Drunk in Love

Summary:

Tim doesn't get drunk very often. Lucy loves it when he does.

Written for Day 3 of Chenford Week 2023 - Something's Missing Day.

The something missing is a scene where Tim is a missing a couple of hours between leaving the bar and waking up.

Notes:

I hope you like my little bit of fluff, humour, fun and nice-ness. No angst. I'm not a good angst writer.
I imagine Tim being a very entertaining drunk.

Love you all x

To Lucy Chen
From Tim Bradford
Babe I’m being forced out for a quick drink with the Metro Boys. Today’s been a tough one.

Forced eh? Timothy Bradford letting someone twist his big biceps into making him do something he doesn’t want?

To Lucy Chen

Pah! Like that would ever happen. 😂

Really? Want to think about that ….

2 drink limit. We have that hike tomorrow. See you in a bit. x

Lucy was woken up from her slumber on the sofa by the soft knocking on the door. She glanced down at her phone. 11.36pm. Rubbing her neck, she unfolded herself and went to check the peephole. She could hear him before she could see him. “Luuuuucy. Baaaaby” came the hushed tones of one Metro Sergeant Timothy Bradford. Pissed.

Sniggering to herself with barely contained glee, Lucy opened the door to find Tim leaning against the frame, a bag of take away in his hand (how he’d managed that was anyone’s guess) and a big smile on his face. Even in a state of inebriation – of which Lucy could count having seen one other time in the year they’d been together - he looked beautiful. OK his eyes were looking a little pink and he smelt like a distillery, but he was beautiful. And all hers. Whiskey aroma and all.

“There she is! My gorgeous, gorgeous girlfriend.” Tim’s soppy smile seemed to grow wider when he saw her. “ How’d that 2 drink limit work out for you, babe?” Lucy matched his grin. “We made a tactical decision to get shots. I don’t like blow jobs.” “Errrrrrrrm I think I’m actually speechless right now Tim. We have neighbours please come inside …. What the actual fuck are you talking about? Since when??”.

Tim came through the door pretty much having a conversation with himself “Cameron made me do it. I don’t even like Baileys. Why are they called Blow Jobs?”. Lucy closed her eyes and nodded to herself. Of course. Blow Job Shots. “Babe it’s because of the creamy Bailey’s stuff they put on them and you gulp them down in one. You don’t even like Baileys. How many did you do?”

“ Couple… I think, ” Tim sat heavily on the sofa and attempted to kick his boots off at the heel, his bag of mystery take away lying forgotten on the kitchen counter already. Lucy knelt down to help him where he was clearly struggling with his laces. She felt a warm hand caressing the side of her face. “I love you,” Tim whispered to the top of her head. “I love Lucy. Yes. I. Do. Am I meant to tell you that?” Lucy tried her hardest not to giggle as she placed his boots next to the sofa, where he hopefully wouldn’t trip over them and looked back at him, returning the gesture with a soft rub of his jaw and a gentle kiss to his lips. “Yes babe, we have done the I Love You’s. You’re quite safe. I love you too.” Tim grinned up at her. Even through the haze of alcohol, Lucy could see the adoration for her written on his face and her heart clenched.

“Do you think a big glass of water and some headache pills would be a good idea before we put you to bed, Sarge?” She looked up but Tim was now too busy routing through his pockets for keys and change and putting them on top of the coffee table in front of him. “Yes Lucy. What an excellent idea that is … because I am faaaar too drunk to be making good decisions for myself,” Lucy said, nodding to herself, as she went to find the medicine box in the bathroom and fish out some tablets.

Grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, she headed back out to the living room. “Come on baby. Take these,” she handed the white pills to him and he took the bottle and swallowed them. “Drink the rest and then let’s go to bed.” Lucy felt an arm sneaking around her waist, as she stood in front of him and Tim rested his head against her stomach. She ruffled her fingers through his short blonde strands and gave a gentle tug. “No falling asleep here, babe. Bed. Come on.” “Oooh I like that idea. I like that idea a lot,” Tim looked up with his eyes closed and hummed to himself. “I don’t think you’re in any state Romeo,” Lucy laughed, as she watched him stumble towards their bedroom. She carried on doing her safety checks for the night, front door shut, gas off, car keys by the door ready to go if needed and she put his cold take away in the fridge. She could hear Tim making a lot more noise than usual in the bathroom and she flicked the living room light off and made her way to the en-suite to see what he was doing. She was impressed, he’d actually managed to strip his own clothes off and was stood clad in his boxers brushing his teeth with his eyes closed. Swaying slightly leaning against the sink and talking to himself. Lucy was mesmerised because she’d not seen him like this in such a long time. It was good to see him drunk and happy, feeling like he could hang out and let his defences down a bit with his fellow Metro crew. She wanted to just hug him and tell him how much she loved him but he was now busy splashing water on his face, so she just hung in the doorway watching the muscles in his back undulate and the water droplets hitting the mirror above the basin. He was completely unaware that she was there.

“How did you get so lucky?” He was talking to himself and trying to clear up the water droplets with a face cloth – unsuccessfully – from all over the counter top. “Nice home. Check. Nice dog. Check. Nice BBQ patio. Check ….” Lucy was just stood there staring with her hand over her mouth to stop her giggles and wishing her phone wasn’t on charge so she could video him. She wouldn’t miss this for the world!

“Nice bathroom. Check. Nice Job. Check. Love my job. Love my job,” Tim continued mumbling and giving himself his little pep talk: “Nice friends. Love my friends. Love my friends. Love Aaron.” Lucy had to bite down on her hand to stop any noise and she moved slightly round behind the door frame so he wouldn’t see her, but she could still hear him. “Nice Lucy. I have a nice Lucy. I have a lovely Lucy. I love Lucy. I love her hair. I think I’ll marry her! Yes she will be Mrs Lovely Bradford …. No. Mrs Lucy Bradford. Yeah I like that.”

Lucy was stood there with her mouth hanging open. Would he really ask her to marry him? She crept away and slid into bed, suddenly feeling like she had eavesdropped on something private and broken his trust in some way. She lay there thinking about what she had overheard, playing with the moonstone ring on her finger. Lucy knew what her answer would be. Who was she kidding. She’d marry that man in a heartbeat!

I am NOT surprised! Good job you have the day off. There’s more pain killers in the medicine cabinet. Go back to sleep.
