Bluey: A Marriage Story

Summary:

After years of dating and trauma-healing together, Bluey and Mackenzie finally get married.

Includes a lot of flashbacks. Same timeline as my other fanfic, Bluey: Borderline Addicted.

Notes:

Hey! Needed a break from writing the depressing story that is Borderline Addicted so I decided to make this. This obviously spoils the fact that Bluey and Mackenzie’s relationship in Borderline Addicted ends in marriage (even if they do have some major bumps along the way). Enjoy :D (also the title is inspired by A Marriage Story with Adam Driver, despite being nothing like that movie)

If you want to talk to a few other fanfic creators, along with me, we got a discord for that. If you wanna invite a friend, here's the link:

Chapter 1: Reminiscence

Chapter Text

“Are you ready?” A teary eyed Chilli said to her daughter as she finished the final touches of perfecting Bluey’s fur.

“Yes Mum, I want this more than anything. You know that!” Bluey said with a grin. Although being extremely excited to spend the rest of her life with this boy, she was nervous. What if something went wrong? What if someone crashed the wedding? She tried her best to shove those thoughts away but they ate at her conscious like parasites.

“I’m not sure if I am.” Chilli said with a nervous smile. “My girl has gotten so big and mature. I still remember bringing you home from the hospital. It was one of the best days of my life!”

“Mum, it’ll be okay. I promise. It’s not like I’m dying! I’ll still visit you all the time!” Bluey said, turning around in the chair and placing a paw on her mothers, which was resting on the back of the chair.

“You grew up too fast, hunny…” Chilli said with a sniffle. Bluey wasn’t the only one who had aged. Chilli, now in her late 50s, had grown many gray hairs, and her face had gained wrinkles. Despite this, she had made herself as beautiful as she was for her own wedding for her daughters special day. Bluey had just turned 22 a few months prior, and was proposed to by her long-time boyfriend who she had been dating for more than 6 years. Despite the two agreeing a government-regulated contract wasn’t needed to prove their love, they both deep down had been looking forward to this day since Bluey had confessed her love for Mackenzie in the Brisbane hospital. Since then, they graduated high school and moved in with each other, with Mackenzie pursuing a career in soccer and Bluey a career in journalism after attending college.

“Do I look good enough to get married?” Bluey said, turning back around in the chair to face the mirror.

“You look beautiful, Bluey.” Chilli said with a sigh and a smile. With that, Bluey got up and gave her mother a tight hug. She could feel a tear drip down onto her shoulder.

“I love you Mum, thank you for everything.” Bluey said with a sniffle

“I love you too Bluey.”

“We still have some time if you’d like to talk and reminisce a bit.”

The two walked to a nearby couch in the bridal suite and sat down on it, both being careful not to mess up their fur and hair. Bluey leaned against Chilli, who put an arm around her daughter.

“You picked the perfect venues.” Chilli said. Mackenzie and Bluey had chosen to have the ceremony at the creek that sparked their love for each other, and the reception  at a nearby hotel, which happened to be where Chilli and Bandit had their 25th year anniversary party. Bluey had been assigned a hotel suite to prepare for the ceremony, while Mackenzie was getting ready at the Heeler house with Bandit. They had chosen not to see each other for an entire day before the wedding, which was at 5:00 pm.

“Thanks, Mackenzie chose the hotel, and we both thought of the creek.”

“Yeah, I can see why you wanted to get married there. You two spent hundreds of hours at that creek together.”

“Well, we grew up going down to that creek with Dad, and it’s a pretty romantic area.”

Chilli checked her phone. 3:53. They had 22 minutes left before they had to leave. They would be driven over to the creek by a chauffeur, where Bluey would be blindfolded and separated from her mother. Then, the ceremony would begin and Bluey’s grandparents would make their way down the aisle. Followed by Bob and Chris Heeler was the Maid of Honor and sister of Bluey, Bingo. Followed by Bingo was the groomsman, which was Rusty. After Rusty, Jack would make his way down the aisle, acting as the ring-bearer. Next came Socks and Muffin, who were the flower girls, despite being 17 and 19 respectively. After the flower girls, Loren would guide a blindfolded Mackenzie down the aisle and up to the wedding alter before she would retreat to the front row of seats. After she sits down, Bandit and Chilli will make their way down the aisle with Bluey, guiding her to the opposite side of the alter before sitting next to Loren at the front row.

“This feels so surreal. I can’t believe I’m actually doing this!” Bluey said, stressed and nervous.

“It’s worth it, trust me Bluey. When the blindfolds are taken off and you see Mackenzie standing across from you in his tuxedo, you’ll melt.”

“I know but- what if something goes wrong?”

“Nothing will go wrong, and if it does, so what? It won’t change anything. Your family will still love you, you friends will still love you, and Mackenzie will definitely still love you hunny. There’s nothing to worry about.”

Bluey sighed and wiped a tear from her face. “Thank you Mum. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done. For helping plan, and raising me, and- and everything.”

“Of course, Bluey. You’re my daughter. I wouldn’t trade you for the world.” Chilli sniffled. “You used to be so small and cute, and now you’re- you’re this beautiful young woman any girl dreams of being. You’re marrying a perfect man with a promising future, and you’re both pursuing your dream jobs.”

“I really am lucky, aren’t I?” Bluey said, smiling with a face of nostalgia. “I remember when you told me about when I learned to walk, and how I would roll around instead.”

Chilli laughed while also crying. “Oh yes, I remember. You would roll around, and- and you would scootch backwards on your butt. So many nights we would try and get you to walk. I remember when you finally did.”

“Yeah, I remember you told me, it was-“

“In the kitchen.” the two said at the same time.

“And Bingo said something that stuck with me, something like, ‘Maybe you just saw something you wanted!’” Bluey said.

Chilli let out a little whimper and reached for a box of tissues before blowing into one. “You both have grown so much. You’ve got Mackenzie, and Bingo is going to college with Dougie.” She stammered through sobs.

“We’ll always be with you Mum. Always.” Bluey said in an attempt to comfort her mother.

“Thank you Bluey. You and your sister are the best daughters I could ask for.”

“Did you get confirmation Rad and Frisky are gonna make it?”

“Yeah, their plane landed about an hour ago. They checked into the hotel and were on their way to the creek as of 15 minutes ago, so they shouldn’t be late.” Chilli responded, checking her texts.

“Great. I was hoping they would be on time. Their wedding was the only other one I’ve gone too.”

“Yeah, you were born just after your Uncle Stripe and Aunt Trixie’s. I remember I was still pregnant with you when they had their wedding. That was ages ago.”

“Well, a bit over 22 years I guess.”

“Yeah, I think I was reaching 6 and a half months into the pregnancy. You were kicking at that point.”

Bluey and Chilli smiled, their minds fuzzy with nostalgia.

“We should start heading out, it’s 4:15. It says it’ll take 13 minutes to drive there, and then we have to touch up your hair a bit once we get there.”

Notes:

There you go. Still sad but more of a happy-sad than the straight up depression that I’m used to writing. More chapters for this and Borderline Addicted coming soon.
