Chapter Text
It all started one night when Brick tapped on Blossom's window. Blossom didn't know what to expect seeing her enemy randomly showing up in the middle of the night with pretty severe injuries. That night Brick swallowed his pride and had asked for her help. He had nowhere else to go to receive Chemical X.
Since then, there had been several more incidents, each time worse than the last. Blossom had asked him several times on what was going on and if he needed help, but each time he would brush her off and say that it's not a big deal.
But it was a big deal to Blossom. Her overgrowing concern swallowing her whole. The feeling of needing to protect someone in need which is basically written in her DNA. Of course she could not voice this to Brick, he would just push her away.
So she does what she can for him, becomes a nurse of sorts each time. Needles and X always stocked in her private bathroom for him. Window unlocked so he can come in when he pleases. Her dragging him to the bathroom forcing him to sit down on the toilet while preparing a needle for him. Injecting it directly in his bloodstream. Letting him grip her hips while the X flows through, fixing broken bones and gashes. Face pressed into her stomach as he groans in pain. Always trying to keep quiet. Stroking his head in a loving manner and surprisingly he doesn't fight her on it. Quite the opposite, as he never received affection in his life. Once his hold loosens up, she cleans any dried up blood and grime from his body.
One night he comes in a much worse condition. He barely makes it through her window and she flies straight to him before he collapses on the floor.
"My god, Brick!" she exclaims. All of his weight is leaning on her. If she wasn't a super they both would have tumbled down. He groans against her and he is heaving for air.
She makes quick work in dragging him to the bathroom and sitting him down. Assessing the damage, she finds broken ribs and fears that one or both lungs are punctured. In a panic, Blossom pulls out the supplies and thankfully she had thought of restocking Chemical X earlier that day.
Once she has a needle filled with a larger dose of X, she grabs a hand towel and turns to Brick. He is sickly pale and it makes her insides turn as he leans against the wall holding his middle, breathing much more rapidly. Blossom forces herself to calm down so that she can get to work.
She firmly grabs his face and calls out to him in what she hopes is a reassuring voice. "Brick, I need you to open your mouth," shakily, Brick complies. Taking the hand towel, she places it into his mouth and he immediately bites down.
She then adjusts him into place, being extra careful as to not cause him any unnecessary pain. His hands on her hips and groaning sounds is what she registers as she reaches for the needle on the bathroom counter.
"I'm sorry, Brick," she whispers out as she pushes the plunger down. Muffled yelling comes out of Brick and he grips her so hard that she drops the used needle. She can already feel large bruises forming from his hold. If she had been a normal person she has no doubt that she would have been crushed from his strength.
Muffled cries is the noise he is making now, it breaks her heart because she knows how brutal X is in healing their bodies when they must add more to their system. She has never experienced it at this level though.
She soothes him as best she can, one hand massaging his scalp and the other rubbing his back.
His cries turn into groans and whimpers, but he stays in the same position as the X rearranges his bones and repairs damaged organs. Blossom can feel the tears soaking through her shirt and the shaky breaths that he takes.
After about 20 minutes, Brick seems to finally calm down and she knows that the worst is over. She holds him for a while longer quietly humming.
He finally leans back against the back of the toilet, head against the wall staring up at the ceiling. She knows that he's exhausted when he shuts his eyes. She picks up the rag that was in his mouth and the needle from the floor to dispose of. The towel is somewhat burnt thanks to his fire ability.
She then turns to the sink to start her routine of washing him down. He stares at her intently as she gets to work in washing her hands and walking around the bathroom to grab her supplies she keeps in here just for him.
When she's ready she turns to him. She gingerly takes off his beloved hat and places it on the counter. He knows this routine all too well, always starting with his face.
He looks up at her while she cleans his face. Always gentle. He can't help but think how pretty she looks when she is concentrating on her task.
Sometimes his shirt needs to be removed and this is definitely one of those times. Carefully pulling it up and over his head, she can see the gashes scattered over his chest and back. The shirt having several holes and stained with blood. She can't imagine what the wounds looked like before she gave him the X. She can see the wounds healing themselves and she sighs in relief in knowing that she will not need to give him another dose.
She tries not to stare when she cleans his upper body, but she would be lying if she said that she wasn't attracted to Brick.
The bowl she had filled with warm soapy water turns cold and red. Satisfied with her work, she asks Brick if there are wounds on his lower body and even in his condition, he lazily smirks at her and says, "No."
She rolls her eyes at him, but can't help the blush coloring her cheeks.
Brick shuts his eyes again, the bathroom lights being too bright for him. His head hurts and the X is trying to knock him out so it can finish healing him, but he won't have none of that.
Blossom makes him sit up, and he isn't sure for what but he is too tired to fight her. He then feels her fingers brushing through his hair after she pulls the elastic out. He usually fights her on fixing his hair since it is literally the least of his worries. Claiming that he'll deal with it later, but her fingers feel so good going through his auburn locks that he decides to just let it go.
Blossom is surprised that he's not putting up a fight. She figures the exhaustion is to blame. She retrieves a spray bottle full of water to help get the dried blood out. She wonders if all of the blood she has been cleaning off of him is just his, but she remembers how bloody his hands were and knows at least that blood did not come from him.
She then decides that she needs to use shampoo in his hair to get it all out. He's surprised and startled when he feels her douse water on his head. She is very careful not to make a mess and to not move him. She goes over to her shower to retrieve her shampoo and conditioner to use on him. Before he could protest, she lathers some shampoo on her palms and starts massaging it in.
And it feels so fucking good that he decides to let this go too. Just this once.
He notes the smell of strawberries and cream and it is so Blossom. It’s intoxicating.
He closes his eyes once more and the next thing he knows is that she's gently pulling and tugging his hair one way then another. He then realizes that she's braiding his hair. When he opens his mouth to protest, she's already tying off the end of the braid.
Whatever. He thinks.
He goes to stand, but the world starts to turn fuzzy and he's trying to tap into his super vision it's just not working. Blossom forces him back down onto the toilet and this only aggravates Brick.
"Brick, hold on. You need to rest for a bit." Blossom insisted. "Yeah, like that's an option." He mutters out.
Ignoring him, she helps him up and makes sure he doesn't fall over. He's dizzy and disoriented, but he's determined to leave. He pushes out of her grasp taking a few steps towards the window. His vision is swimming. Blossom hisses out his name and he feels like he's going to pass out.
Before he knows it, he feels like he's falling forward. Except, that he is falling forward. Blossom is able to catch him before he smacks face first into the glass of the window.
She lets out an exasperated sigh. Her frustration with him coming out.
"Will you stop being so damn stubborn and let me help you?" she whisper shouts.
Even in his state, he can still be an ass.
"Yeah? What's it to you?" he bites back.
"You're the one that comes looking for me Brick. Not the other way around." she whispers.
This stops him, because she's right. And he hates when she's right. This must be how Butch and Boomer feel with him, but unlike his brothers he can at least admit when he's wrong. He sighs.
"Look, I'm sorry. Okay? I'm not used to being out of control." He knows that her out of all people would know that feeling. She nods in understanding. "I know Brick, but you have to listen to me just this one time. You're in no condition of being out and about at this time. You'll probably fall out of the sky if you try to fly.” She states matter of factly.
More like out of the window. He thinks to himself.
He doesn't fight her anymore and allows her to move him on to her bed. Then he realizes that she's trying to put him to bed.
"Hey Pinky, what's the big idea?" he says when she tries to push him down. He won't budge.
"You need to rest Brick, or at least until the X fully goes through your system. "
He thinks about what she just said, but thinking right now makes him tired, and being tired puts down his defenses while she pushes him down again. This time being successful. He tries to fight it, but the bed is so comfortable and it smells just like her it makes his head go fuzzy with sleep.
The last thing he recalls is her tucking him in.
"Goodnight, Brick." and he's out like a light as Chemical X finally drags him under.
Chapter Text
As soon as Brick falls asleep, Blossom starts brainstorming her next idea. She double, triple, quadruple checks that her bedroom door is locked. Even though it's the dead of night she can't risk her sisters or the Professor barging into her room. Not that Bubbles or the Professor would, Buttercup was her main concern on that.
She tidies up her bathroom and when she reaches Brick’s shirt, she decides it is unsalvageable. Tattered beyond repair with blood stains. The shirt itself is a dark red, and the blood makes the stains almost look black.
Blossom then reaches for his hat that has some blood splatters. Now this is something she can fix. She scrubs it down and after a few minutes it is as good as new.
Satisfied with the bathroom, she comes back into her bedroom. Brick snoring away, oblivious to the world. She takes a moment to examine him. He looks very peaceful when he's not being cocky or sly.
She gently pushes back some pieces of hair that managed to escape his braid. Lightly brushing the pads of her fingers against his forehead. Examining the rest of him, she decides he looks funny in her pink sheets. Red was always his color, but despite that she feels like this is where he belongs anyway. Away from danger and whatever the hell problems he's been getting himself into.
Looking over at the alarm clock, it is now three in the morning. Deciding that there is not much to do at this point, she walks over to the other side of the bed to get some sleep.
She puts some pillows between them so that neither of them accidentally rolls over into the other. She slides into bed noting now much warmer the bed is because of his body heat. Whereas when it's just her, it is always cold due to her ice abilities.
She appreciates the change in temperature, being in a toasty bed. Rolling over onto her side she watches Brick breathe in and out and the pattern eventually puts her to sleep.
When she awakes it is 7:00 am. Her internal alarm clock being right on the dot. She realizes that she rolled on top of the pillows that she put as a barrier and basically cuddled up against Brick.
Blossom blushes and quickly gets up out of bed. Brick seems to still be completely out, so she examines his wounds and they are basically healed. If you look hard enough, you can see faint scars where damage was done. She knows this all too well from her own skin.
Deciding to get dressed for the day, she walks over to her closet and picks out an outfit. She dresses quickly in the bathroom just in case he happens to wake up.
As Blossom is brushing her hair, she can't help but wonder whthe other two Ruff’s are. Surely they would be in on whatever Brick was doing, right? She hasn't seen Butch and Boomer in quite sometime, but they surely would need help just like Brick.
Especially since they are more careless than Brick. They would also need X to help them heal. Perhaps even larger doses than what she has been giving Brick.
Her thoughts are interrupted when she hears Brick groan. Quickly finishing off her ponytail she goes to his side. His arm is thrown over his eyes and he has thrown the blanket off exposing his bare chest. She does her best to not stare.
"Brick?"
"I feel like shit." he moans out.
"You look like shit." she replies back.
"Well that's not very ‘everything nice’ of you.”
Well, at least he can volley remarks back.
She knows that he needs to rest, but the Professor and her sisters will be up soon. She helps him sit upon the edge of the bed, and her heart aches a little when he rubs his face.
Thankfully, he isn't fighting her and she helps him put on his shoes. Walking back to her closet, she pulls out a pink oversized tshirt that she uses for lounging around the house.
When she presents the shirt to him, he rolls his eyes.
"Really? Not even a white shirt?" he asks. Now it's her turn to roll her eyes. "It's only for a little while Brick. Just until I get you home."
He reluctantly agrees and lets her pull the shirt over his head. She steps back and admires him in his new color.
"Who's Pinky now?" she smirks. "Har har, take a picture. It will last longer." he says while being annoyed. Blossom laughs at this and Brick decides that it's nice to make her laugh instead of mad at him.
He blinks at this thought and mentally scoffs at himself. As if he should care about her feelings.
Well, maybe since she does help him.
Blossom sticks her head out into the hallway and makes sure that the coast is clear and then moves towards Brick to help him stand. He shoos her away claiming that he can do it, and they exit her bedroom.
They make it down the stairs and they both hear someone walking towards them. In a panic, Blossom shoves Brick into the coat closet and slams the door.
The Professor stands on the opposite end and gives her a questioning look. "Good morning, Blossom. Is everything alright?"
"Good morning, Professor! Yes, everything is alright. Just looking for my backpack. Guess it's not here." Blossom replies quickly. Brick rolls his eyes. She is such a terrible liar. The Professor lifts an eyebrow at this. "Are you sure? I could've sworn I saw it in there last night."
"Really? Let me check again." she says before the Professor makes a move to look. Brick looks around and grabs the first backpack he sees as she opens the door he hands it to her.
She grabs it and just as quickly flings it back at him. Confused and groaning at the force he realizes he handed her a white and blue backpack. He quickly corrects himself and hands her a pink and red backpack.
She slams the door again and he gives a frustrated sigh at how obvious she is being.
"Yep, here it is! Bubbles put her backpack right on top of mine." Blossom states.
The Professor gives her a funny look, but thankfully doesn't question her.
"That's good, I'll be down in the lab today if you need me alright?" he says. "Yes, alright I am going to be out for a bit going on a study date." she says. Brick lifts an eyebrow at this. A study date? Really? Although, this time it didn't sound like a lie.
"Oh, with that nice boy? What's his name again?" The Professor asks.
"Dexter," Blossom replies. Brick recalls hearing that name in the news a few times. Boy Genius Moves to Townsville. The thought of Blossom spending time with him willingly? Barf.
Although, the thought of this irks Brick all the same.
"Ah, yes, Dexter. Nice young man,” he says with a thoughtful voice. Brick doesn't miss the approving tone he uses while saying this. Of course he would think that Dexter would be a good match for his highly intelligent daughter. Why wouldn't he?
"Well, I must get down to the lab. I need to get more Chemical X. I feel like I have been going through those vials rather quickly." the Professor says walking past Blossom. She internally winces. She was hoping that he wouldn't notice the supply of Chemical X going down. Brick, on the other hand, is slightly amused that she had been stealing some for his benefit. But he also felt like an ass about it.
"Yes Professor, I will see you later. Bye!” Blossom says.
"Bye! I love you. Stay safe," he says.
Brick hears a dolor open and close from a distance and then Blossom opens the door.
"You are such a terrible liar." he says scowling. "Well excuse me, I’ve never had a reason to lie before." she says crossing her arms and making her way to the front door.
"Yeah, like the study date? Really Pinky? On a Saturday? Who'd believe that?" he says before realizing what he is saying. He didn't mean to bring that up, but since it's already out in the open...
He’s following her out of her house as the conversation continues.
“What? That wasn’t a lie.” she says as she locks the door. He had suspected that she was telling the truth, but he was dumbfounded all the same.
"Really? With that dweeb?" he says. Blossom gives him a confused look. "I didn't know you knew Dexter, he is highly intelligent." she says. Her face turns into a smirk "Why? You jealous?”
He rolls his eyes at her "First of all, no I don't know him and second, as if.”
“Whatever you say, Pinky.” she says walking past him. She knew it was a stretch for Brick to be jealous. He could honestly hate her for all she knew.
He huffs in response at the name and follows her. He gets in the car as she turns on the engine. He is grateful at the fact that she doesn’t bring up that he can’t fly or use most of his powers from how much damage he took last night. He suspects that he’ll be good as new in the afternoon.
They make it to Mojo Jojo’s old lair that the RowdyRuff Boys claimed as their own after Mojo left town for good.
As Brick is opening the door Blossom speaks up. “Brick. I know you don’t want to tell me what’s going on, but please just be careful.”
This stops Brick in his tracks. Does she actually care or is this a good little super hero speaking?
“I know what I’m doing Blossom.” he says stepping out of the car and slamming the door.

Thank you for all the kudos and the very nice comment I received🥹
Chapter Text
The next month or so is pretty uneventful for Blossom. The end of the school year was fast approaching and while she is focused on school and being the top of the class, she can’t help but be distracted.
She hasn’t seen or heard from her counterpart since his last incident and she has no idea if she should be relieved or worried about it. Had he finally escaped whatever situation that he was in, or had something bad happen to him that he was unable to reach her?
The thought gnaws at the back of her mind.
She had been paying close attention to the news and anything that had to do with criminals to see if there was any indication of him or even his brothers. Every time she has came out empty handed.
Even her sisters had picked up at the strange behavior. Blossom always used the school excuse, but she knows that she can’t use it forever once summer rolls around.
For the first time in her life she feels useless. It seems like she cannot grasp the concept that she is powerless in this situation. No matter how much she digs at Brick’s whereabouts, nothing comes up. Not even a small detail.
It’s like he doesn’t want to be found.
Brick has always been smart and resourceful so if he truly didn’t want to be found, he was doing a pretty damn good job of it. Especially since Blossom can’t seem to find a single little trace.
In the frenzy of him leaving her house last time, he had left behind his beloved hat. Which Blossom now keeps in a safe place hidden away in her closet. She fully intends on giving it back, but that’s a hard thing to do when the owner cannot be located.
Of course the thought of him being dead always sat in the back of her mind, but she cannot even begin to fathom that as a certain possibility. He is a super like she is. Tough as nails. He’s just as smart as she is so how could he have gotten himself killed?
These thoughts comfort her somewhat, but then she thinks about the condition that he was in the last time she seen him and those those thoughts fly out the window.
Which leads us to now.
Blossom was studying in her bedroom when she received an alert on her hotline device that the RowdyRuff Boys were causing a disturbance at the junkyard.
She stares at the small device in disbelief and rereads it over and over to make sure she’s not imagining the words. Finally coming to her senses, she makes a quick grab at her shoes and flies out the window. Not even bothering in alerting her sisters about it. She can take care of them herself.
As Blossom approaches the junkyard she can hear loud hooting and hollering coming from below and she makes a swift landing behind a pile of junk so she can observe the perpetrators.
Her heart sinks into her feet so fast when all she sees is Butch and Boomer.
They seem to be having a competition on who can throw a car the farthest which is being thrown dangerously close to town.
She scans the area several times to try and see the red Ruff, but she is coming up short. She even goes around the junkyard to confirm that he is not here somewhere perhaps even taking score for Butch and Boomer.
Hell, she almost leaves the junkyard completely to where the cars are being thrown at to see if by chance he is somewhere over there.
Becoming frustrated with the situation, she flies up into the air and catches one of the flying cars and chucks it back the way it came.
She can hear Boomer scream and see Butch jumping out of the way from the incoming car.
“What the hell? What gives?!” Butch shouts while looking up at the sky.
Blossom lands several feet in front of both of the boys.
“I should be asking you the same thing,” she says crossing her arms.
“Oh, it’s you.” Butch says. “I almost mistaken you for Brick.” He says looking unamused.
Her heart hammers in her chest at the mention of Brick.
“Oh, I’m sure,” she replies. “Speaking of, I only see two of you, where’s the third?” She asks looking at Butch and then at Boomer. Boomer seems to be in a state of shock from the car being thrown at him unexpectedly.
“How the hell am I supposed to know?” Butch says. “Actually I could ask you the same. Where’s the other two?” He asks quirking an eyebrow.
Blossom ponders on Butch’s response on not knowing where Brick was. She can’t tell if he’s being truthful or just not wanting to tell her.
“I gave them the day off,” she says not missing a beat. “Huh, wish you would have given them the day off back when we were younger.” Butch says also crossing his arms, keeping his guard up.
“You almost hit us with a car!” Boomer exclaims. His voice and mind catching up to him. “Who does that?!” He exclaims. Blossom rolls her eyes and Butch gives a frustrated sigh.
“You have superpowers you would have been fine!” Butch snaps at him. “Yeah, but we weren’t doing anything!” Boomer says with wide eyes.
“You were throwing cars pretty close to town, so I wouldn’t call that, ‘not doing anything.’” Blossom responds.
“Oh, relax Pink. We weren’t aiming at the town.” Butch says.
“Yeah!” Boomer chimes in.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. I received a distress call,” Blossom says. “Anyways you didn’t answer my question on Brick.” She says, trying to steer the conversation back.
“Like I said. How am I supposed to know? One day he is here the next he’s not. Didn’t say crap to us. Probably found a new group to cause trouble with. Especially with the way he has been acting.” Butch says. Blossom doesn’t miss the very quiet sad note in his voice.
Boomer, on the other hand, does look sad about the absence of his brother.
“What? He left without a trace?” Blossom says. “Looks to be that way.” Butch says.
Blossom’s suspicions about the other two Ruff’s involvement appear to be true. They absolutely weren’t involved with whatever Brick has been doing.
“Alright, I will let you two off with a warning,” Blossom starts, “if you promise to let me know if you hear anything about Brick.” Butch’s eyebrow raises and Boomer looks to be in disbelief.
“We weren’t doing anything,” he mumbles kicking at dirt.
“Now, why exactly would we do that?” Butch says and then another thought pops into his head. “Better yet, why do you even care?”
Blossom has been asking herself this question several times, but never could give an answer.
“I’m just worried about you two,” she says. “Look, I will do the same if I hear anything.” She promises.
Boomer seems to perk up at the idea, but Butch doesn’t seem convinced.
“Why should we trust you?” He jabs back.
“Because I care.” She states.
Butch stares at her for a moment before answering. “Fine, but only so I can kick Brick’s ass for leaving me with Boomer.” He says.
“Hey!” Boomer says.
“How would we reach you if something does come up?” Butch questions, ignoring Boomer.
“I’m only one distress call away.” She says pulling out her hotline device. Thankfully, she is the only one who has one. Buttercup has lost hers long ago and Bubbles had dropped hers in the toilet and never got another one. Crime had gone down quite a bit since they were kids, but they both depended on Blossom to share anything that happens.
Working out some final details and agreeing to only cause trouble if necessary, Blossom hurries back home. Hoping that Buttercup and Bubbles haven’t noticed her absence.
Her wishful thinking comes up short when she arrives back through her bedroom window and both her sisters are there.
“Where the heck were you?!” Buttercup says angrily. Holding up Blossom’s cellphone that appears to have several texts and missed calls.
“Out,” Blossom says, feeling a headache coming on. It was enough dealing with Butch’s questioning now she has to deal with Buttercup’s. Two peas in a pod.
“Yes, I see that.” Buttercup says irritated. “But you could have taken your phone, or told us that you were going out.”
“We thought something bad happened to you. You never do anything like that.” Bubbles says tears lining her eyes.
Blossom feels like an ass for not saying anything. She was gone quite awhile and she didn’t mean to scare them like that.
“Look, I’m sorry. I just forgot to return a book at the library and it was going to be overdue. I didn’t mean to scare you.” She says. Another lie. She has been lying a lot more lately ever since Brick has been in whatever trouble he has found himself in.
Buttercup seems to accept her answer. “Fine, just don’t do it again.” She says.
The trio chat for a little longer and then bid each other goodnight.
Blossom gets ready for bed and lets her mind wander back to Brick and his brothers. She can’t imagine just up and leaving her sisters, so how could Brick do that to his brothers?
They are counterparts, while they have a handful of differences they have many similarities. Their siblings and being the leader of their respective team being one of them.
She also thinks about how Butch reacted and compares it to how Buttercup was acting a moment ago. Under their hard exterior, they still care tremendously. Likewise for Bubbles and Boomer with expressing their emotions.
So if Brick is like Blossom then he also feels the heat of being the leader that they need.
There is something bigger going on with Brick that has made him leave and that has made him exclude his brothers.
Blossom contemplates on whether or not she actually should be getting involved. Brick is intelligent, but the last time he came to her he nearly scared her to death in the condition he was in.
So once she turns herself into bed, she decides that she should at least look for him and keep up her end of the deal with Butch and Boomer.

Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Chapter Text
Butch and Boomer decide to start investigating Brick’s room to see if they can find any clues on his whereabouts. The first thing they found is a pink shirt in the exact shade of Blossom’s signature color tucked away in the bottom drawer of Brick’s dresser.
“See? I knew something was going on with that puff. Fuck!” Butch yells, throwing the shirt to the ground. “We don’t know that for sure, Butch.” Boomer says, staring at the discarded shirt. “Don’t be so naive Boomer. You know exactly how Brick was acting. Especially when he didn’t want to cause any trouble and started acting all weird.” Butch says in annoyance with Boomer.
Boomer can’t deny this. Brick would always brush them off when they wanted to cause some mayhem in town. He doesn’t really remember the last time they had caused any trouble. Besides yesterday with their little run in with Blossom.
Butch continues to go through Brick’s drawers pulling them one by one and taking all contents out making an absolute mess. Finding nothing else in the dresser, he moves on to the closet.
Boomer decides to start helping or he will never hear the end of it from Butch. He moves to Brick’s desk and starts pulling the drawers out. He at least is trying to be careful and not mess up Brick’s stuff too much. Then he will never hear the end of it from Brick.
He starts pulling stuff out not really finding anything of use. Once he gets to one of the bigger drawers, he notices that there is a false bottom.
Boomer starts to contemplate his options. He could invade Brick’s privacy and snoop in whatever he is hiding and maybe find a clue or find something that Brick just wanted to keep private. He looks behind his back at Butch to see him still throwing things around from Brick’s closet.
He decides that he will look and if it’s nothing of importance then he won’t get Butch involved.
He quietly pulls the wood out and finds a small stack of opened letters. He checks again on Butch seeing him open random boxes from the top shelves. He carefully picks the top one up and sees that there is no sender address. Just their address with Brick’s name on it written in a very dark red.
Boomer carefully pulls the letter out from the envelope and reads it over. Each sentence more confusing than the last. He sees the date and it was the day Brick had gone missing. He pulls out the rest of the stack and starts from the beginning. Reading over all the letters the last one makes more sense, but still confusing all the same.
All he knows for sure that Brick is in some deep shit.
“Hey Butch, you’re gonna want to take a look at this.”
As usual, Blossom has her communicator fully charged and ready at a moment’s notice. However, she checks it every five minutes waiting for anything concerning the RRB. The few times it has gone off in the past few days was just petty crimes. She made sure to take some extra rounds around Townsville for any inkling of Brick, but always coming up short.
Days have passed by since her encounter with the boys. She wonders if they actually believed her when she said that she would help. They have no reason to trust her. She knows this.
So when her communicator finally goes off indicating the Ruffs, she almost leaps for joy. The problem is her sisters are there when the communicator goes off.
“What is it?” Bubbles asks, looking up from her homework. “Yeah, what is it? I need a break from these books.” Buttercup says standing up from the table to go slip on her shoes.
Blossom suddenly feels nervous. They have never not gone together to a crime scene, besides the one time with the boys.
“Uh, nothing. This stupid communicator seems to be broken. It has been going off randomly lately. I need to have it checked out.” She says blocking off the notification. She sends a memo to the mayor’s office that they are on their way.
“Broken? You never break anything.” Buttercup says, trying to catch a look at the communicator. “Yeah, I don’t know. I’m done with my homework so I am going to take it up to the mayor’s office and see if they can fix it.” Blossom says. Stuffing the communicator into her pocket. Hoping that they will buy it.
“Okay, we will come with you. It’s about time Buttercup and I get a replacement.” Bubbles says shutting her textbook.
“No! It’s fine. You two have a lot of homework. I will go and have them give me the replacements.” Blossom says in a burst. Both her sisters give her a questioning look. “Are you sure? I don’t think it will take long if we all go.” Bubbles says.
“Yes I’m sure.” Blossom says standing up from her spot at the table.
“Alright, if you say so.” Buttercup says.
“I’ll be back soon.” Blossom says leaving the house quickly.
More lies that can be added to Blossom’s list. More to come once she figures out what to tell them about their replacement communicators. She will just have to cross that bridge when she gets there.
She goes to an abandoned construction site that the communicator indicated the trouble to be at. When she arrives, she sees them just destroying stuff. Better than them stealing or causing distress to citizens she supposes.
“Hey!” She shouts at them, grabbing their attention. “About time you showed up.” Butch says. Dropping a large piece of metal to the ground and dusting off his hands.
Blossom lands in front of him and Boomer coming over soon after.
“So what did you find?” Blossom asks. Getting straight to the point.
“Now hold your horses Pink, you got some explaining to do.” Butch says, indicating to Boomer. Boomer quickly takes off his backpack and pulls out a pink shirt. The one she had let Brick use the last time she had seen him.
Lying right now doesn’t seem like a good idea if they actually know something about Brick.
“Look. Brick would come see me late at nigh-“
“See! I told you! You owe me twenty bucks!” Boomer exclaims at Butch.
“Damn. I didn’t think Brick would get involved with you, and that you would let him. That dog.” Butch says while crossing his arms. Slightly amused.
“What? No! It’s not like that!” Blossom says in shock at what they are insinuating. Face turning as red as a tomato.
“Then what’s it like, Pink?” Butch asks.
She frowns at what seems to be a permanent nickname.
“He would show up to my house severely injured, and he knew that I have a stock of Chemical X. He just needed help, that's all.” Blossom says, hoping to get their heads out of the gutter.
“And you didn’t think to tell us that a few days ago?” Butch says with anger.
“I don’t know what he has and hasn’t told you.” She says defensively.
“He hasn’t told us anything. Just not to worry about him.” Boomer says.
“Did he say how he got hurt?” Butch asks.
“No. He would never tell me what was going on.” She answers honestly. “Now, did you find anything besides the shirt?”
“Yeah, we found these letters a few days ago.” Butch says while Boomer takes them out.
“A few days ago?! Why didn’t you call me sooner?” Blossom exclaims. “I don’t think you’re in a position to be doing all that.” Butch says with a glare.
“Fine.” She says. Glaring right back at him.
Boomer hands the letters over explaining that they are in order.
Blossom takes her time reading them. Threats being made at Brick and his brothers, but it is unclear from who it’s from.
The only thing that is clear is that Brick signed up for something that he didn’t want to partake in.
The last line of the last letter sends chills down her spine. How do they know?
You think candy eyes can save you now?
Chapter Text
Blossom couldn’t take any chances. The letters made it seem that Butch and Boomer might be next in whatever mess Brick has found himself in. Though, it sounds like he has been keeping them safe from that.
Either way, she snuck in through her bedroom window and stocked Butch and Boomer with Chemical X that she had stored in her bathroom and made it very clear that they always have it with them. She also gave them her number with instructions to call her if they needed anything. Day or night.
Butch had rolled his eyes and told her that they’ll be fine. She went on to tell him how bad Brick’s injuries were. He pales at the description, but he takes the vials. “Well if it will make you feel better. I’ll take them.” He had said. She agreed that it would just to make him feel better.
Boomer had agreed with no complaint, but he had also paled at the description of Brick’s injuries and clutched the vials tighter. A plan already forming on how to carry them around with him. Also making sure that Butch would too. Can’t risk losing another brother.
She also actually did stop by Town Hall and received two new communicators for her sisters. Activated and ready to go. No longer having to worry about the boys causing trouble for the time being.
When she returns home she is glad that they take the communicators without questions.
Blossom had snapped some photos of the letters the boys had found. Reading them over with more time to analyze.
An undisclosed place being mentioned throughout the letters. Just a red door being the only description. If only she can figure out where this place is. Maybe she could find some clues.
Meanwhile…
“Are you sure we shouldn’t tell Blossom?” Boomer asks Butch, trying to keep up with his fast pace. “Yes, I’m sure. What’s the number one rule of this place?” Butch responds while getting agitated with the blue ruff.
“Villains only.” Boomer mumbles. “And?” Butch says. “Never speak of it except with other villains.” Boomer finishes. “Exactly. If we find something we find something. If we don’t then we don’t.”
“What happens if we do find something?” He questions. “Depends on what that something is Boom.” Butch answers. “Now remember, I do the talking.” he says. Boomer nods.
They come up to a red door, ending the conversation. Located on what is deemed the bad side of Townsville. To those who don’t know about this place, it just seems like a random door in the alley. No official name given. Butch does a secret knock and the door opens just enough to let them in.
The smell of cigars and cigarettes invades the space mixed with the fumes of alcohol. The lights dimmed over tables on the left and the large bar area on the right. The back of the space is filled with a variety of table games.
Butch and Boomer make their way towards the bar and take a seat.
“Hey, Greg!” Butch calls over to the bartender, Greg.
“Well well well, if it isn’t the RowdyRuff Boys. Haven’t seen you in awhile.” He says. Then notice that it is just two out of the three. “Say you’re missing one.”
“Yup, it’s just me and Boom tonight.” Butch says. “Oh yeah? Where’s Brick?” Greg questions while serving them their usual Jack and Coke.
“Well, actually that’s why we’re here. You see, I was wondering if Brick has been coming here lately in the past few months.” Butch says, accepting his drink.
Greg thinks about it before he answers. “Yeah. Brick has been here a handful of times.”
Boomer perks up at this and Butch leans in closer. “Did he ever say what he was doing?”
“Hm, no. Just asks for his usual and y'know just small talk.” Greg says while polishing a glass.
“Okay. How about who he was talking to?” Butch asks.
“Princess.” He answers quickly. “Okay, besides Princess. She’s a whore.” Butch says. Knowing very well how Princess operates within the villain community. None of the RRB give her the time of day. “You’re not wrong on that one. I do recall him talking to Ace a few times.” Greg says. The two Ruffs exchange a look. “Say, what’s with all the questioning? Something going on?” Greg asks.
“Nope. Don’t worry about it.” Butch says slipping him a one hundred dollar bill. “Be sure to keep this between us.”
“You got it boss.” Greg says. Pocketing the money and turning his attention to the next customer.
“What now?” Boomer whispers. “Gotta find Ace.” Butch says. Chugging the rest of his drink and dropping some money to pay for them. He swivels his chair around and comes face to face with Princess. Oh joy.
“Hey Butchy Boy.” She says. A wicked smile plastered on. “Princess.” He replies.
“I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with the bartender.” She says, batting her eyelashes. Trying to portray an innocent girl but reeks of filth. “Greg.” he starts. “Yes, I’m sure you did. Did you hear the part where I called you a whore?” He asks. Boomer snorts beside him.
She looks shocked. No, she did not hear that part. She brushes it off. “Whatever. I'm comfortable with my sexuality. Thank you very much.” She says with a sneer. Innocent girl act gone.
“Well you better get comfortable with STDs while you’re at it.” Butch says. This lights a fire under Princess’ ass. “You are such a jerk! Do you know who my daddy is?! I can have you put behind bars so fast!” She shrieks.
“Oh no, I’m shaking in my boots.” Butch says with a bored tone. Boomer snickers at this. They all know that no jail is a match for the RRB.
Princess’ face turns red from the anger.
“You and your stupid powers! The lot of you!” She screams. “What? You still mad that you’re not a Puff? Get over yourself.” Butch says, getting up from his seat at the bar. He’s about had it with this conversation.
Boomer follows Butch as he turns to leave, but Princess isn’t done yet.
“Yeah! Run away like your stupid brother Brick!” She shouts.
This stops both Ruffs in their tracks. “What’d you say to me?” Butch says looking over his shoulder.
“You heard me!” She says. Crossing her arms over her chest. Butch faces her once more.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Butch asks. “I don’t have to tell you shit!” She says. Turning on her heel and making her way to an empty table. Butch is about to follow her but Boomer stops him.
“You’re just gonna piss her off more. Let me deal with it.” Boomer says. Butch huffs but let’s Boomer take the lead. Boomer makes his way towards Princess. Butch trailing behind.
Princess sees them approaching and her scowl deepens.
“What do you want now?” She says in an irritated tone. “Hey, we don't want to fight. Butch here just wants to say sorry. He didn’t mean to upset you.” Boomer says in a calm and reassuring tone. Butch gives Boomer a glare. If anyone can pull an innocent act out of their ass and pull it off, it’s Boomer.
Princess looks at Butch expectantly.
“I’m sorry for upsetting you.” He says. The words feel foreign in his mouth. Never having to apologize in his life. “And?” Boomer says. Wanting to get on her good side.
“And I’m sorry for calling you a whore.” He adds. Insulting words on the tip of his tongue that he has to bite back before he royally pisses her off.
“Thank you.” Princess says. Seeing that all is forgiven, Boomer takes a seat across from her. Butch slams himself down in the empty chair next to him.
“So, you said something about Brick running away. What was that about?” Boomer asks, his interrogation starting.
“I overheard him talking to Ace once. Said something about needing to leave.” She starts. Looking at her manicured nails. “Ace had told him that he better decide fast, or his little problem was going to catch up to him eventually.”
“Do you know what that problem could be?” Boomer asks. “No idea.” She says. Seemingly bored with the conversation already. “Well, is there anything else that you know?” Butch asks. Princess thinks about it for a moment before she answers.
“The only other thing is that someone was going to get hurt. They didn’t mention who though.” She finishes.
“Thank you so much Princess.” Boomer says with a warm smile.
She feels discomfort from the kindness. Used to people always being mean or cruel. “Uh… you’re welcome.” Boomer kicks Butch from under the table. Butch shoots him a glare, Boomer is unphased and keeps his smile on. “Thanks…” Butch says. Princess nods.
Boomer buys her a drink and both the Ruffs head out. Their next destination being Townsville dump. When they arrive, they know exactly where to look for the Ganggreen Gang’s “house.” Having been here before when they were younger and stumbling upon it.
They knock on the makeshift door and Big Billy is the one who answers. The putrid smell from inside the house reaching the boy's nose. Making them lightheaded, Boomer nearly gagging. “Rowdyruff Boys?” He questions. “Hey Big Billy, is Ace here?” Boomer asks.
“Hey, Ace!” Big Billy shouts over his shoulder. “What do ya want?” Ace says from somewhere inside. “Visitors!” He shouts back.
Ace appears. Big Billy moving out of the way to let him through. “Can I help you?” He asks with irritation. “Yeah we got some questions and you got the answers.” Butch says.
“About what?” Ace asks. “About Brick.” Boomer replies. “I don’t know nothing about Brick.” Ace says. “That’s not what we heard.” Butch responds back.
Ace narrows his eyes at them. “I don’t care what you heard. I’m telling you that I don’t know anything about Brick.” He says. Trying to slam the door, but Butch stops it with his foot.
“I don’t think so.” Butch says, shoving his way in while Ace topples over. Boomer cautiously following behind. Not wanting to touch anything. Everything looks like it would be sticky and he’s not about that life.
Butch pulls Ace up from the floor and plops him down on a chair. “Hey man! Easy!” Ace says, slapping Butch’s hands away. Composing himself.
The rest of the gang comes in hearing all of the commotion and are in a fighting stance. “You good, Ace?” Snake says, eyeing the boys suspiciously. Butch butts in before he can respond.
“All good. We don’t want to fight.” He says focusing his attention on Ace. He pulls up a chair and sits on it backwards. Boomer by his side keeping an eye on the rest of the gang.
“Now, I need you to tell me everything you know about what’s going on with Brick.” Butch says. Getting straight to the point. Even through Ace’s sunglasses, Butch knows that he’s giving him a death glare. “Or what?”
“You don’t want to find out.” Butch answers coolly. Now Ace is no dummy. Fighting the Puffs is one thing. They play fair. The Ruffs on the other hand, are ruthless. Especially Butch.
Butch takes the silence as Ace’s cooperation. “Where’s Brick?” He starts. Getting back on track. “I don’t know.” Ace says.
“What’s Brick involved in?” Next question. Butch is determined to get something out of him. “Don’t know.” Ace says once more.
Butch gives him a cold look. Not liking his answers in the slightest.
“Well what do you know?” Butch asks, irritation laced in his words. Ace figures that he can’t get out of this one, but he’ll be damned if he doesn't try. He leans in closer to Butch and spits right in his face.
The silence that follows is deafening.
Then all hell breaks loose.
Butch has Ace by the shirt, holding him up in the air. Eyes glowing red from anger.
The rest of the gang react and are ready to attack Butch. Boomer steps in quickly, blocking the gang’s way to the green Ruff.
The fight starts when Lil Arturo throws a nearby lamp at Boomer.
Boomer catches it with no problem, but as he suspected, the items in this house are disgusting. He flings the lamp back in the gang’s direction in a rush to stop touching it and hits Big Billy in the head causing him to fall over. Taking out Snake with him.
Ace is trying to find a way out from Butch’s hold but it’s no use. Butch has his fist ready to connect with his face.
“Do something you idiots!” Ace screams at his gang. Then quiets down when a fist hits him square in the nose. Blood rushing down quickly. “Just talk Ace. It doesn’t have to get more violent.” Butch says. Trying to keep his cool. Still reeling from him spitting in his face. Ace just starts kicking and trying to land a hit on Butch, and he succeeds with a kick to the gut.
This knocks the air out of Butch and Ace is able to escape from his hold. He makes a run for the door with Butch hot on his heels.
Lil’ Arturo and Grubber run towards Boomer. Grubber attacks Boomer first and Lil’ Arturo runs between his legs to get to Butch.
Boomer grabs Grubber before he can land a hit and uses him like a bat and knocks Lil’ Arturo out the window.
Throwing Grubber at the remaining members, Boomer follows Butch and Ace outside. Ace is close to the exit of Townsville dump when Butch crashes into him and they both go flying into town into a nearby building.
Boomer quickly catches up and notices nearby pedestrians on their phones. In that moment, he knew they were in big trouble.
Back at the Utonium household…
Blossom had just finished blow drying her hair and was ready to call it a night when her communicator went off. She could also hear her sister’s devices somewhere in the house going off.
Picking it up she sees the screen flashing:
Ganggreen Gang +1
Blossom clicks on the notification and feels anger as Rowdyruff Boys pops up on the screen.
She sees that a video is attached that a citizen sent in. Pressing play, she sees Boomer standing and looking at the crowd and looks like he just realized something. Four members of the Gang are in the background running to catch up to him.
Boomer’s attention is quickly averted to his left. The person recording moves their phone in the same direction. Butch pops up from a damaged building and reaches in and pulls up Ace from the rubble.
The video ends there and then Buttercup barges into her bedroom with Bubbles trailing behind.
“We gotta go!” Buttercup tells her. Blossom nods knowing there’s nothing she can do to convince her sisters to stay behind.
All three heroines fly through the window and make their way to the location of the fight.
Boomer and Butch are just finishing up their fight when Ace has agreed to give them intel on Brick when the Puffs show up.
“Ah shit.” Butch mutters looking up at the sky.
Blossom glares at them as she floats in the air. Her sisters are behind her waiting for her command.
“I told you we should have told Blossom.” Butch whispers to Boomer, and if looks could kill Butch would be a dead man.

Chapter Text
“What is going on here?” Blossom asks as her and her sisters land. She glares at the Ruffs, but Ace is the one who speaks up.
“Oh Puffs! Thank goodness you're here! These criminals barged into our house for no reason!” He exclaims. Pointing an accusatory finger at Butch and Boomer.
“Nuh uh Ace they’re asking about Brick. Remember?” Big Billy chimes in. Ace face palms. Blossom figured it had something to do with him. She just isn’t sure how Butch and Boomer narrowed it down to the GangGreen Gang.
“Big Billy, what have I told you about butting in?” Ace says with frustration.
“Brick? Why would you guys be asking them about him?” Buttercup asks.
“None of your business.” Butch says.
Buttercup narrows her eyes at him getting closer. He steps closer as well as if challenging her. “It is my business if you’re destroying the town because of it.” She says.
“Buttercup,” Blossom warns. Not wanting to start a fight with the ruffs.
“Yeah Butch. Cool it.” Boomer says while putting a hand on Butch’s shoulder. Not wanting Butch to set off Buttercup.
“C’mon, Butterbaby. Knock some sense into him.” Ace says.
“Ew. Don’t call me that.” Buttercup says. Turning her attention to Ace.
“Aw. C’mon hot stuff don’t be like that.” Ace says in a flirty tone. Further angering Buttercup.
Boomer snorts at the interaction while Buttercup starts bickering at Ace. “Hey Butch, if he thinks Buttercup is hot, does he think you’re hot too?” Boomer says laughing.
“Boomer, I will punch you so hard that you’ll wonder how much money the tooth fairy will give you for all the teeth you lose.” Butch says in an aggravated tone.
This leads to the ruffs to start bickering back and forth. A fight ensues with Buttercup and the Gang and Bubbles joins in to help her.
Blossom’s frustration hits its peak and without thinking she freezes the GangGreen Gang and her sisters.
The ruffs look stunned as they observe their respective counterparts and the Gang frozen in their spots. All of them in frozen fighting stances from hand to hand combat.
“What the hell Pink!” Butch shouts at Blossom as she approaches.
“Don’t start with me Butch.” Blossom says. “What is going on here?” She repeats her question, anger still laced in her words.
“Well we would’ve gotten some answers if you would have waited five more minutes.” Butch says with a glare. Blossom returns an even deadlier one.
“Okay, okay. Let’s not start anything else. We just heard that Ace has some insight on Brick. Nothing else.” Boomer says, trying to de-escalate the situation.
“Then how did it turn into a fight?” Blossom asks. “Ace wasn’t cooperating.” Butch says.
Blossom narrows her eyes at them. Wheels turning in her head as always. “Oh c’mon Pink. Don’t give me that look. Brick gives us that same damn look before he starts questioning us a shit ton.” Butch says.
“What look?” A new voice chimes in. Blossom and the ruffs face towards the frozen mess and see Brick examining the frozen fight.
“Brick?” They all say at once.
Blossom feels a weight lifted from her shoulders at seeing Brick in one piece and alive. She takes a moment to look him over from where she stands. Noting that he looks healthier than ever. A black hat sitting on his head replacing the one she has back at home. When his blood red eyes meet hers though, it feels cold.
Boomer runs up to him excitedly. Happy to see his big brother back. Butch follows.
Tearing his eyes from Blossom he smiles at his brothers.
“Where the hell have you been man?” Butch questions.
“Just taking care of some business. Got it all sorted now.” Brick says. “We were worried about you. Why were you gone so long?” Boomer is next with questions.
“Yeah, sorry about that. Don’t worry about it though.” He reassures. Eyes meeting Blossom’s once more as she stands awkwardly to the side. “Hey guys can you give us a minute?” Brick says to his brothers.
Butch and Boomer look at one another and then at Blossom. Without saying a word they both walk off.
Brick watches them go and then focuses his attention back on Blossom.
“What the hell are you doing going on a little search party for me?” Is the first thing out of Brick’s mouth.
Blossom eyes go wide. Feeling like she was just slapped in the face. “Excuse me? I was worried sick about you Brick! I thought you were dead!” She exclaims.
“So what if I was? I told you I know what I’m doing. And getting Butch and Boomer involved? Really?” He says coldly. She feels the bite of his words, colder than what her ice powers could do.
“They were worried about you too! I can’t believe you right now. You were on the brink of death the last time I saw you!” She says. Trying to keep her voice down, but failing miserably.
“They didn’t need to know that or anything else for that matter, Blossom.” He says sternly. Referring to her by her real name instead of some silly little nickname.
“So what? I was supposed to sit here and wonder what the hell happened to you?” She says.
“Why the fuck do you even care Blossom? You can’t save everybody.” Brick says harshly. This stuns Blossom into silence.
“Hey man. Calm down. She was just trying to help.” Butch says. Deciding to interfere since Brick is being a jackass. Boomer right beside him.
“No, it’s fine Butch. My mistake. It won’t happen again.” Blossom says bitterly, stepping past them. Fighting back tears and trying to stay composed.
Going back to her sisters using her laser vision to try to get them out of their frozen state. Brick rolls his eyes at this and steps closer. Using his fire power to unfreeze everyone and being careful not to burn them.
“What the hell just happened?” Buttercup says. Drenching wet from the melted ice. “Ugh my shoes and socks are all soggy.” Bubbles says, wiping her hair out of her face.
Buttercup looks around and sees Brick standing with his brothers. “See there he is and you guys are just making a mess. Morons.” Buttercup says in annoyance.
“Let’s go.” Blossom says turning away. Ready to head back home. “But Blossom,” Bubbles starts, but doesn’t get to finish.
“I said, let’s go!” Blossom repeats, in a stern tone turning back around to face them. The kind of tone and look that makes her sisters listen to her. Brick doesn’t miss the very upset look on her face.
“Geez, who pissed in her cereal.” Buttercup mutters out to Bubbles as they follow her home.
“You really didn’t need to go off on her like that Brick. You’re not being fair.” Boomer says. Butch nods in agreement. “Pink was just looking out for you. No need to treat her like that.” Butch says. Even though he has a hard exterior, Butch knows how to care.
“That’s enough.” Brick says, facing them.
“Well anyways, glad to see you’re back Brick. Me and the boys are just gonna head out,” Ace says, finally getting a chance to chime in this tense situation.
“Not so fast, Ace. I need a word with you.” Brick says. “You two, go home.” He orders his siblings.
“Geez, if you’re going to be an asshole all the time now you should’ve just stayed wherever you were.” Butch says. Brick narrows his eyes at him. “Let’s go, Boom.” Butch says. No need to start a fight with Brick. With that they both fly off.
The rest of the Gang departs and now it’s just Brick and Ace.
“What the hell did you tell them?” Brick starts. Cutting to the chase.
“Nothing man. Beating the shit out of me and my boys. You need to control them two.” Ace says.
“Don’t tell me what to do. I know you were about to spill your guts. I’ve been in a fist fight with Butch before. Now just keep your mouth shut.” Brick threatens. Blood red eyes almost appearing black.
Ace just smirks at this. “Ah, they finally broke ya huh? I was actually betting on you. Guess I was wrong.” Ace says with slight amusement. Turning on his heel to go back home.
Brick watches him go. Fighting back the thoughts in his head before heading home himself.
Back at Utonium household…
As soon as they’re through the front door, the questioning starts.
“What the hell is going on Blossom? Why did you freeze us?” Buttercup starts. Annoyance in her voice at the whole situation.
“For real, plus you froze us and not the ruffs?” Bubbles says. Finally being able to take off her shoes and socks.
“Can we please not talk about this right now.” Blossom says. Still upset from the whole ordeal. Tears threatening to show.
“No. I think we should talk about this right now.” Buttercup says. Bubbles decides not to chime in. Not wanting to get between the two.
“Please! I-I just can’t!” Blossom says facing them. Tears she’s been holding back finally showing.
Buttercup and Bubbles' eyes widen at this display. Rarely ever seeing Blossom, the fearless leader, cry.
“Blossom! What’s wrong?” Bubbles exclaims. Running up to her sister to comfort her.
“Nothing, can we please just talk about this later?” Blossom asks, pleading with her sisters while wiping her eyes. Heading towards the staircase out of Bubbles reach.
“Fine. We’ll talk about this later.” Buttercup gives in. Not wanting to upset Blossom further.
Blossom doesn’t respond as she makes her way up and into her room. Collapsing on the bed and letting it all out. Feeling utterly stupid for caring as much as she did. For a criminal no less! She should’ve known better.
Before she lets exhaustion consume her. She goes up to her window, making sure it’s locked tight.

Chapter Text
Blossom explained the situation briefly to her sisters about what had happened between her and Brick. Buttercup, of course, was not happy with what she had done for Brick. Bubbles felt sympathy knowing that Blossom was just trying to help someone in need.
Blossom vowed to them that it wouldn’t happen again.
She didn’t tell them the entirety of it. How she would comfort him as best she could those late nights while he was in pain. How she would hold him for as long as he needed her to. The way she would catch Brick looking at her while she cleaned him up. In a way that maybe they could be something more.
Stupid. She thinks bitterly at this.
She honestly didn’t know what she expected from Brick. He wasn’t meant to be good, especially to her.
His brothers though? They showed some compassion for her. The day after they both had texted her to check up on her. Boomer thanked her for her help and apologizing for Brick’s behavior and Butch just seeing if she was alright.
All she knows is that she let her emotions run loose for Brick. Now, having to squash her feelings for him was a hard task to do.
She focused more in school, accepting a full ride scholarship to Townsville University, and having gone to prom with the captain of the football team. Of course, they won prom queen and king. Their photo with their golden crowns plastered on the front page of Townsville’s newspaper. Shortly after, he had asked her to be his girlfriend. He was also accepted into TU so he felt that everything was aligning for the both of them.
Blossom, however, was not exactly over Brick, so she told him that she’ll think about it.
On top of that, Dexter has shown an interest in her as well. Maybe it’s the universe telling her that she needs to forget Brick.
Despite all this, Townsville’s crime rate hit new highs that they haven’t seen since they were children.
Unusual crimes that they’ve never seen before. Not the typical monster or bank robbery from the typical villains in Townsville.
No. Murders. Is what the citizens of Townsville whisper. At first, it was marked as suicide, but further investigation highly suggests otherwise.
Of course, the citizens are scared out of their minds. Never having seen anything like it. The police are on high alert, but the investigations all run into a dead end. Some government officials are victims, and they suspect the targets are those in government positions. That gets thrown out the window when a random citizen gets killed.
The girls try to even take shifts throughout the day to see if they can find anything, but nothing ever comes up.
The girls are so paranoid about the events that they make the Professor install cameras and have the lab locked up tight when he is working and they are not at home.
It’s dead at night when Blossom gets a text waking her up.
Butch: Can you meet us please? I know you probably don’t want to hear from us anymore. We don’t know what to do.
Blossom’s phone flashes bright. The words are a little blurry from sleep. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion.
What happened now? She thinks.
Before she can fully think of a response another text appears.
Butch: It’ll just be Boomer and I, you don’t have to worry about Brick being there.
Blossom rolls over on her back and stares at the ceiling as she thinks. The light of her phone illuminating the room. Should she answer? The last time she helped a Rowdyruff didn’t end so well.
Butch and Boomer didn’t do anything to her, she reasons. They wouldn’t be asking for help if they didn’t need it.
Blossom: When and where?
She sends it without a second thought. He sends her an address for a 24 hour diner that’s not too far from her house and to meet them in 20 minutes.
She gets out of bed to change out of her pajamas and heads to the bathroom to fix her hair and brush her teeth.
Once she’s ready, she heads over to her window, quietly unlocking it and slipping out into the dark. Shutting the window as she floats.
She stares at her reflection for a moment in the window. What the hell am I doing? she thinks. With a sigh, she flies up in the air and makes her way to the diner.
Landing on the sidewalk, she makes her way to the entrance and goes in. A bell ringing above indicating her arrival.
The run down diner has been operating for several years. The look never changed since its doors opened and the wear and tear is evident. It keeps business since it’s one of the few places that’s open 24 hours.
A few people are there either drunk or having a bite after working night shift. In the back Blossom spots Butch and Boomer and makes her way there before the waitress approaches her.
Butch spots her first and gets up from his spot on the booth so she can sit and sits on the same side that Boomer is on.
“Thanks for coming.” Boomer says. Blossom nods. “Of course.” She says. The waitress comes by and drops off some coffee for the three. “Will you be eating?” She asks. Knowing that most people only come in for coffee at this time.
“No, we’re good, thanks. Here.” Butch says. Handing her some money to pay for the coffee and a tip. “We’ll be here awhile. No need to check on us.” He says with a wink.
The waitress happily accepts the money and is off tending to the other tables.
“So what’s going on?” Blossom asks. Dumping creamer into her coffee to sweeten it up.
“Look. Ever since Brick came back he’s been…different.” Butch says. Trying to find the right words. “Different? Different how?” Blossom asks. Mindlessly mixing her coffee with a spoon.
“He snaps and flies off the handle at the most random things. He won’t see reason.” Boomer says. “Yeah. He’s not himself. He’s usually the calm and collected one. Sometimes he acts like he didn’t just punch some holes in the wall and is back to his old self.” Butch adds.
Blossom doesn’t know what to think of this. What could she possibly do for them?
“So he has temper problems now? Doesn’t surprise me.” She says. Almost bitterly. Butch sighs. “Look Pink, I know he was the biggest asshole to you when he came back, but I can feel it. It’s not like him.” He says. Boomer nods.
“What are you saying?” Blossom asks. Taking a sip at her coffee. “What I’m saying is he goes into these rages and his eyes turn nearly black. It’s like he’s…” Butch trails off. “It’s like he’s possessed.” Boomer finishes.
Blossom raises an eyebrow at this. Possessed?
“Okay…and what do you want me to do about it exactly?” She questions. Boomer looks at Butch nervously. Butch sighs and shuts his eyes before he says, “You know those murders that have been happening around Townsville?”
Blossom can feel her heart stop in her chest. Feel the color drain from her face. He can’t mean…
Butch sees the look of panic on Blossom’s face. “I’m not saying it’s him, but we’re not ruling it out either. If it is Brick…it’s not him, not really Pink.”
She doesn’t know how to respond. Doesn’t know what to think. She feels like she’s going to be sick.
“Blossom?” Boomer asks. Snapping her back to reality. “Why do you think he’s involved?” She asks. “We’ve been keeping track of what time he leaves and when he comes back and they match the times of the murders.” Boomer says. Blossom’s head is absolutely reeling.
“Why are you telling me this? You know I can put him behind bars.” She responds, shakily. “Yeah, like a jail cell has ever held us back before. We’re not murderers. ” Butch starts. “Even then, the problem will get worse. If they somehow find a way to contain him, he won’t have a leg to stand on since he’s already painted a criminal. Whatever is controlling him will remain, Pink. More people will get hurt. They can even try to execute him for something he has no control over. Where’s the justice in that?”
Butch’s words ring true to Blossom. There would be no justice in that.
“We can’t keep letting more people get hurt.” Blossom says. Both ruffs nod in agreement.
“We think those letters we found still hold some weight. I think the people who got to Brick are trying to get to us through him.” Boomer says. “Yeah it’s like he’s trying to trick us into going somewhere with him.” Butch adds.
“We can’t let that happen.” She says quickly. “What choice do we have Pink? This will probably be the closest thing we can get to start getting answers.” Butch says.
Panic rises in Blossom. Racking her brain for another possible solution.
“We’ll be careful, Blossom.” Boomer says. She sighs in defeat knowing that they have already made up their mind. “If you go through with this, we need to have a plan. I can’t be the only one who knows on the outside.” Blossom says.
They nod. “We figured as much. We have never been good with making plans, Pink.” Butch says. Knowing that his counterpart would be involved in this.
“We need to get answers before you guys go through with whatever Brick wants.” She says. An idea pops in her mind. “Ace! He has to know something.”
“We tried that route already, remember?” Boomer says. “Yes, but we can try a different way.” Blossom says. Butch and Boomer look at each other and shrug. “You and Brick have always been the masterminds. We’ve trusted you so far.” Butch says.
“Right, I just have to get my hard headed sister to agree.” She says.
Butch stares at her for a moment. “If I’m thinking what you’re thinking, then good fucking luck.” He says.
“Wait, you want me to do what?” Buttercup says, with disbelief. “I just need you to get some information out of Ace. We all know he has a soft spot for you.” Blossom says. Hoping to convince her.
“Okay…but for what? I thought you were dropping this whole Brick thing.” Buttercup says.
Blossom didn’t quite mention the severity of getting this information. She just needs to get her to agree.
“I know, but Butch and Boomer think that he may be in trouble. More so than what we originally thought.” Blossom says. Trying to convince her sister for this one favor.
Buttercup seems to think about it. Weighing her options. “I just don’t see why you care. It sounds like he was a major dick to you. Why not let him solve his own problem?”
Blossom doesn’t want to say the boys suspicions to her, not wanting to set her off. “They think he may be possessed and that’s why he’s acting up. We have to stop him before he gets too out of hand.” Blossom says, giving her a bit more information. “Possessed? Let’s just beat the spirit or whatever it is out of him.” Buttercup says. Blossom rolls her eyes. “Violence isn’t always the answer, Buttercup.” Is her response. “Hey, we don't know that for sure until we’ve tried it.” Buttercup deadpans.
“Are you going to help me or not?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to help you, it’s just that being friendly to Ace? I’d rather let Butch sucker punch me in the face.” She says in disgust.
Blossom nods in understanding, having been on the receiving end of Butch’s punches and Ace’s crude comments. She would pick a punch to the face as well.
“Just think though, you’ll be challenging yourself. Just in being nice. ” She says. Hoping to get that through with the green puff. She has always liked a challenge.
Buttercup rolls her eyes. “If you haven’t noticed. I’m not the nice one. Bubbles would be a better option. Better yet you would be the best option. Miss everything nice.”
“True, but we all know Ace likes you the best.” She says.
Buttercup huffs out. Can’t fight Blossom’s logic on that one. “ Fine, but you owe me one . Does Bubbles know about this?” She asks.
Relief washes over Blossom, finally getting her to agree. “Thank you, and no. Not yet at least. I’ll need to talk to her to get her help as well.” Blossom responds.
“Help with what?” Buttercup asks, absentmindedly. Blossom smiles at this. “To help me make you nice. ”
Buttercup laughs at this. “Oh you two in trying to make me nice. That’s not my main ingredient, don’t forget that.”
“Never.”

Chapter Text
Bubbles was much easier to convince, but now they have a time limit. Butch had texted her saying that they will be leaving in a week.
She shared this piece of information with her sisters, much to Bubbles’ dismay.
“A week? Buttercup we have got to make you nice like yesterday.” Bubbles huffs.
“Hey, I’m not thrilled about this either.” She says. “ Focus. ” Blossom says.
“What if I just promise not to knock his lights out? That’s nice, right?” Buttercup says, exasperated.
“No!” Bubbles and Blossom exclaim. Buttercup rolls her eyes. “So dramatic.”
“You know what, you need a practice run and I know just the person.” Blossom says. Buttercup eyes her suspiciously. “I don’t like the sound of that.”
Blossom calls for a meeting with the two ruffs and she makes them make sure that Brick is contained at home.
They had made sure he was asleep before leaving for this late night meeting. Blossom has a plan formed to go over with them in addition to getting Buttercup to get info from Ace.
Meeting at the abandoned construction site that they have met at before. Trying to keep things private.
“Alright Butch, you just need to do what you do best. Say things to annoy Buttercup, but how Ace would do it.” Blossom says. Explaining his role.
“Annoy Buttercup? Easy.” Butch says, with a mischievous tone. Cracking his knuckles.
Sitting across from her, they look at each other. Butch smirking and Buttercup already annoyed, glaring at him. “We haven’t even started yet, Butterbaby. ” Butch says, imitating Ace. Buttercup glares daggers at him.
“This is going so well already,” Boomer mumbles to himself. Bubbles giggles at this.
Butch continues to annoy Buttercup and Buttercup forces a smile or answers through gritted teeth.
“Oh my god Buttercup. You’re making this a thousand times harder than it needs to be.” Blossom says. “Do you even hear what he’s saying?” Buttercup seethes. Motioning towards Butch who has the biggest smirk on his face.
“Yes, but you’re giving him power by reacting.” Blossom replies. “Whatever. I’m winging it. Because this is stupid.”
Blossom is at her wits end and they don’t have much time before the boys leave. “ Fine . Just promise to be on your best behavior.”
“I promise.” Buttercup says, rolling her eyes.
“Maybe you can knock his lights out after you get answers.” Boomer offers, trying to lighten the mood. “Already planned on it.” Buttercup smirks.
Blossom rolls her eyes. Being the sole leader of both teams at the moment is taxing.
“So you said you have a plan?” Butch asks.
“Yes. It’s simple.” Blossom says. Explaining her plan and how everything will land into place. They also have to be prepared for the unexpected. It is still unclear what exactly they are dealing with. Brick never having mentioned who or what hurt him to the point of needing so much Chemical X.
Butch looks skeptical, but then again he has never been in charge of making plans. Clearly as the last one with Ace didn’t play out the way he wanted it too. “Alright leader girl. I’ll trust ya on this one.”
“Me too.” Boomer agrees. “Great. That settles it. Buttercup will start trying to get answers tomorrow and we will see what we can gather out of Ace.” Blossom states. They all nod in agreement.
They all get ready to depart, but Butch stops Buttercup before she can fly off. “I’ll catch up to you Boomer.” He says and Boomer nods, taking off.
He faces Buttercup again with a serious expression. “Look. I just wanted to say I appreciate what you’re doing. Ace is a creep and I know you would rather be doing something else than dealing with all this.”
Buttercup is taken aback. A Rowdyruff thanking her? Not just any ruff but Butch specifically. She could expect it from Boomer for sure and Brick if the circumstances were right.
“I-you’re welcome. It’s important to Blossom so it’s important to me.” Buttercup says. Butch nods in understanding. “So, really. How do you plan on dealing with Ace?” Butch asks. Leaning against the wall.
She shrugs. “Never been the planning type. Probably have to make him think I want him or some stupid shit like that.” She says with a hint of disgust.
Butch laughs and Buttercup punches him in the shoulder. “Well I’ll definitely owe you one after all this.”
“Just promise to bail me out of jail just in case I end up strangling Ace.” Buttercup says with a laugh. “I’ll probably end up in jail before you if he tries something stupid.” Butch says.
Buttercup’s heart skips a beat. Something which she can’t explain. “Well I’ll promise to bail you out if you bail me out.” She says with a small smile on her lips.
“Alright deal.” He says holding his pinky out. “Really? A pinky promise?” Buttercup laughs.
“Yup. C’mon don’t leave me hanging.” He says with a laugh, shaking his pinky.
Her smile doesn’t falter as she hooks her pinky with his. Sealing their little promise. “Y’know Snails, I guess I can tolerate you.” She says, letting their pinkies go. “Right back at ya, Spice.”
Why had she agreed to this?
She knew Ace hung out at this club. Why? Because she would sometimes sneak out and go to said club.
They weren’t strict at all, letting 18 year olds in and letting them drink. Blossom was less than pleased finding this bit of information out. Especially since Buttercup admitted to going there a time or two.
Definitely more than that, but she of course pointed out that Blossom couldn’t be mad at her. Since she’s helping her out here.
Ace liked this club because of the younger girls. They were of age and had less life experience. They were naive.
When Buttercup was there she would take up all his attention against her will or she would stop whatever it was Ace was trying to do.
So when she’s sitting at the bar with a drink and a very sexy dress. She felt comfortable having dressed like this before, but feeling uneasy since she’s trying to attract Ace.
She wasn’t even sure if he was gonna show up. She has already had to shoo some guys off. Some time passes and he does arrive and of course his eyes find her.
She can feel his eyes scanning her up and down and now he’s making his way towards her. Taking the empty seat next to her.
“Butterbabe! Looking as hot as ever. Now remind me again why you don’t have a man?” Ace says. Still checking her out. “Because if you were mine I wouldn’t let you out of my sight.”
Buttercup has to grit her teeth to prevent her from spewing some insults to this pea brain.
“Buttercup, don’t.” Blossom says through the small earpiece. Being at a nearby spot with the boys and Bubbles. “I’m not drunk enough for this.” She says ordering another drink. Ace smirks and orders something for himself.
Buttercup learned a long time ago that it takes a lot to get her drunk. An insane amount of alcohol because of her powers keeping her sharp and focused.
Naturally, she keeps ordering and so does Ace. Trying to keep up with her. He would flirt and she would encourage it so he would keep on drinking. So when he is drunk, but still able to comprehend words and sentences she knew she had him right where she wanted him.
She grabs his hand and drags him to the dance floor. “I knew you wanted meeee!” He says, dragging out his words. She doesn’t respond, instead she starts dancing and he drunkenly starts as well.
His hands are on her and she has to remain calm and unbothered by it.
When she notices that he has completely loosened up after a few songs up she starts. “I need a break, let's go sit down.” She yells over the music. Dragging him once more towards an empty table.
He sits down nearly falling over, but is able to find his balance on the chair. She sits across from him giving him what she hopes is a sexy smile.
In his drunken state he doesn’t seem to notice the difference as he gives her a smirk. “So what was going on the other day with the Rowdyruff Boys? Crazy stuff, huh?” She says.
He nods in agreement. “Yeahhh Brick is really fuckeddd nowww.” He drawls out.
Blossom tenses. Is she finally going to get answers? She hopes so. She looks over at Butch and Boomer as they hold their breath. Waiting for the conversation to continue. Bubbles looks scared, not knowing what he’s gonna say next.
“Why’s that?” Buttercup asks. Grabbing his hand on the table. Hoping to make this believable.
He shrugs. Looking at their hands. “Got the shiiit end of the dealll.” He laughs. “I thouggght he wasss the smart one. Supposed to take afterrr pink puffff. Apparently looking out for herr.”
All eyes are on Blossom as Ace muttered the words out. She feels her heart pounding in her chest.
“Does she have something to do with this deal?” Buttercup continues. All he can do is nod.
Buttercup can feel like she’s losing his attention as his eyes wander at girls walking by. So she leans in closer, having him focus on her again.
“Do you know who he is dealing with?” She asks. Whispering in his ear. Hoping to get back on track.
No response is given. Instead, Ace smashes his mouth on hers and Buttercup gives a surprised, “Hmph!” Groping her, too drunk to care.
“What the fuck is happening?” Butch says. Having only audio and no video footage to show. “I don’t know!” Blossom exclaims.
Butch is out the door before anyone can say anything. The rest of them quickly follow.
Butch is there in a flash. Walking into the club, spotting them quickly.
Buttercup had already slapped Ace. Yelling at him. Butch decides that that’s not enough for whatever he did, still not knowing what happened.
Butch punches Ace square in the face. Sunglasses flying off. Boomer and the other puffs arrive as Ace looks up from the punch.
They’re greeted with nearly black eyes. Overtaking the usual green.
Butch and Boomer recognize this immediately. Having seen the look in Brick.
Butch really set Ace off as he attacks him. A full on rage taking over Ace.
Butch was caught off guard as he gets taken down to the ground. Club security comes running and Blossom demands Bubbles to talk to them as she’s trying to get Ace off from Butch with the help of Buttercup and Boomer.
“It’s okay! We got it!” Bubbles says to the staff. Who immediately recognizes her and backs off a bit.
Boomer has to hold Ace down. Having finally gotten him off Butch.
Acting like a wild animal as his eyes go darker. Buttercup has had enough of it and punches him square in the face where Butch had and knocks him out.
The club goers cheer along with the staff and Butch and Boomer start dragging Ace out of there. Buttercup and Bubbles follow.
Blossom goes up to the staff who are thanking her for dealing with the problem. She nods and gives her practiced smile. “It was no problem at all! But please, if we can keep this quiet that would be great.” She says.
A short man comes up appearing to be the owner of the club. “Oh yes. Don’t worry about that. Don’t want to get a bad reputation at my club!” He exclaims.
Blossom has to bite her tongue from saying anything about allowing 18 year olds in and serving them. It’s not worth it at the moment.
Instead she nods and leaves. Following the blue and green streaks.
She finds them at the abandoned construction site. Seems to be their place of meeting. “What do we do, what do we do, what do we do?!” Boomer exclaims. Looking at an unconscious Ace.
Buttercup scoffs at this. “I thought you guys were criminals and you’re acting like it’s your first day on the job.”
Butch laughs. “Criminals perhaps, but we don’t kidnap people.”
“Yeah! Like that one time you guys did to me!” Boomer exclaims. The three girls laugh. Thinking about how Bubbles had to pretend to be Boomer. Boomer isn’t amused by their laughter. Butch sighs. “Calm down, Boomer.”
Bubbles watches Boomer pacing back and forth. “It’s okay! Blossom surely has a plan.” She says and all eyes are on the red head.
She sighs. “I think it’s too risky to try to wake him up to get more answers. He’s out cold. I think we need to turn him in and he’ll be put behind bars for a while.” Nobody questions it.
“Alright. Up you go.” Butch says. Throwing Ace over his shoulder. They all fly out and drop him off at the police station. The girls go in with Ace while Butch and Boomer wait outside. All Blossom says to them is that he caused a disturbance.
They join the boys back outside in an alley where hopefully no one will see them.
“Alright. All we gotta do now is start preparing for when you guys leave.” Blossom says. “Let us know if Brick gives any more details.” She directs the boys.
“You got it.” Boomer says.
“Alright we’ll be in touch. Let’s go girls.” Blossom says. They fly off leaving the ruffs behind.
“So, how do you think this whole thing will play out?” Boomer asks Butch as they watch the colored streaks fade into nothing. “I don’t know Boom, but I'm hoping we get to the bottom of this shit.”
Notes:
Here it is! I felt like adding some greens this chapter hehe. Lmk what you think!
Chapter Text
“Butch!” Brick shouts from the front door. Boomer by his side. “I’m going!” Butch shouts back from his bedroom. Placing the microscopic earpiece in his ear. Boomer also having one as well.
It’s a miracle that they didn’t lose them thanks to the container they were in. He hears the activation sound and knows that it has setup successfully.
“Can you hear me?” Blossom asks. “Yup.” Butch says.
He grabs his bag and meets them at the door. He made sure to put the Chemical X that Blossom had given them wrapped up between his clothes to prevent it from clinking together. Boomer having done the same thing.
“About time.” Brick mutters, walking out the door. Butch rolls his eyes and keeps his mouth shut.
“So are you finally going to tell us where we’re going?” Boomer asks, following Brick out. Butch hot on his heels.
“You’ll see.” Brick responds. Opening the car door. “What? We’re driving?” Butch asks in disbelief. Knowing they’ll get there way faster if they just fly.
“More discreet this way.” Is all Brick offers in response, getting in the driver's seat and starting the car.
“Shotgun!” Boomer shouts. Zipping in a blue light to the passenger side. Throwing his bag in the back seat. Butch stands there not moving glaring at both of them.
Brick rolls down his window and stares at Butch. “Just get in the car.” Brick says in annoyance.
“Fine.” Butch relents. Throwing the door open and getting in. Boomer giving him an amused look from the front seat.
“You better not put your stupid music on.” Butch says. Throwing his bag over Boomer’s.
“Too late!” Boomer says, as he starts his playlist as Brick is backing out of the driveway. Butch groans. This is gonna be a long drive.
“Ohh! I love this song!” Bubbles says. “Bubbles!” Blossom and Buttercup scold. “Oops, sorry!”
A very long drive indeed as Boomer turns up the music. Much to Butch’s annoyance.
“We’ll be on mute from now on. We’ll talk to you guys if we need to.” Blossom says.
Blossom watches the two flashing dots on the radar heading north. She thanks her lucky stars that it’s Friday night that Brick decided to leave. Having done her homework and helping both her sisters get caught up so they can focus.
“Where do you think they’re going?” Buttercup asks. Looking at the radar as well. “I’m not sure. I don’t think they’ll be staying in Townsville though.” Blossom responds. Watching as they get closer to leaving the city.
Bubbles emerges from the lab where the Professor is, holding a large amount of Chemical X. Blossom raises an eyebrow. “How did you convince him to give you that much?”
“I told him that we got grouped together to do a science experiment at school showcasing our greatest strength!” She replied happily.
“…and he bought that?” Buttercup asks in disbelief. “That doesn’t even make sense Bubbles.” Blossom says.
“I know, he questioned me. I told him to ask you about it since you’re the brains.” Bubbles replies. “Gee. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome! He said not to replicate ourselves!” Bubbles exclaims. Ignoring the sarcastic tone.
Hours pass by as Blossom keeps an eye on the radar. The girls find something to occupy them in the meantime.
“Where are we?” Boomer’s voice cracked through the speaker. Music being turned down.
“We’ll be staying here tonight.” Brick answers. The sound of the car being turned off following after.
“Looks like a dump.” Butch says. She can hear them getting out of the car and grabbing their stuff. The sound of creaky wooden stairs is made and a door opens and closes.
“I was right, it is a dump.”
“Sleep outside for all I care.” Brick says.
Blossom can hear Butch mumble something under his breath. “What was that?” Brick asks. “Nothing.”
“I’m starving!” Boomer exclaims. More footsteps can be heard and the sound of a fridge door opening. “There’s nothing in here.” He complains.
“Check the freezer. There should be frozen stuff from the last time I was here.” Brick says. “Uh-huh. When was the last time you were here?” Butch asks. She can hear Brick sigh. “Does it matter?”
“I think it does. You come and go as you please and we never know where you’re at. Can’t even bother to tell us what we’re doing here.”
Blossom bites her lip unmuting the mic. “Butch.” she warns. Trying to intervene from miles away, but Butch being Buttercup’s counterpart she knows he won’t listen.
“You know. I’ve about had it with your shit Butch. You don’t trust me or something?” Brick responds coldly.
“Don’t answer that Butch. Butch! Don’t answer!” Blossom panics through the mic. Alerting her sisters who join her once again. “What’s the idiot doing now?” Buttercup asks.
Butch sighs. “I didn’t say that. You’ve just been acting strange.” He says.
Blossom lets out a sigh of relief. She would have rather him stay quiet, but at least he didn’t say anything too out of pocket.
A dark laugh erupts from Brick. The girls look at each other questioningly. “Enlighten me, Butch. How have I been acting strange?”
Blossom doesn’t like the tone at all.
Butch scoffs. “As if you don’t know. Being all secretive and shit and going behind our backs doing god knows what. Acting out and shit.”
“I think you’re forgetting that we were made to be evil.” Brick says. “Yeah, we were also created to destroy the Powerpuff Girls, but we gave that up a long time ago.” Butch replies.
“The Powerpuff Girls are beneath me, beneath us. I’m just raising the stakes higher.” Brick says. Blossom bites her lip. What could he possibly mean by that?
“See? There you go being all cryptic and shit. What the hell is going on?” Butch’s voice raises in anger. “Butch, calm down.” Boomer says. Taking the words right out of Blossom’s mouth.
“You’ll find out when you need to. End of story.” Brick says. Footsteps can be heard and a door slamming shut. “Can you stop pissing him off? He’s gonna tear your throat out if you keep it up.” Boomer says.
“Shut up, Boomer.”
“Asshole.” Boomer mutters.
“Can you at least keep calm until tomorrow?” Blossom asks. Slightly irritated. Butch grunts in response.
“C’mon Snails, remember the goal.” Buttercup says. Hoping to calm her counterpart. “Yeah, fine whatever. What’s there to eat?”
The sound of a freezer door opening and rummaging is heard through the speakers.
“Chicken tenders, fries, and…ew what is that?” Boomer says. “What is what?” Butch asks. “Boomer?” Blossom asks.
“Oh god, is that blood?” Boomer says in horror and slight disgust.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Butch asks. Footsteps are heard as he approaches Boomer. Silence follows. “What is it?” Bubbles asks. Face pale. More silence. “This isn’t funny, what is it?” Buttercup adds.
“Guys?” Blossom asks after receiving no response from the boys. Cursing herself for not adding cameras, but that would’ve been too risky. More rummaging is heard. “Jesus Christ.” Butch mumbles. “I’m gonna be sick.” Boomer says.
“Answer us assholes!” Buttercup shouts. “Calm down. There’s three bags of blood in the freezer.” Butch finally responds. “Why would there be blood?” Blossom asks.
“I don’t know, but I think we’ll find out soon enough.” He says.
“I’ve lost my appetite.” Boomer says. The sound of freezer door shutting right after.
“Okay guys, just take it easy. We’ll fly over tomorrow and we will see what happens. Get some rest and be sure to carry Chemical X with you.” Blossom instructs.
The two Ruffs agree to do so before Blossom shuts off the mic again.
“Boomer was really freaked out!” Bubbles exclaims. Clutching Octi to her chest. Wide eyed expression on her face.
Blossom nods in agreement. Not really sure what to say. What the hell has Brick gotten himself into? Her mind is working overtime in thinking.
“I’m going to bed. All this crap is giving me a headache.” Buttercup says. Standing up and stretching.
“Yes, good idea. We will need to get up earlier than the boys to catch up to them.” Blossom says. Also standing up from her spot. She grabs the speaker to take with her. Both of them make their way to the stairs and notice that Bubbles isn’t following.
“Aren’t you coming up Bubbles?” Blossom asks. Still clutching Octi, she nods her head. “I will in a bit.”
Blossom looks at her in understanding. “Don’t stay up too late, okay?”
“I won’t.” Bubbles promises.
“Alright, goodnight.” Blossom says. Both her and Buttercup leave Bubbles by herself.
Bubbles spaces out, mind racing. They don’t know what they’re up against and it frightens her. It’s also scary to think that Boomer and Butch could find themselves in the same mess as Brick.
She bites her lip in worry. How could she possibly sleep? Boomer sounded scared and that worries her.
Several more moments of fretting over the situation she decided that she needed to go to bed. Her worrying right now won’t help her tomorrow.
Once she’s ready for bed, she slips in under the covers and her phone is the only light illuminating her bedroom.
She opens up her texts and clicks on Boomer’s name starting a new text thread.
Are you okay?
She types out. Her thumb is hovering over the send button.
It’s just a question. She reasons. Without another thought she sends it. She didn’t need to wait long for a response.
Yeah. I was just freaked out, that's all. I’m all good now!
She smiles at the message. She could practically hear him saying this.
Good. I’m happy to hear that. Get some rest. It’s gonna be a long day tomorrow.
She sends back.
You too. I’ll see you tomorrow:)
Bubbles shuts her phone off and smiles at the ceiling. Feeling a little bit better, she’s able to shut her eyes and doze off.

Chapter Text
Blossom can feel her heart pounding in her chest as she flies along with her sisters. Brick had woken his brothers up bright and early to do whatever it is they’re supposed to do.
She herself had barely slept. Her overthinking mind not letting her sleep as much as she’d like.
Thankfully, she didn’t struggle too badly to get her sisters up and going. Specifically, Buttercup as she usually doesn’t want to get up for school. The three of them dressed in suits that the Professor made for them a while back. Really, a prototype that they’ve tested a few times that moves fluidly with them and provides some extra protection from attacks. Bubbles worked on the design so they would at least be cute.
They arrived near the house that the boys were staying at. Keeping a safe distance on some rocky terrain where they can observe from. They got there much quicker than the boys did as they opted to fly there. Butch was right, the house did look like a dump. It stands alone in the middle of nowhere. The exterior is heavily spray painted and there is no grass in sight.
Blossom doesn’t like the feeling she gets from the house. The energy is off and she had never been a big believer of that in the first place.
“How does Brick even know about this house?” Buttercup asks aloud. Blossom shrugs. “Whoever is behind all this probably owns it or just uses it. Looks to be in really bad shape.” She responds. “I can’t imagine what the inside looks like!” Bubbles chimes in.
“Hopefully better than the outside.” Buttercup mumbles.
Shuffling is heard from the speaker. From where the girls stand they can see the front door opening. They watch as the boys step out of the house and make their way down the stairs to the car.
So far, Butch and Boomer haven’t been able to get any info from Brick on where they are going or why they are here in the first place. This unnerves Blossom as she is going in this blind. Each of the girls carry a small backpack that contains Chemical X that Bubbles was able to get from the Professor. She felt confident about having as much as they do just in case anything happens to one of them or the one of the boys. Also having packaged it carefully so the vials won’t shatter.
The boys have been quiet for the most part. Really, just Butch deciding to keep his mouth shut before he says something to royally piss Brick off.
Once they’re in the car, they start speeding off to the next destination.
“Hey guys, anyway you can get how long of a drive this is out of him?” Blossom asks through the speaker.
“Hey bro, how long is the drive?” Boomer asks. “About an hour and a half.” Brick responds. Butch groans. “I hate being in a car.”
“Thanks guys.” Blossom says. She decides that that’ll be plenty of time to investigate the house. She scans the house with another device to detect any spyware and it comes back clean.
The girls cautiously step inside, careful not to mess anything up. First thing she does is that she heads to the freezer. “Ew. What are you doing?” Buttercup asks. Watching her older sister take out a bag of blood that was discovered last night. “Just inspecting.” Blossom responds. Bubbles stays a good distance away. Opting to just observe.
Inspecting one of the bags she flips it the other side and sees some light red liquid that had separated from the blood. Between that and the blood is a black liquid. It’s not much, but it’s definitely noticeable against the dark red color.
“See that?” She asks. Moving the bag closer to Buttercup to take a closer look.
“What is that?” Buttercup asks. Studying the frozen liquid. Bubbles peers over Buttercup’s shoulder so she can also see.
“I’m not sure.” She says. Blossom thinks about it. “Well, if we were to say this is Brick’s blood then this would be the X.” Blossom says pointing at the black liquid. Which runs through all of them. “Okay…then what’s that?” Buttercup questions, pointing at the lighter red.
Blossom thinks for a moment inspecting the bag when it hits her. She pales at the thought. “Blossom?” Bubbles asks. Noticing the color change on her sister’s face.
“I think it’s Antidote X.” She says. This stuns her sisters into silence. Perplexed at the thought, she puts the first bag back and pulls out another. This one has a noticeable amount more of Antidote X than the one she originally pulled.
The third has even more than the second. The idea makes her sick to her stomach.
“Look! That one has a date!” Bubbles exclaims pointing at the bag in Blossom’s hands. Blossom scans over the date and if memory serves her right, that is the day that Brick came looking for her before he went missing.
She was gonna be sick.
“This is his blood.” She whispers. “How do you know?” Buttercup asks. “This is the last time he came looking for my help and he was in terrible shape.” Blossom says.
She felt even more guilty now knowing the extent of Brick’s pain. Especially when he would come looking for her. She knows from experience that injecting Chemical X after Antidote X was extremely painful. He never did express the full pain he was feeling in her presence.
“Damn. That’s a lot of AX.” Buttercup says. Blossom shoves the bag back in the freezer and closes the door shut. No longer wanting to look at the bags. Still wondering why they would be there.
“I thought you said he would fly to your window. If he was injected with that much wouldn’t he be powerless?” Buttercup adds. Blossom considers this new thought. “Well, they clearly retracted it from his system. But why would they go through that much trouble?” Blossom says, thinking aloud.
“I don’t know but this is creeping me out.” Buttercup says, crossing her arms. Bubbles nods in agreement. Blossom sighs. “I know, but we have to help. We need to get to the bottom of this or all the boys will be pawns.”
Her sisters nod in agreement. Blossom decides to keep looking around the house to see if they find anything else, but nothing stands out.
“There’s a basement!” Bubbles shouts from where she stands. Blossom and Buttercup make their way over. Bubbles stands in front of the door patiently looking at her sisters. “Well? Aren’t you going in?” Buttercup says.
“What? No! You go in!” Bubbles says in shock. “I would if you moved!”
“Alright alright. Enough of that. Excuse me Bubbles.” Blossom says. Making both her sisters stop their bickering. Bubbles side steps out of the way as Blossom makes her way down the steps.
“Scaredy cat.” Buttercup mumbles to Bubbles as she follows Blossom. “Am not!” Bubbles says watching them walk down the steps. “Uh huh. Then why are you still up there?” Buttercup says as she takes careful steps. The staircase feeling old and unstable under her feet. Honestly she should’ve just floated.
“Because it’s dark!” Bubbles responds. “I know. I know. The light isn’t working.” Blossom says as she reaches the bottom of the steps. Hoping to get them to stop.
Pink energy flows to one of her hands that she uses as a light to take a look around. Buttercup copying her with green energy. With the combined light, a better view of the basement is revealed.
Old furniture covered in a thick layer of dust is what greets them. If Blossom didn’t know any better, she would have guessed that no one has stepped foot in here for years. But of course, she has an eye for detail when she sees a filing cabinet lacking a bit of dust compared to the other items kept away here.
She walks up to it, it seems to be old and worn, but it seems to be the newest piece in the basement. Pulling the first drawer she finds that it isn’t locked and finds newspaper clippings. Recent ones at that too from the murders going on in Townsville. Every single one so far.
She looks back at her sisters who are too preoccupied with bickering about how Bubbles won’t join them and Buttercup taking a look around herself.
Turning back to the filing cabinet, she doesn’t find much else in the first drawer but the few clippings. Shutting that drawer and pulling out the second, however, is a much different story. This one is filled to the brim with folders labeled with years. She pulls the most recent one out and it has newspaper clippings regarding the Rowdyruff Boys causing trouble. Each one has a highlighted sentence stating that the RRB almost defeated the PPG.
Even Blossom has to admit that the boys are very much the most difficult villains to defeat since they are almost equals. The boys possess more strength and power, but the girls are always one step ahead and outsmarting them.
Flipping through the folder there’s photos of the boys just out and about town being normal and ones where they are causing trouble in town.
Some of the pictures have her and her sisters fighting them. “What did you find?” Buttercup asks looking at the folders that Blossom is holding.
Before she could answer, Bubbles pipes up from the top of the stairs. “The boys said they’ll be getting there in 20 minutes!”
“We have to go.” Blossom says to her sisters. Making sure she put things back the way she found them before shutting the drawer.
Making their way back to the front door, the girls step outside and down the steps preparing to take off. Buttercup and Bubbles fly off. Blossom takes one last look at the house before she follows. Mentally preparing for what’s to come.

Chapter Text
“Is this the part where we get murdered? Because personally, I wouldn’t like to go through that again.” Butch says. Taking in his surroundings as he steps out of the car along with his brothers.
“Yeah Brick. What the fuck is this?” Boomer says in agreement with Butch. Brick rolls his eyes. “We haven’t even stepped in yet and you two are already shitting your pants.”
“Um, yeah. Look at it!” Boomer exclaims, waving his hands in the direction of the building. Although not a building at all, more of an underground bunker.
The bunker in question, much like the house they stayed in, is in the middle of nowhere. This bunker though is in much better condition, but an eerie feeling radiates from it. Rather small looking but intimidating all the same.
“Ugh. Whatever, let's get this over with.” Butch mutters. Making his way towards the entrance with Brick and Boomer following.
They enter the bunker with ease and begin their descent down. Pipes and cement is the only thing they really see. The lighting is terrible, but with super vision it’s no problem for them.
“What is this place, Brick?” Boomer asks. Taking in his surroundings. “It’s kind of where I’ve been running off to these past few months.” Brick replies. Leading them down the stairs and through the hallways. Butch and Boomer perk up at the mention of getting this tiny bit of information from their older brother.
“Oh, so is this the place you keep getting your ass whooped?” Butch says. Brick stops in his tracks almost making Boomer and Butch crash into him.
He turns his head to look back at them. “I don’t know what Blossom has been telling you two, but she’s overreacting.” Brick states in a cold tone before he continues walking. “Uh-huh. Because punctured lungs and internal bleeding is ‘overreacting.’ Got it.” Butch says with sarcasm.
Boomer elbows him in the gut as Brick sighs and stops again. Facing his brothers. “I never meant for you two to know about any of that.” He genuinely says. His eyes are their usual tone of red and not black like when he’s pissed off.
“You could’ve told us. We could’ve helped. Blossom would’ve helped you!” Boomer says. Desperately trying to understand the red ruff. A moment of silence passes as Brick looks at his brothers before he quietly says, “I know.” Facing away from them once more he continues walking and Butch and Boomer know that this conversation has ended.
Blossom frowns as she listens to the conversation between the ruffs. Brick knows he could’ve asked for help and he still didn’t. She offered several times and he shut her down each and every time.
Maybe she shouldn’t be helping him at all. He has made it very clear that he doesn’t want her help. No, that wouldn’t be right. She thinks. Plus Butch and Boomer asked for her help. She wasn’t about to turn her back on them.
She shakes these thoughts out of her head as she lands in front of the bunker where her sisters were waiting for her. “Looks creepy.” Buttercup says, taking in her surroundings. Bubbles nods in agreement.
Blossom made a push to the door and it easily opened. “Hm. Not locked or anything.” She says. “Well we are in the middle of nowhere. Who would be trying to come in unless you knew this was here.” Bubbles says. Blossom nods in agreement. “Right. We just need to be careful.”
The trio make their way in the bunker, seeing the same thing the boys had when they entered. They too start making their descent down.
A couple of minutes pass and neither group speaks. Passing by several doors and continuing their descent down.
The boys eventually make it to the bottom into a clear open area. The girls manage to find a hiding spot.
“What is this?” Boomer asks. Looking around the empty room. He notices some dents in the walls and wonders how they got there.
“Boys, glad you could make it!” A voice booms out. Red and pink smoke circles around and Him appears. “Him?” Boomer and Butch question. Boomer steps behind Brick to hide himself. Butch rolls his eyes.
The girl's eyes widen. Him’s back?
“Well of course my dear sons! You didn’t think I abandoned you? Did you?” He asks.
“Uh, yeah. We did, actually.” Butch deadpans. Boomer silently wishes that Butch would shut up. He’d rather not be sent to Him’s underworld again.
“That’s unfortunate. You three are one of my greatest achievements in life.” Him says getting teary eyed looking at his three sons who are grown up.
Brick rolls his eyes. “Can we get on with it?”
“Get on with what?” Butch asks. “Patience my boys. Patience.”
“Ruffs! Glad to see you all again!” A new voice says. Revealing Ace coming in from another doorway. Butch resists the urge to groan. “Um, hi Ace.” Boomer says, awkwardly. The last two run ins with Ace weren’t exactly pleasant. Butch and Boomer both wonder if Ace even recalls the last one.
“So glad you could make it Ace.” Him starts, “I have some wonderful plans for us, but first I must ask you Butch and Boomer, if I have your loyalty?”
The girls eyes widen as Butch and Boomer look over to Brick for some help. He offers none. Honestly, they both know better than to question Him at this point and it is clear that Brick has promised his loyalty. “Yes,” Boomer says with uncertainty. Him nods and looks over to Butch waiting for his response. Butch nods and simply says, “Yes.”
Him nods once more, but gives them a sad look. “Unfortunately, I don’t believe you. You will have to prove it to me.”
“Prove it to you? How exactly are we supposed to do that?” Butch questions, his tone laced with annoyance. The girls hold their breath as they wait for Him’s response. “Like this,” Him says, waving a claw around.
Before anyone can react Grubber and Snake surprise the boys from behind and inject Butch and Boomer with Antidote X. Butch lets out a hiss from the AX running through his system, like hot fire through his veins. Boomer lets out a groan of discomfort as he falls to his knees.
Bubbles lets out a quiet gasp and covers her mouth from being heard. Shocked at what is happening. Blossom has a similar reaction but has to hold Buttercup back from trying to interfere with what is happening before them.
Brick sends a glare towards Him. “You said that you weren’t going to do that to them.” He says with anger. “Ah, ah Brick, I said they wouldn’t endure everything that you have. This is on a much smaller scale than what you have been through.” Him responds. Brick glares, smoke coming out of his nose and mouth. Flames that are begging to be released licking up his throat.
Butch and Boomer have half the mind to actually use the Chemical X that they have, but think better of it in their cloudy state. Butch stumbles a bit and leans on Brick for support. “Is that all you got?” Butch says through clenched teeth.
Buttercup stiffens at hearing her counterpart. He can’t stay silent to save his life.
Him lands in front of them. “Ah my dear boy. You know I could do much worse.”
All Butch could do was snarl and Boomer groan on the ground. Brick helps Butch keep his balance while stealing a worried glance at Boomer.
“Now for the next part,” Him says. Casting a thick pink cloud throughout the room. The girls squint trying to see what was happening. The smoke burning their eyes. Then, out of nowhere, the three girls get pushed on the ground and can feel something falling over them.
They brace for impact on the loud crash, but it doesn’t come. “Girls!” Blossom says. Reaching out to feel for them. Feeling a foot and someone’s hair in her hands.
Him’s evil laugh erupts as the smoke clears. The girls being able to see again The first thing they see is a shiny cage that fell over them. Big Billy standing behind it, being the one to topple the girls over. Lil Arturo up above being the one to capture them.
Butch and Boomer are gone and all that remains is Brick, Him, and the Ganggreen Gang.
“Ah girls! Long time no see!” Him exclaims.
“What do you want, Him?” Buttercup seethes. Gripping on to the bars of the cage. No amount of force she puts in is bending the trap.
“Oh, nothing. Just want to see you girls gone. Same old same old.” Him starts, checking out his claw. Saying it like it is the most normal thing in the world. “My my, though. My two boys really showed up for me in helping trap you. Yes, they are worthy indeed.” Him says with stars in his eyes.
Bubbles mouth falls open in shock as Buttercup seethes in her spot. Blossom stiffens in place. Played again by a Rowdyruff Boy? Two of them this time?
Him smirks at the silence. “Good. You three brats never shut up. Now I really got you at a loss for words.”
“Let us go Him. you won’t get away with this.” Blossom says. Her mind catching up to the severity of this situation. “Hmmm…no.” Him says. An evil smile plastering his face. “I will be nice though. In giving you front row seats to the show!” He exclaims. Turning on his heel and leaving. The Gang follows closely behind. Brick watches them go and then directs his eyes on the girls. Blossom looks at him with a neutral expression even though on the inside she is reeling.
Brick walks up to the cage and stands directly in front of Blossom. “I told you to stay out of it.” he says. His tone is even and calm. His eyes are their usual shade of red. No anger hidden in his words.
“Let us go, Brick.” Blossom says. Her last futile attempt at getting herself and her sisters out of here.
A flash of guilt shows on Brick’s face, but it’s gone so fast that Blossom thinks she imagined it. No, it was definitely there. Brick says nothing, and in a flash of red he’s gone.

Chapter Text
Boomer wakes up in a semi-conscious state, feeling the cold hard ground beneath him.
Where am I?
His eyelids feel like lead over his eyes as he groggily opens them. He’s greeted by a dark cement room. Steadily breathing in and out, begging his head to stop spinning. He looks around to see that he’s alone.
“Butch.” he breathes out. Where’s Butch?
The girls! Where are the girls? His mind races. What about Brick?
These questions ricochet in his head and it doesn’t help the incoming headache. Boomer wills himself to sit up. The room spins slightly at his sudden movement.
He tries to summon lightning with his hands, but all he can manage is some crackles of energy. Feeling in his pockets for some of the vials of Chemical X, and thankfully they are still intact. He pulls one out and takes a small swig. It tastes terrible on his tongue, but with no needles, this is the next effective way to take it.
He feels better already as he puts the cap back on. Wanting to preserve as much as possible. Boomer tries to summon energy once more. The electricity buzzing in his hands is much stronger than before, but not at its full potential.
This will do for now. Boomer thinks to himself.
In that moment, the door slides open and a barely conscious Butch falls in. “Butch!” Boomer exclaims. Running over to him. Boomer turns Butch to lay flat on his back, he notices how the green ruff’s chest rises and falls at a fast pace.
“Butch, calm down!” Boomer says. Placing his hand on his chest. He can feel how erratic Butch’s heart is. Can hear the blood pumping extra hard through his system.
“Shit,” Boomer mumbles. He frantically grabs the vial from his pocket and pours it into Buch’s mouth. A gagging fit ensues and Boomer covers Butch’s mouth to prevent the X from coming up.
“Breathe Butch!” Boomer shouts. Looking into Butch’s frantic eyes. He starts a breathing exercise for Butch to follow, and thankfully he does. Breathing in and out at a steady pace.
Boomer can feel Butch’s heart rate come down, and allows himself to relax slightly.
He looks Butch over. Tattered clothes and blood stains all over his body. Drenched in sweat. Butch now looks relatively peaceful. Half-lidded eyes as his breathing continues to come down to an acceptable rate.
This lasts for only a moment until Butch shoots straight up in a sitting position. Gripping onto Boomer’s shirt, a crazy look in his eye.
“Boomer! Whatever happens, you have to keep running!” Butch exclaims. “What? What are you talking about?” Boomer asks in a rush. Never having seen Butch in this state.
“You’re the fastest out of the three of us! No matter what you think you hear or what you think you see, you have to keep running!” Butch says, gripping onto Boomer’s shoulders. Shaking his shoulders slightly to make sure he understands.
Boomer nods. He understands the words coming out of Butch’s mouth, but at the same time he doesn’t. Keep running?
“Just keep running, Boomer!” Butch says. All Boomer can do is nod. A numbing feeling taking over his senses. He feels like the room is slipping away. Feels himself falling backwards. Once gray walls fading away to white. Frantic green eyes turning into little dots of light until they too fade away into nothing.
Boomer feels like he’s floating. Or falling? He’s not sure at this point. His ears ring loudly. Butch’s desperate voice breaking through. “Keep running!”
Keep running from what? Is what Boomer desperately wants to ask, but no words come to his mouth. Butch’s words keep spinning around him and only stop when his eyes fall shut.
When his eyes open again, he is looking up at the sky. Grey in color, but something seems off. This doesn’t feel real.
Sitting up once more, Boomer takes in his surroundings.
Where am I? A moment passes. I've been here before.
It’s clear to him that he’s in his Townsville after the initial fog of his mind drifts away. The image becomes clear. The usually busy streets are free from any citizens. It’s eerily quiet. Too quiet.
This unnerves the blue ruff as he stands up. Before he can take a step, a building behind him explodes and a loud shriek comes through. The sound rings in his ears as he turns around quickly, he is met by a monster he has never seen before.
What the hell is that?
It’s unlike any of the monsters that destroy Townsville. No, this one is in a class of its own.
Another cry erupts from the creature as it charges straight for Boomer.
“Shit!” he yells out. Turning around quickly and sprinting off.
Boomer can feel Chemical X running through his veins, but not at its usual capacity. His blue streak that follows him is not as bold as usual.
Patting his pockets for the vials of X, he finds nothing. “Fuck!”
He is just going to have to make do with the X in his system. He hopes he took enough to help speed him along to his full potential of his powers. Flying is out of the question.
He can feel the monster hot on his tail. Destroying anything and everything in its path.
Keep running! Butch’s voice rings out. It’s like a mantra in Boomer’s head as he speeds off. Feet hitting the ground hard and never missing a beat.
Boomer zig zags his way through the empty streets of Townsville in a desperate attempt to get this monster away from him. It’s able to keep up with Boomer though and this frustrates him to no end.
Finally, he feels a little boost from the X he took earlier as it rushes through his body. The streets start cracking under his feet from how fast he’s running. His blazing blue streak almost to its true color.
The chase goes on for several more minutes, until Boomer rounds a corner and hides as the monster runs right past him.
He leans against the wall in the alleyway. Breathing hard from the exertion. He’s never had to run for his life like that. Especially not without his full force of powers.
He can still feel the sting of Antidote X running throughout him. Not completely flushed out.
Maybe if I hide, I’ll be fine.
This thought is short lived when a familiar scream fills the air.
“Bubbles!”
Running once again in the direction of the scream. The same direction the creature ran.
He finds the monster and Bubbles in the heart of Townsville.
She’s caught in the monster’s grasp. Squeezing the life out of her. Her skin turning a bright red from the pressure. A deep gash runs across her forehead.
He can tell she’s having trouble breathing blood shot eyes see him. “Boomer!” She shouts. Boomer can see that it was hard for her to even yell that.
Before he can move to try to help her, he remembers what Butch said.
No matter what you think you hear or what you think you see, you have to keep running!
An internal conflict starts in Boomer.
This doesn’t feel real.
But it does feel real. All the physical exertion feels real, but he feels like he’s stuck between a dream and reality.
His mind is made up when Bubbles lets out a blood curdling scream. The monster running her body through City Hall at a violent speed.
He runs after the monster, summoning energy from his hands. Sending electricity at the monster.
This shocks the monster momentarily as Boomer flies up. Feeling unsteady. He knows it is dangerous trying to fly with AX in his system, but at this moment he doesn’t care as he sends a powerful punch in the monster's face.
It stumbles backwards hitting a building behind it.
While it struggles to get back up. Boomer flies up to the hand that holds Bubbles.
“Bubbles!” He shouts. “Boomer! Help me!” She pleads. Trying to wiggle her way out.
Boomer uses laser eyes to try to release Bubbles, but it doesn’t have the effect he wants as the monster holds on tighter. Swinging her around trying to get back up.
“Shit, shit, shit.” Boomer mutters to himself as a new idea pops in his head.
Flying up to Bubbles, he holds on tight to one of the monster’s fingers. Using all the force he has to bend it back. Boomer struggles with this as the monster keeps moving. Finally being able to come back up to a standing position. Flinging its hand around trying to rid Boomer, but Boomer is one step ahead when a loud snap is heard having broken its finger.
The monster cries out and Bubbles can pull her arms out. Before Boomer can get a hold of Bubbles to pull her out, the monster flings him towards the ground. He’s not able to fly back up no matter how hard he tries.
“Boomer!” Bubbles cries out, extending her arm out. He reaches his own hand out. Nothing will help him with this fall.
He prepares for the impact but keeps his eyes on Bubbles, but the ground never comes. Everything fades to white and Bubbles' scared face fades to nothing.
Is he falling or floating? He’s been here already. It’s silent as he goes through. He panics about Bubbles, but he then hears air whipping quickly around him. The nothing turns into rain clouds and he crashes into a body of water.
This shocks his system at the cold and he swims back up to bring oxygen into his lungs. Coughing up some water.
He looks around frantically. He can smell the saltiness of the ocean. The waves crashing around him and rain pelting down on him.
The waves are strong as he struggles to stay above the water. He tries to fly out, but his energy has been heavily exhausted.
Stay above. Stay afloat. He thinks to himself. He can see the waves coming and he swims the other way to try to avoid it.
He seems to have a handle on things until something grabs him by the ankle and forcibly brings him under water.
He’s surprised by this and breathes in water. Burning his nose and lungs. He tries to free himself but whatever has a hold of him has a vice grip as it keeps pulling him further down the ocean. His ankle shoots up pain throughout his leg. He screams under the water from the force.
His body starts to panic, his hands going to his ankle trying to free himself. He sees a tentacle at his ankle and tries with any amount of energy he can muster to get himself free, but with no avail.
His body starts to go into a state of shock as he gives up the fight.
His arms float up over his head as he feels the water going against him. His eyes slowly close. He suddenly feels a sting in the crook of his elbow. The water around goes away and he feels like he’s falling. Or floating? Either way that’s the least of his worries as he drags air to his lungs.
“Boomer!” A voice calls out to him, he doesn’t care. His lungs are on fire as he greedily breathes in air. His heart beating rapidly in his chest.
Too fast.
“Boomer, you need to calm down!” The voice shouts at him.
Calm down? How do I calm down?
Another sting is what he feels, this time in his neck.
His ankle is in an ungodly amount of pain. His body is in a panic.
His eyes open suddenly. He’s still falling. Or floating. The familiar white becomes gray cement walls as it feels like his soul slams back into his body. He feels a sudden rush go straight to his head. Chemical X?
He’s still gasping for air. His hands fly to his neck. He feels something pull in the crook of his arm and it stings. “Boomer, stop moving!” The voice demands. They grab onto his arms to pull them back down. Boomer turns to look at them and sees red eyes.
Brick. Do I trust Brick?
“Breathe, Boomer.” Brick says in a calm voice. Still holding his arms.
Breathe.
Boomer does just that and pushes Brick’s hands away. Because what the fuck was that and what the fuck is going on.
He doesn’t get to think about it much as the Chemical X moves through his body. Fighting the remaining Antidote X in his system and helping heal his ankle.
Boomer hisses. “My ankle,” he mutters out. Pain in his tone and his body language. “What?” Brick says. Moving over to Boomer’s feet on what he now sees is a makeshift operating table that he’s laying on.
Brick rolls up Boomer’s pant leg and sees the damage done to his ankle. Broken and not healing the way it’s supposed since it was not positioned correctly.
“Shit.” Brick says. He moves quickly around the room. Gathering supplies.
He comes back to Boomer’s side, setting things down. “Do you have more X?” Brick asks. Patting Boomer’s pockets.
Boomer shakes his head. If they’re not in his pockets then he’s out. “Butch.” Is all he says and Brick understands.
Boomer watches Brick move over to the other side of the room where Butch is. Unconscious. He feels guilty for not having noticed him until now, but the guilt is short lived when another shock of unbearable pain shoots through his leg. He groans out in pain.
“I know Boomer. I know.” Brick says, hurriedly. Brick finds three vials on Butch. One is completely shattered, but the other two are still intact.
He takes both of them and brings it back over to Boomer. Boomer notices both vials and shakes his head.
“No. I only need one. Put the other back.” Boomer says through gritted teeth. “I know you only need one.” Brick says. Strapping Boomer to the table. Boomer wants to fight him on it, but any sudden movement is too much for his ankle.
“Put the other back!” He repeats. Louder this time. “Keep your voice down!” Brick hisses out. “Put it back.” Boomer repeats. “What’s the big deal about having both?” Brick asks. Still working and filling a needle with X.
“I don’t trust you! Butch should be the one holding it, not you!” Boomer exclaims. This stops Brick in his tracks. It feels like a slap in the face.
I don’t trust you.
Brick only allows himself a moment with it, and continues to work. “Well you’re gonna have to trust me right now Boomer.” Is all he says.
Boomer starts shaking his head. Brick ignores it as he forces a rag into Boomer’s mouth. “Bite down on that.” He demands. Boomer wants to protest. Not sure what’s going on, but another shock of pain goes through him so his body does exactly what Brick says.
“This is going to hurt.” Brick tells Boomer. Grabbing onto his foot. Boomer then knows exactly what’s going to happen. He starts shaking his head, but deep down knows that it’s pointless.
“One, two, three.” Brick says. Snapping Boomer’s ankle in the correct position in a quick motion. Boomer cries out. The rag muffled him and tears spilled out from his eyes. The restraints hold him in place.
Brick moves quickly. Taking the X and injecting Boomer once more.
He feels it everywhere. In his muscles, in his lungs, and his ankle. His pain goes on for a few minutes. The Chemical X finally calms him down.
He feels tired. Chemical X trying to knock him out. Brick is moving around putting things away and undoing the restraints.
Boomer’s eyes land on a bag of blood. It looks familiar. “Brick.” He says.
He stops what he’s doing and goes over to the blue ruff’s side. “What? Does it still hurt?” He asks, checking his ankle.
“No. Well yes.” Boomer starts. Drowsiness seeping in. “Brick, what’s going on?” He asks softly. His tone reminds Brick of when they were younger and Boomer had asked him why their ‘dad’s’ didn’t love them.
He felt guilty then and he feels guilty now.
“Get some rest Boomer. We’ll talk when you feel better.” Brick says.
Boomer barely catches what he says as his eyes shut and he falls into a dreamless sleep.

Chapter Text
“When I get my hands on that red eyed freak!” Buttercup shouts. Gripping the bars to their cage as she watches the red streak fade into nothing. Trying to bend their trap with her hands. She realizes it’s pointless and redirects her anger towards Blossom.
“I can’t believe you believed the Rowdyruff Boys! I told you we should have just let it go.” Buttercup huffs out.
Blossom is taken aback. “I’m sorry. Last time I checked you were getting pretty close with Butch.” Blossom says, with a clipped tone. “Only because you made me work with him! We set aside our differences for this shit!” Buttercup counters back. “Language!”
This continues for a few moments until Bubbles has had enough. “Cut it out! This is not helping. We were all played by the boys! Now we need to get out of here and stop Him!” Bubbles says.
She is used to being the middle man when the two older sisters argue. Buttercup lets out a huff of annoyance, but says nothing else.
“You’re right Bubbles.” Blossom says and then turns back towards Buttercup. “Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn’t have trusted Butch and Boomer. They seemed genuine when they asked for my help.” Blossom starts. Nervous on telling them the next part.
“The main reason I went along with it was because they thought that Brick had something to do with the murders happening in Townsville.” She admits to them.
The green and blue puff are stunned at this information. “Why didn’t you tell us?” Bubbles asks.
“I didn’t want to worry you.” Blossom responds. “That’s stupid! We’re a team, Blossom!” Buttercup shouts.
She doesn’t give Blossom a chance to respond. “You know what. I’m done with this conversation.” Walking up to the bars of their cell and once more tried to bend them.
Blossom knows it's pointless, but she doesn’t say anything. Rather let Buttercup get some energy out of her system.
Butch wakes with a start. The last thing he recalls is yelling at Boomer.
Was that even real?
His head is pounding. His body is in pain, but not as bad as what he started with. His shoulder is the worst pain he has felt. Having taken the most damage there. A makeshift sling supporting his right arm. He looks over to the side and sees Boomer on a table like his, completely knocked out.
“You’re awake.” Brick says. Getting up and walking over to Butch. All he can do is groan in response as he looks over at Brick. “How do you feel?”
“Never better.” Butch says. Throwing his good arm over his eyes. The bend of his elbow stings and he notices a bandage wrapped around his arm. I didn’t hurt myself there?
“What is this?” Butch asks. Lifting his arm up to get a better look at the bandage.
He looks over at the table beside him and sees a bag of blood. “Did you draw my blood?” He asks. Looking over at Brick again.
He nods. “Had to get the Antidote X out.”
Butch frowns and lazily picks up the bag. Seeing three colors. Like the ones at the house.
“Why?” Butch asks. As they have never done this before when Mojo wanted to calm them down when they were younger. “Wait a minute. Antidote X doesn’t knock us out. It just reduces our powers.” Butch says.
Brick looks at Butch. He can see the wheels turning in his head. “Right. It’s not just Antidote X. There’s something else there.” He responds. Choosing his words carefully.
“What else is in there?” Butch asks. Brick shakes his head. “I haven’t figured it out yet.”
Butch thinks back to the house they stayed at.
The blood bags in the fridge.
“We saw them, you know. In the fridge.” Butch says. Brick nods. Understanding what he means.
“Is what happened to me what’s been happening to you?” Butch continues.
Brick nods again. Not really offering anything more.
Butch looks over at Boomer. He looks seemingly fine besides his ankle where his pant leg is rolled up.
“Is Boomer okay?” He asks. Brick nods. “He got less than you did. Whatever it is. I know he had taken some Chemical X before he went there. He fared better.”
Butch nods glad that Boomer is okay. “Wait, what do you mean he got less?”
Brick thinks about his next words before he says them. “Him agreed to be kinder to Boomer. I got the worst of it. He won’t go as far with you.” He responds.
Butch nods in understanding. Taking in his words.
“Sit up. Let me see your shoulder.” Brick says. Butch sits up with a grunt. The monster in his mind had flung him so hard that it had dislocated his shoulder. Probably tore up the muscles there.
Buttercup had been there. He had been trying to help her get away from the monster. Then he was flung somewhere else. A desert that had a creature trying to sink him down into the ground. Having to run around with AX and a messed up shoulder was the most challenging thing he has ever faced. At some point there is when he realized that nothing was real. But oh how it felt real. Floating in and out of places.
His memory was interrupted with Brick lifting up his shirt and he let out a sigh. “The gash is healing well. Your shoulder needs more time though.” He says. Pulling his shirt back down.
“A gash?” Butch asks. “Yes, you got sliced pretty badly across your back.”
“Didn’t even feel it.”
“Was anyone in your dream?” Brick asks. Butch raises an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“Did you see anyone?”
“Does it matter?”
“It does.” Brick says.
Butch wasn’t sure if he should tell him the truth. He hasn’t been transparent with him or Boomer so why should he?
But the look Brick gives him tells him that he has to know the answer.
“Buttercup.”
Brick’s face goes stone cold. He just gives a nod and says nothing else.
“Why?” Butch asks. “Don’t worry about it.” is the response he gets.
“You just said it matters. So tell me.” Butch says. Getting agitated. Returning to a sitting position.
“Quit moving.” Brick says. Trying to get Butch to lay down again.
“Tell me.” Butch persists. Not laying down.
Brick glares at him and Butch glares back. Brick realizes that he will not win this fight with his stubborn brother.
“Fine. I will tell you this.” Brick starts. Butch nods and lays down again. Being mindful of his shoulder.
“Remember when you and Boomer kept asking me why I look tired all the time?” Brick asks. Butch nods. Brick had looked like he hadn’t slept in days. Pretty severe dark circles under his eyes. Brick would just say that he hadn’t been sleeping well. It was the beginning of his strange behavior.
“I had been having these strange dreams. Nightmares really. Kind of like what you just had. I was getting hurt there, but not in the real world.” He starts. Making sure that Butch was following along.
“I didn’t need Chemical X to heal anything because physically there was nothing to heal. My mind though…my mind didn’t know what was happening. It felt like a fire had started and there was no way for me to put it out. I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t think.” He continued. Pausing to take a breath and let Butch process what he had just said.
Butch stays silent as he listens to every word.
“The letters started coming in. At first I ignored them. I thought I could get over this whole mind thing. I just didn’t know where these dreams had been coming from. Then I got desperate. It felt like my mind was breaking. The letters led me here.” He continued. Emphasizing where they are now is where the letters had sent him.
“Him had already been experimenting with his dreams. Ace was one of the first. He broke easily. The Chemical X was fighting off these dreams. He couldn’t break me the way he wanted. Hurt me the way he could with everybody else. He introduced Antidote X. It wasn’t enough. Whatever else is in there is what’s been tearing me up. Inside out.” Brick finishes.
Butch knows he’s telling the truth. His eyes are their normal shade of red. No malice behind his words.
Just a broken version of himself is what Butch sees.
“Well we have to fight back.” Butch says. Sitting up again. Brick shakes his head.
“It’s too late for me.”
It sounds final.
