It wasn't as if Ethan was a replacement for anyone. It just so happens that Ethan reminded Blue of him sometimes. Blue started dating Ethan because he likes Ethan.
Sometimes Blue just liked it better when Ethan stayed quiet for a bit. Or when the sun was bright and Ethan would turn his cap to the front. That serious expression he had during battles was good too.
Those were things he liked about Ethan.
Ethan doesn't need to know Blue would prefer it if he never took that red jacket off.
He liked Ethan for Ethan and that was all.
