Ena may have been rude at times, but she had a soft spot for all things cute. The cream colored cat that sat on the outside of Mizuki and Ena’s front door was no exception. He always greeted the two with a happy meow, rolling around on the floor and happily accepting their pets. He occupied the space at all times. The cat always stayed outside, almost guarding their front entrance. It seemed like he didn’t have a home, which meant no owner.
As per usual, the cat was situated outside of their front door. Ena was performing her morning routine of feeding him since it seemed that no one else was.
“Hi, kitty~!” the artist cheered, excited once more to see her furry friend. He adorably meowed back, flopping on the floor and exposing his belly to the girl. Ena giggled, squatting down to get closer to him. She ran a hand through the fur on his head, scratching behind the ears in the way he liked.
”Someone’s excited to see me, hehe…” Ena chuckled to herself before pulling out her phone. She loved the little guy, partially due to the fact that he got her a lot of views on social media. Cats were an easy attention grabber, for the internet as well as Ena herself.
Snapping a picture, she quickly added on her usual filters before hitting post. It took mere seconds before likes starting popping up out of nowhere. She sighed with content.
”You like that little guy more than me, huh?” Mizuki came out suddenly, quietly shutting their door as to not disturb the cat. Ena’s head quickly shot over to her girlfriend.
”You’re always saying that. I can’t love you both the same?”
”Well, if that’s the case, then where’s my selfie with the cute and awesome Ena?”
Groaning, Ena got back up to her feet. She wrapped her arm around her girlfriend’s shoulders, pulling out her phone to take another picture. Before she hit the button, Mizuki gave her a quick peck on the cheek. This made Ena smile a bit more, a blush forcing its way through her freshly-applied makeup.
Pulling away from Mizuki, she tucked her phone into her pocket. Her gaze went to the kitty that frequently remained outside of their shared apartment. He was always so happy to see them and yet so content to sleep on firm concrete every night. Ena wondered how happy he might look if he got to lay on a soft, squishy couch cushion.
”Mizuki…”
”Yeah, babe?”
”I know we kinda already talked about this before but…” The artist fidgeted with the fabric of her sleeves, twisting them between her fingertips. “I really do want to take him in. Can we, please?”
Ena looked to Mizuki, fluttering her eyes in an attempt to persuade her girlfriend. She was use to using this method. Ena would try to guilt trip Akito into getting her things back in high school, but they had both grown up. Now Mizuki was her errand-runner.
Mizuki sighed, crossing her arms over her chest. “You really like him, huh?”
Ena nodded earnestly, batting her eyelashes once more. Mizuki looked at the cat, who was making a similar expression. They looked about the same if she squinted hard enough.
”Hehe, I can’t say no to that face. Alright, we’ll take him in.”
”Yay!” Ena squealed, wrapping her arms around Mizuki. She aggressively kissed all over the designer’s face. “Thank you! I love you so much!”
”I love you too.” Mizuki grinned, a blush spreading across her cheeks.
The brunette kneeled down, enveloping the feline into her arms.
”Okay, then. Let’s bring him inside! ”
It had been days since Mizuki and Ena took in their newfound feline friend. They were able to take him to the vet, giving him the shots he needed. The girlfriends even went all out on cat toys, treats, and a large-sized tower. He was as happy as any cat could be. Mizuki and Ena had a problem, however.
A name.
No matter what the girls tried to brainstorm, they couldn’t land on a good name. When either of them looked at him, nothing seemed to come to mind. He was such a happy kitty. He deserved the best things in the world, so why couldn’t this name just come to them already? The poor thing needed one.
”I was hoping he’d more playful.” Ena smiled toward the cat whilst positioned next to Mizuki on the couch. The cat with no name was happily laying on the hardwood floor of their living room.
”Yeah, he’s totally lazy like you…” Mizuki jabbed at Ena, shooting her a snarky look in order to tease Ena.
Ena looked at her angrily, almost as if to say, “If you keep going, I will murder you.”
”Sorry, sorry, I’ll stop.” Mizuki chuckled, trying to avoid the wrath that was Shinonome Ena.
The artist took her gaze away from her guilty looking girlfriend to the ball of fluff on the floor. He was doing what he typically did, lying down on the ground. A content expression filled his face. The cat really was a good boy.
If Ena had to come up with the perfect adjective for his personality, it’d be sweet. The way he showed affection and happily let anyone pet him truly lived up to that trait. If she needed one for his physical appearance, she’d say he is fluffy. Looking at him on the floor now, his beige coat sat so perfectly. He typically flopped down, his body slightly jiggling from the impact. Now that Ena thought about it, he reminded her of something familiar…
Pancakes…
Damn, pancakes sounded really nice right now. Too nice in fact.
Wait… Pancake… that rolled off the tongue nicely. He looked like a pancake. That part she was certain of.
“Pancake.”
”Huh?”
”Pancake. We should name him that.”
”Pancake, huh…” Mizuki took a second to let it sink in. She looked deeply at the feline, trying to put the name to the face. The editor couldn’t help but laugh. It was such a childish name but… she found it cute, almost endearing. She had to admit that the name stuck as she replayed it in her head.
”I like it. Pancake. We’ll stick with it.” Mizuki said, smiling at her girlfriend upon the suggestion.
Ena squealed, excited by the fact that the cat- no, Pancake finally had a name. The artist typically had been criticized on her ability to come up with new fresh ideas. To have something she came up with on her own be validated made her incredibly joyful.
She snapped a cute picture of Pancake, happy to show her followers the name she picked out for her newfound friend.
‘Hello, everyone. Meet Pancake <33333’
