“Can I ask you something?” Vee asks as they sit side-by-side on the couch, the credits of Howl’s Moving Castle playing on the TV. Hunter went with Mami to the store, leaving Vee and Luz home alone. So, this is the perfect time to get her sister’s advice.
“Sure,” Luz says. “What’s on your mind?”
Vee’s insides squirm at the mere thought of telling Luz this, and if she were in her human form, she knows her cheeks would glow bright red. “Uh… well, the thing is… I’ve got a crush on someone!”
For a few seconds, Luz stares at her. And then a huge grin spreads across her face. “Oh my gosh, who is it? Do I know them? Wait…” Luz gasps. “Is it Masha?”
“Luz…” Vee moans, embarrassment churning within her. “How did you know that?”
“Well, no offense, hermana, but you’re not subtle. You blush whenever they talk to you.”
“No, I don’t!” She folds her arms, trying to pout, but Luz doesn’t believe her.
Leaning close enough to nudge Vee with her elbow, Luz says, “I’m just surprised it took me this long to notice.” Vee’s embarrassment must show on her face because Luz’s grin fades to a gentle smile and the teasing ceases. Instead, Luz says, “Anyway, so… Masha, huh? You really like them?”
Vee clasps her hands together, avoiding eye contact. Just thinking about Masha puts a smile on her face. “I… I do, yeah. I wasn’t sure at first, because I’ve never had a crush before, but… this is a crush. I wanna ask them on a date, but, um… how do you do that?”
Beside her, Luz seems to vibrate with excitement. Of course, her shipper of a sister would be excited about this.
“Don’t worry, Vee,” she says. “I’ll teach you.”
