The Color Palette of Loving You

Summary:

Logan sort of hates the idea of having to be stuck with one person for him to be able to see in color.

Work Text:

He was so used to the dull theme of his life. Maybe a little jealous of the adults who’ve found their soulmate and can see in color while he’s being coddled for being too young to worry about such a thing. Bug Logan’s not even sure he wants to meet his soulmate. If he was honest he sort of hates the idea of the universe telling you who you’re suppose to be with for the rest of your life. Like, sure, he wants to see the world in color but why does he have to be stuck with this one person for that to be possible? He knows people who aren’t soulmates end up falling in love and making it work. Saying some shit like they’re too blinded by their love for each other that it never even crossed their mind to leave each other in search of the one so they can finally see how vivid the world really is.

Logan somehow always gets the short end of the straw between him and his older brother Dalton. He was off doing god-knows what he wanted to do while Logan was off being shipped to boarding school in Europe. Because their parents insisted that one of them has to know how to run the family business when they’re old enough and somehow that became Logan’s problem. So he begrudgingly packs his bag, literally shoving all of his clothes without a care in the world, before he’s off to the airport. They at least put him in first class, small mercies. When he lands in London, for once the dullness of not seeing in color fits the stupid weather that greeted him. It was too cold for a Florida boy like him. He hates how he’s too far away from home and he doesn’t even know anyone and somehow he sticks out like a sore thumb when he gets to the school and he’s the only American in his year. Worst part is that he has to share a room with someone when he’s had a room all to himself since he was born. So when Logan walks into his assigned room his roommate is already there and attaching posters to his side of the room. He takes a moment to study the already cluttered other side of the room as the other boy struggles to tape up what looks like a cricket poster. “Hi?” Logan tries to be civil before the other boy turns around and offers Logan a megawatt grin. “Hello to you too. Hope you don’t mind I’ve already picked my side of the room.” The other boy says. He has an accent that sounds familiar but Logan’s sure he isn’t British. “S’fine. I’m, uh, Logan by the way.” He says before he sticks his hand out. The other boy’s grin somehow widens before shaking his hand. “I’m Oscar. Looks like they stuck the two kids farthest from home together then.” He jokes and Logan tries his best to smile. “I’m from Australia in case that wasn’t obvious. Though there are a few Kiwis around and the accent might get confusing at first but you’ll get used to it.” Oscar adds and lets go of Logan’s hand. “So do you need help with your stuff? I’m pretty much done with mine and I’ve got nothing to do.” The other boy offers and Logan just nods yes. “Thanks bro.” Logan says as he watches Oscar bring in the rest of his bags into their room. “You sure like your posters, huh?” Logan asks as he points out the three on Oscar’s side or the room. Oscar smiles at him more softly this time. “My sisters picked them out for me. Said it’ll help make the place feel a little bit like home.” Oscar explains. “That’s nice. Can you like see…you know…” Logan trails off, hoping Oscar would get what he’s implying. “Oh! Nah, not really bothered by the whole soulmates thing. I’ll see color when the world wants me to. Not gonna bother spending energy on looking for the one.” Oscar says with a light chuckle and Logan’s glad he hasn’t offended the one person who’s friendly too him. “What about you mate?” Oscar shoots back and Logan shrugs. “Not really bothered by it either. It’ll happen if it happens but I won’t stop myself going after someone if I end up liking them, soulmate or not.” Logan says. “I think we’re gonna get on just fine then.” Oscar says with a smile.

School was hard at first. Getting used to things and how different things were from back home. Somehow he and Oscar have the same classes and they just stuck together like it makes perfect sense to them. He meets the other boys that Oscar mentioned. Marcus is a year ahead of them and from New Zealand but was already living in London for some years before he went to school which explains why his accent has mellowed out according to Oscar. Then there was Liam. Logan liked Liam for his no bullshit attitude but is also somehow one of the chillest people Logan’s met. He was even more surprised when he finds out Liam was there on a partial scholarship. “I play the guitar mostly. But I can also play the piano but not as good.” Liam explains. “He can also sing but he doesn’t advertise that much.” Marcus pipes up before Liam swats at him. “And why are you here?” Logan asks Marcus. “Dad wanted someone to take over the business someday. But at least all of my other siblings have to go to business school too so it’s not just me suffering.” Marcus explains. “Lucky you I guess. I didn’t have a choice because my older brother didn’t even last a day in school so I have no choice but to take one for the family.” Logan explains and receives a consoling pat on the back from Marcus. “If you ever wanna know the best places in London just ask me. I’ve probably been to all of them.” He says with a wink before he walks off to head to class. “Should have know you’re a party animal.” Oscar teases as they walk to their next class. “I’m not. What makes you say that?” Logan asks. “You got on well with Marcus and he’s been known to have some wild nights.” Oscars says with a shrug. “I like to have a good time with fun people. Doesn’t make me a party animal. Besides, it’a not much of a party if you’re around shitty people. Then I’d rather stay in of that’s the case.” Logan says. “Stay in just by yourself?” Oscar asks. “If I had no choice, then yeah. But if I could invite at least one friend to hangout with me then that would be better than being around crappy people.” Logan says as he takes his seat next to Oscar. “Would you call me to hangout with you on a night in?” Oscar teases as he pulls out his notebook from his bag. “Only if you help me with our math assignment because I suck so bad with numbers.” Logan teases back. “You got a deal my friend.” Oscar says offering his hand for Logan to shake. Logan chuckles before he shakes Oscar’s hand and their teacher walks in.

Despite them getting on so well, him and Oscar can be total opposite at times. Oscar spent his time after class by taking more advance math classes. While Logan was warming up for football tryouts. Or well, soccer if you asked him, but he wasn’t about to say that to their coach’s face and get sent off the field without being given a fair shot. He knows he’s good enough to make the team he just hopes him being American trying to join the football team won’t cloud their judgement. When it was Logan’s turn to run drills, he spots a familiar mop of messy hair sit itself down on the bleachers. Oscar smiles at him lazily when their eyes meet before he gives him a wave and a thumbs up before the coach blows his whistle and Logan sprints across the field. When he makes it to the other side of the filed he vaguely hears clapping before he turns to see Oscar applauding his performance. He sends him a tired smile before he grabs his water bottle. Later when they’re making their way back to their room Oscar teases him that it was because of him that Logan made the team. “You wouldn’t have run that fast if it wasn’t for my moral support.” Oscar says which earns him a shove from Logan. “Sure. Now I’m gonna need to see your annoying face at every game for me to run that fast from now on.” He shoots back which earns him an eye roll. “Surely I get roommate perks so I can watch every game.” Oscar says. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll look into it. So how was math class after our math class?” Logan asks. “S’okay. I like the challenge. Plus it’ll only be a plus if I ever wanna become an engineer.” Oscar says. “Engineer? For what?” Logan asks. “Have you ever heard of Formula 1? I grew up watching it and since becoming a driver’s too expensive I thought maybe I could work behind the scenes.” Oscar explains. “That sounds cool.” Logan says with a smile. “Yeah? Thought you’d call me a nerd or something.” Oscar says, surprise clear in his voice. “Oscar you’re smart as fuck. You’ll make it whatever you wanna do with your life.” Logan says. “You’re not just saying that because I help you with your maths assignment?” Oscar teases and Logan retaliates by throwing his used towel at him. “I’m being a great friend, dumbass!” Logan exclaims which earns him a chuckle from Oscar. “Yeah, you are. Hey, do you wanna watch the F1 race at Silverstone with me? I saved up for a 3-day pass but I can just get 2 tickets for Sunday for the two of us instead.” Oscar offers. Logan stops on his tracks at Oscar’s offer. “You’d do that for me?” He asks and Oscar only offers him a shrug. “It’ll be boring to attend all 3 days on my own. I think it would be more fun to watch the race with someone. Only if you want to.” He says. “But you saved up for it.” Logan says. “It’s still my money. I get to decide what I wanna do with it and I want to take you with me if you wanna come with.” Oscar extends the offer once again with a small smile. “Can I think about it? It sounds really cool but I have no idea what to expect from watching a race.” Logan says. “Yeah, seems fair but let me know when you make up your mind so I can get us good seats if ever.” Oscar says and something inside Logan does a little flip with how excited Oscar sounds. Logan makes up his mind 3 days later and decides to surprise Oscar one morning by jumping on his bed and waking him up. “I’m literally gonna kill you.” Oscar grumbles from where he’s trapped under Logan’s weight. “No you won’t. I’ve made up my mind about the F1 thing and I wanna watch it with you.” Logan says with a cheeky grin. “And you couldn’t have told me like a normal person?” Oscar says finally trying to push Logan off of him. “Normal is boring. Besides, you won’t hate me with what I have to show you. In fact you’ll probably love me forever after this.” Logan says with a smug grin on his face before he holds out a piece of paper in front of Oscar. “3-day VIP tickets to the British Grand Prix for us.” Logan says as Oscar takes the ticket in his hand. Oscar scans the piece of paper that Logan’s offered him before looking back at the grinning boy still technically sat on his lap. “Logan this is…why?” Oscar stammers out. “Because you’ve been an amazing friend and I’ve never seen your face light up like it did when you talked about F1 the other day.” Logan says. “I can pay you back.” Oscar says which makes Logan frown. “No. This is me thanking you. I don’t need you to pay me back when you’ve done so much for me.” Logan explains. “I know you saved up for it and if you really feel guilty then maybe you can pay for dinner or something. But you really don’t have to Oscar.” Logan adds as he places a hand on Oscar’s shoulder. “Logan you have no idea what you’ve just done. I’ve wanted to go to an F1 race since I found out what F1 is and my house in Australia was pretty close to Albert Park but I never got the chance to go. You’re gonna make my dream come true and I might cry right now and I hate you for it.” Oscar says as he wipes at his eyes. Logan feels something warm blossom in his chest before he wraps his arms around Oscar. “You deserve it Oscar.” And Logan means every word of it.

When someone they know sees color for the first time it’s not who they expected. Liam comes barreling into class one day looking disheveled and like he’s just ran a marathon. “Dude what the hell happened to you?” Logan asks as he and Oscar sit next to the younger man. “I don’t…I ran straight to class from one of the music rooms. I was practicing on the piano and then one guy came in saying I’ve gone over my practice slot.” He explains as he tries to catch his breath. “He said it was fine and he was really nice about it. He was gonna practice for his cello recital and I was packing up my things while he was getting his things out. He was joking around and he really was funny and then I actually looked at him and he’s actually…really cute.” Liam says, his voice trailing off. “Then I just blinked and then it felt like flashlights were being shoved up at my face and then I must have stumbled because he was suddenly really close and asking me if I was okay.” He adds. “He seemed fine when he asked me so he’s still seeing things in grey.” A small frown sets on Liam’s lips when he adds that. “But are you okay?” Oscar asks as he places a hand on Liam’s shoulder to help ground him. “I’m a little dizzy. And confused.” He admits looking up at Oscar. “Let me take you to the infirmary. They should be able to help with the dizzy spell.” Oscar says as he helps Liam up. “You’ll be late for class.” Liam protest weakly. “That doesn’t matter. Logan’ll cover for me. We need to make sure you’re okay which is more important.” Oscar says as he holds Liam up. “I’ll cover for you guy. I’ll make something up so don’t worry.” Logan says, the last part more for Liam as he offers him a reassuring smile. Logan watches them head to the infirmary. He spends the rest of class wondering if Liam’s okay and going through the things he said. How the other guy, supposedly Liam’s soulmate, still sees in grey while Liam can see in full color now. Logan’s always heard that when you meet your soulmate that you’ll know it’s them and not just because you’re finally seeing things in full color. Can Liam have really just met his soulmate just because he thought he was cute? Logan spends the rest of the day spacing out until he comes back to their room to see Liam tucked in Oscar’s bed while Oscar was reading a book on his desk. “Hey.” Oscar greets him as he drops his bag on the floor. “They gave him something to make him feel sleepy so he won’t strain his eyes. He’s still confused and his eyes are adjusting but he should be fine, as the nurse said.” Oscar updates Logan on how Liam’s doing. “That’s good. But what about, you know, the guy?” Logan asks as they speak in hushed tones to not wake Liam who was sleeping. “I checked on the page that posts the daily schedule of the music room and who’s gonna be using it at which time slot.” Oscar says. “You found him?” Logan asks. “Hmm. He’s a senior and I looked him up and I’m pretty sure I’m in the same advance class as one of his mates.” He says as he pulls up a profile on his instagram. “Alex Albon.” Oscar says as he hands Logan his phone. “Damn, do you think he knows about Liam?” Logan says. “Dunno. Not really sure how the whole soulmates thing work. But I did some quick research and it’s actually very common for two soulmates to see color at separate times. In some cases it’s a gradual thing but most common is like how Liam described it, a literal burst of color.” Oscar explains. “I think he should stay the night with us. He’s a little shook up and I know he won’t be in the right state to meet up with this Alex guy.” Oscar adds. “Okay, I get that. We can share my bed while Liam’s in yours.” Logan says. “Thanks. I was gonna sleep on the floor if I was honest.” Oscar says. “Do you mind watching over him while I get us dinner?” He asks as he grabs his wallet from his desk. “Yeah, of course. Just get me anything I don’t mind.” Logan says as he takes a seat next to Liam. Logan watches Oscar go before turning his attention back to Liam who was sleeping peacefully on Oscar’s bed. All the adults ever talked about was how finding your soulmate is the best thing that can happen to you. No one ever mentioned the sheer panic of finding your soulmate and not immediately seeing in color. How it’s left one of his close friends scared, confused and sad. Logan thinks if finding his soulmate is more trouble than it’s worth then maybe it’s better if they never meet.

Somehow the universe makes it work for Liam, just like it intended to. Though Oscar might have some hand in it when he found out through Alex’s best friend George who’s in the same class as he is that the older boy is gradually starting to see in color. They set it up for Alex to show up to the music room while Liam was in there practicing. Logan and Oscar were close by in case their friend freaks out and needs help. But Liam clearly didn’t need their help when an hour later he walks out from the music room hand in hand with Alex as they smile at each other as if nobody else in the world existed. “Can’t believe Liam beat us to it.” Logan says as they make their way back to their room. “Finding your soulmate isn’t a race.” Oscar says with a chuckle as he shakes his head at Logan. “I know but Liam was like our annoying little brother and he’s met his soulmate before either of us did.” Logan says. “Meh, I’m not too bothered with meeting mine anytime soon. I’m happy as is and I’m happy that Liam’s happy.” Oscar says with a shrug. “Yeah, he does look happy. But if he breaks Liam’s heart then I’ll have something to say about it.” Logan says crossing his arms. “I’m pretty sure Alex can take you on and not break a sweat with how tall he is.” Oscar says. “Screw you Piastri. I’m buff as hell.” Logan exclaims. “Nah, don’t see it.” Oscar teases as he opens the door to their room. “I’ll show you how buff I am.” Logan says before he picks Oscar up from behind. “Put me down you moron!” Oscar protests as he Logan tries to spin him around. “Say I’m hot and I’ll put you down.” Logan teases. “Your ego doesn’t need any more inflating. Now put me down!” Oscar shoots back before Logan eventually puts him down. They both end up laughing in the middle of their room. “You’re a good friend Logan. Liam’s lucky to have you.” Oscar says, his voice sincere. “Dude, you’re like my best friend. Don’t think I won’t threaten your soulmate if they ever hurt you when you find them.” Logan says as he lights shoves Oscar’s shoulder. “You’d do that for me?” Oscar asks. Logan nods and sends Oscar a smile. “I’d do anything for you bud.”

Sometimes Logan’s annoyed that his birthday is the same day as New Year’s Eve. It means he rarely had friends over growing up on his birthday since they’re welcoming the new year with their family. So of course Logan knew that Oscar would be back home in Australia during the holidays so when his parents asked where he wanted to spend his birthday he doesn’t even think twice when he says Melbourne. So his parents say yes and he calls up Marcus and Liam that he’s flying out to Australia and he’s staying long enough to explore New Zealand as well. But he asks them not to tell Oscar that he’s coming over. He only calls Oscar that he’s made it to his side of the world once he’s at the airport. Oscar beats him to his hotel and was greeted by Oscar by him calling Logan a dickhead and pulling him into a bone crushing hug. “Liam and Marcus won’t get here until the 30th so you have two days to be my tour guide. And then dad rented a yacht for us for my birthday. We can be watch the countdown from there.” Logan says when they’re making their way to Logan’s hotel room. “If you’d have told me you were coming over I would have offered you our guest room.” Oscar says as he plops on the massive bed in Logan’s hotel room. “It’s fine. I want to enjoy being here with you. Not you fussing over me.” Logan says as he opens one of the complimentary bottles of sparkling water. “Mate, it’s literally my job to fuss over you. Forgetting to eat lunch, leaving your jersey under my bed somehow. You’d be lost without me.” Oscar says as he snatches the fancy water Logan was drinking. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t rub it in Piastri.” He says as he rolls his eyes at Oscar. “You need to shower, get changed and I’m taking you to the best place in town for dinner.” Oscar says as he looks at Logan pointedly. “Gonna wine and dine me?” Logan teases as he starts unpacking. “You wish. Plus I know you’re not easy.” Oscar shoots back. “Fine. But can you order me some coffee and something light to snack on? Airplane food isn’t my thing.” Logan asks before he pulls out a fluffy bathrobe from one of the cabinets in his room. “Sandwich and chips okay? We can share?” Oscar asks and Logan sends him a thumbs up before Oscar hears the sound of the shower running. The food and coffee get there just as Logan finishes up in the shower and comes out wrapped in the fluffy robe. Oscar was mid-bite when Logan steps back out into the room. “I feel a little bit more human after that.” Logan says as he runs his hands through his damn hair. It’s only when he looks up that he notices the sandwich Oscar was holding and his mouth slightly agape. “See something you like?” Logan teases and he watches as Oscar snaps himself out of whatever trance he was in before he puts down his food without even taking a bite. “Whatever mate. Make sure you dress nice tonight.” Oscar says. “I knew it. You’re taking me out on a date.” Logan shoots back as he pulls out a pair of jeans and a short-sleeved button down shirt. “No. I’m taking you to my house. Told my mom you’re here and she said to bring you over and she’ll make something nice for dinner tonight.” Oscar says before he nibbles on a fry. “Straight to meeting the parents then. You move fast Piastri.” Logan says before he unties the robe he’s wearing to slip on his jeans. Oscar was about to say something when he looks up to see Logan half-dressed in jeans and was about to put his shirt on. “I could leave you to starve tonight.” Oscar says but there’s no real bite to his words as Logan smirks at him. “Dude, you’ve seen me in less clothes before. Don’t tell me you’re suddenly hot for me.” Logan teases as he picks up the other half of the grilled cheese sandwich Oscar ordered for them. “I haven’t seen you in almost a month. You look different that’s all.” Oscar says with a shrug. “A gym opened up that’s like a 10 minute walk from my house. Been going there since I got back to Florida.” Logan says. “You look good.” Oscar says, almost regretting it when Logan returns it with a smirk. “Thanks babe.” He says with a wink as Oscar steals another fry from the plate. Annoyingly for Oscar, his family instantly fall in love with Logan. His mom and grandmother adore him and how he loves the food they keep feeding him. Even his dad is glad he finally has someone to talk sports with. And then there’s his three sisters. Asking Oscar if Logan is single and he could have sworn one of them squealed how handsome Logan is. Even more annoying for Oscar is that he totally understands his family’s reaction to Logan. So he resigns himself to just letting them fawn over Logan. Leave him to be fussed over by some other Piastri for once.

When Liam and Marcus joined them they can immediately tell something was up. It was the way Liam can’t keep a straight face and the gaudy dark sunglasses Marcus was wearing that gives it away. “Marcus you look like shit.” Logan says, not holding back when they meet the older Kiwi. “Cheers. It’s what going on a wine tasting tour does to a man.” Marcus says which only makes Liam snort with laughter. “Okay, what are we missing here?” Oscar asks as he gives the two a pointed look. “Marcus can see in color.” Liam says which earns him an elbow to the stomach. “Dude, holy shit. Who?” Logan asks. “He was on the same wine tasting tour and I thought he looked good. His name sounded stupidly French but he’s lived in England long enough to pick up the accent.” Marcus says. “We might have enjoyed wine tasting together too much and had some fun together that same night. Woke up to a too bright room and a splitting headache next to a handsome man and we can both see in color. So we decided to celebrate by going for round 2, if you know what I mean.” Marcus adds. “That is the most Marcus story I’ve heard.” Oscar says. “What’s his name and where is he now?” Logan asks. “His name is Clement but I call him Clem or Clemmy. He runs a wine bar in London and he’s still in New Zealand continuing his quest for the best wine.” Marcus says. “He could have come. I don’t mind.” Logan shrugs. “Nah, it’s fine that you’ve dragged me away from my soulmate to spend your birthday on a fancy yacht on New Year’s eve.” Marcus says. “I hate you.” Logan shoots back. “Thanks. Clem helped me pick out a few bottles of the good stuff so we can celebrate New Year and Logan getting old properly.” Marcus says as he holds up a box full of bottles. They all board the yacht that Logan’s parents rented for them and they each get their own cabin, Logan getting the biggest room since it was his birthday. The yacht was pretty big for only four boys on board but Logan wouldn’t have it any other way. The kitchen was well-staffed but Logan tells them that they could join them celebrating when the night winds down. They sing happy birthday to Logan during dinner time and enjoy some of the wine Marcus brought with him. Liam and Marcus give Logan their presents. Liam got him a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses. He earned approving nods when he tried them on. Marcus got him a silk necktie that he says is in a navy color that suits Logan well. They all look at Oscar as if waiting for him to give his gift to Logan. “I already played tour guide to him and welcomed him into my home, I think that’s a good enough gift.” Oscar says. They all chuckle and tease Oscar that he was being a cheapskate. When it was time for the countdown, they all make their way to the deck of the yacht to join in counting down to the new year and to watch the fireworks. They greet each other a happy new year as Logan slings an arm around Oscar and they grin at each other so wide Logan can feel his cheeks hurt. The two of them stay that way as they watch Liam and Marcus call their respective soulmates. Alex greets Logan happy birthday through FaceTime and he thanks the older boy and wishes him a happy new year and assuring him that they won’t let Liam fall overboard. Marcus introduces them to Clem through his phone and says that he’d love to meet all of them in person when they’re all back in London. The rest of the night they spend lounging on the deck chairs and swapping stories what they’ve been up to during the winter break. Neither Logan or Oscar even bothered letting go of each other as they stayed glued to each other. When Marcus started slurring his words it was time for them to call it a night. Logan and Liam help Marcus back to his room while Oscar’s already back in his cabin. When Logan was heading back to his room, he spots Oscar waiting for him by the door. “So I actually got you a present, or more like I made you one, but you can’t make fun of me because I asked help from my grandma making it.” Oscar says before he pulls out a square box from behind his back and opens it to reveal a cupcake. “It’s vanilla with chocolate frosting. I told grandma you like the two flavors together.” Oscar says. He pulls out a single candle and places it on top of the cupcake before he lights it and presents it to Logan. “Make a wish.” Oscar says, smiling softly at Logan. Logan feels himself sober up as he takes in Oscar holding the cupcake that he made for Logan, for his birthday, for him. Logan smiles at Oscar before he closes his eyes and he blows out the candle. ’I wish it’s you’ Logan throws out to the universe, wishing faith would understand what he was asking for. When Logan opens his eyes he sees Oscar smiling at him, god he’s so beautiful, always has been and Logan wishes he’s admitted that to himself a lot sooner. But he was dismayed when he opened his eyes and the world was still grey. When Logan goes to bed that night he lays down accepting his fate that he’s very much in love with Oscar Piastri and sends a little ’sorry’ to the universe for whoever his soulmate is because his heart already belongs to someone else.

The next morning, Logan woke up to a splitting headache which he expected with how good the wine Marcus brought was. But what he didn’t expect was the brightness that felt like was attacking him and pain from behind his eyes as he blinks them open. Logan felt like he woke up in another world. Everything he saw last night that was in grey was suddenly a different shade that he doesn’t know what to call. He can see out the window that they’re still at sea and he vaguely remembers that the sea and sky are the same color, blue. Logan can feel himself start to panic and part of him wishes he has someone to tell him what’s going on and what to do. Usually that person would be Oscar but then last night comes rushing back in. How the last person Logan saw before going to bed and waking up seeing in full color was Oscar. And his birthday wish, how he wished that Oscar would end up being his soulmate, the universe can be a bitch sometimes. He quickly searches videos on his phone about when you finally see in color and quick tutorials about distinguishing color. He must have taken forever that Oscar ended up knocking on his room saying that he’s missing breakfast and they’ll head back to the harbor soon. “Mate you okay?” Oscar says from the other side of his bedroom door. “Uh, yeah. Just too hungover from last night.” Logan says, which isn’t a complete lie. “Yeah, you do sound rough. Do you want me to get you a coffee and something to eat?” Oscar offers. “No, no. I’m fine. I’ll just get dressed and join you guys for coffee. Don’t wait for me.” Logan says. He tries to compose himself and pick clothes for him to wear for breakfast. Logan picks out what he now knows is a pair of white shorts and a blue button-down shirt and puts on the sunglasses Liam gave him. Logan calms himself down before he walks out of his room and joins his friends for breakfast. The first one who notices is Liam. He makes a comment about the outfit he’s wearing. “Looks really good on you. Blue really is your color.” Liam says before he takes a sip of his coffee. “Uh, thanks. I’ll take your words for it.” Logan says, trying to keep his answer neutral. “So who wants mimosas for breakfast?” Marcus asks as he waves around a bottle of champagne. “None for Logan. He looks like crap.” Oscar says as he sits down next to him. And god, Logan almost lost his cool when Oscar sits next to him and smiles at him. If Oscar was beautiful when his vision was still in grey, he was a sight to behold in full color. His smile was radiant and his hair was the perfect shade the compliments his skin. And his eyes, god his eyes, they were pools of green that Logan was willing to drown in for the rest of his life. “Beautiful day to start the year.” Marcus says as he sips on his cocktail. “Blue skies and crystal clear seas.” He adds. “Isn’t that right Oscar?” He grins at Oscar who only shrugs at him. “Dunno. Vision’s still in grey mate.” Oscar says. And Logan feels his heart drop. Oscar was still seeing things in grey. What if this is just Logan’s wish coming true that Oscar is his soulmate but he wasn’t the one for Oscar? What if he was destined to love Oscar without Oscar ever loving him back? “Logan? You look a little green. Are you sure you’re okay?” Liam asks him. “I think I’m gonna be sick.” Logan says before he runs back to his cabin. He barely makes it back before he hurls the contents of his stomach. He feels a hand rubbing circles on his back but he knows it’s not Oscar. Logan turns around to see Liam has followed him back to his cabin. “Just let it out. Alcohol and seeing things in color for the first time are not the best combination.” Liam says as he offers Logan a gentle smile. “You can tell?” Logan mumbles as he wipes his mouth. “You have the worst fashion sense when your vision was still grey. So you showing up in that outfit, all coordinated, was a sign.” Liam says. “It’s him isn’t it? Oscar?” Liam asks and Logan nods yes. “I think we all knew that it was always going to be you and Oscar in the end. It was just a matter of time of when the world will show you.” Liam adds. “But he still sees in grey.” Logan says. Liam pats him on the back and smiles at him. “Give it time. It took Alex 3 days before he started to see color.” Liam says and, god, Logan wishes he’s right.

When they disembark from the yacht, they all head back to Oscar’s house. Oscar’s offered their guest room to Marcus and Liam while Logan was staying with Oscar in his room. They were all standing in the middle of the Piastri’s guest room when Logan asks Liam to swap with him. “But why? We’ve always been cool sharing a bed. And I don’t think Liam is.” Oscar says as he looks at Logan quizzically. “I just…my back hurts.” Logan says. And Oscar ends up looking even more confused. “I can sleep on the floor and you can take the bed.” Oscar says. “I can’t kick you out of your own bed. I’ll sleep on the floor.” Logan insists. “I thought you said your back hurts? Sleeping on the floor would hurt your back even more.” Oscar says. “Woah, woah. Guys, calm down.” Marcus steps in. “What if I share Oscar’s bed with him and Logan can have my bed?” Marcus volunteers but Oscar frowns. “I’m not comfortable sharing a bed with anyone else except for Logan.” Oscar say and they could almost hear a pin drop after Oscar’s revelation. “Logan can take my bed. I’ll sleep on the floor. It’s only for a few days anyways.” Oscar says in a firm voice that leaves no room for arguments. “Where’s your room anyways?” Marcus asks Oscar. “The one down the hall. The blue door.” Oscar says. Liam looks at Oscar and Marcus’ face starts to form a grin. “So you know your bedroom door is blue then?” Marcus asks and Oscar’s cheeks start to turn pink. “It’s what my mom told me. She told me my door is blue.” Oscar stammers out, not meeting anyone’s gaze. “You’re lying Piastri. You’re starting to see color.” Marcus calls him out. Oscar was full on blushing by this point and Logan was stunned to see his best friend react in such a way he’s never seen. “Oscar? Is it true?” Logan asks and this time Oscar meets his eyes. “I’m not…I’m not sure.” Oscar says. “I still see most things in grey except for some of the darker colors I’m trying to distinguish.” He adds. “Since when?” Logan asks. “When you left during breakfast to throw up. I felt like I was getting a headache and then I blinked my eyes a couple of times and I started to see some color.” Oscar says. Logan could feel something inside of him screaming as he steps closer towards Oscar. “I woke up this morning being able to see in full color.” Logan says and he watches Oscar’s eyes go wide. “When you told me to make a wish last night I wished for you to be my soulmate.” Logan admits and he’s suddenly so close to Oscar he could reach out and touch him. “I’ve wanted it to be you when you got us tickets to Silverstone.” Oscar says as he reaches for Logan’s hands. “You’ve always been beautiful even when I saw things in grey but now I think I could look at you forever.” Logan says as he squeezes Oscar’s hands. “Me and Liam are gonna leave so you two can finally kiss.” Marcus says before he drags the younger Kiwi out with him. “Congrats guys!” Liam shouts over his shoulder before the door closes and the two of them are finally alone. “So we were always suppose to fall in love, huh?” Logan asks with a chuckle. “Looks like it.” Oscar shoots back, a smile starting for form on his lips and Logan’s so tempted to lean in and kiss him. “You can kiss me by the way.” Oscar says, as if reading his mind. “But you’re gonna have to deal with me getting headaches for the next few days while my eyes adjust to all the colors.” Oscar says. Logan presses their foreheads together before closing his eyes. “Baby I’ll take care of you for the rest of our lives if you let me kiss you right now.” When he opens his eyes he’s met with Oscar’s own eyes staring at him. “Your eyes are like if the sea met the sky.” Oscar says. “You’re the prettiest boy I’ve ever seen in my life Oscar Piastri.” Logan says before he feels Oscar’s lips on his. And he finally gets it. When they say you’ll know when you meet your soulmate. Kissing Oscar just felt so fundamentally right, like it was something he’s always been meant to do. He feels Oscar sway a little and Logan was quick to steady the older boy. “You okay?” Logan asks as Oscar blinks his eyes open. “More color’s coming in now.” Oscar says as he holds on to Logan a little. “You wanna sit down?” Logan asks. “Kiss me more. Maybe I’ll feel better.” Oscar says, already leaning in. Logan can only chuckle and give Oscar what he wants. And really that’s pretty much been the story of Logan’s life ever since Oscar cam into it. He’d give him anything he wants and do anything he’d ask Logan to do. And if this time Oscar says he wants him then who was he to deny his soulmate what he wants?
