Work Text:
A knock on the window startled Touya out of his bedtime reading. He put his book down, not before gently folding the corner of the page to remember where he left off, and grabbed the first thing at hand in case he had to defend himself, which was… the AC remote. Wonderful.
Another knock followed, the tiniest bit louder this time. Touya’s hand inched closer to the blinds. They went up, and Touya rose the remote over his head, only to halt to a stop as a low voice whispered-slash-yelled at the other side.
“It’s me, you brute!” Keigo seethed, perched on Touya’s rooftop like some kind of Romeo.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Touya whispered back. He lifted the window enough to peer outside and shoot an annoyed look at Keigo. “Don’t you own a clock or something? It’s almost one in the morning, brute.”
“Look, I’m bored-”
“Not my problem.”
“Wait. Touya!”
Touya slapped his unoccupied hand over Keigo’s mouth, shushing him with his eyes wide open. Only God knew what his father would do if he found Keigo there so late at night.
Keigo nodded, his eyebrows lowering apologetically.
“I just wanted to see you,” he admitted once Touya released him.
Touya’s heart jolted in his chest, kickstarting to life with such simple words. He bit back a smile.
“Couldn’t you wait ‘til tomorrow?”
“I really couldn’t.”
It was such an infuriating, Keigo-like answer that Touya couldn’t help but to be somewhat enchanted. He expected Keigo to take it back or correct himself. When he didn't, Touya had to lower his head to hide the glowing blush on his cheekbones.
With a feigned frown, he shuffled on his feet. Inside, Touya knew he’d already made up his mind.
"Move," he muttered.
Keigo did without question, quietly stepping to the side to give Touya room to push himself up on the window and swing his legs over the rail.
The roof was cold under Touya's bare feet, yet a warm summer breeze tousled his hair. He followed Keigo's lead and sat down with his back against his bedroom front wall, pointedly ignoring the triumphant grin on Keigo's face.
From up there they could see Keigo's home at the end of the street. The kitchen light was on. His mom probably hadn't noticed he sneaked out, probably didn't even care, if she was with someone else. And Keigo was no idiot; he'd chosen that moment to do so precisely because his mom wouldn't bitch about it.
That Touya was the first person he’d thought of running to, made a hot rush travel through his body again.
Keigo knocked their shoulders together, "Why so pensive, hot stuff?"
"Just thinking about the book I was enjoying until a certain annoying ass interrupted me," Touya replied with a scornful smile, not missing a beat.
Keigo gasped, bringing a hand to his chest.
"Was it better than my presence?"
"Yeah. Actually, could you jump off the roof so I can go back to it?"
"You're so full of shit, Todoroki."
Touya chuckled. Yes, he was. He'd choose Keigo's company over a book any day, any night.
A comfortable silence fell over them, wrapping around their shoulders like a soft blanket. Touya propped his chin on his knees and stared up at the dark sky. Only a few stars, the shiniest of them all, were visible from their light-polluted neighborhood; they winked down at Earth, millions of years out of reach and apart from each other.
Touya’s head lolled to the side, eyes lazily swiping over Keigo’s profile. The remaining bump on his nose was testimony to the rough time he’d navigated the previous year, getting into fights for others’ sake and sustaining a family of two while crossing off goals of his personal list.
Life hadn’t been kind to any of them.
But despite the bags under his eyes, for the first time in forever, Keigo seemed relaxed and content to just be.
A tiny part of Touya hoped it was his own doing, that their blossoming relationship had brought peace to Keigo’s tumultus head and put the demons that haunted him to rest.
"You're staring," Keigo singsang. He was actively tearing up the yellow leaves on the cracks of Touya's roof, following the patterns to cut them perfectly.
"I'm not," Touya said, staring.
Keigo's shoulders shook with amusement. His eyes met Touya's fearlessly.
In the shadows they looked almost black, but Touya knew the truth like the back of his hand. Keigo's eyes were molten gold and amber with flecks of brown and his lashes curled naturally towards the sun, saluting it.
A bashful smile pinched the corner of his mouth despite the bold attitude, a dimple making a brief appearance on his right cheek.
"What?" Keigo said in the middle of another laugh.
Sitting up straight, Touya shook his head to draw the topic to an end. He focused his gaze on the sky again, more than aware of the curious eyes analyzing his profile.
Keigo shuffled closer and nosed Touya's neck, specifically the sensitive spot behind his ear. Touya didn’t think of pushing him away, shivering but smiling to himself as Keigo's lips skimmed along his jawline.
Touya turned his head slightly to meet his lips, sighing into yet another tentative kiss. He gripped Keigo's jacket, failing miserably to keep the nerves at bay, and Keigo held one of his trembling hands with loving patience and pulled back a little.
"Breathe, Touya," he whispered, drawing circles on the back of Touya's hand.
"This is what you do to me, I hate you," Touya whispered back, lips brushing against Keigo's.
He chuckled.
"Keep telling yourself that."
Another kiss followed, more confident than the previous one, and Keigo let go of Touya's hands in favor of cradling his face.
Keigo parted his lips in a silent invitation for Touya to crawl inside and survey the heat of his mouth. He always made the sweetest sounds when they kissed, unconsciously or not.
Neither of them had much experience, except for what little they gained with each other and watching movies, but to Touya they were the best of the best. A bit sloppy, as his own tongue outlined Keigo's bottom lip and licked inside his mouth shyly, but pleasing nonetheless.
Touya could feel himself floating away and towards Cloud 9, and was just about to say fuck it and invite Keigo inside, when a sharp knock on his window startled him for the second time that night.
Both his and Keigo's head whirled towards the sound, and they broke away from each other's hold. Natsuo stuck his head out, grinning mockingly like the gremlin he was.
"Keigo, what a surprise!"
"What are you doing?" Touya frowned before his idiot boyfriend had a chance to answer.
"Saw your light on, bro," Natuso jabbed a thumb over his shoulder.
"I mean, it's one AM. What are you doing out of bed?"
"Exactly." His brother beamed again, not answering the question at all. Touya rolled his eyes while Keigo snickered. "You better lock your door next time. Imagine if it was Enji who came in- Or even worse: mom."
Touya shivered. Enji was one thing—he'd probably yell at Touya in a low voice to not wake the others up and ground him for, at least, a week. He'd kick Keigo out and that would be that.
His mom, on the other hand, would say hi warmly and engage in a conversation with Keigo like nothing happened, then sit Touya through an hour long TED talk on why kissing a boy on the roof was dangerous. She'd hug him and tell him to stop growing up so fast, and that's- that's something Touya would rather avoid.
"I'll go inside in a minute," he told Natsuo, then squinted. "You go to bed and don't tell a single soul about this or you're fucking dead, got it?"
Natsuo nodded, his white hair moving funnily back and forth.
"Nobody will know you’re in love."
Touya huffed. He didn't try to deny it —there wasn't anything to hide, after all— but his cheeks did heat up like two light bulbs.
Natsuo went away with an amused glint in his eyes and Keigo cleared his throat, calling Touya's attention back.
"So," he started, prolonging the 'O', "that means I've got to go now?"
"Sadly," Touya sighed. He leaned in, pressing an ephemeral kiss to Keigo's down-turned lips. "We'll see each other later, yeah?"
Keigo hummed his agreement. He stood up carefully, never ready to leave but having to do so anyway, and Touya's hand latching onto his own halted him in his tracks.
"Let me know how things go, 'kay?"
Keigo shot a quick look over his shoulder, towards his house.
"Don't worry, hot stuff," he whispered reassuringly, squeezing Touya's hand.
Touya watched him climb down the tree in front of his bedroom and walk all the way back to his own house. Only then did Touya allow himself to return to bed.
He lied awake for another hour, waiting for Keigo's text, and went to sleep with the ghost of another lips on his.
