Poofy Dress, Wedding Bells

Summary:

What stood before her could only be described as the most literal case of bridezilla. The akuma was tall, half the size of one of the nearby buildings, and wearing a mermaid style wedding dress, with a long flowing veil. Ladybug whipped her yo-yo at the akuma’s wrists, only to be swept from her place on the building as the akuma tugged on it.

A silver baton flew by her and suddenly she wasn’t being pulled anymore.

“Talk about being swept off your feet.” Chat Noir jokes, retrieving his baton as Ladybug yanked her yo-yo back to her side.

Work Text:

She sits on the rooftop, her feet dangling.

The Parisian sky was clear, not a cloud in sight. It was a beautiful spring day, no akumas anywhere.

There was a crashing noise and her head snapped up. Clearly she spoke too soon. A plume of smoke was rising from one of the buildings. She reached for her yo-yo and swung in the direction of the akuma.

“Not your best, Chaton.” She responded as she examined the akuma. Nothing obvious for the object yet, except maybe the veil.

“I know, but I haven’t even heard the name yet. Hard to come up with good material on the fly.” The two of them moved closer, watching as literal wedding dresses began attacking civilians, adding to the akuma’s army.

Ladybug deflected one of the dresses, and watched as Chat Noir did the same. The army clothed in the dresses rushed at them, and she jumped back to the roof.

“Oh come on, what’s the backstory for this one?” She asked as she and her partner tried to evade.

“Seems like someone said something mean about her dress?” Chat Noir suggested.

“I’m sick of everyone else’s opinions! My wedding, my dress! And now all of Paris will be dressed how I want!” The akuma screams. Another dress hurdles by her head.

“So you guessed right.” She jokes, jumping from the edge, hooking her yo-yo on a lamp post.

She spins round the akuma’s head, noting a bracelet that glints in the sunlight. That’s definitely it, but the only problem is the army of Parisians in wedding dresses, as well as the akuma’s power to form said army.

“See something, my lady?” Her partner asks, landing next to her on the lamp post.

“I think the akuma is in her bracelet, the only problem is getting to it.” She tilts her head, considering her options.

“I don’t like that look.” Chat Noir mutters.

“Come on Minou, I thought you always wanted to see me as a bride.” She flicks his bell, and then darts into the store.

She yanks the nearest dress off the rack, planning on blending in with the crowd to get close enough to the bracelet. She slips into it as fast as she can, and tugs the zipper up. Luckily, this dress covers the majority of her costume, with delicate lace covering her arms. She tugs her ribbons loose, letting her pigtails out. She noted all of the civilians had their hair down, and the dress style had been the same as the one she wore now. It would restrict her mobility slightly, but it should work.

“Lucky Charm!” She yells, and a veil lands in her hands.

Ladybug looks at herself in the mirror, and places the red and black spotted veil on her head. The akuma will spot her like this, but she thinks that might be better for her plan.

She moves into the crowd, hoping her mask wouldn’t make too much of a difference in terms of how well she fits in. She sees Chat Noir watching her, spinning his baton as she gets closer.

Ladybug’s plan is working and the akuma picks her up by the back of her dress.

This is why she wouldn’t wear a mermaid style dress for her own wedding. That, and she’d definitely trip.

“Now Chat Noir!” She yells, and he launches into action.

“Cataclysm!” He calls, smacking right into the bracelet.

The akuma drops her, but she lands on her feet, and pulls out the yo-yo. The butterfly breaks free of the bracelet, and Ladybug catches it in a swing. The yo-yo does its job and purifies it, releasing the same butterfly as always.

“Bye bye little butterfly,” she calls, and pulls the veil off her head. “Miraculous Ladybug!”

The veil disappears into a swarm of ladybugs that run throughout the city, transforming the civilians back into their normal clothes, righting any damage done to the buildings, and finally coming back to her, removing the dress, and leaving her in her suit, her hair back into its signature pigtails.

The akuma melts into a woman in the same dress that had been thrown at every civilian within range of the akuma, who sinks onto the floor.

“What happened?” She asks Ladybug as Chat Noir lands at her side.

“You were akumatized.” She responds gently.

“My mother in law… she didn’t like any of my dress choices, and I showed her this one and she laughed.” The woman begins blinking out of her stupor.

“For what it’s worth, I think your dress deserves a superhero's seal of approval.” Chat Noir responds.

“It’s a beautiful dress.” Ladybug agrees. The woman smiles.

“Thank you. I should probably go apologize to the boutique staff for the scene.” She shuffles off awkwardly, and Ladybug turns to her partner.

“Pound it!” They fist bump.

“Patrol later?” He asks her. She nods, and swings off.

—-

He beats her to the roof.

“Are you alright?” She asks, landing beside him.

“You were stunning, my lady.” He responds instead, his eyes focused on the Eiffel Tower.

“My real wedding dress wouldn’t look like that.” She comments, sitting next to him.

“Oh I figured. You’re a ladybug, not a mermaid.” He jokes. He’s still not looking at her. He looks like he’s contemplating something.

“Chaton?” She questions.

“Do you think I’ll get to see you as a bride?” He asks her. It doesn’t really clarify much.

“I hope so.” She drops her head on his shoulder.

“I can picture it now, wedding bells ringing, and you walk down the aisle in a big poofy dress-”

“It wouldn’t be poofy!” She protests.

“And whoever you marry is looking at you with tears in their eyes,” He continues. His arm is wrapped around her, comforting as always. “And you look beautiful and happy.”

Ladybug looks at him again. Chat Noir’s eyes are slightly misty, and she makes a decision.

“I want you there mon minou.” She reaches a hand up to cradle his head. He relaxes into her touch.

“I want you at my wedding too.” He responds.

“Oh, like you could keep me out.” A joke, to lighten the mood. She knows that’s normally his job, but she can’t help herself.

“No, I couldn’t.” There’s something just behind his eyes, and Ladybug can’t help herself.

She leans forward and presses a light kiss against her Chaton’s cheek. His eyes widen, and she can see a hint of pink flush under his mask.

“My lady?” He asks her.

“No matter what, I want you there.” It’s not really an answer to what he’s asking, but it’s enough.

He pulls her tighter against him, and they watch the sunset together. It’s strange, to think about marriage to some unknown person, to think about her partner being someone else’s. But somehow, she can see a wedding, a beautiful princess style dress, a bouquet of red roses, and a church full of her friends.

She can hear the wedding bells too, and at the end of the aisle in her mind, is Chat Noir.
