30 days of prompts, Day 18: A Humble Brag Goes Wrong

Summary:

Claire asks Leon and Chris about their plans for their first dance.

Notes:

Thank you for all the views, kudos and comments. As always, they are very much appreciated.

I want to be honest, even after researching and finding example, after example I had a hard time figuring out what a humble brag was. This was the closest I could get, so I apologise if it isn't really a humble brag.

Still, I hope you enjoy it :)

30 Days of Prompts, Day 18:

A Humble Brag Goes Wrong

“Are you having a first dance?” Claire asked.

“I don’t know…” Chris sounded skeptical.

Claire shot him a look and then turned towards Leon.  “You know how to dance, don’t you?”

“Well, I have been to my fair share of benefits and the like,” Leon shrugged.

“Twirling beautiful women across the dance floor all night,” Claire added, a playful glint in her eye.

“We’re having a first dance,” Chris interjected.  He coughed and seemed to calm down a little.  “If that’s alright with you?” He asked, turning to Leon.

“Sure. If that’s what you want babe,” Leon replied, unable to break Chris’ heated gaze.

His fiancé was clearly a little jealous and, honestly, it was a bit of a turn on.

“So,” Claire interrupted and the moment was gone.

Leon filed it away for later, as he and Chris turned to face her.

“Do I need to leave you two alone for a moment?  Or should we try to decide on a song, so you can let the wedding planner know.”

The only problem with the whole first dance was that Leon didn’t actually know how to dance all that well.  The one and only time he had was with Ashley at a Presidential benefit.  After everything they had been through together, he hadn’t had the heart to turn her down and had ended up stepping on her toes the entire time.  She’d tried to teach him as they went along, once it was clear he was kind of hopeless.  It had helped a bit, but they were both glad when the song had finally ended.

And with the wedding fast approaching he had two options- tell Chris and scrap the first dance, or ask someone to teach him.

He decided on the latter.

“What do you mean you can’t dance?” Claire asked.

“Claire,” Leon implored, “I can’t twirl anyone around a dance floor.  I don’t know how.  All I’m going to do is end up stepping on Chris’ toes, unless you help.  Please.”

“I don’t think anyone expects anything spectacular,” Claire sighed, “but I can teach you the basics.”

“Thanks.  I just want this to be perfect for Chris.”

“You know, just you being there is going to make it perfect.  I’ve never seen him happier,” Claire swallowed and took a moment.  “OK.  Help me move the coffee table.”
