Chapter 1: The First Relationship (1/2)

Chapter Text

North Wind, compared to his family, has quite the shocking history when it comes to his love life. Snow Miser would be considered a rent boy to common mortals, and Heat Miser, although not a seeker of love, he did spend some of his years with someone else, the rest of his siblings were somewhere in between that. North Wind though, wasn't very experienced in relationships. It wasn't just his nasty personality that people avoided him for, but he actively chose to avoid such interactions himself. There's a lot about him that most people do not know, some of those secrets that he hid from the others below him were reasons why, but mainly because the one relationship he had been in... wasn't what he expected.

Purple wasn't their name, but it's what they went by. For whatever reason, that never shared their real name with him. Although he pleaded with them to tell him, with the promise that he would keep it a secret, they always refused to share it. After a while, he stopped trying to search for it, beginning to assume that there must've been an important reason why they hid it from him, but it didn't occur to him to find out that reason why. After he dropped it, he thought being with them was bliss. He found the secretive nature of their nature exciting, although he wished to share it with the world, they didn't want that. They always said they were never ready, and he respected their decision, so he was the only soul that knew about this between them. He wanted to spend every moment with them, but he couldn't hide with them all the time, so often days, he was away.

Maybe it was the fact that he still had moments with only his thoughts and himself during all of it, or perhaps it was the fact that they were never public, but North Wind began to realise how lonely he felt, even with them. He slowly noticed parts of their behaviour that he never picked up on before, seeing that they only approached him when they were needy, when they wanted something with or from him. He kept his realisations to himself though, as he couldn't share them with Purple, definitely not, if they were wrong, Purple would be hurt, and possibly leave him. He didn't want that.

When the night got dark, and made the sky purple, the moon being bright enough to still see. The night that Purple said those words. North expected this to happen eventually, but not so soon. Not like this, he knew he had no love left for them, but he still wanted them to stay, at least that's what he thought. Once their conversation ended, he knew he never wanted anything like this again.

"We Should Break Up." Purple's voice was passionless, and there was no sign of Purple's emotions in that sentence. "Okay." North replied back, with a similar tone.

"Okay?"
"Okay."
"Just Like That?" Purple asks, take aback at North's calm demeanour.
"What Do You Want Me To Do?" He faces Purple, a stern look painted his face.
"I... I Don't Know, I Just... I Wasn't Expecting 'OKAY'."
"What? You Want Me To Plead You To Stay?"
"No, It Just Seems Like You're Throwing This All Away."
"I'M Throwing It All Away?" North's sternness turned into annoyance.

"Yeah, It's Like You Don't Even Care."
"You're The One Who Wanted To Break Up With Me. How's This My Fault?"
"You're Not Even Willing To Fight For Us?"
"Fight For What? There Is No Us In This." He Perses His Lips Before Continuing.
"What You Really Mean Is You Want Me To Fight With YOU."

A low groan escaped Purple's throat. "Change My Mind. Make Me Believe in Us Again."
"How Am I Supposed To Do That? How Is This My Responsibility?" North Wind retorted back to Purple.
"You Decide If We Should Stay Together." Purple demands from him.
"You Already Decided. I'm Respecting Your Decision."
"I'll Take It Back If You Say So. Just Say The Word."
"Why Would I Want To Stay With Someone Who Wanted To Break Up?"

This isn't what Purple wanted from North.
"Just Reassure Me And I'll Forget."
North Wind was silent for a moment, leaving a big pause before his next words.
"...Have You Always Been This Desperate?"
"Desperate?!"
North Wind takes a breath in before continuing.
"Look, Why Do You Want To Break Up?"
"It Just Seems Like You Don't Care About Me."
"Why Do You Think That?"
"I Just Feel Like I Can't Get Close To You. You Always Push Me Away."
A pin dropped in North's mind, and he went from cross to annoyed.
"You're Not Taking Me Seriously, You're Not Taking Our Relationship Seriously. I'm Not Even Allowed To Know Your Name."
"You Never Asked."
"I Did! You Just Jumped To The Conclusion That I Didn't Care!"
"How Am I Not Supposed To Jump To These Conclusions?"

"Did You Want To Break Up With Me To See If I Cared?" North Wind asks Purple as he brings his knees to his chest. Purple didn't say anything. It frustrated North. "Why Didn't You Just Ask Me? Why'd You Test Me?" He turns his face away from Purple.
"What Do You Want Me To Ask You?" Purple inquiries.
"How Am I Supposed To Just Bring This Stuff Up?"
North Wind turns back to Purple, tears forming in his eyes.
"If You Thought Testing Me Was The Solution Instead Of Communicating, This Won't Work Out..."
Purple's eyes widened at this response. "So We're Actually Breaking Up?"
"You Wanted It First."
"I Wasn't Being Serious!"
North Wind's expression turns stern again, tears still threatening to fall.
"I Was." There was a gap of silence between them for a moment. Purple takes this as a sign to leave, and gets up before beginning to move away. Before Purple was out of range, North said one more thing. A tear slipped down his face as he looked away from them as he muttered the sentence. "I Hope You Find Someone Else To Be Your Test Subject." Purple blows hot air out of their nose before disappearing forever, leaving North there, by himself. It was over, it really was. Nothing felt like it had changed, once Purple was gone, but it was still over. He stayed there, and wiped the tears that invaded his face away, before going back inside. He never wanted something like that again.
