Work Text:
It was Twice’s day off in their otherwise busy week, and the girls decided to spend their whole day in a lowkey carnival that Momo and Nayeon was able to scope out in one of their one-on-one dates.
“YAH! Sana-unnie is backing out of our deal,” Dahyun pouted, crossing her arms for a more adorable effect while the older Japanese chuckled and pinched her cheeks.
“That’s because we just ate and I don’t want to puke my guts out, Dahyunie. But if we are to ride that ridiculous rollercoaster a bit later than now, then I’d really love to go.”
“Lies,” Tzuyu scoffed, rolling her eyes at the two. It’s safe to assume that the youngest member is getting increasingly jealous at the skinship of her unnies, especially one that she has a crush on. But Sana, ever the playful one, just batted her eyes and looked at Jihyo.
The leader just looked down and sighed, knowing that this was one of the things she signed up for when she accepted the role. Still, she grimaced at the other members (who cringed in fear) and decided to put an end to Dahyun’s pouting once and for all.
“Right. Who else doesn’t want to ride the rollercoaster right now?”
Sana raised her hand, along with Chaeyoung and the ever-graceful ballerina. Suggestive looks, specifically from Nayeon and Jeongyeon, were thrown around when they saw the other two. Both unnies snickered, whispering to each other, and all the other members could hear were snippets of their conversation - “making out”, “little date”, and “the nerve” being among the words that arose as they laughed.
“Mina-ssi, why won’t you be riding with us for this round?”
“Because I agree with Sana-unnie. It’s stupid to ride the rollercoaster after eating a heavy lunch. Even if you’re an experienced rider, the risk of contributing to the percentage of projectile vomits in amusement parks is still quite high and I would very much love to not contribute to the increase of that percentage,” Mina shrugged, looking off to the teacups ride in the distance, donning a look of disgust when she remembered what happened during their group amusement park date last year (Momo and Dahyun definitely did not have a fun time in that ride).
“Chae, how about you?”
“I saw some group over there with art materials. I’d much rather check that out first while I wait for my stomach to settle” the baby beast reasoned, smiling adorably at their leader to ensure that she’ll allow her not to ride the rollercoaster for a bit.
The group collectively groaned when they heard Chaeyoung’s answer - partly because they think it’s a bit lame to have that sort of activity in an amusement park, especially a small one, but mostly because they know that art is the nail to this coffin, since Jihyo has been encouraging the younger Korean to dabble even more in the creatives for the past few months now. She even went as far as buying her a full painting set and told her to set it up in her room for whenever inspiration strikes for their new album cover.
“Fine, you can all bail on this round. And the round after this. But when it’s our third turn at the rollercoaster, I expect the three of you to be lined up there already, okay?” Jihyo said. “And make sure you three are all together at all times. It might be best if the two of you go with Chaeyoung in her newfound art group.”
Sana really believed that it was a stupid idea to go on a rollercoaster after eating, which was one of the reasons why she backed out of riding for now. But of course, the sly Japanese has an ulterior motive as to why she wanted to stay on the ground with her two other friends.
For a long time now, Sana has been a hardcore Michaeng shipper and she has reached her limit today. She had to spend hours looking at the two sharing adoring looks and even gentle touches here and there while they went with the group in this amusement park date. Truth be told, the older Japanese even thought that if the others weren’t with them, they’d treat the outing as a small date, just between the two of them. She has wanted to puke for a total of 70 times throughout the day, and all were because the two just keep pushing and pulling at each other, afraid of making the actual first move. Sana knows that by the end of the day, neither would still confess and they’ll continue with their tiptoeing until the end of time.
Not on my watch.
Sana devised a plan so incredibly good and detailed, that if she told the other girls, they wouldn’t believe that she was the original thinker of the strategy. Granted, the other members also ship the two girls together, they weren’t as dedicated (obsessed) as the older Japanese was, so it was up to her to make her ship come true.
Chaeyoung may not know it, but Sana was the one who pushed her into noticing the small art group. She first saw them when they entered the amusement park, and ‘casually’ mentioned the art materials part to Momo when she knew that the baby beast was within their hearing range. She was able to confirm the young artist’s interest when she literally saw her ears perk up as she turned to check where the other artists stayed. From there, it was all a matter of convincing Chaeyoung to check out the group, feigning enthusiasm and surprise when the younger brought up the topic, convincing Mina to eat a lot at the food fair (she reasoned that this was food they won’t be having until they visit the park again), subtly talking to Mina about the effects of indigestion, and teasing another member that she won’t be riding the rollercoaster yet due to being full so that Jihyo will intervene and handle the rest as to who will ride with them and who will stay behind for a bit.
All in a day’s work, really.
“Sana-unnie, look they even let visitors draw other people!” Chaeyoung exclaimed. While she addressed the older Japanese, it was Mina’s hand that she grabbed and excitedly pulled towards the group.
Hook, line, and sinker, Sana thought, smiling at herself. She was not even able to catch up yet when the youngest of the three sat herself at a stool and ask for art materials from the facilitators.
Sana noticed Mina smiling at the baby beast fondly, fiddling with her hands and jumping on the balls of her feet as if she was hesitating to come near to the young artist and just pat her head. While the eldest member would rather just push their black swan to Chaeyoung and force the two to kiss and profess their love to one another, this was the part of her plan that was the most delicate. She can’t afford to mess this up.
“Changie ~ why don’t you draw me?” Sana said, sitting down at the adjacent stool. She made sure that her tone was just the right amount of sultry and flirty to make the other two flustered, but also friendly that they won’t think anything is going on between her and the youngest Korean.
She can also tell that Chaeyoung held back a groan before deciding to just obey her unnie. Mina, on the other hand, just assumed the role of supportive best friend and watched the two as the baby beast drew her quickly.
Around 15 minutes later, Chaeyoung finally finished her portrait of Sana and flipped the canvas to let the other girl decide if she’s satisfied with the drawing.
Coming closer to take a really good look at the portrait, Sana’s first thought was that it was absolutely good, as expected of the young artist. But as she looked at it longer, the older Japanese could also see that her portrait didn’t exude the same love and magic as compared to when the baby beast draws Mina. Normally, people who realize this turn to being offended and hurt as their main emotion, but for Sana, all she could think about upon the epiphany was, This is good, she draws Mina better because she loves her.
“I’ll pay for your drawings of Mina-chan,” Sana said, inspecting the small beast’s portrait of her.
“Why not pay me for your own portrait?”
“Please, you don’t draw me even half as good as you draw Mina.”
The two younger members blushed simultaneously, even until they were walking back to the line for the rollercoaster. Sana wanted to just smush them together and so they could finally kiss, confess their love, and ride off to the gay sunset forever but when the older Japanese saw them linking their hands during the walk, she knew that the time will come really soon.
Skipping her favorite ride for this very moment is so worth it. (Also because Momo and Dahyun did, in fact, contribute to the projectile vomit at amusement parks percentage, but that’s a story for another time.)
