Work Text:

The streets were bustling with people by the time Junmyeon walked out of his office, his messenger bag slung over his body. He glanced at his watch and noticed it was only a little over nine and although the sun had set, the air still felt a little too humid for his liking.

It was humid enough for him to unzip a few inches of his leather jacket. He shouldn't have worn it during the summer, but he works as a stylist, he definitely could not afford to show up to work underdressed.

He considered getting an ice cream on the way home, but he wasn’t really in the mood to stop by a mini market just to buy ice cream, even though he had a feeling that his boyfriend would be delighted to find their refrigerator full of ice cream pints.

Junmyeon sighed; he should have brought his car to work today. Damn Sehun and his nagging about Junmyeon being a contributor to the current global warming issue if he keeps bringing his car to work when his office is only a few blocks away from their apartment. Junmyeon had only frowned at him because there were always times when Sehun got too obsessed with one thing and made sure everyone know about it before moving on to the next thing he found on the internet. This month, it seemed like he wanted to play the climate activist, which is entirely a good thing, Junmyeon thought, if he wasn’t so annoying about it.

So when Sehun kept berating him and even went to the extent of hiding his car keys, Junmyeon only sighed and put on his walking shoes to make sure he felt comfortable enough walking for a few blocks.

Little did he know it was only one of Sehun’s excuses to walk together to work every morning. Junmyeon found it cute that Sehun could have simply asked him, and he would have said yes without a doubt, but Sehun has never been really good at expressing his feelings. Instead, he would channel it into being a brat Junmyeon loves so much because he knows how much he got the older wrapped around his fingers.

Despite their frequent walks to work together, they almost never walked home together due to Sehun’s irregular schedules as a model. Sometimes he would go home earlier than Junmyeon, and other times he would find Junmyeon already asleep in their bed with their dog lying on the carpet beside him. Even after years of living together, Sehun’s heart would always flutter at the sight of such domesticity.

They met a few years ago when Sehun modeled for a magazine, and Junmyeon was assigned to style him for the shoot. Stolen glances quickly blossomed into exchanges of flirty texts, which ultimately resulted in Junmyeon taking Sehun out on frequent dates. With each date, Junmyeon realized he was falling deeper for the model. He found that his love was reciprocated when Sehun asked him to move in after a few months of dating.

So, Junmyeon concluded, he was living a very happy life with his model boyfriend and their fluffy dog.

His thoughts were then interrupted by the sight of his boyfriend across the street, waving eagerly at him. It took Junmyeon by surprise because he hadn’t expected to run into Sehun on the way home. Even though Sehun’s workplace was located along Junmyeon’s route home, Sehun had sent him a quick text an hour ago, mentioning that he would probably be late due to a night shoot.

Yet, there Sehun stood, radiating his captivating presence from across the street. With his towering 6-foot frame, he waved enthusiastically, calling out “hyung!” with an infectious smile on his face.

Junmyeon’s heart skipped a beat at the unexpected encounter. The warmth of joy filled him, and a smile formed on his lips as he watched Sehun crossed the street.

“Sehunnie,” Junmyeon said once the taller stopped in front of him. “What are you doing here?”

Sehun snorted, pointing at his office building across the street. “I work there, in case you forgot.”

“I know, but you said you have a night shoot tonight,” Junmyeon said, only now noticing that Sehun was wearing a sleeveless jacket that showcased his nicely toned arms. With no makeup on his face, Junmyeon assumed he had finished the shoot early. A pair of silly sunglasses sat atop his head, perfectly complementing the leather pants he wore, matching Junmyeon’s own leather jacket.

Junmyeon silently appreciated how well they looked together in their matching outfits. He thought about capturing a few pictures on the way home; they would fit nicely on his Instagram feeds.

“They said I did well and let me off early,” Sehun shrugged. “Must be because of how fine I look with this outfit.” Sehun smirked, his hand gesturing to his body.

Junmyeon couldn’t deny the truth in Sehun’s statement, so he simply smiled and gently touched Sehun’s exposed arms. “You do look good, as always.”

“Cheeseball,” Sehun teased, although his heart fluttered in his chest just like every other time Junmyeon complimented him. Sehun then tapped Junmyeon’s exposed chest, right between the few inches of his unzipped leather jacket, and pouted. “What’s this?”

“It’s kinda hot today, isn't it?” Junmyeon replied.

"Me?" Sehun feigned innocence.

“The weather, idiot. Be serious for once.”

Sehun burst into laughter, a hearty sound filling the air, before leaving a sweet kiss on Junmyeon’s right cheek. “Sorry, babe, I can’t find it in me to be serious whenever I’m near you.”

Junmyeon huffed playfully. “And you called me a cheeseball.”

Sehun only responded with a chuckle as he wrapped his arms around Junmyeon’s waist and started leading the way towards their home. “Wanna get a cream soda?”

“Is that some kind of innuendo or something?”

Sehun punched his boyfriend lightly in the shoulder. “Get your mind out of the gutter. It’s a soda with whipped cream.”

Junmyeon wondered briefly if there was really such a thing, but Sehun had once found a fact about kangaroos’ ability to clear 8 meters with one jump and he had woken Junmyeon up at the crack of dawn just to tell him that, so anything Sehun said was possible, really.

“Well, I was actually thinking of getting ice cream.” Junmyeon replied.

Sehun contemplated for a moment before dragging Junmyeon to a smaller road northwest of Sehun’s office. “There is usually an ice cream truck parked around here.”

And indeed, an ice cream truck was parked at a corner, with an old man attending to a few teenagers stopping by for ice cream. Junmyeon found it quite rare to see ice cream trucks in a big city these days, so he approached the truck with excitement, and Sehun followed along.

However, instead of ordering ice cream like Junmyeon intended to, Sehun successfully convinced him to try a sparkly blue drink called cream soda. It reminded Junmyeon of a beverage on the menu of a fast-food restaurant he frequented during his college days. And the taste was, just as Junmyeon expected, similar.

It tasted like candy bars—too sweet for Junmyeon’s liking, but Sehun had always loved sweet things so Junmyeon just watched as Sehun happily slurped the soda, enjoying every sip and playfully scooping up the cream on top with his spoon. By the end of his last slurp, a small trace of whipped cream lingered on the corner of his mouth.

The sight alone was so endearing that Junmyeon couldn’t resist. He stood on his toes and leaned in to kiss his boyfriend, effectively wiping away the cream. Strangely enough, it tasted even sweeter on Sehun’s lips.

“Hyung,” Sehun said, his voice sounding almost breathless. It was crazy how, after years of dating, every little thing Junmyeon did still affected him just as much as it did when they first met inside Sehun’s dressing room. Junmyeon truly had a way of making him feel like a love fool, even to this day.

“What?” Junmyeon asked, his gaze fixed on Sehun’s eyes, which were sparkling with a mixture of excitement and affection.

Sehun’s cheeks were flushed, the sweetness of the cream soda mingling with the lingering warmth of the unexpected kiss. He reached out and gently intertwined his fingers with Junmyeon’s, his touch warm and comforting. “I love you.”

Junmyeon huffed out a laugh, his heart swelling with an overwhelming amount of love. “I love you too.”

As they continued their walk home, laughter filled the air, blending with the warmth of their love. Junmyeon realized that in addition to their happy life, it was these unexpected moments, brimming with love and surprises, that made their relationship truly felt amazing.
