Work Text:
Peter sits in Miguel's hand, observing the setup of the venue. It is a simple community building in Miguel's universe that, with the help of Jess, was able to come to life with pink tablecloths and blue streamers tossed around the ceiling.
"Do.. you like it?" Miguel asks. These past eight months have been the most stressful of his life, yet also the happiest. He can only wish for the best for his husband and child.
While Miguel is observing the setup, watching carefully for any flaws in it, he's caught off guard by the feeling of circular lego pieces falling onto his fingers. Upon looking, he realizes they're a translucent blue; tears.
He immediately rushes to get a tissue, very gently tapping it to Peter's face. He stayed silent, not very good at comforting, so he waits with an expectant look on his face while Peter collects himself.
"I'm just so nervous," Peter sniffles, bringing his c-shaped hand to his eye to remove one final tear. "I'm always so worried that there's someone judging, or complaining because we're never at HQ anymore.."
If it isn't already, Miguel's forehead creases upon seeing the source of Peter's sadness. "Please, do not cry, mi cielo. Remember that I'm the one in charge, so anyone judging will be kicked out. Don't worry about what others think, it's us that matter."
Peter stopped sniffling, and is seemingly calm when Miguel is done. He presses a kiss to Peter's plastic brown hair. His pinky presses against Peter's belly and when he feels the little one inside it warms his heart. "Are you ready to start?" A warm smile appears on his face.
Peter nods, and Miguel then calls to Jess for her to open the doors and let people in. He has Lyla control the music as well, and the baby shower commences. All of the Spider Society comes in, dressed casually, tons of presents in hand. It's even more heartwarming seeing everyone dress in the respective color of which they think the baby will be. Of course, everyone laughs upon seeing Hobie weat his regular attire. He goes on a rant about how forcing a child to conform to one gender instead letting them decide and it's a shame to see everyone dressed as such. When questioned on why he attended, the five missing miniature alcohol bottles speak for themselves.
By the time that everyone's in the venue, the gift table is overflowing with diapers, wipes and baby clothes. The thumping music has everyone dancing on the dance floor, holding lego and spider themed cake pops and treats as they mingle. In a brief conversation between Miguel and Peter they've felt very welcomed now that they see everyone's acceptance.
Just before they go to cut the gender reveal cake, the teens of the group took one of those gender reveal tiktoks where they guess the gender. Miguel was most certainly fuming when they put the camera on him and Petey, but the way they all seemed to be having fun helped him loosen up a bit. Throughout the evening everyone is able to laugh and joke together, providing a blanket of warmth around the society that brings everyone together in a way they never have.
--
Peter stands on the cake, watching expectantly as Miguel prepares to take a slice and see what the gender of their incoming child is. Everyone is gathered around their table, holding phone cameras to the couple expectantly.
"Do it already, Miguel, You're taking so long I think I might have the baby!" Peter jokes, waddling closer to the spot he was going to cut.
"Alright, alright.." Miguel takes a shaky breath in, timidly turning away as he cuts a piece of the cake out to reveal white cake with pink sprinked and edible glitter spilling out of the middle. Through everyone's cheers he turns the cake on its pedestal to face everyone, a bright smile and teary eyes present on both his and Peter's faces.
When Miles and the others come rushing towards the couple to congratulate them, Miguel's tears only become heavier on his waterline when he sees everyone's pure joy and support. Hobie drunkenly mentions the confusion on how a human and lego were able to reproduce, but ultimately is happy for the two. The other three giggle together about how they're going to treat the child, and take it on trips when Miguel's not looking. He wanted to scold them but their involvement was too heartwarming and exciting for him to care much.
Upon seeing the amount of people who turned up and their loving, unwavering support for the growing family, Miguel has felt such a strong sense of familial energy that it makes his stomach flutter. It'd been way too long since he felt this way. Through the support of Jess planning activities and setting up to the younger spiders offering assistance and their love and excitement, Miguel has only thought of one thing.
Maybe his family has been here all along.
