Kagiura flying over to see his extended family during school break.. just got a whole lot more complicated.
The first out of many concerns that day was: he's never been alone on an airplane in his entire life.
When he travelled a couple of times as a kid with his family, it felt okay because he had them by his side.
Unfortunately, Kagiura was alone now. Which was fine, if it weren't for the unfamiliarity of flying so high in the air. It made him feel really nervous. It's still going to take some getting used to.
Kagiura fidgeted in his spot, showing his ticket to the front desk before boarding the plane with a heavy sigh. The rolling of the wheels on his luggage case echoed through the narrow walk way, making a small squeaky noise every time he turned to search for his seat.
At last, when he found it, he put his bag away securely and settled into his aisle chair. It wasn't the worst thing.. at least he was closer to the restroom this way and didn't have to look out the window all the time. Seeing the tiny ant houses might make him a lot more nervous. This was a short flight.. nothing big. He could do this. Yeah. It's okay. Totally fine.
Kagiura tilted his head up at the sound of someone's luggage halting in front of his seat. After that, it was like he had tunnel vision.
Oh... speaking of fine.
Where was he again?? All he could see was the most gorgeous guy he's ever laid eyes on. Light blonde hair, sparkly blue eyes, and... a very big frown.
"Hello?"
"O-Oh..! I'm sorry. I'll move over."
Yikes. Did he poke a bear? As handsome as he was, it wouldn't be fun if his neighbour hated him the whole flight.
"Nah it's fine, I just need to put my bag away first. Didn't want to startle you or anything by doing it without letting you know."
'Nevermind. Sweet, caring, and gorgeous.' .... 'Wait, that'd be great if I wasn't such a chicken right now. Now he's gonna think I'm a baby.' Kagiura thought, shifting slightly in his spot to watch him.
The mystery boy was grumbling to himself, trying to shift the bag around in the over-head cabinet so it'd correctly fit. It was a struggle though.
'This is my chance!' Kagiura slowly stood up to his feet and smiled warmly in his direction. The blonde looked at him curiously and was about to ask if he needed to get past him, but was interrupted at the last second.
"Do you need help with that?"
"Ah.. well, I'll manage. It's not like I'm short or anything."
"Yes but even then, it seems like a tight fit."
After a moment of silence, Kagi swiftly appeared beside him to support the smaller hand with his own, pushing the bag in place successfully. When they touched, it was like a warm fuzzy feeling fluttered in his stomach. And unbeknown to him, the feeling was mutual. "...Thanks."
"Mhm! Happy to help."
Kagiura thought he was hallucinating for a second, but as he looked a second longer, it struck him. Right after he said that, he unintentionally made him blush.
'I wasn't even flirting or anything. Is he the type to get embarrassed easily? Or feel happy when people help him out??'
Even if he wanted to think about it more, Kagiura's thoughts were interrupted when he realized they were holding up a small line of people trying to get past them.
"...I'll let you sit first." He shyly gestured to the seat and his offer was hurriedly accepted of course.
'I should keep my eyes to myself.' Despite that, the temptation grew to glance over. Since they sat so much closer now, Kagiura observed the sharpness of his jawline, to the flutter of his eyelashes as he blinked. Even the softness of his lips..-
'Okay, time to look away.'
Just as he did though, he felt a light tap on his arm.
"Hey."
"Oh! Hello!"
"Thanks again for the help.. uhm.."
"Kagiura. It's nice to meet you!"
"You too. I'm Hirano."
'Hirano...' Kagi was practically swooning just learning his name and how sweet it sounded to his ears.
For the next little while, conversation flowed naturally, so they shared a little about themselves.
Kagiura found out that his airplane buddy was a year older than him and that their schools are pretty close together.
To make it even wilder, the reason they headed in the same direction was because Kagi's extended family lived in the same neighbourhood as Hirano's close friends, Ichinose and his boyfriend.
He got so sucked into the moment that he completely forgot they were on an airplane, that is, until it started to slowly move.
Kagiura's shoulders tensed and he took a deep breath in, which alerted the blonde to look at him closely.
"Are you feeling okay, Kagiura-kun?"
Hirano made sure to speak softly, while thinking internally, 'I ought to shorten that name somehow.. It's a hassle to say the whole thing. I'll make a nickname later if he's okay with it.'
"Hmm? Yeah, I'm absolutely fine. What makes you think I'm not?" Kagiura laughed nervously, but it was still obvious that it was a lie. He cared too much about how cool he looked in front of his dazzling seat-mate.
"Oi.. you don't have to put on a brave face. I don't really care about that sort of thing, personally." His words were sweet and partially successful in calming him.. But then the plane started to move a little faster.
'Spoke too soon.' Kagiura thought, clenching the arm rest of the seats to the point where his knuckles turned white.
Hirano didn't say anything. He was debating the best course of action when the plane began to rock back and forth. But funnily enough, the person who ended up more spooked was Hirano, when Kagiura grabbed hold of his hand to stable himself.
Taking a deep breath and maintaining his composure, he leaned forward to check on his new puppy eyed friend. "You look really pale.. do airplanes freak you out?" No response. The rumbling sound of the airplane was far too loud and so were Kagiura's thoughts.
"N-No.."
Hirano turned to face him and quirked a brow, not convinced in the slightest. "You don't seem confident in your response."
"I'm just not used to flying and I haven't travelled alone before."
"Hmm.. I see." Right after those words left his lips, the plane began to speed up for take off and the grip on him got a lot tighter. Instinctively, he overlapped his other hand on top of Kagiura's, gently, as an attempt to help soothe him.
"Wh..?" Kagiura finally looked over, and suddenly the airplane's noises were dethroned by the volume of his heartbeat. It was easily a million times louder than this.
"It'll be okay." The soft voice of his seat neighbour tickled his ear. If there was an attempt to speak to him from a distance, he wouldn't have heard him. So the decision to lean closer was a clever move, albeit flustering for Kagi.
Since he felt like this was the prettiest person he'd ever seen in his life.. mere inches away.
The worst of it was starting to subside, with the plane finally leveling out, and Kagi loosened his grip a bit. "S-Sorry about your hand." He was embarrassed, since he had just met the guy, and now he felt as if he ruined any first impressions.
Before he could make a move to pull away, Hirano shook his head. "Don't worry about it. You can hold onto it as long as you want."
"...Okay."
It was a little selfish but he definitely held on longer than he had to.
Although it was reassuring when he felt the gentle squeeze on his hand every once and a while.

"Hirano-san..?"
Huh. The way Kagiura said his name was as if he was singing a song. It glided off his tongue in just the right way.
Maybe it was because his adorable voice made his heart skip a beat when he first talked to him. (He would deny it if anyone asked).
Hirano always had a fascination with airplanes. He had been on many but.. being seated next to a puppy eyed boy, clinging onto him as a way to comfort himself, was a really adorable way to spend his trip. This might be his favourite flight ever.
"I think I'm okay now. It's just the take off that freaks me out a bit but I think I'll get used to it."
"Well.. I'm glad you're doing better." Hirano reluctantly let go of his hand, but kept it on the arm rest between them, in case Kagi needed it again.
"S-So.. um.." Kagiura entertained himself by tapping the buttons on the screen in front of him. "There's more movies on this flight.. that's cool."
Hirano chuckled and leaned closer to check out what he was looking at. "You like animated movies? Is that what you were looking at?"
"I do sometimes. The storylines can be really heartwarming so..!"
"Hmm.. I see."
"Did.. you want to watch one with me?" Kagiura offered an earbud, with hopeful puppy dog eyes looking up at him. He really couldn't resist. This guy was just too cute.
"I'd like that actually."
"Really?"
"Mhm. Pick whatever you want."
"Okayy.. let's see~" Kagi hummed in concentration while browsing each movie, bouncing a little in his seat happily when he found one.
Hirano tried his hardest to not stare but it was becoming increasingly difficult by the minute. That is, until he was snapped out of his trance.
"Oh! Maybe this?"
He pointed to a movie that read 'How to Train Your Dragon.'
"I haven't seen this one since I was a kid.. so I barely remember."
"Hmm same here. That sounds good." That was a small lie. Hirano had an obsession with dragons and had seen it maybe hundreds of times, but who's counting, really?
The two of them began the movie, occasionally smiling and laughing at some of the things the character's would say. Whenever Kagi's face would light up in delight, the happiness was contagious. So much so that Hirano was guilty of looking over at the adorable boy next to him instead of watching the screen, more times than once.
"Hey Hirano-san.."
Kagiura pointed out to 'Toothless' the dragon on the screen, "You kinda look like him.."
"Hah!?"
"It's the eyes. I mean.. you came off as a little intimidating at first, but when you smile, you glow just like that."
A foreign feeling filled Hirano's chest. His skin tingled with warmth at the unexpected compliment, and for some reason, it felt different when his adorable new friend said it. If he could even call him that.
"S-Sorry..!" Kagiura backpedaled after Hirano grew quiet, frantically waving his hands. "I didn't mean that in a weird way, I just..-"
"It's fine. I appreciated it anyway." Hirano smiled reassuringly and patted his arm. But just as they were about to make more jokes, a sudden announcement rang through the airplane.
That's when Kagiura knew, this trip was going to get a lot more interesting than planned.

"How long are we stuck?" All of the passengers were stunned by the news that their flight had taken an detour, due to stormy weather and unsafe flying conditions. They didn't know how long they'd have to wait for the next flight. But by some miracle, they were able to get rooms in a hotel for the night at least.
Well.. a single room, actually.
"Is this really okay with you?" Kagiura rolled his luggage along with him, as he followed Hirano inside the building like a lost puppy.
"Yeah. It seems unfair for me to take that room when you're lying in the airport all night with that sad pout of yours."
Just as expected, Kagiura puffed up his cheeks in retaliation. "I'm not a baby, Hirano-san."
"Mmmhm. That's what babies say."
"Hirano-saaaaan~" He whined and then snapped out of his playful mood, after realizing they approached the hotel counter.
The two politely greeted the nice lady and observed their surroundings, while she was looking at them with knowing smiles.
"You two look like such a sweet couple."
"H-Huh!?"
Kagiura instantly turned into a tomato, while Hirano calmly stood there listening. "Thank you."
"HUH!?"
"What? It's a compliment isn't it? That means we already get along super well."
Kagiura blinked in disbelief, shamelessly staring at the blonde until he collected their room key and began to walk towards the elevator. "U-Uh-"
"Are you coming along or..?"
"I am!!"

Kagiura figured he felt attracted towards Hirano. But it's unbelievable how fast he grew fond of him in just one plane ride.
The intensity of the feeling and fluttering of his heart was overwhelming. Call him a hopeless romantic but he had a gut feeling that they were meant to meet. And just the thought of sharing the same room...
"I'll take the floor." Kagiura immediately knelt down with some pillows and blankets tucked in between his arms. But before he could fully settle in, Hirano hurriedly followed and gently tugged on his arm.
"No I'm taking it."
"Why? It's the least I could do for repaying your kindness and letting me stay with you!"
"Oi, it isn't a big deal. Everything feels less stressful with someone like you being with me anyway."
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say that sounded like you're flirting with me.." Kagiura voiced his thought out loud with a childish pout, which prompted Hirano to tilt his head in confusion.
"Huh?"
"O-OH uhm-" Kagi directed his eyes elsewhere, beyond flustered at his slip up.
To make matters worse, Hirano didn't let it go.
He shifted fully onto the floor, where both of their pillows and blankets laid forgotten. "Flirting? You think I flirted with you? In a.. romantic.. way?"
"U-Uhm-"
"I don't know much about that stuff. The mushy romantic stuff, I mean. But if you're into me in that way, I'm not judging you if that's what you're nervous about."
The sincerity in his voice caught Kagiura off guard and his ears started to turn bright red. "W-Well that's not exactly..! Uhm.. can we just change the subject?"
"Okay." He raised an eyebrow at that but didn't push any further, despite his curiosity.
"So, Hirano-san, should we play a game to decide who sleeps on the bed?"
"We don't have to do all that. If you feel bad about taking the bed, we could just sleep there together."
"T-T-Together?"
Again, he couldn't form words in response. "Oh, my bad. If you're okay with that."
"I am okay with it but, uhm.. it wouldn't be weird for you?"
"Why would it be weird?" Hirano was genuinely confused. "We were napping next to eachother on the plane for a little while."
"True.." After careful consideration, Kagiura tossed his pillow up and pulled himself onto the bed.
"Finally. I thought I was going to have to drag you there." There was a teasing tone in Hirano's voice, which made Kagi's stomach stir again.
"Heyy~ You're making me sound like a pain."
The blonde began to climb into the sheets after him with an amused smile on his face. "Aren't you?"
"Hmph."
"I didn't say I had a problem with it though."
"Flirting again.."
The sudden comment from his handsome friend caught him off guard and the one foot, that was planted firmly onto the ground, started to slip.
Kagiura took notice of it right away and reached forward, gently grabbing hold of his waist to keep him steady.
"Careful!! You could've fallen off the bed backwards."
"...."
"Hirano-san, are you listening??"
Just when Kagi swooped in to save him, Hirano instantly reached out to hold him, with one of his hands resting on his chest.
"...."
"Is everything okay? You're not hurt, are you?"
"Do you work out? Your muscles are insane."
"I-I... what???" Kagiura's eyes travelled down to his smaller hand and took notice of how it stayed glued in the same spot.
"Just wondering. I could tell you probably do." Hirano casually smoothed his hand back up to rest on his shoulder.
"Yeah I do.." He blinked in confusion, "If it was only that, why did you keep your hand there for so long!? Do you get this touchy with all your guy friends?"
"Hell no."
"Then? I'm special?" Kagi's eyes sparkled at the realization, only to immediately be shot down.
"You caught me when I fell. It's not like it was intentional."
"Oookay whatever you say!"
Hirano quirked his brow and began to question himself and his actions, 'I was just curious.. is it that bad to appreciate someone's figure? I don't see how it could be a problem.' He thought.
"A-Anyways, uhm," Kagiura shifted to his side of the bed, tucking himself under the blankets again. "Goodnight."
"Oh right. We should get some rest now." As if on cue, the blonde let out a quiet yawn.
It was a simple sound, but still the cutest thing Kagi had heard. His messy hair and half lidded eyes reminded him of a sleepy cat.
"Y-You're really pretty."
"Hmm?" Hirano was just settling into bed, with the side of his head resting on his pillow.
"Your hair colour compliments your eyes and.." Kagi exhaled softly, tilting his head as if he was in a trance, and shifted a little closer to him on the mattress. "You're just really beautiful."
Hirano's heart started to race for reasons unbeknownst to him. It was odd how one simple compliment made his ears so hot. He really had no idea what that meant. All he knew is that hearing such sweet words made him feel so much joy.
It became a regular occurrence for people to fear him or make assumptions based on his looks.
Despite his confidence in how freakin cool he was (dragon patterned clothes and all), sometimes it got to him. He'd catch himself thinking not so nice things about himself, especially at late hours in the night.
But somehow, with Kagiura by his side, he felt himself being filled with confidence yet again.
"Really?"
"Mhm, really!"
"I could say the same for you. You're exceptionally handsome."
Kagiura giggled and winked playfully. "Oh? Thanks!"
"So I'm guessing you're popular?"
"Welllll, kinda, yeah. I told you I'm a basketball player in my school, right? A lot of people know me from that, but sometimes the attention can be a little much."
"Hmmm, yeah I see what you mean. Can't really relate though since I have a handful of friends."
"Well there's nothing wrong with that! Surprisingly enough, I only have two close friends. Niibashi and Miyano. They're the best~"
"Miyano?" Hirano blinked in confusion, piecing some things together in his head. "Yoshikazu Miyano?"
"Y-Yeah! How did you know?"
"So you're the sporty friend he talks about.." He sighed in amusement at the coincidence (or maybe it was more than that). "We were in the Disciplinary Committee together in high school."
"You were!?? So... you’re the 'delinquent blonde uke'?"
Hirano nearly choked on the air at the sudden comment, "There's no fucking way he calls me that."
"He doesn't! ...often."
"Dammit. I would find him and kill him if it weren't for his boyfriend being his bodyguard."
"I don't think he meant it seriously. He just gets passionate about his manga! You know how it is."
"Tch. Yeah I get it-"
A rumbling noise from outside of their room made Kagi flinch in surprise, "The storm out there’s getting louder."
"Hmm? Are you scared of storms?"
"Not really! They just startle me a bit from the noise and it's hard to fall asleep."
"I see. Well, if you need a pillow to hug, I have an extra."
"Wha?"
"You seem like you'd hug stuffed animals at night."
"Heyyy~" Kagiura pouted, even though he was kinda right, "That's really nice of you but it's going to be hard to get myself to sleep."
"Hmm." He nodded slowly, freezing slightly when he met Kagi's unwavering gaze.
"But having you beside me is really comforting too. We only talked for a day but I feel like I've known you for a long time."
It was true. Kagi never thought he'd say this, but he was looking forward to the next flight back, if there was a possibility they could sit together again.
Hearing him adorably ramble about planes for 20 minutes made his appreciation for it grow a little more.
"Oh?" Hirano chuckled at his sweetness, finding him beyond adorable. "I got that feeling too. We should really meet up again after we get back home from our travels."
'After we get back home..'
"Oi, Kagi-kun, what's that goofy smile for?"
"Nothing~"
"...."
"Hey uhm, Hirano-san? Can I hold your pinky?"
"Huh?"
"Instead of the stuffed animals, maybe that'd help.."
"Pft. Sure."
