Gwen let out a loud groan.
“You're gonna be late for work Gwennie” MJ rubbed circles into her back. Gwen pressed her head further into the redhead's neck and let out a soft moan.
Last night had been a long and rough patrol. Her injuries from the night before were still healing and every muscle in her body ached.
“Gwen-”
“I'll call in sick” She mumbled into MJ’s neck.
The desperation in her voice had completely convinced MJ. She knew how difficult it was for the girl so she wrapped her arms around the girl and allowed her to get a much-needed rest.
“Just this once,” MJ remarked.
“Fuck” The blonde muttered. She lifted herself to meet MJ face-to-face. “I didn't think you'd agree."
Gwen had tried to opt out of work many times. MJ always pushed her into going and greeted her with a nice cup of cocoa (her favorite) when she returned from her own job.
This time was different, MJ could tell. Dark purple circles covered Gwen’s under eyes and multiple bruises covered her body. A good rest had been long overdue for the girl and now was a great time to take the opportunity.
MJ lifted her hands to cup the superhero’s plump cheeks. “Stay,” She insisted.
A light smile invaded Gwen’s features. “I shouldn't.”
MJ planted a soft kiss on the girl’s lips and wrapped her arms around her waist. “Please, Gwen."
The blonde’s breath hitched. She couldn't possibly leave now, wrapped in her girlfriend’s embrace, being asked to stay. And God she really wanted to stay.
“Okay,” Gwen caved. She flopped back down onto MJ’s chest and settled back into her previous position.
Only a few moments of peace passed before something cold pressed into her back. Gwen lifted her head with a small “hm?"
MJ was waving the girl's phone. “Call first," she chimed.
Gwen let out a groan. She grabbed the phone and began to dial the number, unmoving from the girl’s chest.
MJ squeezed the blonde and planted a soft kiss on her head. The action made the two smile.
The sun was completely out, and most people were already up and getting on with their day but the couple was preparing for a long-awaited rest and they couldn't be happier.
