Chapter 1: New Pirate Alliance?!
Chapter Text
PUNK HAZARD, New World
A mere few days since Straw Hat Luffy and his crew appeared on Sabaody after disappearing off the face of earth for two whole years, they are already sending waves throughout the Grand Line and the entire world. Now, they have managed to pass through Fishman Island and are well on their way to destroy the delicate balance in the New World.
Under the promise of anonymity, several of the gangster-like marines from the infamous G5 Navy base have shared some scandalous information with us! They claim that not only has Straw Hat Luffy himself taken over and destroyed a priceless, state-of-the-art laboratory on Punk Hazard—he has also managed to get himself an unbelievable ally! And it’s someone you all know very well!
A member of the Worst Generation, this man caused an uproar during the disastrous Rocky Port incident when he delivered a full 100 (one hundred!) pirates’ hearts to the Navy Headquarters in order to become one of the Warlords of the Sea!
Yes, indeed—not even ‘Surgeon of Death’ Trafalgar Law is immune to Straw Hat Luffy’s charm.
We cannot imagine the Navy Headquarters will simply overlook this but it seems that Monkey D. Luffy’s presence means more than the threat of losing his Warlord title to the cold, stoic man. (And, if our sources are to be believed, he would do near anything for that sunny smile!)
But what is this new alliance’s purpose? What will be the Navy Headquarters’ reaction? Be on the lookout for the next issue of the World Economic Journal as we continue to bring new information straight to you!
Chapter 2: Dressrosa Destroyed, Doflamingo Dethroned!!
Chapter Text
DRESSROSA, New World
It has been ten years since the infamous Warlord of the Sea Donquixote Doflamingo stepped up as the king of the country of Dressrosa. At the time, it had seemed as if he had saved the country from the tyranny of King Riku Doldo, who had gone mad as he set his own, peaceful country on fire, as well as hurting innocent citizens.
To no one’s surprise—if you have been following President Morgans’ articles and commentaries—nothing was as it seemed!
Just yesterday, the world was shocked by Doflamingo’s sudden abdication and then renouncement of it (“False report my ass! The Government is covering something up, I know it!” President Morgans famously said,) and now, the man himself is in Admiral Fujitora’s custody and waiting to be taken to Impel Down.
So what exactly happened within the past 24 hours?
If you have read yesterday’s issue (and we are sure you have!), you no doubt know about the new alliance between Straw Hat Luffy and Trafalgar Law. Well, now we know what the purpose of their alliance was!
Indeed, it was these two high-profile pirates who had caused the coup in Dressrosa and dethroned its king, bringing king Riku to power once more—as well as uncovering the conspiracy that had been brewing underneath Dressrosa’s brilliant appearance for the past ten years, and destroying most of the country as the result.
Does that make them villains? Or heroes?
We have asked the Dressrosans themselves to bring you their opinions!
The first people we interviewed looked conflicted, obviously still shaken from the sudden chain of events that had turned their lives upside down. “Well, at first I was pi**ed because if they didn’t come, we would keep living in peace! But, well… I guess not being ruled by a pirate is a good thing…” one of the men said before turning to his friend, who looked even more conflicted—dare we say, on the verge of a mental breakdown. “I mean, yeah it’s great we’re not unknowingly under tyranny but you know what I found out three hours ago after I just married my girlfriend last week? I was already married! And my first wife is now threatening to stab my second wife, who obviously isn’t about to sit back and take it, so now I have two wives who are out to kill each other and I might just have to move to another country just to get away from all this.”
(Dear Dressrosans, if you are facing a similar situation, let us recommend the South Blue! It’s a gorgeous sea with wonderful weather, all but asking for a day spent basking in the Sun on the beach! And if lazing about is not your thing, South Blue also has many historical and modern sights to behold! - sponsored by South Blue Tourism Association)
Next, we moved to one of the last remaining intact houses, where we asked the lucky owner about her own impressions. She was much more decisive in her statement, saying, “I’ve been a toy for the past seven years, I owe them everything! They’re Dressrosa’s greatest heroes!” How touching!
Unfortunately, we then made our way to the island’s outskirts, where not a single building was left standing. There, we made the mistake of approaching one of the unfortunate inhabitants, who angrily snapped at us, “My f**king house and everything in it was completely destroyed, what the f**k do you think?!”
Quickly leaving the outer towns, we headed back towards the Flower Hill—the new King’s Plateau—where we got a few very interesting answers!
“Alliance? You mean they’re not dating? I thought—” a young girl said to the enthusiastic agreement of her friends.
“I know! I saw the Warlord picking some sunflowers… I heard from Rebe— Lady Rebecca that Lucy is still recovering so I thought for sure those were for him…” One of her friends hurried with her own observations.
“You know,” a boy added in a hushed whisper. “I sneaked around the house where they’re staying earlier today to take a peak and the Warlord was sitting on Lucy’s bed, touching him all over!! And the green-haired swordsman just watched, it was super weird!”
What scandalous information! But as we all know, despite being a pirate, Trafalgar Law is also a skilled doctor and Straw Hat Luffy is seriously injured right now. So, was he simply performing a check up? Or letting his curious hands wander by themselves? Or something else?
Are there romantic feelings truly involved?! We will keep our ears to the ground and provide you with the newest, best sourced information on this blossoming couple on the pages of this World Economic Journal .
Don’t miss anything in the next issue!
Chapter 3: Zou Invaded
Chapter Text
ZOU, New World
Hundreds injured, a millennium old city destroyed in Beast Pirates’ raid on the Mokomo Dukedom led by Jack the Drought but a few days ago.
This news catches us just as distressed as surprised. After all, how many people can say that they have visited Zou, the phantom island? Not many, we recon.
The island has been shrouded in mystery for many years. Most people don’t even know (or believe) it exists, not to mention being able to go there. And why is that?
As the name suggests, Zou is not actually an island as we understand it, but rather a real, incredibly rare naitamie-norida elephant. Therefore, as a living creature, not only is it impossible to follow a log pose to get there, the ‘island’ doesn’t ever stay in the same place . Some assume the few minks who leave their homeland have a secret connection to the elephant and are able to hear its voice calling them or, and this is the more rational explanation, one can only get back by following a vivre card.
No one knows as the minks are quite protective of their country and hardly, if ever, share any information on it.
That is why the news of an invasion is quite shocking, as it is horrific.
The minks’ culture goes back as far as 1000 years and there are many people living peacefully on the elephant’s back. This raid, this barbaric invasion is a disaster both humanitarian and historical.
But, thankfully, a greater tragedy was averted thanks to none other than our favourite power-couple—excuse us, pirate alliance.
One of the minks who were present during the terrible events, Miss Milky, has shared with us that in a curious twist of fate, the Heart Pirates excluding their captain were already in Zou when the Beast Pirates had landed, and a part of the Straw Hat crew arrived there only a day after Jack and his entourage had left in a hurry.
And of course, a few days after that, the two captains themselves and the rest of their— Straw Hat’s crew arrived.
As of right now, we can confirm that the two lovebirds are still on Zou!
According to our information, the two of them have spent the whole evening (and night) by each other’s side while they enjoyed the celebration organised in the honour of the country’s saviours by one of the rulers of the country (Zou traditionally has two rulers). Straw Hat Luffy regularly went away alone but never for long, always coming back with more food to share with Trafalgar.
Curiously, he always ate the bread first, never leaving any for his ‘ally’. And even more curiously… the ex-Warlord always smiled, obviously unbothered by the food thief.
Is that a sign that the ice is melting? Or is it simply because they thought no one was watching that they threw away the pretences to be with each other exactly the way they wanted?
The most important question—are they already dating, or are they still finding their way to each other?
We will continue to look for more information and keep you updated on these pages. Look forward to some insight from sources very close to the world’s newest (future?) power couple!

Chapter 4: The Fifth Emperor Has Emerged
Chapter Text
WHOLE CAKE ISLAND, DRESSROSA, New World
While the world is focused on the happenings at Levely, the World Summit of the world’s leaders, earth-shaking events have taken place in Totto Land, the collection of islands under direct control of the Emperor Big Mom.
With but a few people by his side, Monkey D. Luffy had infiltrated his way straight to the heart of the country’s territory to directly challenge the Emperor’s authority and, up until now undisputed, tyrannical reign.
And what a challenge it was!
With his calculated strategic brilliance and irrefutable charisma, Straw Hat Luffy managed to organise a well planned attack. He even took Capone ‘Gang’ Bege and his Fire Tank pirates under his wing, leading them to rebel against their own leader—after a full year of being a stead-fast, reliable part of Big Mom Pirates’ structure.
But the young man’s recruitment didn’t end there. Even more surprisingly, he managed to sway another (and truthfully, much more honourable than the well-known serial traitor Bege) pirate to join his cause! ‘First Son of the Sea’ Jinbe, an ex-Warlord and captain of the Sun Pirates comprised entirely of fishmen, didn’t just tale Monkey D. Luffy’s side either. Rather, he directly declared his intention to personally join the Straw Hat crew!
And how did the attack on Big Mom itself go?
Straw Hat Luffy and his group organised their assassination attempt during one of Big Mom’s famous, unavoidable tea parties from hell. One would assume that with timing like that, when all the strongest members of the opposing pirate crew were present, it would go terribly. However, even that was planned as in Big Mom’s very own castle, the Whole Cake Chateau, an explosion went off just when it looked like the grand plan had failed, allowing for Big Mom Pirates’ complete humiliation and loss, as well as Straw Hat’s successful escape.
Even this chain of events would have been enough to consider Monkey D. Luffy a new major player in the New World. But our special reporters who are present on the currently still-recovering Dressrosa (for details, see last month’s World Economic Journal issue #56) have brought us some very important testimonies.
According to their reliable sources, Straw Hat Luffy not only defeated the ex-Warlord Donquixote Doflamingo, he also gathered quite the following before he left the island.
“Luffy-senpai is incredible!” one of them has said. “Of course the Barto Club swore allegiance to him, but there’s six other crew’s. Though of course, none of them are as reliable or devoted as us—I mean, his number one fans from the Going Luffy-senpai. We—I mean they will do whatever they can to help him!!”
Another of these inside sources gave us more insight. “He’s got about 5,400 people working under him now. He didn’t seem very happy about it, which is ridiculous when the greatest star, ‘White Knight’ Cavendish is one of the pirate captains who swore to follow him. Ungrateful saviour! But, the Pirate Prince doesn’t need his approval. He is more dazzling than him, after all!” our anonymous source explained with self-assured laughter, before he started simulating an interview with himself, which we politely ignored.
Of course we couldn’t miss the opportunity to ask about his alliance with Trafalgar Law either. The last of our contacts was very excited to answer our questions about that—and very adorable as well! (Unfortunately as his answers were provided under the promise of anonymity, we cannot provide photographs of the cutest, tiny little warrior under the flag of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.)
“Who Law-land is to Luffy-land?” he asked as he thought hard about his answer. “They’re great friends! Luffy-land carried Law-land all over Dressrosa during the battle and Law-land refused to leave Luffy-land’s side even though he was badly injured! It was very inspiring. But there was this strange tension between them during the party after they left Dressrosa… What could it be…?”
“They were flirting. It was very awkward to watch, neither of them knew what they were doing. The well-loved star, that is me, offered them some guidance on the art of love but they were simply hopeless!” our second source supplied helpfully while he shook his head and clicked his tongue in disappointment.
And there you have it folks, the long awaited confirmation of your—and ours—suspicions.
Young love is in the air!
So what does all this mean?
Monkey D. Luffy who, at only 17 years of age, raided all three of the Navy’s impregnable strongholds. A man who stands at the head of a Grand Fleet counting over 5,400 devoted followers. A pirate who had managed to bring down Donquixote Doflamingo, who challenged Big Mom and won.
An intelligent, charismatic leader who can control and command many different people, all of whom follow him without question. Experienced in the art of seduction enough to break the ice-cold shell of the admired, yet intimidating Trafalgar Law.
Indeed, all things considered, we can only draw one conclusion!
The Fifth Emperor of the Sea has emerged!!
Chapter 5: Monkey D. Luffy, Trafalgar Law Finally Together?!
Chapter Text
LAND OF WANO, New World
It seems that after the miraculous victory over the ex-Emperors Kaido and Big Mom, emotions ran high, providing perfect ground for the two infamous pirates to finally confront the feelings that have been slowly blossoming ever since their alliance was created.
And now, with their alliance formally over, there is a bond between them that is stronger than ever! As you can see on the photographs our generous informant had sold— shared with us, the two have finally exchanged a romantic kiss under the moonlight, surrounded by beautiful lanterns during a lively festival in the Land of Wano.
And what do their friends have to say about this revelation?
“About damn time,” Straw Hat’s ‘Cat Burglar’ Nami, told us simply, followed by several nods of agreement from ‘Pirate Hunter’ Zoro, and Heart Pirates’ Shachi and Penguin.
“I don’t f**king care. As long as they stop making out in front of my f**king face. Anyway, Apoo, your ass is still here?!” Eustass ‘Captain’ Kid, another member of the Worst Generation and a close friend of the two, said. (“I am not their friend!” he yelled, hurling a bunch of metal pipes at our informant.)
On the other hand, the guardian wolf of Wano (and Kaido’s son!) was quite excited at the news. “They are?! That’s great! Argh, why didn’t Luffy tell me?! We need to celebrate!”
We have also approached the new Shogun of Wano with his small friend, a young girl by the name of Tama, asking for their thoughts on the matter. Lord Kozuki Momonosuke blushed furiously, surprisingly innocent considering his mature, cool appearance. “Is—is that what it was?!” he asked, full of horror. “I thought they were fighting when I saw them earlier but you’re saying they were kissing?! Is that why Law-dono looked so angry when I interrupted them?! Oh god…”
Quite adorably, his young friend took the information in stride, laughing happily, “Oh that’s amazing! I hope big bros Luffy and Torao are happy!”
All in all, it looks like everyone is delighted at the news—including us! They are indeed a beautiful, sweet new couple!
But what does the couple in question have to say?
“Tell Big News-ya to f**k off about this already and stop making sh*t up to boost his stupid sales,” Trafalgar Law groaned, much to Straw Hat Luffy’s amusement.
When our informant in turn asked whether our reports helped them realise their feelings for each other, Straw Hat Luffy bluntly said he doesn’t read the newspaper because it’s ‘boring’ and “I only care when it’s about my friends” (we are preparing for a lawsuit with the both of them as you we speak).
Meanwhile, Trafalgar Law told us to ‘mind our own damn business’ and that ‘meddling in other people’s lives is entirely unwanted and unnecessary’.
We beg to differ, Surgeon of Death!
Look forward to more news on the adorable, official couple soon!

SABAODY ARCHIPELAGO, Paradise
We are delighted to announce the day has finally come!
Pirate King Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar Law’s wedding took place this weekend and it was every bit as beautiful—and chaotic!—as one would expect from these two. On these pages, you can find a full report of the event, photos with critique of the guest’s outfits of choice, interviews, and more, brought to you by none other than President Morgans of the World Economic Journal himself!
President Morgans was very flattered when he received an invitation to this once-in-a-lifetime ceremony. Trafalgar Law later commented on the invitation, “If we didn’t, he wouldn’t shut up about it and just made sh*t up anyway.”
How sweet of him!
The ceremony took place on the beach of Grove 37 on the Sabaody Archipelago with guests from all over the world, across all social classes and sides of law.
There was the Queen of Alabasta with Fishman Island and Dressrosa royal families, and right next to them, a band of (happy sobbing) mountain bandits from Dawn Island, a backwater island in East Blue (Straw Hat Luffy’s hometown).
There were pirates like Eustass ‘Captain’ Kid, ‘Red Hair’ Shanks, and ‘Hawk Eye’ Mihawk. Revolutionaries headed by ‘Flame Emperor’ Sabo were mingling with navy wo/men, starting with Straw Hat Luffy’s grandfather Garp the Fist, continuing with the retired Fleet Admiral Sengoku, and ending with the current Fleet Admiral Smoker and Admiral Coby.
It was a curious sight, but somehow, it didn’t seem unnatural at all. After all, the Pirate King is that kind of man!
We were a little disappointed that neither of the grooms was wearing a dress, but when asked for an explanation, Straw Hat Luffy drew out a whine of “I hate frills.” Trafalgar Law, on the other hand, looked straight up disgusted at the very notion, threatening to rip out the President’s feathers and stick them in his eyes. Scary!
(Thankfully, the female members of their crews have provided much eye-candy for us—and you! Proceed to page 26 to see the photo gallery.)
After the ceremony, it was time for the celebratory banquet for the newlyweds. The food was aplenty, as expected of a feast for the Pirate King. World famous chefs have joined forces in the preparations, headed by Straw Hats’ very own ‘Black Leg’ Sanji, followed by staff from the famous sea restaurant Baratie, and ending with, much to our surprise, Charlotte Chiffon, Lola, and Pudding. Indeed, the daughters of the ex-Emperor Big Mom, whom the two grooms and their friends (“Not their f**king friend,” Eustass Kid yelled once again, apparently still deep in denial) had memorably defeated a few years ago. Seems like time heals all wounds… or maybe there were no wounds to begin with.
Music at the party as well was provided by the world's top stars. Of course, Soul King was one of those present; as we all know, he’s a member of the Straw Hat crew. But how many people had expected to see and hear the diva, the songstress, Princess Uta in the flesh, owning the stage?
She was every bit as mesmerising as she is over the streamer transponder snails; even now, after years of silence from her, no one was able to tear their eyes away! She even performed new songs, written specifically for this joyful event! (For more details and first ever full interview with Miss Uta, proceed to page 3.)
The celebration went on until early morning. If you think that was when everyone went to their rooms in the many hotels in Sabaody park, however, you would be sorely mistaken. Instead, it is when the last remaining people fell asleep—right where they were sitting. Over the course of the night, no one actually left the party. As if unwilling to miss anything, or maybe simply wanting to show they were still there, a part of the family and having fun, everyone went to sleep right there, in the party area. Others provided them with blankets and pillows, some deciding to cuddle together (especially with Heart Pirates’ Bepo and Straw Hat’s Tony Tony Chopper—who is not a tanuki, as we were strictly reminded several times—, and the mink guests), falling asleep with content smiles on their faces.
Indeed, it was a party the kind we have never seen before—but in our opinion, all parties should be this warm, this happy, and this welcoming.
We wouldn’t be complaining if the Pirate King and his husband picked up the tradition of tea parties from Big Mom! It would be an experience just as impossible to miss as the ex-Emperor’s but for entirely different reasons. No one wants to miss having this much fun!
Even just watching the newlyweds was a joy! They looked so very happy and beautiful, sharing loving looks and kisses… despite the amount of frustrated scolding Trafalgar Law did in response to Straw Hat Luffy’s laughter after obliterating the entire wedding cake by himself, breaking the champagne fountain while playing with friends, calling Fleet Admiral Sengoku ‘Torao’s grandpa’, and many other instances.
But let us tell you, despite how angry the man tried to sound every time, there was no denying how happy he was and how much fun he was having!
Love truly is a beautiful thing; we are almost jealous!
But right now, we can do nothing but wish the two of them the best in their future! May they stay healthy, happy, and in love for many years to come!
