Work Text:

The night was calm, and the house was quiet.

As usual, Alhaitham sat relaxed in his study, absorbing himself in a light novel. The book was rather intriguing, in fact, so much so, that Alhaitham hadn’t noticed the loud and persistent knocking at the front door.

He only realized when he heard a familiar voice yelling his name.

“Alhaitham! Open up! Let me in now!”

And as usual , it was Kaveh.

Alhaitham got up, and walked to the door, opening it and letting the other man inside.

Alhaitham looked at the clock. Two in the morning.

“You’re home awfully late.”

“It’s cold! I forgot my keys again, and you just left me outside! In the cold! You’re so mean!” As Kaveh spoke, his words began to slur together.

Alhaitham replied sternly. “I was busy. Besides, what the hell were you doing out this late?”

“That’s none of your business.”

Kaveh walked past, and Alhaitham suddenly noticed a strong scent of alcohol.

“Kaveh. Were you out drinking again?”

The awful smell, combined with the way Kaveh spoke his words was a dead giveaway. He was drunk, again.

“No.”

Kaveh’s eyes began to well with tears, as he walked away. Yet another obvious sign.

“Come on, Kaveh. It’s okay to tell the truth. Let’s sit down on the sofa and relax.”

Alhaitham took Kaveh’s hand, guiding the blonde, as he stumbled across the room. As they sat down, tears began to fall down Kaveh’s cheeks.

“Kaveh, what’s wrong?”

Kaveh paused for a second before he broke down.

“I- I miss my mom.. and my dad.. why can’t everything just be okay again..” Kaveh sobbed, trying to hide his face. He was embarrassed to be in such a vulnerable state.

Kaveh continued to cry, but then felt a warm embrace surrounding him, as Alhaitham pulled him into a hug, only causing him to sob louder.

“It’s not fair.. I- I-“

“Shhh, it’s okay. I’m here. I’m here for you, Kaveh.”

Alhaitham spoke calmly, and drew soft, gentle circles around Kaveh’s back. He could feel his lovers tears staining his shoulder, but he didn’t mind. Although one wouldn’t assume so at first glance, Alhaitham really did care for Kaveh. It was painful to hear Kaveh cry as he gasped for air.

Alhaitham pulled from the hug, gently taking Kaveh’s face in his hands. Kaveh looked up at Alhaitham with his big eyes, struggling for air, as heavy tears continued to fall. Alhaitham used his thumb to wipe them away, softly stroking Kaveh’s cheeks.

“Just breathe, darling, it’s okay. I know it’s hard. I know. Just breathe. I’m here.”

Kaveh took deep, but shaky breaths as he attempted to calm himself. He could barely hold eye contact, looking away at the other side of the room.

Alhaitham rested Kaveh’s face against the crook of his neck, and began to softly comb through his long hair.

“Good. Just relax. I’m here. I’m right here. It’s going to be okay.”

They sat together like that for a long while, Alhaitham whispering sweet nothings, playing with Kaveh’s hair as he cried.

Sure, his lover could appear pretentious and stubborn at times, but deep down, Kaveh knows that Alhaitham truly cares about him.

Once Kaveh had calmed down, Alhaitham stood up, taking Kaveh’s hand in his once again.

“Shall we get ready for bed? I can help you, if it’s too hard.”

Kaveh tried to stand up, but stumbled over his own feet.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

Alhaitham led Kaveh to the bedroom, hand in hand.

Kaveh sat on the bed, as Alhaitham helped him take off his dirty, stained clothes. Kaveh remained quiet. His personality while intoxicated was certainly different from the typical Kaveh that Alhaitham knew.

Afterwards, Alhaitham ran him a bath, gently washing Kaveh’s hair and body. Kaveh still remained quiet, and closed his eyes, trying his best to relax after his long day.

After Kaveh was all clean, the two were quietly laying together in bed.

“Alhaitham?” Kaveh spoke softly

“Hm?”

“Do you really love me?”

“Of course I do, Kaveh.”

“Would you ever leave me?”

“Only if you left first.”

Kaveh giggled.

“I love you.”

Alhaitham pressed a soft kiss onto Kaveh’s forehead.

“I know you do. Now let’s get some sleep.”

They both were exhausted and fell asleep, holding onto one another.
