Chapter Text
Detective Kim...he can get used to that. It wasn't what he expected to become, but it's better than nothing!
His parents might have liked the title Doctor Kim or Lawyer Kim more, but it's too late now, he's not stepping foot inside a school building ever again.
Maybe being a detective is not his first choice or second or third… but he'll have to do it now. He already got his job, and he's now working under a bang guy? Yeah, Seungmin already forgot his name. Even after just talking to the man mere seconds ago!
Whatever, he's now following a guy named Felix, or that's at least what he introduced himself as.
“I'm so happy to finally have someone new working here!” the guy happily told Seungmin as he showed him the way to Seungmin's new workplace.
“I hope you're not boring like the others! I can already tell, we're going to be great friends” The other kept rambling on.
If it were any other day Seungmin would let him, he would just stop listening would focus his attention on anything else but him. However, the man next to him basically glowed and Seungmin was starting to get blinded.
“What makes you think we'd be friends?” is what Seungmin asked the sunshine alike guy next to him. You'd think it was a normal question if you didn't see the displeased look on Seungmins' face. But sunshine boy here next to good old Seungmin didn’t notice!
“Oh you know, we’re around the same age, you-“ the blonde started saying but was soon cut off by Seungmin.
“How do you know my age?” he’d asked while raising one brow at the older.
“Channie-hyung told me!” the boy beamed. But as he saw the confused look on Seungmins face he spoke up again. “I meant Channie-hyung as in Mr. Bang, our boss!”
At the others words Seungmins confusion turned into annoyance. How can this guy that doesn't even know him compare himself to Seungmin while being disrespectful to his seniors?! Seungmin is not disrespectful he takes great pride in his ability to follow rules, he never once broke them in school so how can-
“Don’t space out on me now! I still have to show you around!” sunshine boy said while putting his right arm on Seungmins shoulder.
The touch seemed to almost burn the younger.
His new co-worker really has to stop glowing so much if he wants to actually become Seungmins friend.
“Settling in well?” his boss came to ask Seungmin later in the day. At the time Seungmin answered positively out of politeness but if he were completely honest, it was not as bad as he expected it to be.
He has no experience in actually working with others aside from his side job at Starbucks, when he was still in college.
He really didn’t need to work there, his parents had his schools expenses covered, but he couldn’t just use them for their money. He still hadn’t repaid them fully even though he did work from time to time but the money he made was nowhere close to how much his parents actually spent. That’s also the reason he took this job, to pay of his “Dept” to his parents.
His parents tried convincing him countless times that he didn’t have to, they were his parents for god’s sake!
But Seungmin was always stubborn, he supposedly got it from his dad, but he’s not so sure. Just because his parents are something doesn’t mean he has to be it as well.
His past friends also always asked him why he wanted to become a detective so suddenly.
He was never interested in that field but when he had to make a decision he chose this direction.
His friends and parents would have expected him to do anything else but that, is what they told him all the time.
But Seungmin knows it was a lie. They never thought he was going to do something else, they never really knew what he wanted to do.
Neither did Seungmin.
He was always studying for all of his classes equally, being on top of all of them, he never favoured any of them.
He just did what he was told, he could’ve also become a doctor, and he would be just as content.
But he didn’t because of one incident.
The story is really stupid if he thinks about it now, he’s sure people would laugh at him if he were to tell them.
It all started when Seungmin was taking the bus to get to the library because one of his friends took his car for a few days.
He was just sitting in the back listening to music with his headphones on when he overheard someone’s conversation.
It happens a lot to him, he observes the people around him but usually forgets their conversation a few days later.
But not this one.
The person sitting a few seats before him was talking to their supposed friend about how stupid a detective he saw on TV was. The investigator apparently missed all the hints even when they were literally right in front of him and only managed to solve the case by pure luck.
The guys friend only scoffed at his friends complains and replied with a bored “of course you’d complain, you should just be a detective already if they are all so bad” before turning his attention to the window next to him.
“I’d be the best detective!” his friend answered with a smug grin on his face, he almost looked like the Cheshire cat.
The bluenette next to the cat look a like said something else but seungmins attention was already somewhere else.
He was going to be the best detective.
seungmin didn’t know where his sudden competitiveness came from, but he went with it.
He had to beat this guy.
Maybe then he’d stop complaining about “bad detectives”.
His bluenette friend would probably like it too, not having to listen to his friend's complaints all day.
