Work Text:

Parents can shape a child into who they become, you could say parents were like sculptures. Slowly smoothing the edges down, curving the clay into a figure, a shape of which they see fit. But what if the clay rises again, edges sharp, figure unclear, uncertain.

That's how Kiyoomi would describe his life, he was raised with two loving parents despite their beliefs, he loved his parents. And two siblings which were older than him. So more than often he found himself alone, just thinking.

His parents were strict people, always straightforward about their beliefs and what they do and do not stand for. And one thing they did not, no matter what, was homosexuality. They did not agree with it, did not want to associate with anyone like that, and most certainly did not want a child like that.

Sakusa knew what he was getting himself into the day he met atsumu, he knew the problems it would create. But for once in his life he let go and finally did what he wanted to do.

“Miya, are you sure you want to go?” Sakusa asked for the 10th time that day, they were currently getting ready to have brunch with his brother and sister, unlike his parents they were more observant they saw how sakusa’s mood had dramatically inclined, how he's posts were not at his own apartment but someones else so in response his sister sent out a text

‘kiyo! Were having brunch at the usually<3 bring your girlfriend ;)’

He had to mentally slap himself from just spilling everything right there with some snarky reply.

“Omi yes for the millionth time, i want to go” Atsumu said buttoning up his shirt in the mirror and fluffing his hair to the side, Kiyoomi scoffed coming up behind up and putting his hands on his waist watching Atsumu tilt his head to the side and smirk.

“What, you'd rather do somethin’ else omi~” Atsumu teased, rolling his hips into Sakusa’s crotch making the taller male hit the blonde.

“Geez! I was just joking '' Atsumu whined moving around Sakusa to grab his watch.

Sakusa couldn't help but worry his siblings had never said anything outright homophobic, but they weren't exactly the spitting image of accepting.

“Well come on then Atsumu, they're punctual” Sakusa said watching as Atsumu was complaining about being rushed following the younger male to the front door to put their shoes on.

The drive wasn't long, maybe 20 minutes, and in those 20 minutes Sakusa has gone through every pro and con known to man.

Pros:

  1. Atsumu would be happy, which is all that really matters in the end to Sakusa

  1. He wouldn't have to practically hide his relationship anymore

And that was basically where the pro list ended

Sakusa knew nothing really amazing or world changing would come from letting the blonde meet his siblings except his lover's happiness and that itself was enough for him.

As they made there way up to the familiar mansion type structure, Atsumu was in awe

“Wah!? Omi yur rich?” Atsumu gawked like an idiot looking back and forth at the house then to Sakusa shaking him and mumbling about how he looked like a dead fish, and that he was underdressed.

“Atsumu you look fine, if you want to make it in one piece i suggest you stop shaking me so i can park” Sakusa sighed as the blonde continued on

“no! I knew ya had money, but not this!” he yelped as Sakusa parked the car, opening his door, Atsumu following a suit.

“It's not that big of a deal” Sakusa pouted, shoving his hands into his pants pockets watching as Atsumu’s mouth dropped open.

“Whadya mean! I can't wait to tell sumu' ’' Atsumu singsonged as Sakusa shook his head walking up to the marble steps which led to the front door.

Sakusa's heart raced as he stood outside his parents house, He didn't hav to worry about them since they where out shopping according to his sister.

Atsumu glanced at Sakusa, sensing his nervousness. "You okay, omi? Ya know i don't gotta go" he asked softly, grasping his hand for support.

Sakusa nodded, squeezing Atsumu's hand. "I'm just a little anxious about how they'll react," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

Atsumu gave him a reassuring smile. "Hey, you'll be fine omi i got ya’ mkay?" he said, his voice filled with determination.

Sakusa took a deep breath, grateful for Atsumu's support although he'd take that to the grave with him.

He knocked on the door, and his sister, Mio, opened it with a welcoming smile.

"Hey, kiyoomi!” there was a long beat of silence before she spoke up again “And..Atsumu! So glad you could make it," Mio exclaimed, pulling them into a warm hug. Clearly confused by the blonde's unplanned visit.

Sakusa smiled softly at his sister's welcome "Thanks, Mio. We're happy to be here," he said gratefully.

As they entered the house, Sakusa's brother, Yuki, walked over with a curious expression.

"Kiyoo~, welcome home little brother" his brother smirked watching the irritation spread on Sakusa's face.

“Hello yuki” was all Sakusa said in reply, “Not to be rude, a friend of yours is a friend of mine” his older brother said as the four of them walked to the living room, “but i may ask, why would you bring your friend here today? Where's your girlfriend kiyo?”he asked, genuine confusion evident by the way he looked and was talking.

Sakusa exchanged a nervous glance with Atsumu, he knew bringing Atsumu meant he would have to tell his siblings yes, but when he actually had to do it, it was nothing like the fake conversations he had in the mirror practicing.

.

.

.

“Omi what the hell are ya doin’?!” Atsumu laughed falling over and clutching his stomach

“Shut up miya!” Sakusa yelled chucking a towel at his boyfriend

.

.

.

His older sister Mio spoke up, breaking the silence, “did you honestly make the poor girl wait in the car kiyo?!” she yelped, glancing back and forth at Sakusa and Atsumu who sat on the couch opposite of the siblings like they had two heads.

“Okay, i would like to say something and i want you both to listen to me speak before you interrupt” Sakusa said slowly like he was unsure, he glanced over at Atsumu who looked calm but Sakusa could tell he was also nervous.

“Of course kiyoomi, what's up? '' Yuki smiled, leaning back into his seat grabbing his drink from the coffee table before taking a sip of his tea.

“I don't have a girlfriend” he sighed, pausing, watching as mio and yuki raised their eyebrows confused before mio spoke up, words pulled apart sounding almost forced like she was thinking out loud.

“The whole point of today was to…bring your girlfriend?” she said pausing glancing back and forth at sakusa and atsumu

“Kiyoomi” she said slowly, she put on leg on top of the other and leaned forward, her eyes wide as yuki looked lost

“Yes miyo?” Sakusa said, trying to keep calm and not freak out right now as he looked over at Atsumu once more who gave him a small smile.

“Okay, I feel a little lost here,” Yuki said, glancing back and forth at his siblings, plastering a confused little smile onto his lips.

“is…Atsumu…you're?” she paused waving her hand in the air leaving the obvious question lingering in the air, not wanting to say something that wasn't untrue.

“Yes miya’s my boyfriend, we've been dating for several months, i just didn't know how to tell you two. And once you invited me over I wanted to use the opportunity” Kiyoomi sighed watching his sister's mouth fall open as she leaned back into the couch.

Yuki's eyes widened in shock, his mouth falling open as well. "Boyfriend? Sakusa, are you serious?" he exclaimed, clearly taken aback.

Mio jumped in, adding her own thoughts “kiyo what the hell?” she yelled, shaking her head looking like she had just been punched.

Yuki frowned, still struggling to accept the revelation.

“Kiyoomi, this isn't how we were raised. What will Mom and Dad say? This has to be..some misunderstanding isn't that right... miya is it?” he chuckled roughly looking over at atsumu

“Ah-um it's true actually” was surprisingly all atsumu could say, if the situation was different sakusa would have teased atsumu for being so quiet for once.

At that, yuki looked lost mumbling under his breathe “kiyoomi what the fuck?”

“Listin-” sakusai started before being cut off

“No what the fuck! You listen, what are you thinking, are you serious? "Yuki raised his voice, running his hands over his face into his own slightly less curly hair.

“Kiyo..” mio started her voice drifting off

“I get it, if you can't accept it or whatever. But atsumu is my boyfriend okay? You two can deny it all you want you can cuss swear or whatever it is you two do, but i'm not going to beg for you two understand” sakusa said the calmness in his voice slowly fading

“Kiyoomi, i dont know what the fuck youre thinking” yuki started “but this is wrong its wrong for the family name”

“I dont care? Why cant i do something i want to for once, no offense but i could give two fucks about the family name okay?” sakusa said voice raising higher in anger

“What the hell would mom and dad think?!” yuki yelled a frustrated laugh falling from his lips

"It's not their business, Yuki," Mio retorted, her voice sounding small unsure.

“The fuck yes it!-”

Knock knock

Before they could continue their conversation, a knock was heard at the front door. “Who the fuck is here?” yuki yelled

“our parents” was all mio said earring glances from everyone

“What..?” sakusa said softly, glancing back and forth at his siblings' color leaving his face.

“Great, just fucking peachy!” yuki yelled standing up and pacing back at forth

“I invited them..i-i thought it would be a surprise for them to see your girlfriend” she said softly

“Omi” atsumu whispered, Sakusa knew he was giving him a chance to back out, but right now would be a little late.

Sakusa's heart skipped a beat, knowing that whatever was about to happen would not be good.

“Can no one open the door anymore” a deep male voice said laughing softly setting something down onto the counter.

“I see kiyoomi’s car outside mio, yuki! Are yall in here?”

silence

“maybe there upstairs honey” the woman's voice said sighing happily before the sound of heels walked closer to the living room pausing as she met their eyes.

“Oh! Hi kiyoomi come give me a hug, why is everyone ignoring me” she laughed, extending her hands as sakusa looked around standing up to hug his mother.

His mother, Kaede, hugged him tightly, her eyes filled with love. "kiyoomi, it's so good to see you," she said warmly.

Sakusa's father, Hiroshi, stood stiffly beside them, a stern look on his face, sakusa let go of his mother shifting uncomfortably following his eyes to atsumu

  shit

"Where is your girlfriend Kiyoomi?" he asked, eyeing Atsumu suspiciously.

Sakusa took a deep breath, his voice surprisingly steady as he introduced Atsumu.

"Father, this is Atsumu. He's my boyfriend," he said, his gaze unwavering.

Hiroshi's face turned red with anger, his voice laced with disbelief. "Boyfriend? Sakusa, have you lost your mind?" he exclaimed, his voice rising.

“Yes boyfriend '' Sakusa said, trying to look his dad in the eyes, failing miserably as his father got more angry as the seconds went by.

“Now kiyoomi” his mother said glaring at him, then at Atsumu who sat quietly on the couch clearly now looking nervous.

“Sakusa kiyoomi! We did not raise you to be some fag!-” his dad started yelling anger clear in everything he did.

“I-i know it doesn't mean much at the moment, but youre son means everything to me. I love him sir” atsumu said, standing beside sakusa, it was clear atsumu had no clue what to say he just wanted to take some pressure off his boyfriend who looked like he was about to die.

Hiroshi's face twisted in rage “you will not say you love my son!” he yelled, swinging his hand towards Atsumu, aiming to strike him.

But before he could land the blow, Sakusa stepped in, shielding Atsumu with his body.

"Stop!" Sakusa shouted, his voice filled with a mixture of anger and pain. "You will not touch him," he declared, his eyes blazing with determination.

“You can do whatever to me but you will not lay a finger on him or so fucking help me”

Mio and Yuki rushed forward, trying to separate their father from sakusa who were currently having a yelling battle, their voices filled with concern.

"Dad, calm down! This isn't the way to handle this!" Mio pleaded, her voice desperate.

Kaede watched the scene unfold, tears streaming down her face as she saw the turmoil in her family. She rushed to Sakusa's side, placing a hand on his trembling shoulder.

"kiyoomi, please, you have to understand why we're upset," Kaede whispered, her voice filled with regret.

Sakusa turned to his mother, his expression pained. "Mom, I can't change who I am or who I love. I need you to accept that," he said, his voice filled with a roughness sound

Atsumu reached out, gently taking Sakusa's hand in his own, clearly stunned about what had just happened.

Hiroshi finally calmed down, his anger giving way to exhaustion. He looked at Sakusa, his voice filled with a mix of reluctance and resignation.

"Kiyoomi, I don't understand this... but if this is what makes you happy, then maybe... maybe I can try to understand it," he reluctantly admitted, his voice faltering.

“But you have to..try to ration with us to see where we're coming from?” his father said confusedly.

“Please kiyoomi let's just all..sit down?” kaede pleaded

The family spent the rest of the afternoon in a tense silence, processing the events that had unfolded.

It was a defining moment, a fork in the road that would shape their relationships moving forward.

As the sun began to set, Sakusa's siblings gathered around him, offering their support and apologizing to sakusa and atsumu for their behavior.

They promised to stand by him, no matter what, and Sakusa felt a sense of relief wash over him.

Nothing that had happened exactly was soothing, but it was doable. As they left the mansion, Atsumu had yet to say a word which was unlike him.

They got into the car and sakusa looked over worried.

“At-”

Chuckle

“Ah shit omi!” atsumu gasped chuckling and clutching his stomach

“What's so funny atsumu” sakusa sighed, but couldn't stop how his own smile from spreading onto his face

“Nothin’ you jus i don't know” atsumu smiled looking over at his boyfriend like he hung the stars

“Shut up atsumu and come here” sakusa laughed watching as atsumu turned red as kiyoomi hugged him tightly.
