The waves were the first thing Aether could process. Foam lapped at his clothes, and the wind carried the sent of salt in the air. Memories flooded his thoughts, and the sand fell off Aether’s body as he sat up, his searching amber eyes roaming the empty beach for someone.
“Lumine?” He whispered, fear shining in his golden eyes, sweat dripping off of his brow.
“Lumine!?” He cried louder, frantically trying to stand and get the sand off of him. Birds were crying in the distance, almost as if mocking his efforts, knowing that they were in vain. Tears were streaming down his face, for he was alone. Standing in the sand, with half of his body wet and plastered with sand, he realized was truly alone. Staring at the ocean, the sun starting to rise out of the heavens. Aether wished Lumine could at least be able to see how beautiful this sun looked. The last one wasn’t this multicolored, Aether mind supplied him.
“She would have loved it.” He whispered softly.
. . .
Aether’s tears feel their end as the sun finally returned, a globe of light now in its place.
“Remarkable. Only one planet to light the darkness and the light,” Aether mutters to himself. His clothes were now dry, yet somehow they were still full of sand. The last planet had three globes to light the darkness, and this world had only one?Aether wondered.
“Maybe after we’re reunited, we can add more. Lumine, you would love that, wouldn’t you?” He wonders, eyes happily closing.
“After all, I’ll find you soon. No matter what.” Aether giggled, like a child who was about to be reunited with his favorite toy.
“No matter what god thinks they can separate us, I’ll always find you, just like last time.” He whispered gently, a promise to be fulfilled. He walks toward the grass, his golden braid swishing softly in the wind behind him. No mortal or god would keep Aether from fulfilling this oath, he knew. After all, Lumine was always the one who showed more empathy toward others. Aether would destroy this world if she escaped. But if he was honest with himself, she was too kind to kill the so-called innocent.
He wasn’t so hesitant to keep his threat.
