“Cerby! Ceeerbyyyy!! Come here girl…Please.”
Yuzu was on the brink of tears. It’d been three hours but there was still no trace of Cerby anywhere. They didn’t have much time left considering sunrise was approaching. Not knowing what to do, he sat down on the sidewalk, trying to come up with a new strategy.
Everyone already checked the usual places she might’ve been. The streets were full of Cerby’s favourite snacks hoping the delicious smell would help lure her. Just as he was about to call him, Jason materialised next to him.
“I got nothing Yuzu.”
“Me neither.”
“I even tried to trick her into playing with humans but it didn’t work…And it always works.”
Yuzu sighed heavily with desperation. “It seems the only option is calling him.”
“...no.” It was more exhaling than speaking. Jason was flabbergasted or shocked with fear. He absolutely didn’t want to go for that option.
“Our punishment is just over mate. Literally it finished this morning. Please don’t do this. He will ruin us again. Maybe the others found something?”
“You think I don’t know that?! This time he’ll probably banish us from coming here for like what? 100 years. But if we won’t find Cerby then I don’t even wanna think about that punishment.”
While Yuzu was preparing to call the boss, Jason kept murmuring next to him.
“Why did we have to look after her anyways? They know she never listens to us. I hate this life, I hate everything.”
It must’ve been their lucky day or by mistake they did something minorly good in one of their miserable lives because before Yuzu had a chance to call their boss, Cerby appeared from nowhere and ran to them playfully wiggling her tail.
“CERBY!!” They were so relieved, both of them hugged her tight while Cerby kept licking both men’s faces with all her three heads and tongues.
“YUZUBUB! JASONFER!” The voice was so mighty, all life on Earth was frozen at that moment.
“Hhh-hhh–hhades?” The God of the Underworld was standing with all his mojo, looking like he’d murder everyone and everything with his gaze.
“What the fuck are you all doing here?! One moment I’m relaxing in my sulphur pits, sipping some blood cocktail and another moment I'm receiving a call saying that Hell is empty and all the demons are here on Earth!”
“Heh…yes well…there was…some…stuff…which…sort of…demanded… our…ehm…attention…” Yuzu managed to form a somehow coherent sentence but Jason looked like he was about to die all over again.
“What stuff?” Hades unfortunately had a very long attention span and didn’t look like he’d let go of the matter without hearing a sensible reason.
As Yuzu’s very dead demon brain tried to find an excuse, Cerby launched herself at his owner.
“CERBERUS!! Haha…hahaha…hahahahah.” Even Hades was weak under his beloved doggy’s licks.
“Who's a good girl?? Who’s a good girl?? YES YOU ARE!! YOU AAAARE!!” He seemed to have forgotten about the matter for now, too busy petting Cerby’s three heads.
Hades stopped petting Cerby for a minute and smirked “You two are lucky I’m in a good mood today. Having a date with Persephone. Now call the other useless demons and go back to where you belong.”
“YES SIR! THANK YOU SIR! THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN SIR!!” Jason looked like he had just been given a second chance at life.
Yuzu quickly dialled the numbers of their fellow demons and relayed the message. Within moments, a group of sheepish demons appeared, ready to retreat back to the Underworld. On the way Yuzu couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Cerby and decided to give her thrice the amount of her usual treats for all eternity.
