This Fanfic is meant to be written by Aether about his love with Wanderer. Aether sees Wanderer as the Moon. And Wanderer sees Aether as the Sun. Aether unfortunately has doubts about the legitimacy of their relationship, this shows through in the fanfiction.

Work Text:

The Sun was bright; Hair golden and fiery, eyes a deep orange color like hot magma. And he even had a bright personality, cheerful, sweet, and warm. This smile a comforting blanket on those who basked underneath it.

The Moon was cold; his hair dark like the nights sky, and eyes a cool violet color. His personality was the opposite of the Sun’s. He was stoic, distant, apathetic. But even so he blessed those who looked upon him. It was lonely to be a moon. Never to have people appreciate you due to being asleep. The Moon found friends in owls and cats; any who stayed up with the moon.

The Moon at first was jealous of the sun. “Why does he get the attention I too deserve?” His thoughts were bitter. Yet when they met for the first time in the sky the cold moon felt enraptured by the sun. The way his honey like eyes scan so carefully over the world made the Moon long to be looked at in such a way.

As each rotation of the earth circles, the moon longed for the sun’s attention. But the sun didn’t notice the small moon. The moon had to get crafty. “The sun watches over the earth. So, I too will watch over the earth. Let me create waves, and currents for fish to swim in.” And so the moon did.

The sun noticed the moon. So small, yet so feisty, and adorable. When the two met again in the same sky the sun smiled to the moon. “Oh Moon, have you been looking for my attention?”
The moon scoffed, crossing his arms. “I have, dear sun. It took you so long to notice.”
The sun laughed, a laugh that made the flowers bloom. “Oh Moon, I am glad to have now noticed you. Let us be friends.”

The moon felt so happy, just hid his joy due to his own pride. Each cycle was a wonderful experience for the two. Conversation after conversation. From topic to topic. Yet as the moon and the sun inevitably part the moon felt so cold without the sun to warm him.

One day the moon asked the sun “Oh Sun, why must we part each day? I want nothing more then to bask in your warmth for eternity.”

The sun looked sad as he spoke; “Dear Moon, it is simply not possible. The distance between us is far to large.”
The Moon looks disheartened. “Then I will travel to you no matter how long it takes.”

The Sun shook its head solemnly. “Moon, if you come close to me you will crumble from my heat.”

The Moon looked to the planets that had the privilege to circle around the mighty sun. “Then I will stay only as far as necessary.”

The Sun admired his courage to find solutions. Even so their was still more that would deny them both of the love they longed for. “Moon, I am far to Large”

The Moon shook its head a look of confidence on his stony expression. “Sun, It matters not your size. I will love every inch of you and the warmth you provide.”

The Sun felt himself fall for the Moon in the moment. He was so willing to cycle around him, no matter the cost or circumstances. Yet their was still one last problem.

The Sun had this look of pity and heart-break. “Moon, you can not, Earth needs you.”

The moon felt his eyes widen. The earth. He knew the sun was right, the earth and its inhabitants needed him. He felt a pain in his rocky body. “Oh Sun, it pains me to know we will never be together.”

The Sun smiled a warm bittersweet smile. “No, Moon. We will always be together, no matter the distance or challenges in between.”

The moon nodded at that, wiping away tears. “Oh Sun, you say such silly things. Yet everything you say makes me so happy.”

The sun hums a truly beautiful smile now on his bright expression. “You make me happy, Moon.”

So from then on the Moon and the Sun were lovers from Afar. Destined to be together, yet fated to be apart.
