Work Text:

Something was up with Powder.

It was her birthday, and like every year Powder wanted to celebrate at the arcade. Everything had seemed to be going fine, Powder was an even more excitable ball of energy than usual, they didn’t have any problems booking the party room or getting a cake.

But when the day came and they actually arrived at the place Powder hadn’t run off into the arcade with her bucket full of tokens. No, from the moment they entered the arcade she had been looking around like a lost puppy, eventually parking herself by the entrance and looking out the giant windows instead of getting a new high score on one of the shooting games.

And it was starting to really worry Vi.

“You know what’s up with Powder?”

“Uh, no sorry Vi.” Claggor answered, looking away from the arcade screen long enough to give her an apologetic look.

Mylo didn’t even look away, only responding with a “Nope.”

“Mylo, I swear if you messed with her…” Vi threatened.

“Listen Vi,” Mylo said, finally looking away from the screen. “I know I can be a bit-”

“Of a dick?”

“...harsh,” Mylo finished, with a blank face. “When it comes to Powder, but I’m not the kind of asshole to mess with her on her birthday, alright? Maybe just try asking her what’s wrong.”

Vi stared at Mylo for a moment, before pushing herself off the wall she was leaning on and making her way over to her sister.

“Yeah, sure. Might want to turn around though.”

Unfortunately for Mylo, by the time he turned around Claggor had already drained his character’s health to zero.

As Vi got closer to her sister she noticed the obvious nervous tics, Powder pacing slightly, fidgeting with her sweater, and her least favorite, Powder yanking a stray strand of hair.

“Hey, you alright Pow Pow?” Vi asked, gently swatting her sister’s hand away from tugging at her scalp any further.

“Yeah…” Powder glanced up at her, before looking back out towards the street.

Vi hummed and thought for a moment. With how her sister was acting, plus the fact she had insisted on having an extra plate set out in the party room it was clear Powder was waiting for someone. The only problem was…

“Look Pow, I’m not sure what Ekko might have said, but we already told-”

“I’m not waiting for Ekko!” Powder said.

Vi paused for a second.

“But you are waiting for someone?”

Powder looked down and started fidgeting with her sweater again.

“Maybe.” She mumbled.

“Mind telling me who it is?”

Powder was silent for a few moments, before finally answering.

“A friend…” After a few more seconds of silence, she continued. “Met her at school. She said she wanted to come, but her mom might not let her.”

Vi paused for a moment. Powder had recently started going to school in the nicer part of town, Vander wanting to give her a better chance at getting accepted into a good highschool in the future. She remembered Powder having a meltdown, her wanting to go to the same school her, Mylo, and Claggor had gone to, the same one Ekko was going to.

Vi honestly might have been on her side too, if it wasn’t for the hope that it really would help her sister’s future.

After the first day though, which had involved her almost literally needing to drag her over there, Powder had been fine, maybe even excited to go. If this friend was the reason, well…

First it’d mean she’d need to meet the kid eventually, make sure she’s actually a good influence, and secondly if they were from the nicer part of town it would probably mean whoever this girl’s parents were didn’t want her over in the rougher parts.

“Hey,” Powder looked up at her, “I’m sure your friend did everything she could to convince her parents to let her come. Let’s not let her asshole parents ruin your birthday, alright Pow?”

Powder looked disappointed, but still nodded after a moment and grabbed her token bucket.

“Come on, I think Mylo got a new high score on that shooting game you like and we can’t-”

Before she could finish however, Vi’s brain screeched to a halt. Which considering the fact everyone else in the arcade also seemed to have frozen, Vi thinks is a perfectly reasonable response.

Because pulling up outside of said arcade was a fucking limousine.

Brain still trying to comprehend what she was seeing, Vi could only watch as the limo parked, and some guy stepped out just to open one of the passenger doors, letting the pink haired girl inside hop out and begin racing her way towards the arcade.

“What the fu-”

“Lux!”

Before Vi could react to her sister’s outburst, Powder was already out the door, meeting the pink girl in the middle for a hug. Despite being a few inches shorter than Powder the girl (Lux?) was still able to lift Vi’s sister into the air for a few seconds, the two of them giggling.

The two of them eventually made their way hand in hand into the arcade, Powder barely containing her excitement and smiling up at Vi.

“This is Lux! Lux this is my big sister Vi!”

“Hello.” Lux said, using her free hand to wave up at Vi.

“Uh, hi…” She said, waving back.

“Come on Pinkie, I’ll show you the best games here!”

Vi could still only watch as the two kids raced further into the arcade. She was just starting to snap out of it when Mylo inched his way over to her.

“Sooooo did you know Pow had a sugar momma, or-

“Shut the fuck up Mylo!”
