Let Me Take Care of You

Summary:

Suga injures himself, yet again, and Daichi forces him to let him take of him for once, which leads to a long overdue confession.

Work Text:

“It’s really okay, Daichi,” Suga chuckles as Daichi wraps his ankle in the stretchy tan bandage from the first aid kit in the club room.

“It’s not, you can barely walk, Suga. Don’t be dumb and try playing it off,” Daichi scolds softly, shaking his head as he cuts the bandage and tucks in, securely. “Not with me,” he adds.

His eyes are saying more than he can, wide and pouting up at Suga from where he sits on the chair above him. They’re secretly whispering his growing admiration for his teammate. More than just ‘don’t lie to me because I know you.’ Like he’s pleading for Suga to trust him entirely, pull away from his constant need to take care of everyone but himself and let Daichi be the one give him what he needs.

“Daichi, please d-don’t make a fuss,” Suga mumbles, bashfully, having to look away from Daichi’s big brown eyes. It’s nothing Daichi hasn’t done before. He’s bandaged more wounds on Suga’s body than he can count, but this time, Daichi handles him with just a little more care than usual.

Placing his wrapped foot gently on the floor, Daichi sighs. Slowly getting up from the floor as he snaps the first aid box shut, standing and placing it back in its cubby. Suga watches him with fond eyes, the sight in front of him a usual one. All of the times Daichi has taken care of him, flooding his memory.

“Don’t move,” Daichi instructs, collecting his and Suga’s bags and sweaters. Tossing them over his shoulder he walks up to Suga. “Let’s go.”

Suga’s eye widen as Daichi scoops him up in his arms, lifting him out of the chair.

“Daichi!” He yelps, wrapping his arms around Daichi’s neck in fear of falling. “I can walk!” He laughs in his ear.

“And I can dance ballet,” Daichi jokes, closing the club room door with his heel. “Can you grab the keys out of my bag and lock it?” Even with an injured Suga in his arms, Daichi still manages to fulfill his responsibilities as team captain.

Carefully walking down the stairs, he ignores the way his heart races in Suga’s embrace. His chest pressed against his own and his fingers squeezing the muscles in his shoulders. He would do this for any of his teammates, or so he tells himself.

“Please, Daichi,” Suga’s face is so close to his as he looks up at him. “You can’t carry me all the way home,” he shakes his head, a small smile of thanks on his lips.

“I’m taking you to my house,” Daichi nods, knowing that his house is closer.

“Fine, just don’t drop me,” he laughs.

Just to tease him, Daichi shifts Suga in his arms with a little bounce, making Suga gasp and clutch onto him tighter giggling into his neck. “You did that on purpose!”

“No I didn’t, you’re just heavy,” Daichi smirks.

Suga just shakes his head at him, smiling sweetly as he stares at Daichi’s profile while he walks him home. Forcing the flutter in his heart to keep calm.

After cutting through the alley that leads to the Sawamura household, Daichi sets Suga on the ledge of the short wall that lines his house.

“Wait here while I open the door,” he instructs Suga, pulling out his keys and heading through the gate.

“I’m home,” he calls into the house, but there is no answer. His parents must still be at work.

“I’m here, too!” Suga calls behind him, limping into the house against Daichi’s orders.

“Wha-Suga! I said to wait for me!”

“I can hobble the last couple of steps inside, Daichi, calm down,” he laughs, leaning back against the closed door.

“No, you can’t,” Daichi scolds. “You’re in pain now.”

Shaking his head he bends to lift Suga in his arms again, and carrying him to his own bed. Suga lets him hold him this time, holding on as he makes his way down the hall and into the door on the left. A room Suga is very familiar with after all of these years.

Pressing him down into his bed sheets, Daichi frowns down at him.

“Please, stay here,” he whispers. Pleading for Suga to do as he says so he doesn’t hurt himself any more.

Suga nods. His heart swells in his chest at the way Daichi is trying to take care of him, the way his soft face looks down on him. His scent from his bed swirling around him, Suga relaxes into Daichi’s bed, watching him walk away.

Laying there, looking up at the ceiling Suga thinks back on all of the times Daichi was there for him. When he got a bad grade on a test they studied for all night, when he was so tired from all of the extra practices and drills that he was falling asleep on the bus and Daichi put his jacket under his head as a pillow, letting him rest on his shoulder. To now, when Suga missed a step on the stairs and rolled his ankle.

All of these and more were what made Suga appreciate Daichi. The fact that they have been friends for years on top that, gave Suga the confidence to make up his mind.

“We only have frozen peas,” Daichi laughs as he enters the room, placing the cold pack of vegetables on Suga’s ankle to stop the swelling.

“Delicious and nutritious,” Suga jokes, wincing at the weight of the packet on his injury, sitting up to adjust the bag.

“Sorry,” Daichi whispers, sitting on the edge of the bed next to Suga’s hip. “I brought some pain meds and the blue power water you like,” he smiles at him, proudly holding up the bottle for him to see.

“Thanks,” Suga smiles back, taking the pills and drinking from the bottle Daichi opens for him. Their eyes lock as Suga purses his lips the opening.

Breathing steadily as he watches Suga’s adams apple bob while he swallows, Daichi has to force himself to look away.

“Feeling better?” Daichi clears his throat.

“Mmhmm,” Suga nods, trying to conceal the sound of his heart pounding in his chest as Daichi smiles at him, reaching his arm up and rubbing the back of his neck; Suga can’t help but stare at his flexed muscles.

“Good.”

“Yeah.”

They hold each others gaze for what feels like ages. Eyes dancing across each other’s faces. The heavy, but comfortable quietness of the room wrapping around them like a blanket on a warm spring evening.

“Daichi?” Suga finally breaks the silence. Even though his voice is a soft whisper of his name, Daichi feels it slice through the stillness.

“Yes, Suga,” he says, matching his volume.

Suga doesn’t answer right away. Biting his lower lip and glancing around at the walls of the room he’s come to know over the years.

“I was wondering,” he starts, slowly collecting his racing thoughts as his nerves twist and curl inside of his stomach.

“Hm?” Daichi hums, scooting closer, leaning in to hear his small voice.

Suga can feel his breath on his cheek now, sending a shiver down his spine.

“I was wondering if,” he swallows the words down, still too scared to ask.

“If?” Daichi’s voice shakes, his breaths jagged as he anticipates what Suga wants to say.

“If I could-,” Suga breathes. Finally getting the courage and leaning into the last few inches of space between them, gently pressing his lips to Daichi’s.

Daichi’s eyes widen as he gasps into Suga’s mouth. Feeling his soft, plush lips against his makes his heart feel like it’s about to explode, but he melts into Suga. His eyes slowly fluttering closed at the warmth of Suga’s breath on his cheek as he pulls away.

“Daichi?” Suga’s voice trembles, his slate grey eyes pleading for Daichi to say something, anything. But he doesn’t. He just stares at Suga for what feels like hours. “Please say something,” he whispers, begging his best friend.

“I have nothing to say,” Daichi sighs, looking down at his hands between their bodies.

Suga tries to hold back a sob. The feeling of embarrassment and heartbreak muddled into silent tears as he realizes the mistake he just made.

“I see,” he whispers. His voice so small in the loud silence of the room.

When suddenly, he feels Daichi’s hands cup his cheeks, pulling him in and pressing his lips to his in a greedy kiss. Leaning Suga back and pressing him into his bedsheets, Daichi pants above him.

“I have nothing to say,” he breathes. “Because I’ve been wanting to do that for years,” he smiles down at his best friend, the best friend he’s been in love with since year one.

“Daichi! We’re home!” His mother calls from the front of the house, startling the two of them apart. Daichi quickly stands to greet his mother. “Oh hello Koushi,” she smiles from his bedroom door. “Are you alright? You look flushed and - oh your foot!”

“I’m fine!” Suga smiles at her, trying to hide his blush.

“Just misstepped on the stairs, he’s alright now, I’ve got him,” Daichi reassures his mother as he leans in to kiss her cheek hello. “Let’s let him rest,” he says, guiding her out of the room and leaving like nothing ever happened.
