into one thing and then try to draw on the things I need most for the scene
        I will try to provide some links for inspiration, it isn't exactly the same because the cliffs should be higher by at least another twenty metres I think, but just so that it gives you a sense of spectacle (also they are for some reason also all sunny? It is a very stormy, autumnal day there) On the cliffs, hardly anything except for a bit of grass, sea pinks and other tiny plants that cosy to the ground are growing. Maybe an isolated tree that is totally bent out of shape. in terms of seashells, that would probably be limpets, mussels, crashed oyster shells, and those you would see on a snail just... smaller I guess. and in whites, browns, yellows, oranges. but they would likely all be slightly damaged because they've been thrown against hard rocks a lot.

        I specifically love the last one (and not only because the rock looks like a dog) that one entirely might be most accurate in terms of size and scale, just that it is raining like crazy and they are sitting somewhere IN the cliffs behind their shield.

        Oh, that's a lot of work to do!
        For me it's only stuff at home because school is finished for us now! Starting again in two months.
        But I still plan to study because I like to learn and two months of free time should be used at least a bit. I also discovered a huge library in the city, it's only for over people but I got mum to sign up for me and I will just try to pretend I am a year older 😄. Even the person at the front desk who helped us sign up was telling us to do it that way.
        Well, and in this library is like all the books that were printed in Czech Republic since a long time so I plan to read as much as I can. Not only stories but also about architecture or flowers or whatever I can find.
        You will see! And also likely understand why I failed spectacularly at making it winter 😅

        Wow, that's great! It's really easy to imagine the scenery! And the pictures are fantastic too, I will use them as reference... probably starting now and i will post depending on how excited I am with the results. I am trying to keep at least a bit of a schedule - rather than post two at the same time put one up each day - because it helps me knowing that I don't have to draw right now, I could draw a bit later and still update. I have it like this with things, I need to know I don't have to.... like not having to do a school project will make me do it 9 from 10 times, especially if it's interesting!

        I got through it somehow with only a mild headache and total being a bit... out of it I suppose. Well, anyways, just make sure to do other things you enjoy during your well-deserved holidays as well!
        Wow you are diligent I couldn't have cared less about learning in the summer months, but school also never motivated me to learn so there's that. Ouuuh that's great! I used to love going to the library, was this super cosy thing with couches and I discovered most of my music taste in those shelves, and my books too. I don't think I would be nearly as good at English if the German versions of all famous books hadn't always been taken by others and I had to default to the English versions to keep up lol
        wooww that sounds like fun! flowers... I love flowers I know far too little about them honestly.
        happens all the time, don't worry about it!
        I'm glad I helped, it looks really beautiful! I will try my best to provide descriptions like that in the future but they might not all be so elaborate.

        And it's not like I am procrastinating on things I want to do...😆 and what with the holidays I am still able to do it...so much free time...
        I don't care much about school learning but I want to learn my things. I always imagine what would somone like Albus or Hermione do during summer (I expect they would learn stuff) and then I am like I want to be good at school too and be a good witch (a bit tough as a muggle isn't it?) and I go and learn things because I want to do something important in life and what else can I do now than get enough information to use later?
        So that's the reason I learn. I want to be like my favorite book characters.
        I don't know a thing about flowers honestly but I want to know at least something... so I am planning to do research on them.
        Iam glad you like the drawings! I haven't drawn for a while before starting again now and I am glad to practice!

        hehehe yes, you strike me as such, and a healthy thirst for knowledge is... well, healthy! I suppose I myself never had these sort of regions of interest and all "learning" sort of became entangled with school resentment and associating it with a chore, which really makes me glad that school hasn't gotten into your head like that and that you really would like to spend time on learning new things, especially for the future, that is a very wonderful thing to do I think! (I mean, what's wrong with being like your favourite book characters huh? my favourite in HP was always Luna though I am NOWHERE near being as confidently indifferent about other people's opinions, and Severus, which... I don't know, I aspire to have his loyalty and potion-making skills but other than that? Not exactly the person I want to be lol

        Yeah, pretty much enjoying the free time, though I am kind of looking forward to school to because learning...
        Sorry to hear that! School can be really boring at times and doesn't really motivate much. It's mostly on the people themselves to learn if they want to and... doesn't work as its should. I totally understand how that happens...
        Oh, I love Luna too! I am slowly getting to the stage when my attitude is - all the people saying crap about me can go to hell - and its really showing in my confidence. If I say I don't care I don't care (still convincing myself 😅)

        Wow, you really are a Ravenclaw though (meant very positively) (I could never) !!!
        I'm kind of at the wrong end of the stick to be making utterances about the school system as a university employee and teacher there... oups.
        Also, your drawings have been so lovely! I just wanted to say that once more, all six of them, and I'm still torn whether Salina, the ocean or EVA is my favourite. Also, I've figured out somehow, like... mid-conversation out of nowhere that your drawing of Hogwarts reminded me of a place in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, the game, the College of Winterhold, which of course only makes it better because it made a lightbulb light up in my brain lol.
        Oh how I wish I could be like Luna... I care far too much about the opinion of other people and am dependent on it... I'm really glad though that you've gained a massive amount of confidence of late! You can do it, whatever you're tackling!!!

  I am glad you like it so much! It took ages and I didn't even think it would look that well but then I added the waves and clouds and... magic! ... it really transformed
  Next time, I am trying to draw the dragon but after that, I was thinking about the meeting where they go by boat if you know which one I mean... so if you could do something similar to what you did with this one, it would be great!

    Alright, I'll try!
    (another few suggestions would obviously be the creatures that exist in the movies, like Teddy or Pickett doing something cute or stupid, or food) (food is amazing lol I love food)
    Anyways. Ok, so, the lake...
    About five x five kilometres in diametre I would say, there is a boathouse obviously from which they set out, which would be I guess either very dark wood or very light, and on stilts in the water. The rowing boat is nothing special, just a two-seater I guess. I think this is the description I gave in the chapter:
    "A small but picturesque town of light brown and beige houses was cosying up to shore on the other side of the oval lake, which spanned at the very least five kilometres to each side, soft and occasionally steeper hills arising on all sides of the lake, now exploding in dazzling meadows and forests of needle trees growing in paled shades of emerald green, dotted with the occasional paddock for horses and cows, which appeared as nothing more than dots as they were grazing next to red shacks and farms, and the water truly a still mirror of shades of blue that, even from just above the water, looked lustrously and simultaneously impossibly blue, almost azurite in tone. "
    I really struggled with picture references this time because I've never actually seen a lake like that, they always had either huge mountains around them or no hills at all, so.. it's a bit tricky. For the meeting at four I totally have something in mind (though there wasn't any visibility because of the fog then) but... basically lush, green meadows on hills around a lake of azurite blue almost and perfectly tranquil, no other boats, maybe a small family of ducks, and basically no clouds in the sky, just pure sunlight and everything is super colourful ! Hope that helps, not as elaborate as last time I know...

Cute! Not very East-Frisian main coast as it originally was, but nevertheless really beautiful! It's a bit like if he had the cottage about a kilometre further into land! Can't wait for the next one!

ouhh quite pretty! Sorry to hear you've been having BOTH types of blocks at the same time one is bad enough! I hate that for you! (and I also don't know 100% how I conceptualise Hogwarts, it's been so different across movies and books and games that... well, I guess you just have to place things somehow, like... there's the Lake somehow close to the school, the hills, the Forbidden Forest, and Hogsmeade a half hour away on foot, and that's sort of all there is in terms of specifications, right? Everything else is just artistic liberty honestly, which you took very beautifully here! I can just imagine sitting behind one of those windows with a nice cup of hot chocolate!

    I'm really glad to hear that! I've had a rough week and am now somehow pushing myself back to functionality? it sucks. I'm really glad though that it's worked better with you, nothing in art I think is worse than having the time but not the ability at that moment, I think that's far worse than not having the time and the spirit...
