He had reaped a lot of souls in his existence, yet Grim Reaper had never seen such a bizarre case. Sure ladders would disappear from pools or whole fences materialised around it. Some playful sims would pass due to extensive laughter. Even Rabid Rodent Fever poked around the corner every once in a while. This however, was something entirely different. Grim might even refer to it as peculiar. On the floor layed the body of Father Winter. Now that in itself was already unexpected. What made the situation even more curious, it was no ordinary death. He hadn’t drowned or been devoured by flies. He didn't wear a winter coat in the summer or tried to repair his fridge. Grim was so confused he decided to ask the police man that showed up. He told the reaper how a helicopter had somehow been thrown at Father Winter, immediately causing his demise.
Crying in a corner sat Summer Holiday. She had been in a relationship with the hero of Winterfest and was now struggling to explain what she had witnessed. The agent in question, had Grim noticed, was Johnny Zest. Seemed like he had made something out of his life after all. While usually Grim really couldn’t care any less, he felt analytical. He needed to know who did this and why. Surely no one would harm this man without proper reason, let alone take his life. He moved through the space, subtly watching for clues. When he found nothing more than a few pieces of red fluff he realised this would take more effort than he had hoped for.
Not wishing to stall much longer, the soul of Father Winter was reaped. Summer pleaded with him to spare the other, yet with the way he had come to an end, Grim was simply unable to. Annoyed by being around the living for too long Grim was ready to leave, when through the door came another sim. He recognised him as Travis Scott. He also took note of the red fluffy jumper he was wearing. He remembered how Travis always had an eye on Summer and it all clicked in his mind. Could it really be that Travis had been the killer? It certainly seemed like it. Did his jealousy, anyone’s jealousy for that matter, go so far? He watched as the blonde approached the girl. He was acting innocently enough, checking on her. Johnny Zest had moved over to the couple as well, ready to investigate Travis.
Grim, deciding he was searching too much, once again made his preparations to leave. However once more he was stopped. This time by Summer crying out about a weapon. Grim turned around to see how Travis stabbed Johnny Zest in the guts. Blood started gushing out the wound like Grim had never seen before. Before anything else could happen, Travis was gone. Or that’s what he thought at first. The new policeman that had arrived had an eerily similar appearance. Summer did not seem to pick up on it, as she once again tried to explain what happened. What still puzzled Grim most though, was how. The townies here didn’t die violent deaths. They did not get run over by cars. They did not stab each other. And yet it was playing out right before him.
In the following days Grim found himself visiting more than he’d liked. In a few days a lot more victims had fallen, and the killers did not seem to have control over it. Some had been bashed with a bat. Some had been choked using grilled cheese. There were even victims that had been backstabbed by their long time partner. When he received another notification of someone who’s actual heart had been ripped out, it had been enough. He was gonna do something about this. He no longer had a moment's rest and all those bloody deaths ruined his robes. Deciding to search for the source he went to Willow Creek, the oldest village there was. Soon his investigation started. He moved down to a river that seemed to have slowly turned red.
Had anyone ever seen the end of the river? Grim didn’t think so. It had now become his mission. Who knew what layed at the end of it. And so he made his way to the end of the river, following the gentle stream past all the houses and fishing spots. For once he ignored all the notifications he got about the deaths. He would deal with it later, if there was anything left. The closer he got to the end the more clearly he saw something pastel yellow. It was huge and seemed out of place. Arriving at the spot he was surprised it was an oversized folder. On the label it spelled out ‘mods’. What that meant? Grim had no idea, but he figured it had something to do with the recent events. He opened up the folder and noticed several items inside. Don’t Wash Your Dishes Where You Angry Poop, Cosmetic Procedures, Functional Iron Board, and a lot more.
All the way at the bottom of the folder was a large file that read ‘Extreme Violence’. So that was it. Someone had implemented this thing called ‘mods’ to change how their lives were. But who would ever do such a thing? That was when Grim wondered if that being also was responsible for the other strange, yet normal deaths. The fences around the pools, the standing outside with inappropriate garments. Laughing till you die and getting devoured by flies. Grim could hardly believe anyone was evil enough to do something like that. Surely it had to be out of this world. Suddenly a huge arrow shape came down upon the folder. He noticed it was like a cursor you have on your laptop. Was someone controlling this world? Controlling the townies? Controlling.. Him? Grim shuddered at the thought. Surely he was just imagining all this. However as he started feeling colder, snow now falling from the sky, he noticed he was barely wearing a swimsuit.
