tsukasa was absent, as he fell ill with a cold. always a bummer for the fanatical rui kamishiro, tsukasa’s ‘partner in crime.’
during lunch time, he found himself walking to the rooftop almost subconsciously, perhaps due to tsukasa’s nonappearance. as if he was sleepwalking, as if he was looking for something— someone.
someone who only showed up to school on certain days, someone he missed dearly everytime he didn’t find them. someone, who he found himself thinking of much too often.
as he walked up the steps, his heart beat faster with anticipation. did he really have a crush on mizuki?
maybe he did. he had inventions in his room based off of them. everytime he saw a ribbon, too, he couldnt help but buy it for them. he adored everytime mizuki would nag him for his horrible sense in fashion. the way the two shared an area, the way he felt around them.
rui pulled at his uniform’s tie, wishing to see that red ribbon.
he pushed on the door. “mizuki?”
he walked further, and they sat in the corner almost as if they were waiting for him.
“rui!” they exclaimed, happily greeting him and standing up. they hugged him.
rui’s face flushed. “mizuki… what’s this about?”
“akito told me tsukasa ditched, so i decided to come in for today.” mizuki let go, and twirled at the front strand of their hair.
“ah, mizuki treats me so well~” he smiled, and sat down against the fencing. he glanced at all the people gathered outside, and then at mizuki who had sat down next to him.
they had been talking casually, before mizuki asked something specific.
“do you like anyone, rui?” mizuki grinned, as if expecting a specific answer. rui got a bit flustered, as it was quite sudden.
“sure.” rui smiled, deciding to play dumb. perhaps he was overthinking mizuki’s question a bit too much. “i like lots of people.”
mizuki laughed. “you do, huh?”
“i adore one much more than the others, i think.” rui averted his gaze to the singular ring he wore, a gift from mizuki.
mizuki made a noise, something similar to a half gasp. was it that shocking? rui wasn’t sure. “ah…” they said, not pushing him to say more like he expected.
“i’ve thought about it alot, you know?” rui continued, waiting for a reaction. he glanced at mizuki to find them staring back at him. “ah… i think…”
mizuki made a light hum. “hm…?”
“i think spending my life making sure you’d never be alone again, wouldn’t be bad. i really…” he moved his hand to touch mizuki’s, and he could feel his heart beating abnormally quick.
mizuki’s heartrate also sped up, as they were merely asking for shits and giggles. though, they never thought spending their life with rui would be so bad either. at the feeling of rui’s hand, their heart and face warmed.
a breeze started up, and the fencing rattled ever so slightly. the sky turned to a pale blue, with grey clouds scattering about.
at the lack of response, rui began to ramble. his hand was shakey as he spoke, “it’s— ah, just a thought..“
though, mizuki forcibly cut him off by getting noticeably closer. rui stammered something that mizuki didn’t register.
now on their knees, mizuki pulled rui forward. they could feel his shock as they tilted their head slightly and put their lips onto his own. they kissed him gently, until they felt rui’s body become less tense. the taste of rui’s chapstick, the feeling of having him so close and the excitement of the moment was compelling.
mizuki pulled away, and as the two were catching their breath, they heard footsteps.
“oh, my.” rui nonchalantly stated. the two had clearly just been kissing, noticible by the fact mizuki’s lipstick smeared on rui’s lips.
mizuki had not thought through how they were on a school rooftop. the door flung open with a familiar voice and two faces.
akito’s voice rang out. “oi, akiyama! an said the teachers want all the students bac— kamishiro-senpai?!”
rui and mizuki smiled innocently.
touya merely glanced at them, then akito.
“uhm.. an said you were up here. just come back in, okay?” akito, still a bit shocked, dragged touya back in muttering about how he knew something was up with them.
mizuki and rui glanced at eachother, before breaking into laughter. rui embarrassedly helped mizuki get up, and they ended up ditching kamikou and skipped the rest of that day.
