Work Text:

The prosecutor watched the food spin around in the microwave. It was late, really late, 2:27am to be exact. Edgeworth knew his husband would be upset for staying at the office so late, but someone had to run things.

Edgeworth sat down on the couch and opened his phone. He wasn't usually much for social media, but ever since Kay had bullied him into making an official Twitter account. He had been keeping up on what was going on, at least what his friends posted.

He scrolled through, smiling at photos of Trucy on her college campus, performing tricks for other students. He looked over at her empty bedroom. Pess laid on her bed. She had taken over Trucy's room as her own since she'd moved out.

The microwave stopped and let out a beep. Miles groaned as he sat up, he grabbed the bowl from the microwave and sat down at the kitchen table.

He swirled the noodles around in the broth. Eldoon noodles were a guilty pleasure of his, the ramen filled him with comfort and memories of long cases finally ending and late-night dates with his husband.

He ate in silence, smiling to himself. Once he finished he put the bowl in the dishwasher and walked into his bedroom. Phoenix lay in their bed. He was sprawled out on the sheets like a starfish, with his back turned at an impossible angle. "That's not gonna feel good when you wake up," Miles whispered to his husband as he put on his pajamas.

Very careful, with the touch of a surgeon. He rolled his husband off of his spot in bed. Then slid under the blankets before Phoenix could return to his starfish form.

Phoenix laid his arms over the prosecutor, wrapping around him tightly as he nudged a bit closer. "I missed you…" he whispered.

"I'm sorry I woke you," Edgeworth replied as he snuggled a bit closer. "It's alright, let's just." He let out a yawn. "Get some sleep Smiley Miley…"

Miles blush brightly, before rolling over and hiding his head in Phoenix's chest. "Night Phoenix…" he yawned. Snuggling in closer to him.

His sleep was dreamless, like most nights now. But he had a smile on his face. Enjoying his rest. He woke up to an empty bed. (Odd.) He thought to himself. (It's strange for Phoenix to get up so early.) He wiped his eyes and yawned. Looking over at the clock. 6:15 am,15 minutes before his alarm would go off. He closed his eyes and got ready to go back to sleep.

Phoenix stopped in. "Hey, Miles? Did you eat my Eldoon last night?" Miles let out a grumble and buried his head further under the pillows. Making more of an effort to go back to sleep. "Because it's not in the fridge."

Miles moved from the pillow and sat up. "I don't think so, I ate mine last night, however."
He rubbed his eyes.

"Are you sure? Because I only see the soy noodles left. I got the chicken noodles." Phoenix stepped closer to him. Sitting down next to him. "I'm not mad if you did you know?"

"I didn't…" Miles grumbled and buried his head deeper under the pillow. Phoenix sighed and ruffled Edgeworth's hair. "We'll talk more when you're awake," Phoenix smirked before walking back into the hallway. He stopped and looked into Trucy's room. His heart ached.

He stepped inside, and the feeling continued to grow. Loneliness. It had first seeped into him when Apollo left. He thought it would just be a temporary thing and would disappear after a few weeks to a couple of months.

But now Trucy is gone. He had Athena, Maya, and Edgeworth sure, but even hanging out with them. The feeling never truly went away.

It stuck to him, dragging him down. He'd find himself losing motivation when it came to things outside of work. He hadn't drawn on his sketch pad for weeks, unable to think of anything to draw. He would just stare at the paper, knowing he should do something. But he just wasn't able to.

(How pathetic) Phoenix thought to himself. (Trucy stops by practically every week. I have Edgeworth, Maya, and Athena all spending time with me. Yet I still feel this way? What a waste.) He walked away from Trucy's room and went to eat his breakfast.

He ate in silence, looking at his phone to try and distract himself from his thoughts. He'll soon be at work where he can distract himself more. Still, it felt too quiet.

He stiffens up when he felt Edgeworth arms around him. He turned around quickly. "I didn't hear you."

"You were lost in thought, and had that look." Edgeworth leaned down. "You're feeling lonely again. Aren't you?"

"I shouldn't be," Phoenix replied.

"Phoenix," Edgeworth cupped his chin and gently turned his head to look at him. "You just had two of your kids leave you. Of course, you're going to feel lonely. I do too sometimes, but I have you. And you have me. We have each other." Edgeworth kissed his cheek. "I'm sorry I ate your ramen by the way."

Phoenix smiled. "It's fine, if it makes you as sappy as you are now. You can always have my leftovers."

Notes:

Hey guys! thanks for reading. I know last year I left narumitsu week on a bit of a downer, as I was rather burnt out on narumistu and ace attorney. I'm happy to say I have once again fallen in love with writing these characters, but my attention span hasn't. A lot of stuff has happened in my life, and I do plan on continuing writing. But I'll be branching out into other series and stories. Thanks for reading this long ramble, I got a couple more fics coming out (whenever I finish them)
