Work Text:
Long distance relationships weren’t always easy.
Ike and Vox used to call each other every day, talking about anything and everything for hours on end. But lately, the calls grew far and few in between. Ike was becoming busier as the release of his next book was approaching. Vox understood this was a busy time for him, and always reassured his boyfriend he can call him whenever his schedule allows.
Regardless, they found ways to make time for each other.
The demon had finished getting ready for bed and was just laying down when he got a text from his favorite boy.
> Hey! I have some down time before bed, can we call for a little?
Vox grinned and immediately replied.
> Of course! <3 I’m ready when you are.
It wasn’t long before the demon’s phone went off and he eagerly answered it, propping himself against his pillow.
“Hello love~”
“Hiii~”
There was a little cat-like yawn followed after.
Vox’s heart melted. How could one voice bring him so much happiness? Ike’s sleepy voice plus the yawn was an absolute lethal combo to the heart.
“I will never get tired of hearing you yawn, my gods Ike. You are adorable.”
“Nooooo stop. That’s just how I yawn—“
“Right, so you are just naturally the cutest fucking boy in the world, got it.”
“…”
Vox could practically feel Ike’s cheeks heat up through the phone. Feeling generous tonight, the demon relented on his teasing and changed the subject.
”How was work today baby? How’s your next novel coming along?”
“It’s going well, I’ve been in meetings with my publishers nonstop,” Ike laughs lightly. “So it’ll be nice when I can catch a break.”
“Still can’t tell me any spoilers?”
“You know I want to surprise you~”
Vox chuckles.
“Well, I know it’ll be well worth the wait, you never cease to amaze me with your talent.”
Ike smiles as he settles into bed.
“Thank you… I just hope it’s well received.”
“It will be,” Vox answers instantly. “And, if it’s not, I will buy every single copy available–”
“Now now~ let’s not go to extremes.”
“You know I’m your number one fan.”
“I know... And I can’t thank you enough for all the love and support you’ve given me. I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I just... “
“You just…?”
“I miss you. I’ve been so busy and I’m sorry we haven’t been able to talk as much. I’ve missed your voice so much.”
“I miss you too, love. I promise it’s ok, I understand you’re busy. I’m just happy I can call you to tell you good night.”
“Me too… I hope I can see you soon.”
Vox turns on his side, keeping his phone close to his ear.
“Yeah, I miss holding you in my arms.”
“I miss being held by you,” Ike murmurs softly as he turns his face more into his pillow, fingers curling into his sheets.
Vox can hear the sound of fabric rustling and smiles to himself. Ike must look so cozy right now in his oversized Miku shirt, glasses discarded on his nightstand, face freshly washed and skin so soft.
“Getting comfy?”
“Mm, it’d be better if you were next to me, though.”
Maybe it’s just because Ike’s tired but his voice sounds more… pouty than usual and it makes Vox’s heart race. The demon’s quickly realizing Ike Eveland is truly his biggest weakness.
“I promise one day we’ll live together and there’ll be a demon by your side every night, giving you all the cuddles and kisses in the world.”
“That would make me very happy,” Ike murmurs, lips turning up into a smile.
The two continue talking for a while, until the writer starts to doze off.
“You have a big day tomorrow, why don’t you get some rest?”
“Mm… you’re right, I probably should,” Ike reluctantly answers.
“I love you,” says Vox. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow, yeah?”
“Yeah. I love you too. Good night, babe.”

The following week there’s a knock on the door.
Not expecting any visitors today, Ike tilts his head as he goes to answer it.
And when he does, he’s greeted with a bouquet of flowers and a demon with a warm smile.
