A cry for attention

Summary:

Luz likes to hug all her friends. When Amity starts hanging out more often with Luz, she considers her a friend now. However, Amity is not used to physical attention.

Notes:

Heyo! Surprisingly, I didn't write an agere fic! I love writing those but I think I need a break from them. So I watched some TOH episodes and got motivated to write some Lumity! Also, I'll try to be posting a lot this week since I'm going to a sleep-away camp next week where they don't allow phones! (Don't worry, I printed out some fanfics for me to read)

Work Text:

Luz had just been dropped off by Eda and king. Caffeine was flowing through Luz's body since Eda stole a Boba maker and ingredients from the human realm. Luz was extra hyper and excited for a new day of learning. She saw her friends, Willow and gus outside in the school yards.

"Hello, my wonderful friends!" She came running to them and rocked back and forth on her heels.

"Hey, Luz! You seem happy," Willow pointed out.

"Well, it's Friday! The weekend is near, I get to see my friends, and I get to learn some more cool magic today!" She listed off, getting more theatrical with every word. What can she say? She's a theater kid by heart.

"Those are good reasons. Yay, learning!" Gus cheered as he ran towards the doors.

"I better go follow him. See you later, Luz!" Willow ended, running after him.

Luz smiled. It was gonna be a good day. Maybe she can even hang out with Amity! Speaking of the witch, Amity came into her view. She seemed a bit sulky, but still her casual, numb self.

So Luz decided to surprise her friend. They had started hanging out more often since Willow's memories were destroyed so technically they were considered friends. It was interesting to see how Amity was when she wasn't so focused on school. Surprisingly, she was really dorky and a complete nerd. Luz saw how Amity was starting to open up with her (she had caught her stimming a few times which she barely did around others). It was really fun to see this new Amity. So she assumed it was safe to tap her on the shoulder from behind.

"Good morni-" her words got cut off by Amity rapidly turning around and lightly slapping away her hand. Once she realized it was just Luz, she quickly apologized.

"Oh my titan, I'm so sorry, Luz. You just… surprised me," Amity explained.

Luz, not being hurt at all by the slap (emotionally and physically) just smiled it off.

"Don't sweat it," she replied.

That wording made Amity confused. 'How can she tell I'm sweating?! Why does she have to look so cute' she thought to herself. She adjusted her collar to make it less hot.

"I- uhh, anyways! How are you this morning?" She cleared her throat, trying to defuse the awkwardness.

"I'm great! Especially now that I get to see my awesome friend! What about you?" Luz turned the conversation topic towards Amity.

"Oh, I'm… fine. Just a rough morning," she tried to brush it off with a nervous chuckle. Luz wasn't really buying it but figured she'd ask about it later because that's probably a story for another fic (haha fourth wall break).

Before Luz could come up with a response, the bell screamed, signaling that students had 10 more minutes to get to homeroom or they'll be tardy.

"That's the bell, I better get going," Amity turned around to leave but Luz stopped her.

"Wait!" She said, making Amity halt in her tracks. Before she could do anything, Luz wrapped her arms around Amity's fragile frame. This was unexpected and caught Amity off guard. All these new emotions came rushing by her. This wasn't like the first time Luz hugged her though. This felt different, more comforting.

Without any warning, Amity's vision began to blur, tears forming in her eyes and started to soak Luz's cowl. She tied her arms around Luz's waist, the feeling of love was getting very overwhelming for her.

Luz hadn't realized what was going on and tried to pull away from the hug, only for Amity to tighten her grasp. That's when Luz noticed the tears starting to soak up her cowl.

"Woah, hey, Amity, what's wrong?" She asked in a calm, soothing voice. However, no response was given. Amity only buried her face further into Luz's shoulder. She hadn't been hugged like this in such a long time. It felt intense, overwhelming, and loving. She couldn't even recall the last time she's been hugged by her mother or father.

Luz was, to say the least, very confused on what had just happened. She had no clue why her friend was crying and why she didn't let go. But she tried to help out, even though she didn't know what was wrong.

"Hey, I'm gonna move us onto the bench, you don't need to let go," Luz whispered into her ear before walking with her towards the bench. She lifted Amity up and placed her onto her lap so they could still be hugging closely and comfortably.

Luz tried soothing the girl. She rubbed her back as she lightly sobbed into her shoulder. She whispered,

"It's okay, just let it out, you're doing good. Everything will be alright,"

Luz thought her ribs were going to get bruised by how hard Amity was gripping her. It was like she was the only thing keeping her from flying off the ground.

After a couple minutes passed and weird stares from late students, Amity's sobs died down and she broke away from the hug. She became a bit flustered when she realized she was sitting on Luz's lap and moved to sit on the bench.

"Are you okay with telling me what happened?" Luz inquired, rubbing Amity's shoulders with a look of concern and worry.

Amity hesitated for a couple of seconds before answering her.

"I haven't been hugged like that in so long…" her voice cracked halfway through her sentence. She brought up her knees to her chest and resting her head on them.

"Not even your parents?" Amity shook her head to Luz's question.

Luz felt so sorry for her. She never knew Amity was neglecting physical attention. And it wasn't even her fault either.

"Well, that's going to change. I'm here and I have all the free hugs you could ask for. Whenever you feel like you need one, or a shoulder to cry on, I'll be here for you," Luz promised.

"Thank you, Luz. You are such an amazing friend," Amity complimented, resting her head on Luz's shoulder.

"You're welcome, Ams. Also, I don't mean to rush or anything, but homeroom starts in 5 minutes," Luz informed her, showing her watch.

"Yeah, we should probably get going." Amity slid off the bench, Luz following her.

The walked up the stairs and in the hallway together. Luz wanted to show how much she truly care about her friend and didn't want to leave her side. However, they had to split up for homeroom, so Luz just walked Amity to her class before going to her own. Luckily, they planned to meet at the owl house after school so they could talk more about what happened.
