Quincy opens his eyes.
The first thing he sees is a tuft of brown hair poking out from a bundle of sheets against his chest. Sunlight just began to creep through the window of his small house, giving the dark room a slight orange tint. Barely awake, the forest guardian blinks in confusion, but then quickly remembers what brought him and the Grand Sorcerer to this point.
That night before, Eiden had walked to Quincy’s home with a bottle of alcohol. He had bought it at a market and wanted to share a drink with someone. And out of all the clan members, Quincy could hold his alcohol the best. Eiden was sure he would love it. The flavor wasn’t too sweet or too bitter. Thankfully, Quincy did end up enjoying it. It only took a couple shots for Eiden to get tipsy, clingy and emotional.
Quincy always found it a little cute when Eiden got drunk, though it could be a bit troublesome occasionally, with the brunet trying to seduce him or getting sick. Quincy couldn’t give you an exact number of all the times he’s heard, “I promise you, this time I won’t get too drunk!” But, unlike most times, this drinking session didn’t lead to anything serious. No sex, no throwing up, no emotional outbursts… Instead, Eiden just passed out asleep on Quincy’s bed. The older man was taken by surprise, but did not complain. He covered Eiden with a blanket and got in beside him and quickly dozed off, with Topper asleep at the foot of the bed.
Whenever the two slept together, Eiden always woke up before Quincy. Either up playing with Topper, or making the three of them a small breakfast. However this time, Eiden was still in his embrace whilst wrapped in a blanket, his face barely visible.
The forest guardian scooted back a little to get a better view of the sleeping man. He gently pulled the blanket away from Eiden’s face, his closed eyes now visible. Lips barely parted, the brunet softly exhales and inhales. Quincy felt so at peace. The rays of the sun shining on their bodies, the quiet rustle of wind moving through the trees outside, Eiden’s light breathing… It really felt as if there was an angel in their presence. Perhaps Eiden was that angel? Quincy smirks at that thought.
The forest guardian carefully wraps an arm around the smaller man, trying his best to not wake him. Quincy gazes into Eiden’s peaceful face, reminiscing of all the memories they have shared in the past up until now.
Quincy isn’t the one to worry about the future, but a sudden thought intruded his thinking.
The thought of never seeing Eiden again.
Quincy furrows his eyebrows and disregards that thought. He does not want to think about a world without Eiden. Sure, he’s had his fair share of relationships in the past, but none of them were as special, loving, and perfect as Eiden. The arm he has wrapped around Eiden tightens a little. Quincy closes his eyes in an attempt to fall back asleep, before his mind chooses to bring up anymore unwanted thoughts.
“Ngh…”
A sleepy groan escapes the man beside him. Quincy immediately opens his eyes, seeing Eiden squirm a little, then raising his head up to look at older man’s face.
“O-Oh! You’re… awake.” the Grand Sorcerer yawns midway. Quincy smiles gently, “Mhm. Did I wake you?” he asks, thinking back to when he wrapped his arm around Eiden. “I don’t think so… I just kind of woke up.” he smiles and brings himself closer to Quincy’s chest, looking at his partner with those beautiful brown eyes and a cheeky grin on his face.
“Did’ya sleep well? You’re awake earlier than usual.”
“I did. How do you feel? Considering you had so much to drink last night.” the forest guardian’s voice laced with concern. “Ah.. I feel fine! For now at least, haha. The hangover will kick in eventually.” Eiden chuckles, pulling his arms from his wad of covers to hold Quincy.
“Be sure to eat something when you get up. And have plenty of water. Take it easy today.”
“I know~” Eiden mumbles. Quincy starts stroking through his brown locks, sending tingles down his spine. The younger man closes his eyes letting the sensation relax all his nerves. “Mmm… You’re makin’ me… sleepy again…” he whispers. Quincy lets out a hum in reply, planting a kiss on top of his head.
When Eiden was in the orphanage, if he ever had trouble sleeping, one of his caretakers would always rub his head to coax him to sleep. It was one of the most relaxing and reassuring feelings in the world for him. The sound of fingers running through strands of hair, the tingly feeling on the scalp… it all made him feel so safe. Minutes later, the brunet fell back to sleep thanks to this nostalgic feeling.
Quincy smiled hearing Eiden breathe softly in and out, eyes shut and mouth slightly parted. Nothing warmed Quincy’s heart more than seeing Eiden resting peacefully and protected in his arms. The older man shut his eyes and left himself drift off as well.
