Work Text:

The door to their shared apartment hasn't entirely shut yet when Zachary's eyes well up with tears, all the day's emotions hitting him like a ton of bricks or a punch to the chest. Silent sobs rake through his chest. Dorian is still at work, he is all alone. The emptiness of his heart is overwhelming. Zachary wishes it could end. The pain, emptiness, everything. He cannot explain to others exactly how he feels. He has a loving partner, a supportive mother, and a good friend group, so why is he always so sad?

Dorian arrives home many hours later. The small apartment is dark and silent. Zachary's shoes are strewn across the floor, jacket tossed onto the back of the sofa. As soon as Dorian places his bag down, almost like a sixth sense, Dorian knows Zachary has had a bad day. He walks down the hallway, pushing the wooden bedroom door open, and his heart breaks. Zachary is curled up on Dorian's side of the bed, eyes swollen and nose red from tears.

“Darling, do you want to talk about it?” Dorian whispers, laying down next to Zachary, pulling his head onto his chest.

“It's just too much” Zachary mutters, voice breaking.

“I know honey, I know. I love you so much. Don't let the darkness fool you. All lights turned off can be turned back on ”

Multiple minutes go by as Zachary sobs into Dorian's chest. Dorian has never been the best at comforting Zachary, or anyone for that matter, but he loves Zachary more than anything, so he rubs Zachary's back in circular motions and whispers praises before breaking the silence once more.

“Do you want me to call your Mom?” Dorian whispers between kisses to Zachary's temple.

“Please.”
