The celebrations in Rimmen were in full swing, which was of no surprise. There was much to celebrate. The usurper queen was dead, the dragons had dispersed following Kaalgrontiid’s defeat and Northern Elsweyr’s Queen had returned. Kaatima walked through the streets, enjoying one of the many sweet treats that she had been offered. Many of the citizens of the city wished to show her their thanks for her role in the recent victories.
Her steps were quick and light as she weaved through the crowds, doing her best not to stay in one place for too long in fear of suddenly being bombarded by people. While she usually enjoyed celebrations like these, she had being moving nonstop these past few months and desperately needed some space and time for herself.
She slipped down an alleyway, following it away from the noises of crowds until she finally found a quiet corner. She sat in the shade of one of the buildings, resting her back against the wooden structure and closing her eyes. Peace and quiet at last.
It didn’t last for very long as she heard familiar footsteps approaching her. She cracked an eye open to see Raz.
“Razum-dar the dragon slayer. It has quite the ring to it, no? Alas he was no invited on such an adventure.”
“Is Raz jealous?” she teased.
“Raz? Jealous? Of course not!” he feigned hurt at her words for thinking such a thing “He is simply sad that you did not do it as stylishly as you could have had he been there.”
Kaatima laughed and shook her head as he sat down beside her. “Do not make this one laugh so hard, Raz! Her ribs hurt enough as it is!”
He frowned, his ears flattening against his head. “You are injured? Why are you out here and not seeking a healer?” He was already looking her over, worrying like a mother hen.
She waved her hand dismissively. “This one is fine, her ribs are only bruised.” His concern for her was sweet and made her smile.
Raz’s hand came to rest beneath her chin and he titled her head up before resting his forehead against hers. A deep rumble started in his throat. A purr. She reciprocated with her own purr. Her eyes closed again as she nuzzled him.
Between her constantly saving the world from disaster and him and the duties he had as an Eye of the Queen, more often than not, they were apart from each other. When their paths did cross again, it made moments like this that more special. Though she wished that they could be together more often, like they had been a few years previous.
“Raz won’t lie. He does worry about you, Kaat,” he confessed quietly. “Yes, yes, he knows that you are more than capable of looking after yourself. He has seen this first hand many times, but it does not stop him from worrying about the woman he loves.”
“And Kaat worries for you each time you are sent on a mission that she cannot join. She does not wish to lose you either, my heart.” Kaatima wrapped her arms around him, pulling him in for a hug that he returned, his chin resting on top of her head.
“When are you travelling next?”
“Whenever the next courier arrives,” she replied.
Raz hummed softly. “Then, until that moment arrives, let us make up for lost time.”
