Work Text:
you ran across the street to stop me.
and i stared at your face,
tears
streaming down my face
as i ran.
why did it have to be you?
you werent there,
and with you,
you took all id ever known.
my hopes,
my dreams,
my love,
all taken by an unforseen consequence.
i look
through the magnifying glass,
trying,
trying to find evidence.
evidence of the truth,
evidence of my hypotheses,
evidence of your existence.
all while ignoring the true evidence
staring me right in the face.
the phone rings,
a constant buzz
in the background.
ignored, as i search harder for what i already know.
but when i see you again,
your messy hair,
your awkward smile,
your unsure gait,
your hesitant eyes,
are all clouded, as those very same eyes
dont recognise me for who i am.
for who i will be.
youre the exact opposite
of who i know you to be.
and the phone buzzes,
ive long since turned the ringer off.
a building and secret plans,
hidden inside a shoebox.
the long-awaited movie night,
and papers strewn across our place.
never to be again.
because were strangers,
and my life is a dream.
youre not beside me
as my shoes go back into the shoebox and i
barefoot, in socks,
stand on the building.
