Work Text:

Many people came up to Dongmin during breakfast, patted him on the back with a solemn face, and walked away. With the first pat, his jaw ticked; with the second, his eyebrow twitched; with the third, his jaw clenched; with the fourth, he kept down his soup spoon for a minute; with the fifth, he took out his diary; and by the time he finished his breakfast, he had filled up at least 2 pages with names and houses of whoever patted him.

He sighed and tried to relax but the moment he heard footsteps approaching him, his back straightened and his jaw clenched harder. Dongmin picked up his pen and waited for the pity pat and words that would follow. His grip on the pen tightened when he felt the hand make contact with his shoulder, but he relaxed the moment the person squeezed both his shoulders with a simple 'hey' and a kiss to his cheek.

Dongmin fell back onto the person's chest and sighed in relief.

"Morning hyuk-ah~" Dongmin smiled and looked up at the boy who grinned at him before pecking his lips. Minhyuk hugged him tighter and kissed his forehead again.

Dongmin held the younger's hand and lead him to sit down beside himself. He smiled at Minhyuk and just stared at him for a moment. And for a while Minhyuk entertained him before he flushed red and turned to look at the table.

"You already ate?" Minhyuk pouted and poured himself a glass of milk and started sipping. Dongmin hummed and further rested his cheek on his palm of his left hand while he held Minhyuk's hand with the other.

Dongmin loved to look at Minhuk, at the soft curve of his cheekbones, his cute little nose, his big boba eyes, his acne scars, his teeny tiny ears, his soft black hair. Dongmin was pretty sure he could stare at his soulmate for hours on end, and wax poetic about him all day, every day.

Minhyuk peeked at him from the corner of his eye as he drank milk, and he did it a few times before keeping the empty glass down and shyly tucking some loose strands of his hair behind his ear.

"What?" Minhyuk lisped when he was flustered and tried to take his hand back from Dongmin. The older just smiled dreamily and smiled.

"You're so pretty hyuk, I wish I could look at you all day." Dongmin's eyes sparkled and grew impossibly bigger when Minhyuk sputtered and rested his face on their joined hands.

"Hyung, not this early!" Minhyuk whined and pouted with his pink cheeks, the slightly overgrown hair he had tucked behind his ear came loose again. And who do you think Dongmin was? Of course he tucked them before Minhyuk could do it himself.

Minhyuk turned to look at him before hiding his face again when Dongmin didn't stop staring. The older giggled before kiss the top of Minhyuk's head and making him sit up.

"What do you want to eat?" Dongmin picked up a plate and looked over all the food that was left on the table.

"I'll just have some toast. I have Transformation in first lecture." Minhyuk mumbled and sat straighter.

As he chewed on his toast, Minhyuk could feel Dongmin's eyes on him again and it once again warmed his cheeks. Minhyuk liked this attention from his Slytherin soulmate. No matter how flustered it left him, he loved the way Dongmin looked at him. He looked at Minhyuk with so much love, so much tenderness, it melted him like muggle chocolate on a sunny day. Minhyuk liked to look at his boyfriend too, but he never seemed to be able to do it so directly.

Minhyuk looked at him with subtle gaze, in the library, during quidditch practice, while Dongmin napped on his lap in the courtyard, when they sat on the staircase and listened to music together. It was these moments in which Minhyuk preferred to look at Dongmin, when the older was occupied. Minhyuk was a bashful kid, sue him.

Dongmin was smiling at a zoned out Minhyuk nibbling on his toast, god he wished he could take a photo of Minhyuk right now. Dongmin's heart hummed and he could feel his skin thrumming with satisfaction. Finding one's soulmate was a very fateful event. And Dongmin will always be grateful to fate.

"Hey man, I'm so sorry it didn't go well for you. You did good." And just like that the couple's peaceful bubble was poked. Dongmin looked at the boy, it was Hermes Switch from Gryffindor, Year 6 if he wasn't wrong.

Dongmin's eyes hardened before nodding and the boy walked away with a smile. Minhyuk watched him go with an open mouth.

"Hyung what the fuck? Have they been bothering you today too?" Minhyuk kept the toast on his plate and turned to look at the older who just groaned and nodded.

"I am the head boy hyukie, and that was my last quidditch match. They've all been waiting for this moment, and now that I've failed-"

"It wasn't you!"

"- they just took the opportunity." Dongmin shrugged and quickly wrote down the name and house in his diary.

"You didn't fail though! It was your chaser!" Minhyuk huffed and bit at his toast, already knowing what the older would say. They've had this conversation multiple times in the past week.

"I'm the captain, I am responsible." Dongmin said and checked the time. "Now, eat up quickly, I'll walk to your lecture."

Minhyuk scrunched his nose and chewed exaggeratedly. Dongmin also sighed exaggeratedly and then bit Minhyuk's cheek.

"Cuteness aggression!" Dongmin said and lifted both his hands. Minhyuk opened his mouth to show Dongmin his semi-chewed toast and this time, Dongmin backed away in disgust.

"Why!" Dongmin whined and Minhyuk giggled to himself. He quickly finished his breakfast after that and stood up.

Dongmin looked at him, shook his head and stood up too. He took the younger's hand and leaned down to brush his nose with his own. And of course, Minhyuk's cheeks pinked again.

They walked down the hallway together and unlike how Dongmin responded to every single person who wished him, Dongmin chose to focus on his Ravenclaw boyfriend. Minhyuk liked to talk when he walked, he talked about everything, anything really. Yesterday, they talked about Hufflepuff's prefect, Park Jinwoo, and his silly but sweet rants about his best friend Myungjun's pranks. Today Minhyuk was telling Dongmin about the time he spent with Moon Bin and Yoon Sanha at The Three Broomsticks last week, again.

Sometimes, Dongmin sits and looks through the recent events in his life. His life has been hectic, he was the head boy, and this is his last year. He's been studying tirelessly for his NEWTS. And regardless of his boyfriend's sweet requests (read: demands), Dongmin could only spare his meal-times to actually talk and be with the younger. They study together, but nothing more than that ever happens. His life has been very chaotic with everything, but he was glad he had Minhyuk.

Minhyuk, his soulmate, was the sweetest. He is even better than what Dongmin ever imagined his soulmate to be.

"Hyung I'll see you later okay?" Minhyuk leaned up and Dongmin kissed him sweetly before the younger went to his lecture, squeaking when he saw all his classmates looking at him with big big smiles.

Dongmin smiled to himself. He really did love Minhyuk, huh.
