Work Text:
Seokjin sat in the back corner of some seedy bar he barely remembered the name of. The music pulsing throughout the dimly lit room was nearly forgotten songs from almost three decades ago. He scrubbed at his face and internally groaned.
This was the only place he could go that wasn’t tainted with the memories of you. He pulled out the pack of cigarettes that rested heavily in his jacket pocket. The crumpled package felt empty as he wrapped his long, slender fingers around it. Teasing it open with his thumb he huffed at the sight of only one.
The empty shot glass innocently sat at the edge of the table- the one he got when the bartender announced the last call just moments ago. The other four from the night were nested inside the tall glass from his mixed drink. He could barely feel his lips as he chewed on his bottom lip thinking of what he should do now.
He was shocked out of his trance when his phone buzzed in his back pocket. With his heart in his throat, he quickly tugged it free- a small part of himself yearning to see your name flashing across his screen. It was a message from his manager with the next week’s updated schedule that he frankly didn’t care for right now. He clicked out of the message just to come face to face with your face smiling back at him, taunting him.
He knew you were cheating on him to some degree. How could he not? He was observant and you weren’t that discreet but maybe it was the guilt that kept his blinders pulled tight. The guilt of always being away for work, it wasn’t easy for couples to do long distance so if you ever admitted to it he would’ve forgiven you without another thought. But he wasn’t on tour or out of town for work. He was on vacation and was excited to spend time with you.
He had plans for the next few weeks of rest and rushed home to you. Only to see you caged in the embrace of another in his bed. In his condo that he bought for the two of you. The disbelief at what was unfolding in front of him held him rooted in the spot as you two didn’t even acknowledge he was there. He slammed the door shut behind him as he stormed to the kitchen to grab a garbage bag. That was something you couldn’t ignore apparently as the two of you stumbled out of the bedroom shock painted on both of your faces.
Your new partner was stuttering out “I didn’t know they had a boyfriend.”
“Husband.” Seokjin gritted out as he held a black hefty bag out in front of you, implications clear to both him and the half-naked adulterer who darted back into the bedroom and dressed quickly- leaving just as fast.
You just stared up at him with wide doe eyes that at any other moment would have melted him at his core. Now they turned the usual butterflies into sludge and he could feel his stomach turning. The shock on your face started fading into anger as he shook his fisted hand urging you to take the damned trash bag.
“Take everything you need now in this bag. I’ll have someone bring the rest of your things later tonight.” his voice was cold and clinical, he was barely suppressing his rage but he knew that blowing up on you would do him no good so he grasped at the lid to keep himself together.
“So you’re just going to kick me out? After all, we’ve been through?!” You took the bag out of his hand and threw it down.
“I’ll have the divorce papers sent to you by the end of this week.” He turned away and stepped into the bedroom, gathering all of your belongings from his nightstand- including two boxes of condoms that were tucked in the back of the drawer in hopes he would never find them.
“You can’t kick me out of my own home. I made one mistake we can work through this Baby.” your back was turned to him as you tugged a pair of shorts on and you turned as you pulled one of his T-shirts over your head.
“One mistake?” he tossed the two boxes in the middle of the bed.
“I bought those for you!”
“They’re the wrong size for me and one is made of fucking latex. I’m allergic to latex Y/N.” He reached down to shake them at you, his grip crumpling the nearly empty cardboard and he watched as your face changed yet again into one of annoyance. You truly didn’t care that he caught you.
“I-I must have forgotten and bought them excited you were coming home at last.”
“They’re fucking empty. Just get your shit and get out, we’re done here.” he stomped over to the closet and started yanking hangers out from your side of the closet as he tossed those too onto the bed.
“I’m not fucking leaving you asshole! You can’t make me leave.” You were less than six inches from his face and he felt himself freeze at the way your face was twisted wickedly.
He pulled himself away quickly and snatched his carry-on from the top shelf of the closet. He started stuffing his essentials into the bag, once half full he stalked across the room and ripped his phone charger out the wall to stuff in the bag as well.
“What are you doing?” You asked as he brushed past you and into the living room.
He ignored you once again and snatched his laptop and notebook off the couch from where he was working last night. He wound up the charging cord as you were stuck behind by only a few inches.
“Seokjin, what are you doing?” you demanded with a deadly tone. He couldn’t help but smirk at the realization that finally dawned on you.
“I’m leaving since you won’t.” He zipped the bag closed and turned to make his way out the front door, making sure to stay a few inches out of your reach as you started to scream nonsense at him.
He cringed at the feral sound of your voice in his memories, it almost sounded as if you were here with him in this rundown hole in the wall. His phone buzzed yet again and he frowned at Jungkook’s name flashing across the screen.
“Hello?” Jin tried to keep his voice from slurring too much.
Jungkook was quick to respond his voice placatingly smooth. “Hey, Yoongi told me you went out tonight.”
“Oh, did he also tell you what happened?” His already sour mood seemed to challenge buttermilk.
“No, well, he tried. He said you haven’t said much just showed up at his apartment last night.” Jungkook was a terrible liar, Jin thought as he stared down at the nearly empty pack on his left.
“I’m sure you know, Y/N hasn’t been quiet about what’s happening.” The anger in his tone- he got called into a meeting as soon as he got to Yoongi’s last night and had to help with damage control from Y/N publicly posting about being heartbroken and abandoned by the very Kim SeokJin. Every Social media platform was boosting its reach by them trying to air out their dirty laundry. From how he missed a birthday to how lonely it is to date a celebrity. They even were claiming he promoted a certain image of a happy household.
“I’ve seen a little of what’s going around but I know that it’s not true.”
“Jungkook, they cheated on me. Not just once or just one affair, it was regular, and with lots of people, I caught them yesterday afternoon.”
“Jin… I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine, it’s not like you did it.”
“It’s not fine- you cherished that relationship more than I ever could imagine. You know everybody’s listening to her lies because we haven’t made any statements.” Jin could tell by his tone that he was trying to lighten the mood. “Anyways, where are you? I’ll pick you up.”
“I doubt I’d be good company tonight Kookie.” Jin stood stiffly as the closers turned the lights on fully. He stumbled towards the door, his hat pulled down tight and his face mask on as he makes his way to his car in the lot outback.
“That’s okay, I need surly company tonight to balance out your usual goofiness. Send me your location and I’ll be there in just a few.”
“Kay, I’m in my car waiting, if you take too long you’re buying me something to eat.” As quick as his fingers could manage he shared his location with the youngster and rested his head on the steering wheel. He tuned out the chattering coming from his phone as he took a few steadying breaths.
His thoughts were straying to the articles making their rounds with his failed marriage being the highlight and how they were siding with you. How he was being painted as a terribly cold man- one so absent and irritable that he had no clue where they got their sources. A sudden flurry of hard knocks took him out of his thoughts and had his heart lodge itself in his ass.
“Are you okay? Do you need to get checked out?” Jungkooks face was pressed to the glass as he tried to examine the damage done tonight.
“I’m fine Kookie,” Jin tried to chuckle as he unlocked the car door only to be met with warm hands on his face.
“Why are you crying?”
“Am I? Guess I’m finally coming to terms that my marriage is over and my career is in flames.”
“Not funny, we’ll extinguish the flames and I know our legal team is working on fixing what they can. Soon you’ll never even have to think of them ever again. We’ll get you back to normal.” Jungkook tugged him to his feet and made his way toward the white car a few parking spaces over. Its driver-side door is wide open and headlights illuminate the backdoor.
“Normal? Where I’m some asshole behind doors?”
“You’re not an asshole, where’d you even come up with something like that.”
“Everybody’s saying it Kookie.” Jin fell into the passenger seat as soon as Jungkook opened the door for him. The younger man squatted down to make sure Jin’s eyes were meeting his.
“Well, Everybody’s wrong. You’re the most loving guy I know, you didn’t deserve this but it’s okay cause we’re here for you. You’ll find someone who will make you happy again, they aren’t it, but you can’t let this break you.” He softly gripped his older brother’s knee as he spoke before pushing himself up and softly closing the car door.
