Work Text:

It was starting to get late, and Wilbur was trying to get Tommy to bed. But Tommy's 8, and is too invested in the Pokémon show on the TV to start getting ready for bed.

"But daaaaaad, my show is on!" Tommy groaned after Wilbur informed him it was time for bed.

"I know sweets, but you have school tomorrow. We can always record it so you can watch it when you come home."

"NO! I want to watch it NOW!" Tommy yelled.

Wilbur sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Tommy, I won't ask again. It's time for bed."

Tommy whined and stamped his foot. Tears brimmed at his eyes out of frustration. Didn't his father get how important this show was to him?

"Toms..." Wilbur walked over to where Tommy was standing. He bent down to Tommy's level and cupped Tommy's wet face in his hands.

"Sunshine, I promise your show isn't going anywhere. You won't miss it if I record it, right? We can watch it tomorrow."

Tommy huffed. "I guess..."

Wilbur smiled and kissed Tommy's cheek. "Good. Now let's get you to bed."

Wilbur stood up and picked Tommy up. Tommy's chest was against Wilbur's, with his arms and legs wrapped around his father's torso. Tommy's head lulled on Wilbur's shoulder, drifting to sleep as Wilbur hummed a song from Pokémon.

Pokémon had a bunch of movies and shows out, and Tommy had watched every single one.

But there was one movie in particular that he seemed to like: The Rise of Darkrai.

Tommy liked it so much because when he had forced Wilbur to watch it with him, Wilbur grew fond of the song Oracion, which was used in the soundtrack for the movie.

Wilbur thought it was beautiful. He listened to it on repeat for days, analyzing the emotion of the notes on the piano.

One night, as he struggled to put Tommy to bed, he thought a lullaby would maybe help the little one fall asleep. Tommy had always loved Wilbur's singing voice, so it was the perfect idea.

Out of pure instinct, Wilbur began to hum Oracion, and it had Tommy asleep in seconds.

It became Wilbur's go to lullaby. Every time Wilbur began to hum the song, Tommy was asleep within minutes.

Wilbur was a bit shocked it worked every time, even stepping back to consider if he was performing witchcraft, but he knew Tommy just found it relaxing.

So, as Wilbur carried Tommy to his room, he began to hum Oracion, the same way he always did when Tommy had trouble getting to bed. Wilbur tucked his sleeping son into his Pokémon themed bed, with all of his Pokémon plushies, as he finished the song.

Wilbur kissed Tommy's forehead and whispered "Goodnight sunshine" before turning off the light and walking out of the room.

(Time jump, Tommy's ten now)

Tommy came barreling into the living room, yelling for his father, who was sitting on the couch reading a book.

"DAD DAD DAD DAD DAD!!" Tommy stopped ubruptly in the doorway, bending over and putting his hands on his knees to catch his breath.

Wilbur jumped at Tommy's yelling, almost dropping the book in his hands on the floor. "What what what?! Is everything okay?! Are you hurt?!"

Tommy looked up at his father. "What? No! I have something to show you!"

Wilbur sighed and brought his hand up to his heart. "Jesus Christ Toms you almost gave me a heart attack. What is it you want to show me?"

Tommy ran back to where he came from, shouting at Wilbur. "Come to my room!"

"Wha- okay?" Wilbur quickly got up from the couch and made his way to Tommy's room.

Tommy was sat in front of his keyboard, the one Wilbur had bought him after he'd taken an interest in music. Wilbur was happy to let Tommy pursue his interest, as he was a music connoisseur himself.

Tommy looked up at Wilbur nervously. "I learned a song for you! Can I play it for you?"

Wilbur absolutely *melted.* Tommy learned a song for *him?*

Wilbur cooed and sat down next to Tommy. "Of course sweets."

Tommy took a deep breath and placed his hands on the keys. He began to play the song, and Wilbur's smile only grew bigger.

Tommy hadn't just learned *A* song for Wilbur, he learned *THE* song for Wilbur. Tommy had learned Oracion for him.

Tommy finished the song and turned to Wilbur. "So did you like it?"

Wilbur smiled at Tommy again and hugged him. "Of course I liked it! No, I didn't just like it, I LOVED it. Thank you Toms."

Tommy hugged Wilbur back, smiling. "Thanks dad."

"Of course."
