A coffee or a drink, it’s on me

Summary:

"Hey… bug?" Andrés huffed at the name, looking up at Jin from where he was standing behind the counter. Bug? What the fuck was bug?

"Bug? What do you want?" He mumbled with a sigh, brushing his hair out of his eyes as he looked at the register. Andrés never understood why she came here all the time, but maybe she was only bothering him because he went to her work place all the time.

"Yeah, you know, yucky bugs on the ground- anyway, you got iced coffee?" Jin asked, tucking her hair behind her ears and taking off her gloves, shoving them into her pockets before looking over at him again with a small smile.

Or; Jin is a bartender and Andrés is a barista (and they hate eachother, kinda)

Work Text:

Dried leaves crunched under the heavy steps of his boots, he tucked his hands into the pockets of his jacket with half lidded eyes and a slight huff. Andrés mindlessly kicked a rock that was on the floor, pulling his gloved hand out to rub his nose. He was freezing! He really should not have taken a shower before going out.

His hair was slightly wet, and he felt like it was gonna freeze into little icicles and break off his head if he continued staying out in the streets like this, but he did not feel like going home and staying alone there anyway. It was not his fault Rowan forced him into the shower earlier.

Andrés huffed again, looking along the road, furrowing his brows at the groups of people along it. All of them had large coats and gloves, classic winter weather and he really never knew why people liked the season so much. He hated the feeling of wool, especially with the gloves and scarves he was always sent for Christmas… but hey, at least he was not getting those wool sweaters anymore, and at least he was not dying out of hypothermia.

He stopped by Rowan’s work place, spotting them still working. He did not want to disturb them, so he continued walking. Maybe something will keep him busy if he was lucky enough, he has had a long day after all, he really needs a distraction. Something like a- oh! That bar!

He takes off his beanie as he walks in, shoving it into his pocket as he looks around. It was not too crowded, that was something good. Andrés sighed, stepping up and taking a seat at the corner of the bar. He watched the bartender from afar, face pressed into his palm which reminded him to take off his glove.

Looking at the bartender, they were quite tall, long black hair tied up with a clip… and hell , their shirt looked ever so slightly tight on them and- no way. Forget all thoughts of them being attractive because ew! Why did they turn around? He wanted to leave immediately, but she was approaching him from behind the bar now and oh god.

“Well… Andrés, great to see you again she muttered as she leaned over, resting her elbows against the bar, her voice rather annoyed maybe? He could not tell, he never did, he hoped she would just give him his order and leave.

“Jin.” Andrés huffed back, looking up at her, pushing brown bangs out of his eyes so he could see properly. Of course he had to see them, what has it been? Two years? Three years maybe? He lost track of how long ago college was.

“Who knew you drank? It's like a shock to see you here” Jin whistled, tilting her head to the side, almost in a mocking way… he hated it, he hated her. She always used that tone. He hated that tone.

“Who knew you worked here?” He grumbled back, tapping his fingers against the wood of the bar, pressing his tiptoes to the metal of the stool he sat on.

“What do you want?” She sighed, standing back up straight again, one hand on her hips as she waited for him to order.

“Beer,” Andrés replied blankly, staring off to the side, watching other people just minding their own business, having their own drinks.

“No fruity cocktail?” Jin mumbled, moving around to get his drink ready for him with a slight snicker. He could not see it, she had her back to him anyway.

“What? Why the hell would I even get that?” Andrés asked, his nose slightly scrunched up with furrowed eyebrows and he fiddled with his own hands. Jin only looks him up and down in return, a roll of her eyes as she went over towards him once again.

“Here! And a tip, don’t come back” she smiled brightly, sliding his drink over to him before the grin went off her face.

“Maybe I will,” he shrugged, sipping on his beer with a sigh, tapping the heels of his boots to the metal legs of the stool.

-

Jin yawned as she zipped down her jacket, taking out her phone with her umbrella held tight in her other hand as she walked down the street, heavy rain pouring from the sky, it was common, considering this hell of a season they were in. She hated rain with a passion, and today just had to be one of these days, huh?

The heels of her boots clicked behind her as she entered a cafe nearby, shaking the water out of her hair and closing her umbrella, hanging it by the door of the cafe so it can dry while she gets a drink or something. It was cold anyway, and it was far too early to drink anywhere else.

She walked over to the counter, taking off her gloves and shoving them into the pockets of her jeans as she stood in line, mindlessly scrolling through her phone, glancing up every once in a while at the barista that had caught her eyes.

“Why’re you here?” The barista asked when it was Jin’s turn, causing her to look up at him with a groan. Why him? This is like- the second time she sees him now!

“What? Can’t a guy get a coffee?” Jin huffed, rolling her eyes as they put her phone back in her pocket, leaning her forearms on the counter to look at the menu.

“Whatever, what do you want?” Andrés muttered, cleaning the area in front of him as he looked up at her, waiting for her to order.

“Uhh… hot chocolate” Jin mumbled, looking back over at him, tapping her nails on the counter.

“No fruit juice?” He mocked, tapping in her order within a few seconds. Of fucking course he remembered that, she did not think he would care about her comments, but obviously he did for some reason.

“Very funny” she sarcastically smiled with a huff, grabbing her wallet from one of her pockets, looking through it for a five dollar bill to pay.

“That’s twelve dollars!” Andrés spoke with an innocent smile on his face, causing her to raise an eyebrow as she looked up at him

“It’s- it says four dollars on the thing” Jin dropped her jaw in disbelief, pointing at the menu on the wall behind him.

“Yeah, and I paid twelve dollars for one beer when I went to your place, so I’m taking it back” He replied back, waiting for her to pay up and motioning for her to hurry up. There were other customers after all!

“You’re so annoying, oh my god” she huffed with a groan, paying him the amount he asked for with a roll of her eyes before walking away. She could have sworn she had heard him snicker behind her.

When she received her drink, she left the cafe in an instant. Opening her umbrella again and starting to walk once more. Jin mixed her drink around a bit, blowing lightly before taking a small sip, scrunching her nose at the taste as sticking her tongue out in disgust.

“He didn't- he didn't even put any sugar or milk, that- thing !” Jin groaned, throwing out the drink as she walked off with a huff of frustration. She could not believe he did not add the main ingredient of the damn drink!

-

“Ugh, you again” Jin groaned, watching Andrés sit in that same corner at the bar. She approached him, arms crossed in front of her chest as she hung up her jacket on a random hook.

“Why are you here?” She mumbled, puffing up her cheeks with air in frustration, trying to keep it in. There were other customers around after all, and he was the last person that she wanted to ruin her mood.

“What? Can’t a guy have a drink?” Andrés shrugged, remembering her words from the cafe and repeating them right to her face. She wanted to just… punch him, maybe, but that was a bit too less for her to do. Maybe she should spike his drink…

“Whatever.. you’re just trying to bother me aren’t you?” Jin grumbled, leaning against the bar so she was at his eye level.

“Maybe I am, maybe I'm not! Why do you care?” He shrugged, taking wool gloves off his hands as he looked up at her, his hair falling over his eyes as he looked up.

“What do you want to drink?” she muttered, eyes half lidded as she grabbed a hair clip from her pocket, tying her hair up so it was out of the way while she worked.

“Not now, I’m waiting for someone” Andrés replied, looking back at the door of the bar, then back at Jin when he did not find anyone. She only raised an eyebrow, standing up straight again so she can get something done.

-

Eye contact was not her thing, she knew it was not Andrés’ either, but when both of them were looking at each other, having some staring from across the bar while Jin worked around the shakers, it did not really matter, and it only pissed her off even more.

There was just something so annoying about his existence that made her want to- apparently open the top of a bottle a little too aggressively that it just hits him in the face… okay, that works!

“You’re such a dick!” Andrés huffed, rubbing his left eye where the top of the bottle hit him. Jin only snickered, giving the drink to the person who had ordered it before walking towards him.

“Your eye is red, Andrés” Jin giggled, leaning down to his level to look at the damage the action had done.

“If I get blind because of this, I’m making you pay for it” He muttered, blinking slowly and trying to stop the stinging in his eye with a groan.

“It’s not that bad, c’mere, let me see” she muttered, grabbing his face and pushing his hair out of his eyes, looking at his red eye with a wince.

“Not that bad?” Andrés asked, raising an eyebrow up at her as he moved his hand up to rub his eye again.

“Stop that! I’ll get something, wait!” Jin grumbled, slapping his hand away from his eye as she reached for a clean handkerchief in her coat.

“What’ll that do?” He huffed, rubbing his hand where she slapped him, scrunching his face when she put the cloth on his hurt eye.

“Stop. Moving.” She mumbled, keeping his head still as she leaned over to him, blowing air on his eye through the handkerchief then back away, looking at him with furrowed eyebrows again.

“What did that do?” Andrés asked again, moving the cloth off his face, raising his eyebrows in surprise when his vision cleared up a bit.

“It’s not red anymore, your welcome” jin crossed her arms in front of  her chest, standing up straight again as she continued looking down at him.

“Thanks” He muttered, trying to keep his hand down from rubbing his eyes again, looking up at her again.

“Now give me a tip in return!” She snickered, tucking her hands in her pockets as she leaned back against her heels.

“I didn’t even order!” Andrés grumbled, looking up at her in disbelief, watching her laugh as she turned and left.

“I can’t believe this” he mumbled to himself with a huff, looking down at the handkerchief with furrowed eyebrows, throwing it to the side when he noticed her lipstick mark on it, making a disgusted face before crossing his arms over his chest.

-

"Are you gonna keep coming here daily?" Andrés asked as he cleaned the tables of the cafe quickly. It was closing time, and he wanted to get over with this, but Jin was just being annoying again.

"Do you have a problem with everything I do?" Jin huffed, putting her hands in the pockets of her coat, shaking her head to move her hair out of her eyes.

"Don't you have work?" He asked, looking up at her as he moved over to the next table, flipping the chairs over them one by one.

"It's my day off" She replied, moving her hips from side to side as she grinned, keeping her hands in her pockets as she watched him clean.

"Then why are you here, man?" Andrés huffed, grabbing a broom so he could start sweeping the place.

"I'm bored… and you're the only person I can annoy" Jin jokingly whined, throwing her head back and spinning on the heel of her boot.

"I couldn't care less about you being bored" He grumbled, putting everything away and looking back at her again, seeming to be thinking of something.

"Stop staring at me like that, freak" She muttered, standing back up properly with a click of her heel.

Andrés scrunched his nose when she spoke, moving to close the lights of the cafe so he can lock the place for the night.

Jin groaned, following after him so she was not stuck in there for the rest of the night. She knew he would lock it even if she was inside… to be fair, she would do the same.

As Andrés walked down the street, Jin followed after him, humming to herself as they walked down the street, presumably to Andrés' place, but maybe not, it was a bit too early.

"Are you playing some tag along game?" Andrés asked as he put on his possibly worn out pair of wool gloves, fixing them before tucking his hands into the pockets of his jacket.

"It's not like you have anything important to do" Jin mumbled back, putting on her own gloves as well, although they were leather rather than wool.

"Yeah, well-" he cut himself off as he broke into laughter when he looked up at her, stopping his movements to catch his breath.

"What?" She stopped as well, frowning as she looked at him. She touched her face, thinking there was something on her face as she pulled her phone out to look at her reflection but there was nothing.

"Your nose is red," Andrés chuckled, pointing at her. She rolled her eyes at his comment, putting her phone back in her pocket and then crossing her arms over her chest.

"Well- you're just- shut up!" Jin huffed, looking away from him as they continued walking once again.

-

"Why’re you so mad all the time?" Jin asked, putting down a shaker as she walked towards the corner Andrés always sits in. Looking at him with a confused look. Was he still pissed from when she hit his eye with that bottle top? No way, right?

"I'm not!" Andrés replied, fiddling with the material of his gloves with one hand while the other kept on picking on the broken pieces of wood in the corner of his stool. He took one of them, poking the tip of his finger with it.

"You're all like-" she mumbled, imitating Andrés' face by scrunching up her nose and furrowing her eyebrows. Although she did not think she got his expression right, but she did not really care if he understood what she meant.

"That's my resting face, get used to it then" he muttered, leaning his back against the wall to his right. He tapped the bar with a low huff, blinking slowly as he stared along the bar, scrunching his nose at the sight of drunk people falling around.

"Well, you have a… such a unique resting face," Jin mumbled with a nod, smiling to herself before shaking her head and furrowing her eyebrows. He was a confusing guy, why did she even hang out with him all the time.

"Listen, Andrés, have a drink, lose your stress a bit, hm?" She suggested, her eyebrows raised as she pointed to the drinks behind her. It was pretty crowded, but surely, he would not deny a glass or two, right? What was the point of going to a bar anyway then?

"I'm not getting drunk, Jin" Andrés mumbled back, looking up at her now, hands dropping to his eyes as he let out a long and slow huff.

"Then why are you here?" Jin cooed, leaning back to reach a bottle and a glass, putting them in front of Andrés, doing one of those fancy flips before opening the top.

“Why not?" He shrugged, letting out a yawn as he watched her do her dramatic pouring and shaking of the drink around. He never understood why bartenders did all that. To impress people? To get more money for extra service? He did not know.

"You're boring, you know that, Andrés?" Jin muttered, sliding the drink to him and then moving to fix her shirt. She put the bottle away, leaning against the wall as she watched him glance at the drink.

"I don't wanna, I don’t even have money to pay" Andrés mumbled, resting his cheek against his palm, looking down at the drink and scrunching his nose at it. It smelled weird, he did not like that… but maybe, it did not taste so bad.

"Drink it, shut up, it's on me" She mumbled, tapping the wood of the bar with a light wink before walking away from his spot. Andrés only shrugged to himself, taking the glass and smelling it first before downing some of it. He winced at the taste, but did not say anything much after that.

-

"Isn't it too cold for that?" Andrés asked, moving around to get her order done. He did not really care about what she ordered, but just doing something with someone you know without having a conversation was both awkward and embarrassing, even if it was the smallest bit of talk, especially for his awkward nature.

"Well I like it. Extra ice please" She mumbled, tucking her hands in her pockets, snickering as she watched him groan and add the ice. He shook it around with the ice dramatically, almost as if he was mocking how she prepares drinks at the bar.

"How much?" Jin asked, not finding the drink on the menu as she looked through her wallet. All the drinks on the menu had complicated names that she could not care less about learning.

"It's on me" He mumbled back, covering the cup with a plastic cap, sliding it towards her along with a plastic straw. Jin only raised an eyebrow at that, reaching for her drink and putting the straw through the plastic cap, humming softly in delight as she took a sip.

"Hmm, not bad, thanks" She shrugged, putting a few coins into that 'tip jar' that was completely empty, except for a few dollars in it. Not that she felt pity or felt sorry for him not having any tip in the jar, but he gave her a free drink, it was the least she could do.

"Do you need anything else?" Andrés asked when he noticed that she did not leave, looking up at her once again. She was at the side of the counter, just so she did not block anyone who wanted to order after her.

"You free after work?" Jin asked, holding her drink in one hand while the other hand was tucked into the pocket of her coat, spinning on her heel slightly as she shook the ice in the plastic cup around.

-

"What's this supposed to be?" Jin mumbled, furrowing her eyebrows as she looked in front of her. She tucked her hands in her pockets, looking up at Jin for what seems to be the twentieth Time now.

"It's called 'Get in the car', dumbass" Andrés mumbled, still holding the car door open, feeling like he was about to murder her on the stop if she keeps this up.

"What if you kill me?" She mumbled, looking inside the car with some shit eating grin on her face. Jin snickered, watching him groan once again and puff out a deep breath he was holding for a while.

"That's what I'll do if you don't stop this-! Just- can we get this over with?" He replied, tapping his foot on the floor impatiently, his eyes wide as a fake smile played on his face. He looked pissed off to say the least.

"Okay okay, I was just playing" Jin mumbled, getting in the car with a snicker. She put her seat belt on, watching Andrés close the door harshly and make gestures with his hands before taking a deep breath and entering the driver's seat.

"You're annoying you know that" Andrés mumbled, turning on the engine with a huff. He put on his seat belt, turning around in his seat with his hand around at the back of the passenger seat as he backed away from the parking lot.

"You're welcome" she mumbled back, tapping her knees with her fingers. Jin watched him fumble around the car, driving down the street to god knows where.

"Do you even know how to drive?" Jin asked, watching his eye twitch as he looked in front of him, not even bothering to glance at her.

"I am a grown adult, thank you very much, I've been driving since I was seventeen, shut up" he huffed out, grumbling something under gis breath that Jin was just unable to hear.

"Where are we-"

"Shut up?" Andrés spat, cutting her off and glancing back at jin as he drove.

-

"You ruined my mood, I don't even wanna take you to that place anymore" Andrés huffed, parking the car and turning off the engine with a sigh, leaning back in his seat as he took in a deep breath and let it out.

"I said I was sorry" jin mumbled, taking off her seat belt and looking over at him with a slight snicker. She tried to hold in her laughter at how much he was being so pissed at her.

"I'm never asking you to go out again" he mumbled, taking off his seat belt and getting out of the car. He took in a deep breath, hoping to calm down as he shut his door behind him.

"This was a date?" Jin asked with a raised eyebrow, closing the door behind her as she left the car as well, hearing the click when Andrés locked it and stared back at her with half lidded eyes.

"No it's not!" Andrés grumbled, turning to look back in front of him before he walked along the street once again. His hands tucked in his pockets since he had left his gloves in the car and was too lazy to get them back.

"Where are you going?" She asked, catching up to him with a light jog. Jin could hear him huff, almost like he was annoyed by her, which only made her snicker. He probably was annoyed by her, she had bothered him a bit too much during the car ride.

"Jin, for the love of God, do you ever stop talking!" He mumbled, turning back to look at the road before he was pulled back by the arm. Andrés’ eyes went wide, watching a car drive by almost immediately.

"Sign's red" Jin muttered to his ear, pointing at the crosswalk sign that was red and the cars moving on the road. She still held him close, his arm tight in hers just so he did not lose his balance and fall.

“Uh- yeah, didn’t see” Andrés mumbled, rubbing his temple a little as he stared up at her. He stood back down to his heels again, moving his arm out of Jin’s hold. He huffed a little, rubbing his left eye as he looked down to his shoes awkwardly.

"Is that still from when the top hit your eye at the bar the other day?" Jin asked, tilting his head up with her hand to look into his eye, wanting to check if something had happened to him and it was her fault.

"No, my hair is just… getting long" He answered, moving his head away from her hands, finally crossing the street after the light of the crosswalk sign turned green.

"Oh! Can I tie it up?" She asked with wide eyes, eagerly wishing he would agree. Jin hopped on her feet a little, waiting for him to answer her. He would probably say no, but what was so wrong in having the slightest bit of hope?

"No way" Andrés grumbled, walking into a restaurant with one of his hands in his pockets, the other holding out the door open for the two of them to enter.

Jin walked over to him anyway, taking a hair tie from her pocket and pulling back Andrés' front hair with the tie, snickering when she let him go.

"Aww, so cute" She snickered, smiling brightly as she started patting the top of his head with a hum. Jin laughed, pinching his cheek as she watched him furrow his eyebrows and scrunch up his nose.

"Shut up, how do you take this out?" He grumbled, fumbling with the hair tie, getting it even more stuck in his hair, causing Jin’s laughs to only increase as she watched him struggle.

-

"Thanks for the date!" Jin giggled, watching Andrés' face furrow as he looked up at her. Almost as if he had some disgusted look on him. It was probably fine.

"Date?" Andrés asked, looking at Jin with an unbothered look, one eyebrow raised up. He was a bit too used to her bullshit, but it still caught him off guard every single time. Were they dating and he did not know? No way, right?

"Yeah, you took me out and we got dinner! It's a date" she snickered, leaning down so she was face to face with him and tapping his nose with the tip of his finger. There was a smile on her face, one which was definitely teasing.

"Keep lying to yourself" He mumbled, tapping her shoulder, starting to walk away from her. He let out a breath he was holding, rolling his neck a little bit.

"I'm tryna start shit, dude, let me live" Jin groaned,  following after him as she stared up at the sky above her.

"Live all you want but away from me" Andrés huffed, elbowing her in the side when she rested her arm over his head.

"Why're you mean to mee?" She whined, throwing her arms over his shoulders and leaning on him.

"Who wouldn't be? Why’re you so clingy?" He groaned, trying to get her arms off him. He failed to do so, feeling her cling around him even more after his comment.

"Listen, you're not gonna do anything so I will" jin mumbled in his ear, her head resting on top of his as they walked down the empty streets. She wrapped her arms around his shoulder a little tighter.

"Do anything for what?" Andrés asked, continuing to walk with his hands in his pockets, not even bothering to get Jin off him anymore. He could just pretend she was not there and live his damn life.

"In our relationship!" She spoke, playing with his hair that was falling over his eyes, braiding random strands of it and tying them together.

"We're in a relationship?" He asked, scrunching up his nose as he looked down at his shoes. When the fuck did that happen?

"No" jin snickered, tucking a random strand of hair behind his ear. Watching him groan and close his eyes for a few seconds before opening them again.

"You're annoying, you know that?" Andrés huffed, rubbing his temple with a slightly irritated sigh.

"Love you too!" She mumbled back, patting his hair with a scrunched nose.

"You really need a shower, you know?" Jin mumbled a while later, pushing her head away from his hair. Acting disgusted as she moved her hands in front of her face.

"Fuck off"
