"Come on, Roman. We'll be late for the production," Logan said softly as he knelt down and booped his son's nose.
Roman put both hands over his nose and smiled back. "Okay, Papa!" The little prince put his stuffed bear in his backpack, and held his father's hand while they crossed the street.
They'd just been to the planetarium which was a special tradition they had every year. Roman enjoyed the legends playing through his ears while his dad pointed at the magnificent models of constellations shining above them.
Logan and Roman had reached Broadway, but had a little bit more time to spend before the show, so they found a small, nearby café and stepped in line to order. While they waited for their turn, Logan knelt down again and asked Roman what his favorite part of that day was.
"I really liked when you told me we were going to see Into the Woods!"
Logan laughed softly. "Of course. What else did you enjoy about today?"
"Well, I was super happy when you got me the teddy bear! It's really soft, and I can take him on any adventure I go on!"
Logan smiled with pride. "That's right."
They continued talking about the day they had when the bell at the door chimed.
"Do my eyes deceive me? Is that Logan Sanders I see before me?"
Both Logan and Roman turned to the direction of the voice. They spotted a spritely man with rounded glasses, many freckles, and brown, curly hair.
"Patton?" Logan stood and adjusted his glasses. "Why, it's been quite some time since I've seen you!" He grinned.
"No kidding!" He gasped. "Speaking of kids, is this Roman?" He crouched down and ruffled the six-year-old's hair. "I remember when you were just a small lil' guy. You've grown so much!"
Roman grew shy as his cheeks were dusted with red. "Hi..." His voice came out just above a whisper.
Patton's heart nearly stopped. This kiddo was one of the cutest things he'd ever seen. "Aw, I must be Snow White, because you certainly are Bashful." He laughed.
Roman beamed at the Disney reference, and laughed too, even if it was a tad quiet.
"I'm gonna need to start chatting with you about Disney movies soon, lil' prince." Patton stood up and aimed his direction at Logan, whom had been smiling the whole time. "He's gonna rule the world."
"I know." He looked down at his son. "I know."
Patton grinned. "So, what brings you here?"
"I could ask the same to you. I thought you were out writing for the paper," Logan replied genuinely and curiously.
"Well, I am! I'm actually here to bring the office some snacks. We're celebrating, well... me getting a promotion! It's gonna help me out a lot, ya know, with Remus and the apartment." Patton proudly stated.
Logan raised his eyebrows in amazement. "That's incredible, Patton. Congratulations! How is Remus, by the way?"
"He's doing great! He's in kindergarten, and he's been following directions really well, which I'm so proud of. He's made a few close friends, and they ask to play with him all the time. Maybe we should schedule a day for Roman to swing by and meet him!" Patton stopped himself from saying that he wanted to spend some time with Logan as well.
"Well, I don't see why not," Logan answered, turning to the beaming boy holding his hand. "Does that sound alright with you?"
Roman just nodded as he bounced up and down on his toes.
He watched as the two grown-ups talked fluently back and forth as if they hadn't been away for the time that they were. Roman understood that Patton and Logan were never a couple, but he saw the sparks in their eyes when they saw each other. He was sure they'd end up being princes in love soon enough.
