Usopp didn’t realize until he was finally safe and far away from Perona.
What didn’t he realize?
“Could you get out of my internal monologue?” Usopp demanded.
He could practically feel Sogeking shrugging.
During the fight with that ghost girl, Sogeking and started talking to him, and he hadn’t stopped. Usopp’s memory wasn’t exactly renowned but he was pretty sure that wasn’t supposed to happen. Sogeking was just a figment of his imagination, another told to keep himself safe, theme song and all!
I’m right here you know.
“Shut Up!”
Usopp wound his arms around his head, trying to block out the sound.
Water seven had been one of the worst experiences of his life, but of course, Sogeking was older than that. It had been easier to let the character take over in his anger and fear. Playing the part just like he always did.
I know you’re scared right now, Usopp—
“You’re right I am!” Usopp’s breathing sped up and he tried to battle it back down. “I’m scared and I’m confused and I don’t know why I have to deal with this.”
Sogeking was silent for a moment.
But can you imagine Luffy with voices in his head? He’d probably try to fight them and knock himself out.
Usopp cracked a smile at the image.
“Or Zoro? He would probably pick a fight with Sanji or something,” Usopp snorted. He sombered back up quick though. “Who…Who are you?”
I’m Sogeking, of course!
The theme started up as Sogeking struck a pose.
“Stop Stop Stop!”
The music screeched to a halt.
Usopp slumped.
“I just want,” he screwed his eyes shut, “to be a brave warrior of the sea!”
Usopp felt his head tilting to the side as Sogeking contemplated the situation.
I mean, you’re sailing with the future king of the pirates. I’d say that’s pretty brave.
“I guess,” Usopp half shrugged.
For now, we have a job to do, so let’s get going.
“True,” Usopp pushed himself up. “Off we go! I mean, I took down ghost girl and won! Nobody else in the crew stood a chance against her!”
That’s the spirit!
His high spirits lasted until they made it to the courtyard and saw the mountain that was Luffy’s zombie. It was gigantic. Three times the size of any giant. Usopp could only gawk as it rampaged on, not even really noticing him, Nami, and Chopper.
He swallowed roughly.
“I’m scared,” he said. That thing was huge.
I believe in you, Usopp, but if you can’t handle things, I’ll step in.
Usopp tightened his grip on his slingshot and glared up at the thing that had Luffy’s shadow.
“I’ve got this.”
