It all started on a random Tuesday. Ok so maybe it wasn't so random. It was Sirius's birthday and Remus gave him a small black dog figurine. It was last minute because he was nervous to get him anything out of fear he might not like it at all. Sirius absolutely loved the gift and thanked Remus about 15 times. Remus immediately smiled at this, trying to play it off saying it was nothing, though nothing could hide the blush forming on his face. James smirked at the sight. James then took the opportunity to say “Sirius you look so happy it's as if you could kiss him!”. It was Sirius's turn to become a deep shade of crimson. “Shove off James”. James only smirked, becoming more aware of how well his plan was already working as he shared a look with Peter who returned it.
It was potions class and they were assigned to make Amortentia in pairs. James knew this ahead of time, asking his professor about it that morning, of course took this great opportunity. He immediately said he would pair with Peter and Peter took the hint and kept his mouth shut. Sirius and Remus looked at each other because they all knew Peter was terrible at potions and usually James hated being paired with him and preferred Remus. Though both shrugged it off and were just thankful that they didn't have to work with Peter. James smiled smugly as he knew that his plan was beginning to come together knowing what was about to come. At the front of the class the professor began speaking. “Today we are brewing Amortentia. (James shoots a look at Sirius and Remus, who both promptly turn a slight shade of pink.) This potion will smell different to each person, based on what smells each of you find the most attractive. Or whom. Now, there is a very specific way to make this potion so make sure you pay close attention to the instructions on the board.” With this the class began making their potions in pairs. Back in the common room the 4 marauders began on the homework assignment that their potions professor gave them. James speaks up “can you believe we have to describe what we smell? I mean, why does he need to know.” Sirius takes this opportunity to make fun of James to get back at him. “Why? Do you smell vanilla? Or do you smell Lilies? Or lily?” It was James’s turn to turn red. He responds with a flustered “shut it Padfoot. Besides, you probably smell grass and hot chocolate.” He says this while looking at Remus. “Oh be quiet prongs. I don't want to have to tell the professor that I didn't do the homework. Again.”
About 6 months later they are getting ready for the winter holiday. James is packing to go spend his holiday with his parents and so is peter. Sirius has no desire to go home and Remus has decided to stay as well. They are among the few who did decide to stay home other than 2 first years, 1 fourth year and 1 eighth year. They walk down to the great hall to see James and Peter off. After they leave they go back to the common room and play about 18 games of wizard chess. Late that night Remus wakes up and can't fall back to sleep. He tries getting up quietly so as to not wake Sirius and go to the common room to read and sit by the fire. “Couldn't sleep?” The voice startles Remus as he whips around to see Sirius sitting up in his bed. “No, you?” He wants to kick himself for that. Of course he couldn't! That's why he is awake in the middle of the night. “No I can't either.” He climbs out of bed and walks over to Remus. “Wanna go sit by the fire?” Remus is almost too shocked to answer but he manages a quick “sure” and out they walk.
Now in the common room both boys sit on the floor in front of the fire, a blanket wrapped around their shoulders. “Hey Moony?” Sirius's voice is loud compared to the silence of the common room aside from the fire. “Yeah pads? Is everything ok?” He turns his head to look at Sirius. “Im fine, but i was wondering if…Nevermind actually it's kinda dumb.” Sirius stands, letting the blanket fall to the floor. Remus thinks he is gonna leave, but then Sirius turns to look down at Remus and holds out his hands “cmon im gonna go sit on the couch, my back is sore.” Remus takes Sirius's hands and is surprised to feel how easily he gets pulled up. Remus bends down and grabs the blanket then sits down next to Sirius covering them both with the blanket. Remus rests his head on Sirius's shoulder. “Can I lie like this? I can move if you want” Remus asks tentatively. “Nah, you're fine.” Is Sirius's response as he rests his head on top of Remus’s. They fall asleep like this, and then they subconsciously reach around each other.
On christmas morning Sirius and Remus race out of the dorm room pushing past each other in an attempt to get to the common room first. “MOONY! MOVE!” “NO PADS YOU MOVE!!” This leads to both boys tripping and falling.They end up at the bottom of the stairs, laughing very hard. “I totally won moons” “liar. I won and you know it pads.” As Remus gets up he holds out his hands to help up his friend. Now they walk over to 2 stacks of presents waiting for them. They open them one by one leaving the ones they got for each other for last. “Moony! James got me Bertie botts and chocolate frogs!” “He got me exploding bon bons and butter beer!” After they both get through all the others they finally open the ones from each other “hey, Padfoot?” “Yes moons?” “We should do it on 3. But just a warning, my gift isn't very exciting, it's just kind of something I thought you might like.” “You know I will like anything you give me. On 3, 1…2…3!” They tear open their gifts and study the contents. Remus pulls out a moon lamp and a small bag which contains a small charm. The charm is a small circle with “moony” engraved in it. Sirius looks up at him “the lamp is kind of a joke you don't have to like it, but the charm goes with the small chain that is also in the bag” as he says this Remus reaches back into the bag and pulls out a thin chain necklace. Sirius continues “I got each of us one. James's says prongs, Peters’s says wormy cause worm tail wouldn't fit and mine says Padfoot.” Remus looks at him and watches as he is now removing the contents from his small box. He pulls out a scarf, in the Gryffindor colors but on one end of the scarf it has “Sirius” embroidered in it and on the other end it says “Padfoot” and right in the middle it says “I solemnly swear I am up to no good”. Sirius also pulls out a a small black book with a gray dog silhouette, when he opened it he realized it was blank. Remus speaks up “i saw you writing throughout the term and you kinda seemed lost in it. In a good way. you had this sort of content smile on her face and when i walked up to you and tapped you, you looked up at me with that same smile. I don't know I thought you–” he was cut off by Sirius hugging him. Rather tightly at that. “I take it you like it then…” Sirius's response was barely a whisper “yes” and then the rest of the afternoon they stayed in the common room eating candy and talking about what they were gonna do for the next 2 weeks without James and peter.
3 weeks later everything was back to normal. Well, somewhat. James of course hadn't given up on his plan, though with all the big exams looming over them (the teachers insisted that they start reviewing now, even though “the exams are so far off” of course the 4 friends had to share their thoughts ending with of course more work to do later) James decided he could lay off for a bit. Until that night at least. “Hey guys, i think i'm gonna go out and fly around the quidditch pitch for a bit, does anyone want to come?” Of course this was planned and he knew Sirius and Remus wouldn't come, it was very cold still and knew they would rather stay inside. “I suppose i will go prongs, only if you let me try your broom though!” Peter of course had no desire to go out to the bitter cold, and neither did James and they planed to just sneak off to somewhere in the castle but they weren't just going to leave the other 2 alone, that wouldn't accomplish anything. “Thanks Peter, now you too”he gestures to Remus and Sirius sitting next to each other “before I go, I have a challenge for you” Sirius's eyes lit up at that. He loves a good challenge. “Since you are best friends with each other, you need to try and tell the other a secret they don't already know. If you do, and if you do this successfully, then you will be rewarded. BYE!!!!!” With that he drags Peter out of the room with him.
Now alone in the common room, Remus and Sirius sit facing each other. “I mean, you know all of my secrets! What does James expect us to tell each other?” “I don't know Mooney, you know everything he does and he knows everyt-'' Sirius cuts off remembering how at the beginning of the year he told James his deepest secret. He feels a blush rising in his neck.“Sirius? Are you ok?” “Yeah, im, yeah.” They continue to sit in silence until “Sirius?” Sirius looks up and sees that Remus has stood up and is holding one of his hands out to Sirius. Sirius takes his hand and is pulled up by Remus. “Yes moony?” He has to look up to see his friend's face, which now has a small grin forming. “Do you want to go to the astronomy tower? We can bring blankets and our books and whatever else you want, I'm just tired of being in the common room.” Sirius dosnt even hesitate before answering “yes, moony, i would love too…BUT, we have to bring the Bertie botts too and see who gets the worst flavor.” “Fine, I suppose we can.”
Up in the astronomy tower, Sirius and Remus sit next to each other sharing a blanket, partially leaning on each other. “Ewww! I got earwax!” Sirius cries out. Remus laughs softly then barely a whisper he says “you are cute when you are like this” Sirius looks up “did you say something moons?” Remus opens his mouth to tell him again, but then he instead says “no, i was yawning” Sirius watches as Remus slowly settles more and leans even more against him “rem? Do you want to go back to the common room so you can sleep?” Remus only shakes his head “nah, id rather sit here with you” he says then rests his head on Sirius's shoulder and Sirius wraps his arms around the sleepy Remus. “Ok moons. But we have to get back soon, or James and Peter will wonder where we went.” All Sirius gets as a response is a muffled “mmkay” Sirius begins to settle in resting against Remus, playing with the werewolf's hair and says softly “i think i love you moons.” He didn't expect Remus to hear him. And he doesn't think he does until Remus says “I think I've loved you for even longer.” Sirius freezes. He tries to sit up to see Remus’s face but Remus sits up first. They sit looking at each other for the longest time. Suddenly Remus whispers “well, now James owes us a reward” then he turns and sits back against Remus, this time reaching out for his hand. They sit like that for a bit until Sirius manages to say “Rem,do you know how long I waited for that?” “Probably as long as I have Siri.” Sirius, still holding the other boy's hand who is now probably almost asleep against him, places a very soft kiss on Remus's cheek. Remus, who had his eyes closed, smiles, opens his eyes, sits up, and kisses Sirius. At first Sirius is taken by surprise, and sits very still, until Remus pulls away and stands up, reaching for Sirius's hand. “Cmon Sirius, let's go back to the common room.” Sirius grabs his hand and picking up their stuff, they begin the walk back to the common room. “So moony tell me, how long have you wanted to kiss me?” “Oh hush Siri, like i would ever tell you”
Back in the common room, the 2 boys sat on the couch, cuddling close together. Sirius began playing with Remus's soft hair. Remus smiled and nestled closer into the touch. They fell asleep like this and, not too much later, James and peter emerged from their dorm room, which they had snuck into through the window and James's broom. As they saw the boys holding each other as they slept a satisfied look [assed over their faces. James turns to Peter “finally, took them long enough.” Peter only smiles and nods in agreement.
