Work Text:
No one could refuse a gift from the Queen. Not even a demon. The gift wasn’t for him, but he hated it nonetheless. A stupid beagle puppy was given to Ciel as a gift for his ‘noble’ work for the crown. The small little beagle puppy was promptly named Lady Noir. She was absolutely adorable, learning new tricks very easily and making her master smile. Sebastian hated it.
“Lady, stop! You can’t lick me, not my face!” Ciel said as he laughed, kneeling on the floor while the puppy played with her master. He tried to refill her food bowl, a task he himself did. Just like how he trained her and walked her. Perhaps Ciel didn’t trust Lady Noir with the demon. Or perhaps he just loved her more.
“Down mutt,” Sebastian muttered, staring at the puppy and using a bit of demon magic. She whimpered and walked over to her bed in the corner of the kitchen. Ciel frowned and then turned to his demon… lover?
“Don’t do that, she’s just a puppy,” Ciel said, looking up at the demon with his big doe eyes. As usual, the sixteen-year-old took the puppy's side. Defending her and scolding Sebastian. The demon watched as Ciel took his baby outside to go to the bathroom. He couldn’t help but scoff.
Of course, the earl loved Lady more than him. She was pure and sweet, and he was a nasty old demon. Hell, the boy even let Lady Noir sleep in his room. Far away from the kitchen and coincidentally far from Sebastian's room. Had the demon known that in a simple three months, Ciel would grow bored of him, he would have never allowed their relationship to change. Did their relationship even change? Or did they just kiss and smile softly at one another for no reason?
“Oh geez stop moping,” Bard’s voice reached his ears as the chef entered the room. Baldroy was the only one who for sure knew of their relationship and he’d been getting fed up with Sebastian's attitude towards the puppy.
“It’s just a bloody puppy, an incredibly sweet puppy. They need lots of attention,” Bard said, putting some fresh vegetables into the sink before turning to face his boss/ slash friend.
“I’m not moping,” Sebastian said, turning back to his work but Bard just laughed. Of course, the chef wouldn’t understand, he didn’t know all the details of Ciel’s and his relationship.
“You know, if you're so jealous, why not ask the young master if you can sleep at the foot of his bed too,” Bard teased. Before Sebastian could turn around and kill him, the other servants entered. He huffed quietly and allowed the night to continue, while defiantly NOT moping.
It was long past bedtime when Sebastian heard it. He looked at the clock and saw the time said after two am. Huh. Standing, the demon walked over to the door and listened to the scratching for a moment before opening it. Lady Noir stood there in all her glory, looking up at him with big eyes. Ugh.
“What do you want?” Sebastian asked, crossing his arms. The puppy looked at him before turning and walking a few steps then stopping. She looked back at him, expect ting him to follow, so he sighed and did. Lady Noir led him up the stairs and to Ciel’s room. It was one of the rare nights the puppy wasn’t sleeping with her master and so Sebastian just sighed.
“Damn dog, dragging me up here for your master? I’m not letting you in.” Sebastian said matter of fact and she just stared at him. He turned to walk away, and she yipped at him to his surprise. The demon whirled around to quiet her and saw her digging at the bottom of the door, trying hard to get in. He was about to grab her and take her outside when he heard it. A little whimper.
Sebastian looked from the dog to the door before sighing and entering at the sound of another whimper. Ciel lay on the bed, writhing slightly. He was whimpering quite loudly and his face was covered in tears. He was having a nightmare. The demon rushed to his boy's side and gently woke him.
With a gasp, Ciel opened his eyes and stared up at Sebastian. To the butler’s surprise, Ciel threw himself at the demon, wrapping his arms tightly around him. Sebastian just sat there holding him until he calmed down. Eventually, Ciel began playing with the demon's hand, before lacing their fingers together.
Not that Ciel would tell him, but he was once again having a nightmare about the Campania. More specifically, the Undertaker nearly killing Sebastian. They sat there for a few more minutes before Ciel leaned up and kissed his demon. The larger’s hand went up to cup his sweet face.
They kissed for a few moments but were interrupted by the puppy. Lady jumped up onto the bed, but didn’t make it all the way, so on reflex Sebastian caught her and set her on the bed between them. She sat and stared at the two and Ciel sighed.
“I’m sorry she bothered you,” Ciel whispered and Sebastian just shook his head. While he may not like Lady Noir, the girl did get him during his lover's time of need. Ciel sat himself up a bit more and turned slightly to face Sebastian.
“No, I know you don’t like dogs, so I've been trying to keep her from bothering you but…” Ciel began and Sebastian felt his heart flutter. Something that didn’t happen often.
“I thought you didn’t want her near me,” Sebastian whispered to Ciel who fervently shook his head.
“No! I just, I know you hate dogs so I… I didn’t want her to bother you so I've been trying to keep her away but I think she really likes you,” Ciel tried to explain and it caused his demon to smile. He leaned down once more and kissed his boy before turning to look at the dog and smiling.
“Does this mean I can get a cat?” Sebastian questioned teasingly and Ciel rolled his eyes before huffing and throwing himself back to lay flat on the bed.
“Absolutely not,” an exaggerated frown covered the demon's face,” but, if your good, you can dress me up as a cat,” Ciel said, sitting up and leaning his blushing face into Sebastian's neck. The demon laughed and stood, making his way to the door to shut it. Upon seeing that Ciel’s frown turned to a smile and the demon returned to hold him.
As they began to fall asleep, Lady Noir came and laid down, right next to Sebastian. Ciel was about to reprimand her and send her away, but Sebastian stopped him.
“She’s not so bad,” he whispered and Ciel smiled. Of course later in the morning when they woke up and she had an ‘accident’ on Sebastian, he’d like her a little less.
