Work Text:

Hitoshi has been struggling to even sleep since he came off of his last mission where he had to infiltrate a band to capture a villain called Siren. She calls herself that because when she sings, she lures violence out of the people who hear her. For some reason, Hitoshi was immune to the song, and that’s how he ended up on a six-month mission, singing for a band of wannabe vigilantes. They all seemed into the vigilante thing, and America was weird, so he didn’t bother turning them in when he finally successfully got Siren locked away.

That was a month ago, and Hitoshi has only managed to sleep two hours a night since. He was also put back on patrols a week after his return, despite him telling them he needed more time with the agency’s therapist. But both he and Mrs. J were ignored, and Hitoshi has been running himself ragged because of it.

To put it simply… Hitoshi is exhausted.

Hence why after being sent home and told to take three days off because he’s been sloppy with his last few arrests, Hitoshi completely forgot that it was brunch day with Izuku until his dad called to tell him that Izuku showed up at his agency expecting Hitoshi to have gone there as well because they use Shota’s office for their brunch to get some privacy.

Hitoshi had told his dad to send him here, even unlocked his door after he took a shower and dropped himself onto his old couch to await his best friend and the man he loves. He’d been dozing when the door opened, making him jump as his heart races until Izuku steps into the room, and Hitoshi feels himself calm down almost instantly. His heart is still racing, but the anxiety he’d felt is gone.

“You look like you haven’t slept in days, and you were forced to take time off. ‘zawa told me all about it, said you’ve been bailing on your family dinners lately when I went to the office because that’s where we normally have brunch.” rambles Izuku worriedly as he settles on the couch next to Hitoshi, looking at him with wide green eyes filled with care. “He told me you were sent home and told to take three days, yet you still said yes to brunch. Hitoshi, why would you force yourself to have brunch with me if you’re so exhausted?”

“You’re the love of my life and my best friend, I would do anything for you.” says Hitoshi genuinely through a yawn as his eyes flutter closed and back open.

“I want you to eat three meals a day and have a decent sleep schedule, Toshi.” retorts Izuku immediately with a soft smile that Hitoshi catches every time he forces his eyes back open.

“Absolutely not.” replies Hitoshi as he shakes his head forcefully to fight the sleep back, pouting as he looks at Izuku again. “You know I hardly sleep because I’m an insomniac, and I’m too busy to really eat three meals a day. There’s no way I could do that.”

“Toshi, you know you could do that. You did it when we were still in school. It’s only been a few years, and you have everyone worried. Come on, at least try to rest while you have the time off, please… for me?” pleads Izuku softly, understanding in his voice as Hitoshi feels himself nodding off again.

The food is immediately forgotten as Hitoshi sighs deeply, defeated by those wide green eyes that he catches momentarily, but he doesn’t move. He twists on the couch so he can curl up on his side and lay his head comfortably against the back of the couch, and his body melts into the cushions. He just lets Lady Sleep take him where he’s sitting on his own tattered couch in his messy apartment on his brunch with Izuku day. By the time his mind sinks into unconsciousness he’s too gone to react to the sensation of a hand cupping his cheek.

The next time Hitoshi opens his eyes, he’s lying on a bed in the dark, and there’s a warm body pressing against his back, arms wrapped around his middle. Hitoshi tries to blink the sleep out of his eyes, and it works for a moment because his own words come back to scream at him.

“You’re the love of my life…”

Hitoshi had told Izuku that he’s the love of his life. Hitoshi confessed to Izuku when he was half-awake. A quick glace over his shoulder gives him the small chance of catching green curls in the little bit of light coming from a lit-up phone laying on the pillow behind Izuku. His mind is running because he just confessed to Izuku, confessed something he’s been hiding since the beginning of their third year, and yet Izuku is here, pressed against his back as he holds Hitoshi like nothing happened.

Hitoshi knows he should slip out of Izuku’s hold, knows he should move to the extra room where Eri usually sleeps when she comes over, but he also knows Izuku. And he prides himself on knowing Izuku almost as well as Katsuki does because they spend a lot of time together talking about anything and everything. Izuku was the only one aside from his family that he talked to during his mission in America. Hitoshi knows that Izuku isn’t going to let him run from whatever conversation they’re going to need to have after this, and that’s why Izuku stayed here. Because he’s going to force Hitoshi to talk to him so that they’re not hiding anything from each other.

Hitoshi curls in on himself lightly, bringing his bent knees closer to his chest, and he sighs when he feels Izuku’s legs bend and rise up to fit himself around Hitoshi in this new position. He closes his eyes and tries to fall asleep again, and for once, he’s able to sleep as he’s surrounded by the warmth of Izuku.

The next time his eyes flutter open, it’s to see Izuku’s fingers tracing circles into his shirt covered chest.

“Zu, what’re you doing?” asks Hitoshi in a deep, sleep-laced voice as he lets his eyes fall closed and yawns.

“Tracing shapes into your shirt, you up for talking Toshi?” replies Izuku softly, nerves shining in his voice as his fingers keep going.

“What’d you wanna talk about?” asks Hitoshi softly, knowing exactly what’s coming because he knew when he woke up the first time.

“You said you love me, and you said I’m your best friend. Do you love me as a best friend, or as more? Either way, you’re not going to lose me, I promise.” says Izuku determinedly as he lifts himself up onto his forearm to look at Hitoshi.

“I love you as more. I’m in love with you, Izu, have been since school.” replies Hitoshi honestly as he looks at Izuku, forcing himself to do this because he knows they need to talk about it.

“Can I kiss you, Toshi?” asks Izuku as his green eyes go watery, voice coming out pleadingly.

“Yeah, Zu, you can kiss me.” replies Hitoshi as confusion laces his voice, but the want drives him harder than the confusion.

“I’m in love with you too, and I have been since school too. And I really want to kiss you because I never thought this would happen, and my emotions are so-” rambles Izuku until he’s cut off by Hitoshi lifting his head enough to brush their lips together.

Hitoshi lays his head back on the pillow, eyes still closed at the silence as he waits for Izuku to run away, waits for the other shoe to drop.

Instead of a retreat, Hitoshi feels legs straddle his waist, and his eyes open as soon as hands hold his face.

“I’m going to kiss you this time, and I’m not going to be quick about it.” says Izuku seriously as Hitoshi looks at him with wide eyes.

Hitoshi is frozen until those lips meets his again, and then his eyes are falling shut as his hands rise up to hold him by his hips. This kiss is slow, sensual in the way their lips rub together and teeth nibble at full bottom lips. Hitoshi feels his arousal ramp up as Izuku’s tongue dips into his mouth, drawing his own out and into Izuku’s mouth upon his retreat. They pull away at the same time, Izuku’s head tilting forward to press their heads together as they breathe softly.

“Toshi, will you please be my boyfriend?” asks Izuku quietly as his eyes flutter open to find adoration filled purple orbs staring back at him.

“Yes, Zu, yes I’ll be your boyfriend.” replies Hitoshi quietly, soft, and so filled with happiness and love that his eyes water.

“I love you, Hitoshi Shinsou.” whispers Izuku fondly as he rubs their noses together.

“I love you too, Izuku Midoriya.” replies Hitoshi just as quietly as he brings Izuku down, his hands sliding around to his back. “I’m still tired, so can we sleep some more?”

“Of course, Toshi, I have the day off too. Let’s sleep some more.” says Izuku with a quiet giggle as he lays down on top of Hitoshi for a moment before moving to lay beside him. “I’ll crush you if I lay on you, Toshi.”

“You’ll be my weighted blanket, Zu, stay where you are.” whines Hitoshi as he pouts at Izuku, trying his hardest to not let Izuku move.

“Fine, but only until you fall asleep.” replies Izuku with a fond shake of his head as he settles himself on Hitoshi again, nuzzling into his neck as Hitoshi holds him, hands running up and down his back.

“Night, boyfriend.” whispers Hitoshi with a giddy feeling in his gut.

“Night, boyfriend.” preens Izuku happily.

They fall asleep together just like that, and Hitoshi sleeps better than he ever has now that he has Izuku with him.
