We Need To Talk

Summary:

July 11 – Day 1 Chenford Week 23 – Inspired by canon

This is based off the last Chenford scene in season 5 episode 8.

Anyone else wonder what Lucy wanted to talk about when she walked over to Tim? Well, here is my version of what I would have liked her to say to him.

Lucy: Hey, we need to talk?

Tim: What’s going on? Everything okay?

Lucy: Tim, what happened today it, cannot happen again.

Notes:

My favorite Season 5 moment was when they finally confessed their feeling to each other, but I still wonder what it is Lucy meant when she said to Tim - Hey, we need to talk.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Hey, We Need To Talk

July 11 – Day 1 Chenford Week 23 – Inspired by canon

This is based off the last Chenford scene in season 5 episode 8.

Anyone else wonder what Lucy wanted to talk about when she walked over to Tim? Well, here is my version of what I would have liked her to say to him.

Lucy: Hey, we need to talk?

Tim: What’s going on? Everything okay?

Lucy: Yeah

Tim: Okay, so then what do we need to talk about?

Lucy: Tim, what happened today it, cannot happen again.

Tim: What are you talking about? What happened today?

Lucy: You were treating me like you like me.

Tim: Why not?

Lucy: I think you know the answer to that Tim.

Tim: Lucy, if Chris can’t handle you working with another man than maybe he isn’t the man for you.

Lucy: This has nothing to do with Chris.

Tim: So, you broke up with him?

Lucy: Tim!

Tim: What? This clearly isn’t working out. I don’t know why you won’t just admit it. Is it guilt? Or is it because you are scared?

Lucy: Why are you asking me this?

Tim: Lucy, this needs to be spoken about

Lucy: Fine, maybe, but you have no right to talk to me about any of this.

Tim: Excuse me?

Lucy: Tim I cannot talk to you anymore about my love life, not Chris, not anyone.

Tim: Hold up, what exactly is happening here Lucy?

Lucy: You really don’t get it, do you?

Tim: Apparently not. So, clue me in. What’s going on?

Lucy: When Grey paired us up together today, why didn’t you want to ride with me?

Tim: Lucy,

Lucy: I'll tell you why, you didn’t want me in the car with you today because you don’t like me Tim.

Tim: Lucy

Lucy: It's okay Tim, I get it. My last day as a rookie, the apartment, the airplane bathroom, it's just basic biology Tim. I know that. I get it, but it doesn’t mean that every time you treat me like you can’t stand me or when you tell me to move on it hurts any less.

Tim: Lucy, please.

Lucy: No Tim, I’m going to tell Sargent Grey that I don’t ever want to work with you anymore.

Tim: What? No!

Lucy: Tim! Enough! You can’t keep doing this to me, one minute treating me like your girlfriend and the next acting like the thought of me being next to you is torture. You know how I feel about you Tim, you’ve known for 2 years I have never been subtle about it, and I can’t force you to feel the same.

Tim: Stop. Stop telling me what to do or how I'm supposed to feel Lucy. Look, you asked me why I didn’t want to ride with you earlier. Lucy, the only reason I didn’t want you sitting in the car next to me today is because I knew if you were there that I was going to say or do something that we would both regret. I didn’t trust myself to be professional with you when it was just the two of us alone in the shop.

Lucy: What are you talking about?

Tim: Lucy, the feelings, they aren’t one sided.

Lucy: Tim, please, you don’t need to say that just because you think that is what I want to hear.

Tim: I’m not Lucy. I’m saying it because it is true.

Lucy: No, it's not Tim, you hate me.

Tim: Lucy, I don’t know how after everything we have been through together you could even possibly believe that.

Lucy turned her head away from Tim, her heart was breaking, and she was just so confused. She knew this conversation wouldn’t be easy, but she also knew that after the way they had each responded to Chris’s desire to move in with her that they had to talk about it. Lucy had hoped that Tim would make this easy on her, but sitting here now, hearing him tell her that the feelings were mutual were making her want to throw up.

Tim: Lucy, look at me please. I don’t hate you; I’ve never hated you. Quite the opposite actually, I like you Lucy a lot and I really thought you knew that.

Lucy: If what you're saying is true, and you really do have feelings for me then why did you tell me that it’s time for me to move on?

Tim: I wasn't talking about you moving on from me Lucy, it was a great opportunity for you. I thought you understood that.

Lucy: You and I almost hooked up for real and then you went and told me to go away for 6 weeks Tim, it felt like you were breaking up with me, you broke my heart and now you want me to believe that you actually have feelings for me.

Tim: I’m sorry. I never intended for you to feel like that.

Lucy: Really? Because when I got back you didn’t even look at me.

Tim: I didn't know what to say Lucy.

Lucy: And now you do?

Tim: No, Lucy I don’t!

Lucy: Why not?

Tim: What do you want me to say? That I am okay with you working a different shift than me? Cuz I'm so not okay with it.

Lucy: Tim. I just can’t come and work this close to you every day knowing that you want to be with someone else.

Tim: So that makes us even

Lucy: What are you talking about?

Tim: I don’t want you to move in with Chris because I want you to move in with me.

Lucy: What did you just say?

Tim: Lucy, I thought I made myself clear, but I guess I will say it again. Lucy, I don’t want you to call Chris your boyfriend, I want to be your boyfriend. Lucy, I go to bed every night hoping that tomorrow will be the day I wake up in bed next to you, because Lucy every time I look at you and the rest of the world just goes away. I love you Lucy, I know I haven’t always shown it or said it, but it’s always been you.

Lucy’s heart felt like it was going to explode. The words she had hoped to one day Tim say to her were right now being said and she was once again regretting that they were sitting in a public place in the garden of the police station.

Lucy: I love you too Tim!

Tim leaned in as he so badly wanted to kiss her, right here in the most perfect moment, but she just looked at him with all the love in the world and placed her hand on top of his. Tim stood up and took her hand in his and they walked together to his truck. They drove to Tim’s house in silence, each one in their own thoughts. When they got inside, they put their stuff down, Tim got 2 drinks from the fridge, and they sat down on the couch.

Tim: I really want to kiss you right now Lucy, but I also want to do this right.

Lucy leaned in and kissed Tim with everything she had. This kiss meant so much to both of them. Tim deepened and savored every second of it. Eventually Lucy pulled away desperate for air.

Lucy: That was incredible.

Tim: That’s because you are incredible Lucy.
