With These Hands

Summary:

Weyler Week Day 7!
Grave Digging is a great date, Grave Robbing is even better!

Notes:

Welcome to Weyler Week Day 7
Prompt: Hands

It is short and sweet, basically I've lost my mojo, but definitely wanted to get this out before I changed my mind!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The pleasant weight could be felt all the way up in her shoulder, fed from her left arm and tugged insistently on her left ring finger. It still occasionally caught her eye, stopping herself mid stride to appreciate it. She even found herself gazing at it as she picked up her fork, taking another bite of their slice of the dark cherry and chocolate cake for the occasion.

Tyler had always made an effort to make sure his dates with Wednesday were something she would enjoy. She had grown to appreciate the gesture, whilst being sure to pay it back with her own date suggestions. This however was a supremely planned date. They had been visiting her family over the weekend and Tyler had organized a surprise date whilst they visited. She had thought her family would request their attention for every waking moment, but after a brief dinner they had thankfully allowed them to retire for the evening.

It was just past midnight when Tyler shook her awake. He suggested she dress in warm practical clothes because he had a surprise date for them to go on immediately. Wednesday was a little intrigued, but as she stood in the half-dug grave of an ancestor she was elated. Her family graveyard was one of her favorite places to visit.

She had always enjoyed grave digging as a child and had mentioned it many times to Tyler. The escapades her and Pugsley had been involved in where often recounted as fond memories. To be sharing such a past time with him now was exciting, however this certainly also stirred a different emotion within her.

She enjoyed the manual labor of digging in to the earth with Tyler by her side. His technique was close to perfect, yet it was his strong hands that held her focus. She had seen them covered in blood and with a dusting of coffee grounds, but to see them with soil from a grave was different. Every rough patch of skin or wrinkle between his joints was highlighted by the dark soil.

The inevitable thunking of their shovels against the coffin lid sent a thrill through Wednesday bones. She looked up in anticipation at Tyler. He laughed at her clear excitement, almost vibrating with unrestrained joy.

“You are like a child on Christmas morning?”

“Why would anyone ever be filled with anticipation for Christmas morning?” She queried.

Tyler only laughed before wedging his shovel under the coffins lid, prying it off. He had to turn away at the unpleasant smell being released before peering back down. Wednesday had instead lent forward to inhale the scent of decay. A smile stretching across her face. It had been too long since her last grave digging and she had truly missed it.

She smiled up at Tyler as she crouched to inspect the corpse. He smiled down at her fondly in return.

“So, your Mum said this was your great Aunt?” Tyler asked in question.

“That’s correct, a well-known black widow of her day. They suspect she killed five of her husbands, but many were never found to prove it.” Wednesday said proudly.

Tyler crouched beside her, looking down at her vintage clothing and skeletal remains.

“So, some of them may have escaped before they met an untimely end?” He joked.

“No, they only found five of their bodies.” Wednesday corrected him.

He smiled back, an all-knowing look gracing his features. Wednesday was observing the colouring to her bones when Tyler leant forward and brutally snapped a finger back.

“What are you doing?” She asked inquisitively.

“Well, she has no use for it anymore.” He surmised as he slipped a large black diamond ring from her left ring finger.

“You didn’t tell me we were grave robbing too.” Wednesday excitedly said, her eyes feasting over the remains for something of interest.

Tyler was quick to block her actions with one arm out in front of her, as the other placed the lid of the coffin back in place. As Tyler stood over the coffin, Wednesday raised herself to argue over his selfish actions. She opened her mouth to prepare to berate him, when he kneeled down on one knee before her.

“Wednesday Friday Addams, I’ll dig any grave you ever request, my own included. I’ll go anywhere you ever request, as long as it’s with you. I don’t want to be friends; I don’t want to be more than friends. I want you.”

She looked down at his earnest eyes, a dusting of sweat sticking his curls to his forehead.  He looked to not be breathing, one hand holding his wrist with the other presenting the dark ring between his dirty fingers.

Wednesday pursed her lips in contemplation. She had not thought of a future with him by her side, yet the idea of him not being there was not acceptable. The odds of her finding herself intrigued enough to have another relationship were slim. Would it be possible to find another monster so grotesque yet tolerable in its human? Tolerable was also a low bar to have set in its self.

Slowly a smile formed across her lips. Standing over the skeletal remains of her relation was a monster who she loved, asking if they could spend their eternity together, what more could she want.

“Yes.”

Tyler quickly slid the gold ring on to her thin finger, rubbing his thumb over the dark diamond, giving it a quick clean.

"Mother helped you, didn't she?" Wednesday asked as he stood up before her.

"I had planned to approach your Father before dinner, but your Mother found me instead."

Wednesday rolled her eyes at her Mother's interfering.

"She actually told me you'd despise me for asking your Father's permission and then told me your Aunt's grave, second from the end, was in need of robbing." He smiled fondly.

Wednesday took a step forward raising her left hand to his cheek, pressing the cold ring against his skin, before kissing his lips. "And the shovels?" She questioned.

"I didn't leave them at the front door, Lurch must have set them out at your Mother's request." He chuckled.

Suddenly his hand was holding on to hers, raising it to his lips, offering it a gentle kiss. Her gaze left their hands and found his eyes. The infatuation was clear, that’s what it had been from the day their eyes had met through the steam of the coffee machine. Infatuation with one another.

Notes:

I like to think Tyler had the idea and Morticia helped facilitate it.

Originally I was going to write how Tyler asked Gomez, and Morticia had seen it in a vision so she suggested where to get a ring for Wednesday, but as I said it has been a crazy week! So let's settle for this and pray someone else writes a great version of it in the future!
