Too far

Summary:

In an attempt to get Trina to go diary, Corey's plan fails terribly and is meet with guilt when Trina hurt in a way never seen before.

Notes:

I always wondered what would happen in the show if Corey went to far trying to get a reaction out his sister.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Are you sure this will work Core?" Laney was unsure about this elaborate plan Corey had this time around.

"Totally, Trina gets a date with Nick Mallory, Trina's dream comes true and she'll love diary us up some lyrics." Corey reassured. This was nothing they haven't done before.

Laney was still suspicious. "But how are we going to get Nick to actually stay on the date with Trina? Trina is kinda…horrible."

"Don't worry about it guy. We'll just keep Trina in a good mood and make sure the date goes smoothly. Besides,
Nick loves water and bread sticks, keep that coming and he'll be good. "

Trina walks in excited, she has a date with her one to be Nick Mallory! She checks herself in her makeup mirror. Reapplying some blush. She was surprised to find out that Nick was the one to ask her out this time. Usually she was the one that had to get Nick on a date. (Little does she know it was Corey who was the one who sent the message 'Nick' sent)

Mina was there to make sure everything went smoothly and was instructed by Trina to destroy anyone that dared ruin this date. Trina smiled seeing Nick sitting at a table for two, handsome as ever. Trina took a deep breath.

She walked over and sat down smiling. "Hey Nick."

"Trina Riffin, expected to see you here." Nick said having an idea she was the one behind all this. Receiving an anonymous message about bread sticks. (Also sent by Corey)

"Hmmm, probably because you totally sent me this super duper romantic text right?" She showed him the text. Nick looked at the text expression blank. "Nick..doesn't remember sending Trina a text." Trina tilted her head but just laughed it off. "Oh Nick, yea sure you didn't send the text." She winks at him.

Nick looks to the side. "Whatever makes Trina happy."

Laney and Corey watched from behind some plants in the restaurant. "This..is going to be a disaster." Laney shook her head.

"We just gotta up the romantic atmosphere a bit. Kin, Kon, que cupid."

Kin was dressed as a waiter wearing a mustache while Kon was dressed as cupid, literally.

"Is that a real diaper?" Kin asked, slightly concerned.

"You don't want to know." Kon pulled out an arrow. They get into place. Kin walking to their table. "Bonjour, may I suggest the couples special? Steak in the shape of a heart on one plate to share between the two." He spoke in a terrible obviously fake french accent.

Trina gasps totally in love with the idea of sharing her food with Nick. Nick took a sip of his water, unfazed. "Nah, Nick's good." Kin looked over to Corey not knowing what to do. "Uhh…" Corey signaled to him to continue. "Well lucky for you it's on the house! It's a special for couples like yourself!"

Trina smiled. "Did you hear that Nick? We look like a couple."

Nick looked uninterested. Trina was getting self conscious. She laughs it off under the table she's angrily texting Mina on her phone.

'Why isn't Nick like totally swooning over me!?💢'

'Uh..maybe he's playing it cool? To not seem clingy?'

Trina looks up from her phone. Nick is like the coolest guy in the world so this is totally fine that he seems totally disinterested right?

Lenny was rubbing her temples. "This date is going horribly Core. Nick is being totally cold towards Trina."

Corey thought for a moment then thought of a solution. "Well, if we can't make this date go well to make Trina happy. We can make it terrible to make her angry. Corey turned to Kon pointing to Trina making a happy face to upset. Kon understood and headed towards him holding a bouquet of roses.

"Roses! Roses here, take a rose and give it to your true love. Which are free by the way." He told the last bit specifically towards Nick. "Good sir, won't you show your love to your lovely date? Each rose shows how much you love your special someone."

Trina got super excited looking over at Nick. "Oh my God I'm like totes wondering how much you really love me Nick. I bet it's the same amount how much I love you?"

Nick gave her a look, a look different from anything he's made before. He sighs. "Nick thinks maybe we should just eat these bread sticks."

Trina began to get annoyed. "Ugh, fine but don't you want to at least get me ONE rose? Which is free by the way! This is a date after all."

"Nick doesn't know how to really explain this but this isn't a date."

Trina growls. "Then why did you send me this text?" Trina shows him her phone. Nick looked closely. "Nick didn't send that message."

Trina blinks. "Then...who would send this to me? And why?"

Nick shrugged. "Probably just some cruel prank."

Prank?

Corey and the others were watching the scene. "Trina is going to go diary for sure."

Trina looked at Nick. "Well, even if it wasn't you who sent the text. You totally wanted to go on a date with me right? I mean you're here."

"Nick just got a mysterious message himself, didn't say it was a date for Nick though. Just a place that needed his coolness and has delicious bread sticks."

"Oh..well..um..it doesn't matter how we got here. What matters is that we're both enjoying this date and that you feel for me what I feel for you right?"

Nick made another face. "Look, Trina Riffin, Nick thinks you're cool. But Nick isn't interested in a relationship, and if he was it wouldn't be with you."

Trina's mouth fell open. She gulps. "Because you value our friendship?"

"No, Nick just doesn't like you."

You could hear a cold hard crack inside Trina. Everyone around them cringed at the scene but didn't look out of respect.

"Oh…" was all she said.

Nick got up from his seat, done with his water. "Nick hopes Trina isn't too hurt by the rejection."

Trina just shook her head. Nick nods leaving the restaurant a flock of girls already by his side. Trina sat there looking at the table. Mina slowly walked over to Trina on guard. She thought she could blow at any moment. "Trina…are you ok?"

Trina had no expression. "I..Mina..he doesn't love me.."

Minas body froze, Trina has never spoken so softly before. "That's..that's not true Trina! Or well…maybe it's true but, forget about Nick. If he can't see what he's missing then he's a loser."

Trina doesn't respond. She just gets up. "No. I think the only loser is me." Her voice cracked. Mina looked at her worried. "Trina?"

Trina walks out of the restaurant, Mina was quick to follow. The band looked in slight horror. "That was absolutely mortifying." Kin commented.

"Aw man we took things too far guys, what we did was way too cruel. Even for truna." Laney felt guilty. "And after all that we don't have lyrics! What are we going to do?"

The bandmates talk amongst themselves. Corey hasn't moved from his spot. He's never seen Trina so hurt before, and he was the reason for it. Sure he likes to make her crazy, most of the time she deserves it but this one was different. He's her brother, and brothers aren't supposed to make their sisters cry. Not like that.

"We have so little time, i-i don't know what to do Core. What do you think?" They looked up to see Corey gone.

Corey wasn't thinking, his body just moved on his own, his eyes scanning around for his sister. He did see a familiar face, it was Mina.

"Mina, where's Trina?"

Mina shook her head. "I don't think it's a good time to bother her, Corey."

"Please just tell me, I need to see her." Corey pleaded.

Mina sighs. "She's heading back to your house." Corey gave a silent thanks, running to catch up with Trina. He has to see her, he just had to see her, he's never felt this guilty in like..ever! Corey's eyes light up as he sees Trina, running faster.

"Trina!" He catches up with her. "Trina?"

Trina sniffles, turning to him. Her expression was heartbreaking. That scowl that was always on her face was nowhere to be seen. Instead her expression was like a devastated puppy. Rejected by everything she only cared for. The guilt is hitting him terribly now.

"Trina, I'm so so sorry I didn't mean for it.."

"So it was you? You sent that text?"

Corey didn't say anything. Trina just laughs. "Wow, you got me good huh? Not only did you humiliate me and you!" She raised her fist angrily, she was going to hit him good this time. But the blow never lands, instead she drops her arms. "You..just showed me I was the one humiliating myself. This whole time. Sniff. Damn…guess you won huh?"

Corey shook his head. "Trina..we were never in competition..I just treated you how you treated me."

Trina looked down. "Well, heh.. I guess you won't have to worry about me ruining your stupid little gigs or tormenting you and your band."

"Hey, forget Nick! You're a uh..girl. You'll find someone who cares about you."

Trina shook her head. "No…I don't think so. I just realized that it was ridiculous to think Nick would ever care about me." She looks at him. "I don't even care about myself."

Corey's expression grew more painful at her words.

"I thought if I got a guy like Nick to see value in me then maybe I could believe I had any value to offer. But the reality is that there's nothing. I'm nothing." More tears fell at the self realization.

"That's not true! You're popular, you have Mina!"

"People fear me, and my only friend isn't a friend, she's an assistant at best. And even if she sees me as a friend, she sees me as nothing but a mean girl that yells at her all day and pushes her around." The thoughts Trina tried to fight so hard were coming to her again. "Oh my God. I'm alone, I'm going to be alone, and I'm going to die alone. I have no one."

"You have me." Corey looked at her.

Trina rolls her eyes. "Oh yea, my Rockstar little brother who's more popular than me, has more friends than me, who's probably going to make it as an annoying musician who is successful and will totally wont forget about me and leave."

"Trina, you're my sister. You're all I have left to call my family, we share the same blood and it'll be just us one day. I..uh…you know...I have positive feelings towards you. And i uh..i.." He looked around uncomfortable. He couldn't get himself to say those specific words. Not that he doesn't feel that for Trina, just that it's been buried deep deep down for ages. Never saying it out loud.

"Don't lie to me Corey, you don't have to."

"I'm not lying! You know you'd believe I care about you if you didn't keep messing with me and my band. I only react to what you do to me. But I promise you that I never want to hurt you on purpose, unprovoked." He added the last part quickly. "Especially like tonight, Trina I promise I'll never do that again."

Trina rubs her eyes. "Well, I guess you're still happy to get revenge on me after all I did to you."

"Well yeah..You'd get really ruthless now and then." Corey bit his lip. "I just wish you didn't hate me so much. I know we used to get along, what happened?"

Trina looked at him, she thought about it and she couldn't find a justifiable answer. She just knows that as she got older the people around her got meaner. Her once sweet attitude was getting eaten alive in middle school. She had to toughen up if she was going to survive. One shit experience after another and this is just what she became.

Corey shifted a bit. "To be honest with you, I miss how things used to be. I wish I had my sister back." He hesitated. "I wish we could be family again."

Trina's expression softened. She looked down at him. "Oh my god…Corey, I." Something in her chest hurt. "I have a lot to do for us to be on good terms again."

Corey looked up at her.

"I'd love to work on our relationship if you let me."

Corey thought about it for a moment then smiled. "Hey, I don't hold a grudge."

Trina smiles a little. "Alright then."

"I'm really sorry again Trina. I promise for now on I'll never hurt you again." Corey was still filled with guilt. Trina sighs, patting his head. "How about from this moment forward. We'll just start fresh, yeah?"

Notes:

I always wanted to see a moment in the show that the two cared about each other mutually. Just once. Even if it was denied by both of them.
